He has been placed on the honor roll several times and was awarded a sizable college scholarship. He also runs his own Instagram program, Steel Reviewing. I also have a country guy named Caleb Creamens. Born in 2004, Caleb, who is from Washington, Indiana, has cerebral palsy. Like me, he studies broadcasting at Vincennes University. Caleb also likes wrestling, NASCAR, basketball, football, and country music. Next is my close companion, Andie Schroyer. Andie serves as a 21-year-old student studying medical lab science. She does drawings and games in her spare time. She grew up with her cousin, who was diagnosed with Malan syndrome and autism. And last, Maddie Jordan, who is amazing. Maddie was born in December 2001. She currently works as a teacher at Bloomfield Elementary. In addition to being the drummer in the Greene County Community Band, her younger sister is on the autism spectrum, and they are here to give their perspectives on having a friend with autism. This episode is rated a 5 (on my Serious Crime Scale). It's the story of not one, but two victims who tragically lost their lives at the hands of an unlikely suspect – a person who would only be caught because he left behind the same clue at both crime scenes. In 1997, Vincennes University student Brook Baker was raped and brutally murdered in her off-campus home. Police interviewed hundreds of potential suspects but were only led to dead ends. That is, until the killer struck again two years later. In 1999, Vincennes University student Erika Norman also was raped and murdered in the same way, and the killer left behind the same type of crime scene. But the second time, he was sloppy, and police were led right to him. Listen now to hear the full story. Welcome to Embers and Wind! Guest Kirk Bouchie, current Rotary District #6580 Governor serving southern Indiana, shares what drew him to Rotary “I joined Rotary #1 because I was asked. One of our board members asked me to join and to come to Rotary. And #2, I thought it was a good thing to do as a community leader, a young community leader. I really didn't know what I was doing at that point, but I knew that there were a lot of people that were in the Rotary club at that time that I needed to get to know. Many of them I knew. Having grown up here, I knew the names. I probably knew some of the families. I knew a lot of the people that were in leadership at that time, I knew a lot of their kids because I was kind of the next generation. It gave me an opportunity to meet more people in an informal setting. I guess the buzz word now that we use for that is networking.” I'm your host, Keith Weedman. In each podcast episode, you will hear stories. These stories will feel like a tender wind blowing on the embers of service that glow within you. In this weekly show, you will learn ideas, kindling for your embers. It will be your choice to utilize the gentle wind to ignite the kindling. He talks about how volunteering for the Babe Ruth League fits Rotary's call for selfless service. He shares that he joined Rotary for networking and stays engaged because he enjoyed the fellowship being among people with benevolent hearts doing good work in their community. This week on Expanded Perspectives Classic Rewind we go all the way back to April 7th, 2014 when we spoke with Rick Osmon about Romans in America prior to Christopher Columbus. Rick Osmon was selected for the United States Air Force Academy right out of high school. He later attended Vincennes University and earned an Associates of Science in Laser and Electro-Optics Technology. He worked for defense contractors a number of years and then took a job with the US Navy as a civilian with an engineering support field activity, specializing in radar, night vision, and laser equipment for surveillance and munitions guidance. Most of this work was in direct support of Special Operations forces equipment acquisitions. In that capacity, Rick also became familiar with video-teleconferencing technology. But all those years, Rick was also reading everything he could find about the weird and unusual, history, archeology, paleontology, geography, cartography, cryptozoology, cryptography, and hollow earth theory. After leaving government employment in early 2005, Rick began this hunt for hidden knowledge full-time. He also began blogging, researching, and writing, and, in early 2007, started an internet radio show entitled “The Oopa Loopa Cafe”. In 2008, he began pestering his long-time research buddy, Dennis Crenshaw, to start another internet show about the various mysteries. Dennis chose the title “Unraveling the Secrets”. At the beginning of 2010, those 2 shows became part of an affiliation network with other show hosts to form Paranormal Soup Network. By the end of 2010, the endeavor was re-branded and renamed the Soup Media Network. Now Rick is becoming well known on the conference circuit and is writing more than blogs. His first book, The Graves of the Golden Bear; Ancient Monuments and Fortresses of the Ohio Valley released in October 2011. It was the spring of 1997 and Brooke Baker was a journalism student at Vincennes University in Indiana, working on an expose of one of the fraternities on campus. One night, her brother went to visit her apartment where he found her dead in her bedroom. In the bathroom, the tub had been left running, and the kitchen sink had been filled with water. As police investigated, their suspect list continued to grow faster than they could eliminate people - there were the brothers of the fraternity, the creepy landlord who would come into her apartment often unannounced, her on again, off again boyfriend. But every lead they went down turned up more questions than answers... Take a servant's heart, an innate talent for organization, and the energy to make things happen. The result is Peachtree City, GA, charity executive Mike Conaway. Mike spent 20 years in the corrugated industry in the U.S. and Central America, first as an engineer, then in sales and finally, as a business owner. The leadership skills he gained through sales and business were put to greater use when he became an ordained minister and coordinated a Peachtree City congregation's outreach programs that included a “car care” that performed basic automotive services for needy individuals with many donated materials. Another program provided after-school backpacks filled with food and necessities to children of working or absent parents. Conaway's community outreach led to a 501c3 nonprofit community health service, Healing Bridge Clinic, that provides healthcare to the underserved communities of central Georgia. First recruited to the board of directors, he became full time executive director in 2018. Since taking leadership of the HBC the value of medical care provided to the community has increased from $241,400 in 2017 to $1,200,000 in 2020. Mike led the organization through the 2020 pandemic shutdown while sustaining needed funding and increasing the impact made on the local community. Mike is the co-founder of the Fore Our Community Charity Golf Classic – a partnership between two nonprofits serving the same community, coming together to raise money for both. Proving his creativity and flexibility, the Healing Bridge Clinic transformed its annual fundraising dinner to a virtual event that saved expenses while generating substantial monies for the organization. Additionally, the HBC's services continued to expand while the pandemic provided a pause that allowed more creative administration of free medical services. Mike Conaway believes that independent charitable institutions can serve communities as well or better than bureaucracies with appropriate support; that a helping hand at an appropriate time in an individual's life can lead them to greater control of their future and perhaps, to financial independence and an opportunity to pay it forward to others. Mike Conaway has been married for 37 years to wife Shirley and has one adult son, Shawn. He as an A.S. degree in industrial technologies from Vincennes University. To learn more about The Healing Bridge Clinic, to make donations, or to explore volunteer opportunities, check out their website: https://healingbridgeclinic.org/

Cold & Heat It’s interesting how many come to appreciate sauna from the cold, and conversely how many come to appreciate the cold from sauna. Whichever the point of introduction, Jesse and I agree that with cold plunge and sauna, 1+1=3. You’ll hear from Jesse why this is. We will hear about his personal journey towards the powerful goodness of breath work and cold exposure. For most all Finns and sauna owners in Nordic regions of Europe and similar climates in North America, we refer to a few sauna round and a jump into a nICE cold lake just something you do. The practice is built into the rhythm of the day. “I’m going to cut the grass then go sauna.” Or “the sauna will be hot around 5pm, come on by.” Contrast Therapy Yet for athletes looking for an edge, or folks stressed out, or others with a varied list of mental and physical problems, we are seeing some serious positivity with “contrast therapy.” Jesse’s Bio Jesse Coomer is an author, professional breathworker, cold training expert, certified Wim Hof Method instructor, personal trainer and a Professor of English at Vincennes University, Indiana. He’s also a voice of practicality in the world of breathwork and cold exposure on his YouTube channel, Midwestern Method. On a personal note, Jesse and I share a timeline. In 2009, he began a life transformation mission that led him to discover how our physiology and psychology often conflict with the modern world. In 2014, he became passionate about breath training as a method to combat his anxiety. Shanell Thomas was born and raised in Gary, Indiana, on September 1st, 1989. She obtained her diploma at the only performing arts school in Gary, Emerson Visual Performing Arts. It was there where she majored in Acting through her Junior High and the rest of her High School years. After graduating in June of 2009, she went off that Fall to study theater at Vincennes University. After only completing two years at Vincennes, Shanell finally decided to move closer to home. She had been struggling academically and financially to stay in school, while also battling a few health issues. When being away in college over the years, she began suffering from depression and anxiety. Her parents became very concerned and suggested that she took classes closer to Gary. In the Fall of 2011, Shanell moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, only two hours from her hometown to attend Ivy Tech Community College. It was inexpensive and closer to her parents. She thought the move would be helpful and allow her to complete her degree and manage her stress. It was not long after where her anxiety grew worse, and she started suffering from panic attacks. The attacks were so severe that she would have fainting spells that later resulted in her moving back home for good to be under the care of her family. After moving back home in 2012, it was then Shanell met and eventually married, who is now her ex-husband, Mr. Simmons. They were together a total of seven years and married two and a half years. The two later shared a beautiful daughter but unfortunately, a few marital issues along the way that resulted in them growing apart. After trying to fix what had been broken for years, a decision was made to separate in October 2016. In December 2018, the two divorced and went their separate ways after two years of being isolated and living apart. Shanell had no choice but to move back in with her parents to do that she could get back on her feet. While also living with her parents, she cared for her sickly father up until his death on September 10, 2018. It was after that she realized how important it was for her to start entirely over and figure out a plan for her and her daughter. Shanell worked more than one job at a time to provide while also balancing the role of a single parent. She came up with a plan and decided to focus on servicing her community through her own nonprofit that will serve as a tool to build up the community. Shanell is now the CEO and Founder of Center Stage Mentoring Inc., which focuses on mentoring the youth and encouraging them to be great leaders for the future. She has been acknowledged as a role model in her hometown and rewarded as a great Mentor and Teen Coordinator through the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana. Her role as a Mentor over the years has paid off tremendously, giving her the respect she deserves from her good deeds and active commitment with her organization. Shanell Thomas now resides in Indianapolis, Indiana, with her beautiful daughter and her newfound love who has encouraged her along the way and joined her in expanding Center Stage to the Indianapolis area. She has also started her jewelry line through Paparazzi Accessories called “Shanell’s Boutique,” where she sells jewelry and accessories for a reasonable price. Ms. Thomas is always working and is hoping to publish a book soon to speak more on her journey and accomplishments. This is just the beginning of her story. You can find Shanell Thomas on all Social Media Pages. Don’t forget…If you have a suggestion or would like to be on Worldly Church Girl, shoot an email to https://worldlychurchgirl.com/contact/
