A shooting outside Cessna Elementary School in South Wichita stemmed from a domestic dispute between a husband and wife, authorities confirmed. The couple was dropping off their children for class when the altercation escalated. According to Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter, a Lyft driver had brought the family to the school when the 46-year-old husband allegedly pulled out a gun and shot his 30-year-old wife in the chest. The couple's children had already entered the school when the incident occurred just before 9:15 a.m. Witnesses reported seeing the woman running toward the school for help, with her husband chasing her. A sheriff's deputy arrived on the scene and saw the man pointing the gun at his wife's head. In an attempt to protect the woman, the deputy fired his weapon, shooting the suspect. The Wichita Police Department reported that after the suspect placed the gun to his wife's head, the deputy ordered him to drop the weapon. When he refused and made threatening statements, the deputy fired twice. A brief struggle ensued as the deputy attempted to disarm and apprehend the suspect. Both the husband and wife were transported to the hospital with critical injuries. The husband was reportedly in "code blue" condition, indicating he was either unresponsive or in cardiac arrest. No students or staff members were harmed in the incident, and authorities emphasized that there was no active shooter inside the school. However, afternoon prekindergarten classes were canceled, and parents were given the option to pick up their children early. School officials placed the building on lockdown as law enforcement quickly secured the area. A section of Clarence Street, where the initial shots were fired, was cordoned off as investigators worked to collect evidence. The school's security footage captured the chilling moments when the suspect chased his injured wife toward the school. Sheriff Easter reiterated that the shooting was a result of domestic violence and not a targeted school attack, though the location heightened concerns among parents. “It can be scary for parents,” said Easter. “But law enforcement arrived within two minutes, and the children were never in immediate danger.” Police are continuing to investigate, including questioning the Lyft driver who had transported the family. That grief becomes compounded when a case that's already been solved however family & law enforcement are still trying to locate remains becomes a media circus. Members of the “BTK Taskforce recently misrepresented the facts of this case & others to gain notoriety to push their agenda for a TV program. Victims families are crying out that their loved ones are being used as props but their pleas are dismissed. We also discuss the TRUE BTK TASKFORCE the dedicated officers of the Wichita Police Department also known as the Ghostbusters led by Kenneth Landwehr. Operation Save-A-Casing is a partnership with law enforcement agencies at the local, state and federal level and the community to combat firearm-related crime. The campaign works by submitting two firearm casings to a Wichita Police Department Officer after a gun theft has occurred. These casings are then submitted into National Integrated Ballistic Information Network known as NIBIN. NIBIN is a national database containing digital images of spent bullets and cartridge casings that were found at crime scenes or test-fired from confiscated firearms. This database can be searched for possible matches and if a "hit" occurs, the NIBIN lab sends that information to WPD investigators.EPISODE PAGE: https://thebreakdown.ca/033Officer Paul Estrada Cruz has been with the Wichita Police Department for over eight years. It may still feel humid, though. Skies will be partly cloudy today, with a slight chance of rain. A new patrol is hitting the streets for the Wichita Police Department. They won’t be carrying guns, or badges, or even Mace. They are members of the new Volunteers in Policing program.
