Suchi Reddy's creative journey began in Chennai, India, where she grew up in a vibrant home curated by her mother—think scenic wallpaper, terrazzo floors embedded with marble fragments, and a rich mix of textures. Surrounded by gardens and books, Reddy developed an early sensitivity to how environments shape our sense of self. That awareness grew into a passion for architecture, which she pursued both in India and the U.S.In 2002, she founded her New York–based multidisciplinary studio, Reddymade. From Humanscale's sustainably minded Chicago showroom to immersive installations for the Smithsonian, her work reflects her guiding principle: form follows feeling. Rooted in the science of neuroaesthetics—the intersection of neuroscience and design—Reddy's approach centers on creating spaces that resonate emotionally. Whether through retail, residential, or institutional projects, her mission remains the same: to make people feel seen, included, and inspired. This episode is brought to you by American Leather. Home Seeking by Karissa Chen. This is one of those big, epic sweeping stories which starts in one place and finishes up a long way away. Suchi and Haiwen are good friends and then teenage lovers in Shanghai during the Civil War. When Haiwen volunteers to go and do National Service (a gesture he makes so that his brother won't have to) they lose track of each other. Life and the years then intervene so that it's sixty years before they recognise each other in Los Angeles and slowly start to re-establish their connection. There's a lot to this book – about identity, families, finding a place in the world and what one might have to sacrifice in order to do that. Presumed Guilty by Scott Turow. In 1987 Scott Turow wrote Presumed Innocent, which knocked my socks off at the time – it was so, so good. Some years later he wrote a second book, Innocent, but here's the one I've been waiting for which captures the essence of that first one all these (38!!) years later. Rusty Sabin is now older. Over the course of his career he's been a prosecuting attorney, a judge, and even a defendant and convicted felon. Now he's essentially retired, living in a small town and settled in a great relationship when suddenly all that is threatened when the son of his partner is accused of murder and Rusty steps up to help out. Great family and courtroom drama – the first in this series predated John Grisham by 4 years. Scott Turow really was a trailblazer and he's still going strong. Sudarshan and Shweta are key leadership figures in Bal Raksha Bharat (also known as Save the Children India). Sudarshan is CEO and Shweta is Head of Governance & Organisation Development.     In this podcast, they generously share their thoughts and experiences. Their approach is inspiring and enlightening, and it aligns closely to the Eco-Leadership Institute approach. They focus on shifting power from the centre to the edges. Their humanitarian work aims to create capacity, but not only through raising funds from external resources. They see the recipients of the aid they provide as key to creating capacity, as the children and citizens they support are full of potential that they aim to resource. They also look for long term solutions and focus on moving away from crisis reactions,  and reliance on external funding, to build sustainable capacity through civic and state collaboration. They discuss some of their pioneering approaches to humanitarian aid and development and what is striking is the emphasis on deep caring and a holistic approach. Sudarshan and Shweta have to constantly adapt to the fast changing landscape. Key to their work is what we call LEDGE approaches - leadership from the edge, and they focus on bringing people from the edge to make their contribution heard and relevant. Whilst they face many challenges, they see their ecosystems are filled with resources. At the heart of their work is hope, fuelled by a collaborative and generous mindset.    Sudarshan is a strong advocate of developing a learning culture in the workplace. He shares insights from Bal Raksha Bharat's most recent annual ‘Knowledge & Learning Exchange Week' which focussed on ‘failing intelligently'; to remove any blame culture and learn from both the successful and unsuccessful initiatives. India is a place of diversity and challenges for them, but from this podcast you can feel the power of their hope and the energy they have to create a good society. Bios: Sudarshan Suchi is the Chief Executive Officer of Bal Raksha Bharat (also known as Save the Children India). As a staunch believer in participatory processes, Sudarshan believes in co-creation and inclusion of all voices within design and action. Passionate about building self-reliance and creating livelihood opportunities, he has himself dabbled in creating and promoting eco-friendly farming practices. Although he graduated in Philosophy, Law and completed Masters in Participation Power and Social Change, Sudarshan admits that most of his education happened outside the classroom. Over the past three decades, he has held leadership positions with eminent organisations like Reliance Foundation, Reliance Life Sciences, and National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). He has also taught at Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA) and is part of Academic Council of IIHMR's Rural Management Program. As CEO of BRB, Sudarshan believes in creating a living organisation that is built on its people and their ability to be vulnerable, embrace shortfalls productively and aim towards improvement. His vision is to build and grow the movement for child rights in India, wherein children have a voice and agency, and participate as active citizens of the country. Shweta Malhotra is a seasoned professional with 17 years of dedicated service at Bal Raksha, Bharat (Save the Children India), currently serving as the Head of Governance & Organisation Development. In this role, she adeptly oversees the Board, CEO's office, and plays a pivotal role in enhancing the organization's adaptability in an ever-changing dynamic environment. A true advocate for fostering a human-centric culture, Shweta thrives on meaningful connections with people. Her professional narrative includes a fascinating chapter as a freelance fashion designer, where she successfully ran her own label. Beyond her professional pursuits, she finds joy in travelling with her family and relishes the simple pleasures of snuggling up with a good book and a cup of coffee.

The first Knowledge to Action episode with urban planner Suchi Lukes in July of 2022 had so much good information to share that we think the episode is worth a revisit. Host Jen Whitelaw speaks with Suchi, who also spearheads C-3's Urban Core Knowledge Action Network. Suchi talks about her commitment to bringing together local thought leaders from planning, design, community development, and more to address San Diego's distinctive and pressing land use challenges.   Timestamps: [2:19] We often identify housing as the major challenge for the urban core, but Temporary Paradise called for the revitalization of commercial corridors as a way to anchor redevelopment. Suchi talks about the nexus between bringing back our historic main streets and building up stock in the urban core. [5:00] Suchi discusses Euclidean zoning, where you have your residential center in one area, and how this creates more flexibility in our developmental regulations. [6:02] One key challenge in the urban core is the availability of land. [8:42] What part should our urban core play as we try to develop climate resistance? [11:01] Our urban areas are pretty key in helping address climate change and shaping livability. [11:59] How do we reconcile established character and preservation in some cases, with new development? [18:07] Suchi discusses the Community Land Trust Model. [19:55] There is still much inequity in our park spaces that we need to address. [22:44] We have to have a holistic vision of how lower-income and minority folks can have a full quality of life and it can't just be done through planners. It has to be multiple sectors coming together, including community members, to make sure everyone has a voice and is able to advocate for their own needs. Suchi Reddy is a poet of space. Long before I met Suchi, I fell in love with her work when I experienced the Connective Project in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, an installation of 7,000 glorious, yellow, flower-like pinwheels that filled me with happy. Years later when I met Suchi through our mutual friend, Stacy Fass, Suchi dropped the phrase form follows feeling into the conversation and right then and there I asked Suchi to be on the podcast. I needed to explore this idea and share it with you. Form follows feeling - a design ethos informed by neuroaesthetics (the study of how the brain responds to the design of our surroundings) - is the guiding design principle for Suchi and her firm, Reddymade Architecture and Design. This strong belief that good design, calibrated carefully to the human, positively influences wellbeing, creativity, and productivity informs all of Suchi's projects from conception to details. She believes in the power of joy and whimsy and making the invisible, visible. Suchi really made me think about my home space and my work space, and how important it is to ask myself how I want to feel in those places; that they are living and breathing, in order to support me every day. Suchi's curiosity and sense of possibility are inspiring as is her diverse range of work from the aforementioned Connective Project to Me + You, Suchi's interactive installation blending emotional AI, sculpture, physics, neuroscience and data technology at the Smithsonian, to the Google store in Manhattan to beautiful, serene residential spaces which I love to follow on her instagram. Suchi was appointed the Plym Distinguished Professor at the University of Illinois School of Architecture, Champaign–Urbana for the Fall 2019 semester, where her work focused on contemporary architectural experience through the lens of neuroaesthetics, neurophenomenology, and sensory design. She sits on the board of the Design Trust for Public Space, Storefront for Art and Architecture, and Madame Architect; and she is a member of the Dean's Board of Advisors at Detroit Mercy School of Architecture.   Learn more about Reddymade Architecture and Design at www.rmdny.com and follow on instagram at @reddymadedesign.

AI itself isn't purchased, rather there is a product that performs better because of AI. Advancements in AI need to effectively solve specific problems for adoption to occur. (17:33)Challenges to AI Usage. Dr. Safavi points out thata challenge to AI usage is the privacy and consent necessary to utilize patient data. This is a policy and regulation issue that requires government intervention. Additionally, for AI to be reliable, bias in data needs to be mitigated, focusing on quality over quantity.
