Gone are spreadsheets and lessons from our elders on how best to budget. It sometimes takes a village and a community, as users share tips and stories so that everyone wins. Listen as Jason Henrichs connects with Carmen Perez, CEO and Founder, Much, about her journey and inspiration in creating a budgeting app to help others win with money management. Much is changing the way people think about money and helping users take control of their financial journey. Then we spotlight sister podcast NextGen Banker. The digital banking world is no doubt convenient. Delicia Hand wants to make sure it's fair, too. David Reiling, host of NextGen Banker, speaks with Hand, the director of financial fairness at Consumer Reports, who helped put together a framework that evaluates how well digital financial products are working for consumers. In this roundtable discussion, The Gathering for Justice CEO Carmen Perez, youth activist and Executive Director of Youth Over Guns Luis Hernandez, and Founder of The California Coalition of Barrios Unidos Nane Alejandrez speak about intergenerational advocacy. In varying capacities, Nane was mentored by activist, singer, and actor Harry Belafonte, mentored Carmen himself, and then watched as Perez has mentored the next generation in Hernandez and more. This discussion chronicles the importance of mentorship and courage in the face of adversity, and is a touching tribute to the years-long movements for justice these brave activists have engaged in. Women's March Is Falling Apart, Major Sponsor Pulls Out. The Southern Poverty Law Center has removed itself as a sponsor of the Women's March following the controversy over leaders Linda Sarsour, Carmen Perez, and Tamika Mallory. The SPLC cites other projects as the reason but one can only assume it is due to their ties to Louis Farrakhan.Following this we are hearing that the Women's March is infighting among its local chapters with NYC set to have TWO competing marches and Chicago having been announced to be canceled.Yet in spite of all the negative press and evidence of abhorrent behavior and anti social justice rhetoric the feminist organization Women's March still has a huge list of sponsors including the ACLU and Planned Parenthood.Support the show (http://timcast.com/donate)
You've heard the controversy about antisemitism and BDS in connection with the Women's March and its co-chairs Linda Sarsour, Tamika Mallory, and Carmen Perez. In this episode, we talk with Bob Bland, Women's March Co-Chair, fashion designer, wife, mother, and old friend of Meir-Simchah. We put the hard questions on the table; we find out about what Bob believes in and cares about; we ask her about the role of faith in social activism and social justice; and we talk about the inner work and interpersonal work needed to move forward together. If this doesn't challenge some of your assumptions and give you some food for thought, you might not have a pulse. Share & subscribe & let's do this together. (Outro music, "A Gentle Touch" by Marty Newman.)
In this episode: The Women’s March faces new accusations of anti-Semitism among its leadership, New Jersey Democrats prepare to institutionally gerrymander the state so obviously that national Democrats are embarrassed by them, and major election fraud allegations hit the Chicago city alderman’s district where the legislator some call Illinois’ “State Dictator” lives. Last week, thousands of Israeli women held a nationwide day of protest against the inaction of the Israeli government and of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the face of rising violence against women. Since the start of this year, 24 girls and women have been murdered in Israel. Over half of these murders were committed by a male relative of the victim or a current or ex-partner. On this week's episode of Haaretz Weekly, host Simon Spungin is joined by Haaretz's Allison Kaplan Sommer and two of the organizers of last week's women's protest – Dror Sadot and Anat Nir – to discuss the struggle by women not only for government protection against violence, but also for a greater voice in running what is still a highly militaristic and male-dominated society. We also discuss the Women's March in the United States and ask whether, given that many people view the organization as tainted by some of its leaders' ties to virulent anti-Semites, Jewish women have a place alongside people like Tamika Mallory, Linda Sarsour and Carmen Perez.

By the time Mallory turned 15, she was a staff member at NAN. Mallory went on to become the youngest Executive Director at NAN. After working at NAN for 14 years, Mallory stepped down from her position as executive director in 2013 to follow her own activism goals. Mallory explains that she still takes part in NAN's work, by attending rallies and recruiting members. Mallory, alongside Bob Bland, Carmen Perez, and Linda Sarsour, organized the Women's March, a worldwide protest on January 21, 2017. The march was a protest against the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump, and also advocated women's rights, immigration reform, LGBTQIA rights, health-care reform, environmental reform, racial justice, and racial equality. The leaders of the Women's March mobilized in Washington, D. C., and sister marches occurred worldwide. An estimated 500,000 people attended the Washington, D. C., march. The Women's March website said that total worldwide participation was nearly five million. According to British newspaper The Independent the march may have been the largest single-day protest in U.S. history. Following her time at NAN, Mallory continued as an activist working on topics such as gun control, women's rights, and police violence. Following the murder of her son's father, she has worked to create stronger gun restriction laws.[citation needed] Mallory worked closely with the Obama administration on gun control legislation,[citation needed] advising Joe Biden and working to pass new legislation.[citation needed] In 2014, Mallory was selected to serve on the transition committee of the New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. During that time, she helped create the NYC Crisis Management System, an official gun violence prevention program which awards $20 million annually to gun violence prevention organizations.[6] She also served as the co-chair for a new initiative through the Crisis Management System, Gun Violence Awareness Month. Mallory is the president of her own firm, Mallory Consulting, a strategic planning and event management firm in New York City. She is currently on the board of directors for Gathering for Justice, an organization aimed at ending child incarceration and working to eliminate policies that produce mass incarceration Denver’s 2018 Women’s March Thousands of people of all ages, races and genders poured into Civic Center park Saturday morning for Denver’s 2018 Women’s March, propelled by a year of social and political tumult that many of them hope to calm at the ballot box.
