Those dependable staples of childhood: toys that reflected the culture of the times; playthings which carried us away to fantastic adventures in faraway lands of the imagination - along the way making memories to last us a lifetime. Was it that wonderful present that Santa miraculously made appear beneath the tree on Christmas morning? Perhaps it was that wide-eyed moment of surprise, when we ripped away the wrapping paper of an unexpected birthday gift? Possibly it was a longed-for treasure, one for which we had scrimped and saved every penny to obtain. Whichever the case, the toys of our childhood earned a special place in our hearts; they are a part of our past, and a very precious chosen few of them have stayed with us, steadfastly remaining to secure a special position of honor on our collector shelves. Over the past 10 years, I've attended hundreds of births. Some of my clients choose to have unmedicated births and some choose pain medication. Whichever you choose, do your research and decide which birthing experience is best for you. We want everyone to know that one way of giving birth is not better than the other and one way does not make you a better or stronger woman or mother. All birthing options are good options for different circumstances and it's up to you to do your research so that you can determine which is best for you and your baby. So why would someone want to have a “natural” or unmedicated childbirth? Mary Alice and I are discussing the reasons why some women choose to forego pain medication during labor and delivery. We're also sharing the different kinds of pain medications that are available should you decide on having a natural birth but change your mind during labor.

Whichever way you view the results of this election, there is no question we are a divided country. Jesus, however, calls us to unity in his church. How can we be passionate about politics, true to our values, and still love those who disagree with us? On this episode, Rachel Chester sits down with Yancey Arrington to discuss how we move forward as followers of Jesus.

Action items for today. It’s time to clean up the house. Whichever the vice may be that you want to get ride of, when you are not feeling tempted go and clear your house of anything that would tempt you to go back to the bad habit. Then think of what you really want from that vice and swap something from this. For example, if you love going to the pub to hang out with friends, you may actually be going for connection and calorie heavy beer comes with it. You’d get even more powerful connection if you volunteer at a nonprofit. Decide whether you’re going to slowly go into the water, or jump right in. If it’s a bad habit you’ve had for decades, you may decide you’re ready to just stop cold turkey. Or, maybe you’re more like Darren who decided to cut back on caffeine by slowly mixing in decaf, and then switching to decaf tea over the course of a month.Decide what you are going to celebrate. Shoremates, this is an extremely powerful action. For paying off debt, this is why the snowball method is so impactful. By feeling the sense of accomplishment and allowing your brain to get pleasure, it provides momentum in wanting more and more results. Shoremates, I hope that this episode was valuable to you. Each book we choose has to have the potential to change your life in a positive way, and I highly recommend adding this book to your bookshelf. Always, always rememberYou’ve got this!-J.D. Elliott
Remember, Faith and Fear cannot co-exist. Dr. Jeff Lip reminds us all the time about that. We get the choice as to which one to feed in our lives. The one we continually feed will take charge in our lives. Whichever one we focus on will be the one that we have to deal with the most. The key is that there are plenty of items from the world that will feed into whichever one we decide. This is what Difference Makers do more than others. You can be one of those Differnce Makers. Talk 10. Questions about Marriage (7:1-40) One of Paul’s purposes in writing 1 Corinthians was to answer certain questions about which they had written to him. The first of these was on the subject of marriage and Paul devotes the whole of Chapter 7 in giving his answer. It’s too lengthy for verse by verse exposition and I shall not be reading it all in this podcast. So I suggest that before listening any further you hit the pause button and take time to read through it and then have it open as you continue to listen. The chapter presents certain difficulties because in some verses (e.g. v.1) Paul appears to be teaching that Christians should not marry. However, the slogan It is good for a man not to marry possibly came from a group of ascetics in the Corinthian church rather than from Paul himself. Today I shall be highlighting ten major lessons that are to be found in the chapter. Marriage is a gift from God (7) 7 I wish that all men were as I am. But each man has his own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that. So it would be quite wrong to suggest that Christians should not marry. Marriage is a divine institution given: for companionship as a channel for our sexual desires that children might be brought up in the ways of the Lord. The Christian view of marriage is the answer to many of the social problems of our generation. The married have privileges and duties that the unmarried do not have (3-5) 3 The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4 The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. 5 Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. Each partner in the marriage has sexual privileges from and duties to the other. It is the will of the God that husbands and wives fulfil their sexual responsibilities to each other except for times of prayer and fasting by common consent (5). The unmarried can devote themselves more fully to the Lord’s work (32-34) 32 I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's affairs - how he can please the Lord. 33 But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world - how he can please his wife - 34 and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord's affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world - how she can please her husband. In pastoral life there are considerable advantages in being single. There are also serious disadvantages. To remain single requires a definite gift (charisma) from God (7) 7 I wish that all men were as I am. But each man has his own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that. No Christian is ever left ‘on the shelf’. God is able to find us a partner, if he will, or to give us the charisma to go through life unmarried. Those who do not have this gift ought to marry (9) 9 But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion. They should marry is a command. With passion (NIV) is not in the Greek. Nevertheless, this is clearly the sense here. In time of difficulty for the church it may be better not to marry (26) 26 Because of the present crisis, I think that it is good for you to remain as you are. What Paul means by the present crisis is unclear. Barrett and Fee both take it to refer to the eschatological woes that are to precede the second coming. More generally we could take it to refer to times of persecution. But even in these circumstances it is not sinful to marry (25-28, 35-40). As we have already seen, it is better to marry than to burn with passion (9) Cf. v.36 if he feels he ought to marry (NIV) If his passions are strong (EV) However, in times of persecution there are greater problems and heartaches for married people, especially for those with children A Christian should never marry an unbeliever (39). 39 A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord. She marries anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord. This is the only restriction placed on marriage other than the OT prohibitions placed on marrying close relations. The Christian may choose their partner provided they’re also a Christian. (‘Marriage’ to someone of the same sex would of course have been unthinkable.) If your partner is not a Christian, let them go if they want to! (12-16) 12 To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. 13 And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. 14 For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. 15 But if the unbeliever leaves, let him do so. A believing man or woman is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace. 16 How do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or, how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife? Since Christians may not marry non-Christians, this must refer to the situation where one partner becomes a Christian after marriage. The suggestion is that the Christian life is so incompatible with that of the non-Christian that the marriage may well break up. There is no guarantee that the partner will get converted. There is no Scriptural basis for ‘claiming’ one’s loved ones for the Lord. This practice rests on a false interpretation of verse 14 and a misunderstanding of Acts 16:31. The word sanctified (14) simply means that the marriage is sanctified in the sight of God and the children are not illegitimate. Some of the benefits of salvation extend beyond the saved person. Christians act as salt in any community, even their own family, but this does not bring eternal life to the members of that community. Whichever way it is interpreted, v 16 makes it clear that the conversion of the family is not certain. Christian couples may separate, but not remarry (10-11) 10 To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. 11 But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife. It is possible that Matthew 19:9 modifies this slightly, but opinions vary as to the correct interpretation of marital unfaithfulness. However, the general principle is undoubtedly that marriage is for life. Paul’s teaching does not contradict that of Jesus. He is answering specific questions in this passage, not giving an entire analysis of the Christian view of marriage. As a general principle, don’t change course unless clearly led to do so (17-24) 17 Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. 18 Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised. 19 Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God's commands is what counts. 20 Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him. 21 Were you a slave when you were called? Don't let it trouble you--although if you can gain your freedom, do so. 22 For he who was a slave when he was called by the Lord is the Lord's freedman; similarly, he who was a free man when he was called is Christ's slave. 23 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. 24 Brothers, each man, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation God called him to. These verses do not just apply to marriage. The general principle is repeated in 20 and 24. Your outward circumstances are relatively unimportant compared with what you are in Christ (22).
Today is another AMA episode (Ask Me Anything). Kara asks, I’ve been approached by a borrower to lend funds to purchase a property. I’m not interested in taking risks, so I figure if I limit the loan amount to 80% of the property value, and secure the loan in first lien position I’m going to be safe. I don’t have the time or systems to fully qualify the borrower. The property is a fixer upper which will require the borrower to bring additional funds to repair the property. He intends to hold the property as a long term rental and eventually refinance with bank financing in order to repay the initial loan. Apart from mortgage security, what else should I be concerned with? This is a great question. My recommendation is that you work with a licensed mortgage professional. That’s their business. For the listeners to this show, I don’t want you taking what you hear on today’s episode and making loan decisions directly. I’m not a mortgage professional and I don’t profess to be. I’m merely giving you ideas for you to discuss with your mortgage professional that might give you additional protection. A lender is only ever asking one question. If I lend you money, how will I get it back. The more sophisticated the lender, the more ways they have of asking that same question. How will I get my money back if things go well? How will I get my money back if things don’t go well? Whether you write one loan or 100, you’re in the lending business. In order for you to have a robust and safe lending business, you need systems and processes. That means being very clear on your lending criteria. I’m going to touch on a few, but there are many more to be considered. These are for example purposes only. Again, consult your real estate lawyer and your mortgage professional. Let’s talk about the things that can go wrong and how you need to protect yourself in the lending criteria and in the loan agreements. You can learn an awful lot about this business by reading commercial loan documents to see what terms a lender has embedded in the loan documents. Every single one of those terms are there for a reason. They’re there to protect the lender. You’re correct in saying that by securing your loan on title with a mortgage does provide some protection. But it’s not absolute protection. Only by understanding the weaknesses that a mortgage can have, can you plug those holes that exist. Let’s start with the loan amount. You mentioned that you were willing to loan up to 80% loan to value. In my mind, the notion of value can be highly subjective. There have been documented cases of appraisals coming in above the true market value. In that case, the unsuspecting lender can be taking on much more risk without even knowing it. My recommendation is that you write your loan terms at a lower percentage. But not only that, you may consider limiting the loan amount to the lower of, say 70% loan to purchase price, or 70% loan to value. Whichever of those two numbers is lower, that would be the maximum loan amount. You mentioned that the property is a fixer upper. Every time you have someone working on the property, there is risk of a mechanics lien being recorded on title. Your mortgage might be in first position, but a mechanics lien would come ahead of a mortgage in the hierarchy of payment. You need systems and process to control the payment of contractors and subcontractors. Even with asset based lending there is a certain amount of due diligence that needs to be performed on the borrower. The lending business has a lot of moving parts. These are just a few of about a dozen things that can go wrong even in the world of secured loans. Again, I’m not a lawyer, nor a mortgage professional. If you’re going to write a loan then you probably want to get into the lending business with all of the systems, processes and protections that come from being in the lending business.
Whichever way you look at it, understanding and addressing human security is a challenging problem. It isn’t just complicated, it’s highly complex. Timestamps: 10:22 - Understanding your clients (needle question) 14:55 - Getting your customers to use your product more often 17:00 - Achieving negative churns, incentivizing referrals 24:51 - The best lifetime value vs customer acquisition costs ratio 36:53 - When to pull the plug on a certain channel The Episode in 60 Seconds How to find, optimize and scale your sales funnel from early stage to exit. The early mistakes to avoid - Sell like the incumbent: just because one sales funnel is working well for incumbents in your field doesn’t mean it will work for you. Especially if your unit economics are different (think for example on-premise software vs SaaS). - Ignoring the unit economics: especially if you are entering the market with a new kind of business model, it’s very important to know your unit economics in order to understand if you are selling your product in a margin enhancing way or if every sale you achieve actually incurs a net loss. - Only focusing on closing the deal: your long term goal will be to achieve negative churn (gaining more customers than you lose in a certain interval). This will not happen if your product does not delight customers across the entire lifecycle. On data and experiments - Data is your best friend when it comes to finding your most effective sales funnel. Don’t allow your organization to go astray on hunches and gut feelings. - Becoming a data driven organization starts with the mindset and the mindset starts with the people you hire. - Run experiments, and run them often. There is no way you’ll know from the start which funnels will work for you, so testing (and failing) is the only way to find out. - To run a meaningful experiment you need two things: a quantifiable definition of success (and therefore failure) and a significant sample size. Leave either one out and the experiment will not deliver its value. Customer Lifetime Value and Customer Acquisition Cost - A good way to measure success of your sales funnel is the ratio between customer acquisition cost (CAC) and customer lifetime value (LVT). So what you spend to acquire a new customer and what they in turn spend on your product during all the time they are your customer. - There are a variety of ways how to calculate these two numbers. Whichever you choose, make sure it is comparable to benchmarks in your industry. - A good ratio of LTV/CAC is 3-4. If you are higher, you are not spending enough on marketing / growth. If you are lower, you either have a lifetime value problem or you are not spending your marketing / sales budget effectively. Scaling and optimizing your sales funnel - Don’t forget that once your sales funnel works and you have an acceptable and proven LTV/CAC ratio, this will help you get money from investors, because you can say: for X amount of money in, we’ll very likely get Y amount of revenue out. That’s a pretty safe bet. - If you are scaling one of your sales funnel rapidly (especially online), most likely prices will increase because of the higher demand. Therefore it’s important to continuously optimize. Optimization is never done. - Over time, a funnel may change and become less valuable to you. It’s time to pull the plug when you see the quality of customers you are getting through that funnel decrease (i.e. lower LTV). --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/swisspreneur/message

In order to achieve an extraordinary life, we’ve got to have faith. Now, some may say that faith can take many forms, while other believe that only faith in God is what is necessary. Whichever you choose, faith is a complete trust in someone or something that brings confidence. When we have faith in ourselves to go after what we truly desire and take the steps toward achieving it, that is extraordinary faith. John Bevere, the founder of Messenger International has this to say about your extraordinary life. “There's One Person above all others who desires an extraordinary life for you. He is a Father who delights, like any good father, in the achievements and happiness of His children. His name is God! And nothing will please Him more than seeing you reach your highest potential.” Faith isn’t about believing in magic, leprechauns, the tooth fairy or Santa Claus. It is a basic aspect of human nature. Faith is what allows you to function without knowing exactly what is going to happen. We all want that sacred trust in our friends, spouses, family – it is important to our human existence. One of the keys to living an extraordinary life, is to have faith. Adam Grimes, president of Talon Advisors, expects the market to find conviction and direction after the election, whether it takes a turn for the dark with strong selling -- a week or two with no snap back that could trigger a bear market -- or moves back to record highs and holds those peaks to start a new run up. Whichever way the market goes, Grimes says investors need to avoid being on the wrong side of the new momentum, buying a dip that turns into something bigger or taking profits but missing out on a growth wave. Also on the show, Sudarshan Murthy of GQG Partners talks emerging markets and whether they have advantages from coming through the pandemic ahead of other parts of the world, Jill Gonzalez of WalletHub.com discusses the lengths consumers are going to when it comes to iPhones, and Chuck Self of iSectors talks exchange-traded funds and how 'minimizing downside risk' ultimately leads to bigger profits in the Market Call.

Savannah Pope - Freeway, it's her new single release and could it signal a new LP from her in the making. After Atlantis it would make sense. This single release is a further nod to her past, and a glimmer of hope that new work is coming. It follows fairly standard Savannah Pope conventions by now, there's the high octane guitars, booming percussion and of course the inter-stellar vocals of the rock goddess herself. However, it's slightly more introspective than her previous titles, almost lending a certain authenticity to it. Whichever way you look at it it's certainly just another stopgap on Savannah's obvious rise to stardom. Richard heads back to his beloved France and dishes up a Howlin' Banana sandwich. Or should that be a baguette? He brings in two French bangers by Fontanarosa and Volage respectively. In fact, Tobin is a fan. True to form Tobin dons his socialist donkey jacket with DEADLETTER and their grim social commentary. Bookending with Courtney Marie Andrews, Tobin lends a personal and intimate theme to today's show. And that's it! Oh no it's not, sorry, "That Jamie" drags Brandt Brauer Frick in.

How the Golden Age of transatlantic travel between the wars transformed women's lives across all classes - a vivid portrait of life on-board the iconic ocean liners. Migrants and millionairesses, refugees and aristocrats all looking for a way to improve their lives. After WW1 a world of opportunity was opening up for women ... Before convenient air travel, transatlantic travel was the province of the great ocean liners and never more so than in the glory days of the interwar years. It was an extraordinary undertaking made by many women. Some traveled for leisure, some for work; others to find a new life, marriage, to reinvent themselves or find new opportunities. Their stories have remained largely untold - until now. Maiden Voyages is a fascinating portrait of these women, and their lives on board magnificent ocean liners as they sailed between the old and the new worlds. The ocean liner was a microcosm of contemporary society, divided by class: from the luxury of the upper deck, playground for the rich and famous, to the cramped conditions of steerage or third class travel. These iconic liners were filled with women of all ages, classes and backgrounds: celebrities and refugees, migrants and millionairesses, aristocrats and crew members. Full of incredible gossip, stories and intrigue, Maiden Voyages has a diverse cast of inspiring women - from A-listers like Josephine Baker, a dancer from St Louis who found fame in Paris, Marlene Dietrich and Wallis Simpson, Violet 'the unsinkable' Jessop, a crew member who survived the sinking of the Titanic, and entrepreneur Sibyl Colefax, a pioneering interior designer. Whichever direction they were travelling, whatever hopes they entertained, they were all under the spell of life at sea, a spell which would only break when they went ashore. Maiden Voyages is a compelling and highly entertaining account of life on board: part dream factory, part place of work, independence and escape - always moving.
Getting laid off is an experience that no one wants to encounter- unfortunately, thousands of men and women across the country are coming face to face with this stark reality. How should you respond to getting laid off? What is the smartest financial course of action when you find yourself having to deal with a layoff? As our country deals with COVID 19 and the economic repercussions of the ensuing lockdowns, many people are wringing their hands - trying to find a financially feasible path forward. Don’t let fear and uncertainty rule your decision making - use facts and data! Tune into this episode as I explain how hard-working people like you should respond when faced with a layoff - you don’t want to miss a minute! You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... Taking a hard look at your budget after a layoff? [1:30] Stabilizing your health care coverage. [4:00] Using your retirement investments while unemployed. [5:45] Getting back into the workforce. [10:00] Evaluating your budget One of the first things you should do when faced with an income shortage or layoff is to re-evaluate your budget. While most people dread this thought, the truth is, you can really locate a lot of unnecessary expenditures by taking a hard look at your budget. From streaming services to subscription boxes and more, reigning in your budget can help you buy some time before you start writing your next chapter. I also encourage people who have just faced a layoff to make sure they secure their connection to health coverage - the last thing you need is healthcare coverage that has lapsed when you are unemployed. Writing the next chapter You’ve heard the saying “To get what you’ve never had, you must do what you’ve never done” this can apply to your financial journey as well. It’s hard for people to imagine getting to where they’ve never been in life or business if they don’t set a goal. If you’ve faced a layoff and you’ve taken the time to evaluate your budget and secure your healthcare - the next step is to make a plan. Is it time to retire and close the door on your time in the workforce? Or is it time to dust off your resume and apply for a position with a new company? Whichever course is the right one to take for your family - this is the episode for you! Connect With Morrissey Wealth Management www.MorrisseyWealthManagement.com/contact

On this episode of the world famous Sofa King Podcast, we take on some ancient Norse mythology and talk about Odin, the Allfather. The myths surrounding him are amazing; his impact on Viking culture was second to none; and his rapidly growing worship today ranges from heathens to white supremacists. This is a god of war, death, poetry, magic, and wisdom. People would sacrifice humans in his honor before battle, and he was always ready to do battle in the final war, Ragnarok, the Twilight of the Gods! Odin was born to a god and a giantess and became the king of a race of gods called the Aesir. This group (Thor, Loki, Baldur, Heimdall, Frigga, just to name a few) went to war with other gods call the Vanir and with the giants who would one day rise and end the world. Once mature, he and his brothers forged the earth out of the bones of a giant, and he was made king of the gods. But he wasn’t a normal god king, one who was worshipped by the masses of the Norse world. They saw him as the king of gods, but spent most of their time worshiping other gods. Instead, Odin preferred the elite, and that was who worshipped him—kings, warriors, scholar/poets, and sorcerers. Odin’s will would make or break a battle. Whichever side gave the best sacrifice would get the best results in the battle. And either way, Odin won. Because his shield maidens—the Valkyrie—would ride in and take all those slain in honorable combat. Half would go to him, and they would train for all eternity fighting and dying every night only to be reborn in the morning until Ragnarok. But Odin was also the god of knowledge. He gave up his eye for magical sight, and he hung himself in a tree as a sacrifice to learn the mystical runes. This Allfather of the gods was abandoned for Christianity around the year 1000, but he has recently made a comeback with religion of Asatru. It is a heathen worship of the old Norse gods, and it is the fastest growing religion in Iceland. However, it was co-opted by white supremacist groups who see the Vikings as pure white conquerors, and the real religion is now in a spiritual conquest against the skinheads to be the true worshippers of Odin. Cold & Heat It’s interesting how many come to appreciate sauna from the cold, and conversely how many come to appreciate the cold from sauna. Whichever the point of introduction, Jesse and I agree that with cold plunge and sauna, 1+1=3. You’ll hear from Jesse why this is. We will hear about his personal journey towards the powerful goodness of breath work and cold exposure. For most all Finns and sauna owners in Nordic regions of Europe and similar climates in North America, we refer to a few sauna round and a jump into a nICE cold lake just something you do. The practice is built into the rhythm of the day. “I’m going to cut the grass then go sauna.” Or “the sauna will be hot around 5pm, come on by.” Contrast Therapy Yet for athletes looking for an edge, or folks stressed out, or others with a varied list of mental and physical problems, we are seeing some serious positivity with “contrast therapy.” Jesse’s Bio Jesse Coomer is an author, professional breathworker, cold training expert, certified Wim Hof Method instructor, personal trainer and a Professor of English at Vincennes University, Indiana. He’s also a voice of practicality in the world of breathwork and cold exposure on his YouTube channel, Midwestern Method. On a personal note, Jesse and I share a timeline. We each first learned about Wim Hof back in 2015. We each followed our own path into the Wim Hof Method and all its goodness. You can hear my interview with Wim on this same Sauna Talk podcast. Jesse was one of the first handful of certified Wim Hof instructors in the US. His passion for living well through breath work and cold exposure comes through in this interview. Jesse has two ebooks available: A Practical Guide to Breath Work, And A Practical Guide to Cold Training. Well worth it for those of us interested in diving deeper into the cold and goodness. So, let’s welcome Jesse Coomer to Sauna Talk!

In today’s episode the boys explore the history of talking trash! In other words, psyching your opponent out. Who does it best? Connor McGregor, Mohammed Ali, Presidents? Are you an 'actions speak louder than words' person or do you talk your opponent down? Whichever you prefer, wherever the setting is, it's a plausible technique. Having a psychological edge on someone else, especially on a competitive standpoint is huge. But we go further - we explore why today’s modern society is drawn to the back and forth debate. If anything trash talk sells. Trash talk creates discussion and trash talk may even influence your decision on who to put your money on. In a ring, in the office, in an octagon, in politics or even on stage. We discuss the in and outs of “trash talking”. About the podcast: Journey to Wherever is a weekly podcast by two mates who also just happen to be brother-in laws, getting together to record discussions that shouldn't be left unsaid. Leading and running two very successful multi-million dollar companies would take an exceptional leader, and an exceptional example of that would be our today’s guest: Mr. Patrick Bet David. Patrick is a refugee from Iran, joined the military, before starting his venture in a business career in the financial services industry. In his early days, he said his dream is to become a body-builder and maybe join Hollywood. But his love for numbers paved the way for him being a financial advisor before building his own agency. He met a girl who he dated before who was a financial advisor for Lakers players and he saw that she makes good money. He got interested and dive into it without having a degree. After a tenure with a couple of traditional companies, he was inspired to launch PHP Agency Inc. Today, he has 16,000 agents in 49 States with over a half a million square feet of office space. Patrick is passionate about helping the next generation of entrepreneurs by teaching thought-provoking perspectives on entrepreneurship and disrupting the traditional approach to a career. Not only is he successful in his agency and making courses available to other CEO’s and thought-leaders, but he is also very popular with his media company: Valuetainment, which has been referred to as “the best channel for entrepreneurs.” Be prepared to be inspired today, as Patrick will share how he successfully lead two very successful business simultaneously, what his mindset has been, what’s his leadership skills, and how he imparts them to his family, especially his kids. There's complete different platforms that we have. And once you do that, you earn respect from both sides of the audience and they trust you more to do business with them. [11:54] there's one of three gifts that we all have. You're either a great writer. You're either a great with audio or you're great on camera. Whichever one you're good with lead with that [15:03] I think too many people do too creative stuff, way too early. [18:04] I'm a 20, 20, 20 guy, meaning first 20 years of your life, try to not make a big mistake where you ruin your life. The second 20 years is find a career and stay in it for 20 years and make your money. The next 20 years, I'm going to combine my passion and business together. The last 20 years for me is going to be contribution. [19:19] Money's gonna make a lot of the big decisions in your life and you cannot treat it casually. You have to take it very seriously. So profit matters just as much as passion does and value does. [23:12] As a parent, ask these questions: If you had to show certain values and principles to your kids, to give them the biggest upside to have their dreams become a reality, how would you change your approach to your example you're giving to them because they're going to duplicate you in what ways would they need to live to have their dreams become a reality? And if they do what you do as a parent, will their dreams become a reality? [25:02] I just want to find what excites them the most and what their strengths are. And then I want to put them in that environment that highlights their strengths and their gifts. [28:07] The number one key to success in my eyes is learning how to process issues. [35:03] I think a lot of times leaders are afraid of having civil conversations with people that you have to have would push buttons because they are so concerned about being like all the time. And I think in the world of leadership, you gotta be able to have the courage to do that. [36:54] Go find somebody that's strong and shadow them for as long as you can, until you no longer need them. Tuesday 29th September 2020 US and European equities rose sharply, with rising confidence seeing a fall in the US dollar and a rise in the Aussie. The reports that the US President has paid very little in tax might provide some fodder for Joe Biden in the TV debate and NAB’s Tapas Strickland says it could influence undecided voters. Whichever way you look at it, it’s going to be a messy election. Meanwhile, the pound has gained in hopes of a Brexit deal, which has offset any concerns about further lockdowns in the UK. The gains in the Aussie dollar will be partially influenced by an expectation that the RBA won’t cut rates next week, waiting instead till November.

The Greens, The Opportunities and Maori Parties all want to break the political deadlock - and decades of inaction - over who owns freshwater. It's the political hot potato which neither Labour or National want to touch - with both major parties taking the position that no-one owns water. Whichever of them is in government, the Crown effectively acts as an owner, by allocating and charging for consents. But some of the minor parties have united on the issue. Meriana Johnsen has more.
Winter is coming.I mean that in every sense of the phrase. As if 2020 weren't awful enough -- as if the mortal threats facing the United States weren't piling up to the extreme -- now there's just one more thing. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died, God rest her soul, and now we face perhaps the bloodiest (perhaps literally) Supreme Court confirmation battle we've ever seen. This latest "one more damn thing" comes amid a catastrophic pandemic, an intractable culture war, a cold civil war that already was threatening to go hot . . . and a brutal presidential election in which one of the candidates is a budding authoritarian dictator. To tell you the truth, this is looking like one thing too many for our divided and traumatized country to take.I am not an optimist by nature. Usually, I count on expecting the worst, then being pleasantly surprised.I fear the glass half empty is about to catch up with me . . . and with us all.Yet, the Big Show must go on. I hope, as fine a country as Canada is, the future address won't end up being (fill in the blank), by God, Ontario. Or Manitoba. Whichever. That assumes, however, that Canada would let Americans in. That's a big assumption, because it won't let us in now.Because the 'rona . . . and because Typhoid Yankee.Still, we do what we can do for as long as we can do it. In this case, that would be 3 Chords & the Truth and playing great, eclectic music while trying not to make you as depressed as I am right now.By the way, this week's edition of the show is particularly tasty. It will either take your mind off things, or perhaps you can be depressed to a bitchin' beat.Don't think twice, it's all right. On the other hand, you can't be too strong as the city drops into the night.C'est tout. It's 3 Chords & the Truth, y'all. Be there. Aloha.

Some new inductees and veterans of The Proud Boys discuss the irony of being labeled a “white supremacy” group, considering that over half of the participants in this episode are not “white”. In fact, they’re either Latin Americans who do not believe in that label either, or they’re hammerhead Asians hell bent on being yellow on the outside and white on the inside. Whichever way you slice it, these Proud Boys are ALL 100% Americans! Proud Boys don’t believe in Labels. They just believe in Freedom and Unity and God. In this episode of Bears On Tap Brandon Suarez, Duke Coughlin, and Lucas Perfetti are finally previewing a football game. The Bears are headed to Detroit and this Lions team is much better than 2019. They have added a ton of former Patriots on defense and Matt Patricia is hoping to fix his defensive struggles on a lacking Bears offense. We all know what type of threat Matthew Stafford can be and you can't expect the Bears defense to shut out that offense. Stafford will surly test rookie cornerback, Jaylon Johnson, early and often. If Johnson plays well, the defense should be able to roll. Most of the question marks are on the Bears offense and the Lions defense. Whichever unit plays better will determine the winner of the game. We also take a look at the final 53 man roster and practice squad. There were a few shocking names that made the roster, and also a few surprise cuts. Hear it all here, on this episode of Bears On Tap.
The journal—it’s one of those things that can be as useless as a piece of trash, or one of the most valuable things you’ve ever owned… It all depends on what you fill that journal’s pages with. Today, I’m going to share some of my personal favorite journaling ideas. You can use them all, combine the ones you like, or pick the single journaling idea that most resonates with where you’re at in life right now. Either way, journaling—when done regularly—almost always leads to fresh, new insights and ideas that can absolutely transform your life. I’ve used all of these journaling ideas below at some point in my life. Either to get through tough times, to achieve my goals, maintain my sanity, or to foster my creative efforts (like fleshing out topic ideas for articles, podcasts or talks.) Whichever one of these journaling ideas you decide to use, just promise me this: you’ll actually use them. Because they’ll only work if you work them… FULL ARTICLE VERSION AVAILABLE HERE: https://www.deanbokhari.com/journaling-ideas/ NOTE: This episode is a rerun of EP#181.
