Grace Jones recorded her fifth album (and her second New Wave inspired departure from her 70s disco recordings) in Bahamas with a stellar set of musicians known as the Compass Point Allstars. The musicians included Jamaican chart toppers, Sly & Robbie, keyboardist and silent member of Level 42, Wally Badarou, among others all under the direction of Island Records founder, Chris Blackwell and in house label producer, Alex Sadkin. The 9 song collection, 3 of which Grace co-wrote, became the biggest selling album in the Grace Jones catalog and features her most successful US single, “Pull Up To The Bumper”. Fashion, Art and Music became one and left a heavy impression for many future pop and rock superstars to take note of. Read more about your favourite albums here: classicalbumsundays.com

M lanzó tres álbumes: New York • London • Paris • Munich en 1979, The Official Secrets Act en 1980 y Famous Last Words en 1981. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/radioflowok/message
On Part 2 of INSIDE BARRY REYNOLDS, the legendary songwriter and rhythm guitarist talks about becoming a member of the Compass Point Allstars with Sly & Robbie, Wally Badarou, Mikey Chung and Sticky Thompson, featuring amazing adventures at the Nassau studio with Joe Cocker, Robert Palmer, Chris Frantz & Tina Weymouth, Jean-Paul Goude, Black Uhuru, Chris Blackwell, Harry Nilsson, Ringo Starr and more! And of course, plenty of inside stories about his long and fruitful writing and recording collaborations with Grace Jones, from where the Compass point era all began… Throughout INSIDE BARRY REYNOLDS, an in-depth series of conversations with music journalist/DJ musicologist GREG CAZ, Barry reveals his fascinating story from Lancashire to London, Nassau to NYC. A great raconteur and fine gentleman, Barry talks about growing up fast as a talented guitar playing young teenager in and around the blues scene in London and the early Beatles era in Hamburg, to creating the groundbreaking "Broken English" album with Marianne Faithful, and being an integral part of the unique hybrid sound on some of Island Records greatest albums recorded at Chris Blackwell's legendary Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas from 1979 through the mid-80s. The "Compass Point Allstars," backed an incredible variety of top artists at the time, including Joe Cocker, Black Uhuru, Robert Palmer, and so many more rock and reggae greats. Barry continues to be a musical collaborator with many of the finest international artists working today, an in-demand producer, prolific songwriter, and of course, a rhythm guitar master.
Classic soul music that's been remixed, re-edited, reshaped and re-loved by today's most gifted DJs and producers from around the world"Quality Edits for Beautiful People"Episode seven features songs by: Pink Floyd, Eddie Harris, D-Train, Bill Withers, The Temptations, Parliament, Linda Clifford, Idris Muhammad, Teddy Pendergrass, Inner City, Loose Ends, ESG, Family Of Eve, Patrice Rushen, Steve Parks and Wally Badarou.
Music. Fashion. Art. Icon. Attempting to mix these to create an internationally acclaimed persona would be a daunting task for anyone with less magnetism than Grace Jones, who succeeded so overwhelmingly at becoming a cross-genre “It Girl" that she forged a path for future generations of singular artists to follow. Already a well-known model and disco queen, Grace Jones began recording music in the late 1970s. The records did modestly well, but in 1979, Island Records founder and producer Chris Blackwell began working with her on a new musical aesthetic, combining funk, disco, reggae, and new wave styles to create something new— and uniquely Grace Jones. With the talents of Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, Wally Badarou, Mikey Chung, Uziah Thompson, and other musicians who comprised the Compass Point All-Stars, the sessions that became Nightclubbing would go on to influence music through each subsequent decade. As we seek to bridge the gap between the generations, there are few better examples of lasting musical, sartorial, and artistic inspiration than Grace Jones. In today’s episode on her 1981 album Nightclubbing, we explore the effervescent enigma of a woman who left her Jamaican home to travel the world, only to return to the Caribbean to create the music that would become the focal point of her legacy. We dive deep into the relationships between music and art, between the artist and the image, and between icon and legacy.
More bass driven synth fun from Thomas Dolby, Wally Badarou and Grace Jones.
Ending the show with some slower synth songs from Wally Badarou and Art Of Noise.
Classic Album Sundays' Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy and Horse Meat Disco’s Luke Howard and the legendary Blitz kid Princess Julia discuss Grace Jones' fourth album 'Warm Leatherette'. The album was a new wave inspired departure from her Seventies disco recordings and recorded with a stellar set of musicians known as the Compass Point Allstars. The musicians included Jamaican chart toppers, Sly & Robbie, keyboardist and silent member of Level 42, Wally Badarou, guitarists Mikey ‘Mao’ Chung, Barry ‘White’ Reynolds and percussionist Uziah ‘Sticky’ Thompson all under the direction of Island Records founder, Chris Blackwell and in house label producer, Alex Sadkin.
