Episode SummaryIn this episode, Michele Uriarte-Beards shares her journey as the mother of actor and voiceover artist Miguel Gabriel. When Miguel showed early signs of speech and movement challenges, Michele navigated the uncertainties of finding the right support. Facing resistance—even from within her own family—she remained determined to help her son thrive. In addition to exploring various therapies, she found unexpected help in the theatre community, which not only provided Miguel with a creative outlet but also set him on a path to a professional acting career. Michele also reflects on Miguel's experience with bullying—how those who once bullied him ultimately became his bodyguards. It's a powerful parallel to his journey from struggling with speech to becoming a successful voiceover actor. Kristina gives an overview of typical communication development and talks through important milestones parents should watch for in order to make sure that theri child's communication is developing as it should. Speech Delay, Ketika si Kecil Tak Kunjung Berceloteh Oleh. Rina Nursanti (Kontributor NarasiPost.Com) Voice over talent: Giriyani SS NarasiPost. Hadar Swersky says that kids with ADHD are at risk for articulation disorders, which affect their ability to produce letter sounds suitable for their age. Beyond that, they also usually have differences in fluency and vocal quality when talking. Moreover, children with ADHD showed enhanced volume and variability in pitch when talking, along with specific patterns such as increased number of vocal pauses.

COVID isolation kept us inside our house, but did it make our world quieter? If you're seeing a speech delay in your toddler, they may have been affected by the lack of exposure due to the lockdown. Rachel Smith, Program Director of Turn Autism Around and mom to Two-year-old Everett, is sharing how she blames covid for her son's speech delays and how she turned it around. We also give tips on picking the right daycare, reversing activity aversions, and how you can be the best therapist for your child!
For many of us, maybe even you, speech delay was one of the first things that we were concerned about in our child's development. For our children with autism not only are they delayed in their speech, but they are often delayed in other areas of development including initializing communication using eye contact, or gestures like pointing or shaking their head. They also may lack eye contact, not respond to their name, and may use the words that they do have out of context that makes no sense. CDC's Developmental Milestone- https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/actearly/milestones/index.html A child who isn't developing critical speech or language skills needs help and the sooner the intervention starts, the better. Children with autism can learn to speak. So, even if your child isn't talking by age 4 or 5, they can go on to develop speech, they will just need some extra help getting there. www.notyouraverageautismmom.com

Peggy Earnest is a pediatric speech/language pathologist. She received her PhD from the University of Connecticut and has over 18 years of experience working in her own private practice called ‘Columbia Motor Speech Therapy'. Peggy especially enjoys working with children with complex speech disorders, such as apraxia and dysarthria. Over the years, she has been inspired by many aspects of her job, but especially by the determination, strength and creativity of the kids she is fortunate enough to work with. Peggy is also the author of an eclectic mix of books, ranging from professional books and poetry to books that raise awareness of food allergies. Her most recent venture is a novel, entitled ‘Nonverbal'. Peggy took all of the inspiring characteristics that she observes in the many children she has worked with over the years in order to create a fun and inspirational character named Jake Prescott, who changes attitudes using his own unique form of communication. Nonverbal is written for young adult readers and touches on current topics including cyber bullying, kindness, inclusion and the value of true friendship. Above all, the book is about the life-altering lessons Jake is able to teach to those in his world, even without words. It is the winner of the 2020 preteen and teen Human Relations Indie award, the 2020 winner of the special needs Human Relations Indie Award and a 2020 Finalist in the Inspirational Fiction category of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. This episode I would like to talk about a very important topic which we mothers definitely feel for child when they don’t respond the way they should. None other than I am talking about Speech Delay in Child. Every mother has this question in their mind, why my child taking more time to talk and he is not speaking the way other kids in their surrounding are expressing their thoughts. At time we feel bad when our child wanted to say something but couldn’t express because of this communication issue. So before proceeding further, let me share my story how I have started communicating with my daughter? When my daughter was hardly 03 months old, me and my husband started talking to her in fun way, we tried to talk simple word with her and sometime we used to sing rhymes, which really gives her happiness and she started responding our conversation. And within 06 months she spoke the first word Papa, which was a wonderful moment when we heard her communicating. Then onwards we more often started communicating with her, even in the morning when she used to get up we used to communicate and while travelling to other places we used to tell her stories showing the pictures, moments what’s happening around everything.Especially my husband after coming back from office, and while playing with her toys he used to communicate with her. Even when we used to visit mall with her we used to do the same thing. That’s how she started developing her language. The environment is most important for a child to communicate. The kind of environment they see, listen irrespective of language, culture and religion etc. they tend to adopt and replicate the same. It’s actually joyfull moment for every parent and slowly we make sure to increase our conversation with her that actually help my daughter to start speaking simple words.I would like to request all my listeners to please share your thought/views/feedback about today’s episode and if you have any topic on which you want me to cover on my Podcast please write to me at somathakur@gmail.comWould love to receive your comments.Regards,Soma Thakur--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/supermotherunleashed/message
