We live in a world where people have become more distant from nature. We take it for granted, especially as the world continues to advance. But with global warming becoming more real than ever, it is time that we snap out of our bubble and look into how we are taking care of nature, of the very place we call home. Jennifer Whitacre is joined by none other than the founder and CEO of Human Nature Projects, Elliot Connor, to talk about reconnecting with nature, past the delusion that somehow we're separate from it. Leading an international environmental charity supporting volunteers across 104 countries, Elliot shares with us his mission to reframe our human relationship with the natural world. He also talks about the lessons nature offers us, how it helps us see who we are and how we treat others and discusses the systemic bias that keeps us from closing that gap between us and nature. Join Elliot and Jennifer in this conversation to learn more about how we can reconnect this relationship before it's too late.

VulnerABLE Podcast

This is Episode 36 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! She had a very traumatic upbringing with two abusive parents, and no outlet for her pain. Now she's helping people overcome their trauma to build a better future, and she got here through resilience. She grew up with abusive parents, both in their own ways but in her words she was born into struggle. What she didn’t realize is the trauma this would leave her with until much later in life. It would make her tell herself stories like it was her fault, that she needed to be perfect, and she had no clue what to do about it. She couldn’t even find support because if her parents found out she said anything to anyone it meant there was a price to pay later on. This would lead to low self-esteem, and many other issues that lasted well into adulthood. Even when she finally decided to attend therapy, it took time before she was able to fully open up and face the trauma of her past. In a relationship years later she would realize that an argument was triggered by a past event. Essentially she was crippled when it came to make choices because of being berated by her father for a choice she made at 5 years old. This is just one of many issues that she had to work through over the years to get to the point where she is now. If you ask her the thing that made her a survivor was resilience, which is odd because most people who experience what she did have very little to no resilience at all. Now she works with others to help them uncover their traumas and work through them to become a better version of themselves. Most people who faced what she did would just be crippled in a corner, but she’s working to make sure that doesn’t happen. For more information on Jennifer Whitacre you can follow her on social media or visit her website:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/yesandjw/Website: http://jenniferwhitacre.com/Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/YesAndJW

As an Empowerment Strategist, Jennifer works with practitioners and clients who are feeling stuck and overwhelmed by typical, mainstream modalities. Over the past several years, Jennifer has studied the life-long effects of trauma and abuse and she has discovered several tools and techniques that work well for overcoming these effects that often hold us back in life. Jennifer uses all of these tools and techniques to help he clients explore the depths of themselves in order to effect change in their lives. Noteworthy questions: How do we renegotiate the nervous system? (9:02) Do our emotions get affected by the outer or inner world? (22:09) How do we discern emotions? (29:42) What is trauma and how do we work through it? (46:44) Key takeaways In your first 7 years of your life, you are in a brain wave state that creates much of who you are. If you are the common element in a repeating pattern then it’s worth looking at yourself as the obstacle. Just because you have the right to be (add emotion - eg. angry), does not mean you should let (emotion) dictate your words or actions. If there is no space between stimulus and response, we automatically go into reaction. Are you ready to learn secrets to Self-Empowerment? The journey from self-sabotage to self-empowerment, can be truly challenging as well as transformational. But it is not for the “faint of heart”, according to my guest Jennifer Whitacre. True transformation takes work, but the rewards are so worth the process. Jennifer Whitacre is an empowerment strategist who knows firsthand the effects of dysfunction and disempowering beliefs carried forward from childhood. Her ability to overcome depression, anxiety and cPTSD give her a unique perspective on how to overcome self-sabotaging beliefs. She now approaches life unapologetically and authentically, which has completely transformed her life and business. Jennifer will reveal: 1. Why it is important to question your own beliefs 2. The negative effects of Self-Sabotage 3. How to transform old Beliefs into new Empowering Habits Learning how to communicate better has helped Jennifer in both in her work life and in her personal life. She has a clear sense of what she values and can see where she spent a lot of years taking on what other people told her to value. Knowing her values helps her gauge success by her own standards. Jennifer learned when to say no and how to establish healthier boundaries. Most importantly, having gone through this journey herself, she has the superpower of seeing when other people are not living in alignment with their own values. Empowerment Strategist, Jennifer Whitacre joins Laura to talk about the path to empowerment. What is empowerment and how can it help you be happier and more successful. In this episode; • Self-awareness is key to healing. • Compassion isn’t always “nice” or “kind,” and sugar-coating a truth isn’t compassionate. • When we shift our focus inward, the external world changes. • Trauma isn’t about what happened to you, and we need to get beyond the story to heal. • It’s not as scary to face your emotions as you might think it is. People have a resistance to emoting, and when you learn how emotions are really meant to work, they become a strength, not something to be feared. About Jennifer; Jennifer Whitacre is an Empowerment Strategist, the host of the Yes, And… Podcast, and an expert myofascial release therapist who has a lifetime of experience in making sense of the long-term effects of childhood abuse and trauma. Jennifer believes our approach to abuse and trauma desperately needs reframing in our country because we’re making it worse with our current approach. Jennifer’s podcast, her writing, and her work with clients all revolve around inspiring people to shift their focus so they can move forward in life, because so many of us are feeling lost, stuck, and overwhelmed. She helps people discover the root causes of their issues using a combination of tools, including Compassionate Inquiry, Somatic Experiencing, NLP, Subtle Energy, and body language, to name a few. Jennifer can help you learn your own unique Life GPS System. Learning hers changed her life, and she wants you to experience this transformation for yourself. She helps her clients understand how one dysfunctional area in their life can affect many others, and how that creates chronic pain, dis/ease, anxiety, depression, addiction and suffering. Where traditional medicine lacks, Jennifer picks up and takes a different approach to help reveal the source of an issue.
