On this week's episode, Ben sat down with We're from Antarctica!Easton, Pennsylvania's very own indie quintet, We're From Antarctica, emerged onto the scene in late 2018 through a series of serendipitous events that would lead Carlos “Paco” Brown (Vocals, Rhythm guitar), Jessie Rae (Vocals, Keys), Jon Blanco (Lead guitar), Mackenzie Kressley (Bass) and Christopher Kendall (Drums) to meet. The group's debut album, “The People We Knew”(2019) took off to much acclaim. The reviews are in: “The kind of music you play in the background as you make dinner for the friend you've been secretly in love with for two years now.” “Wistful make-out music.” While extensively touring through the years, the band has had the opportunity to open for national touring acts such as: Frankie Cosmos, The Unlikely Candidates, and Ryan Cabrera. Their sophomore album, “We'll Figure It Out” is releasing on September 27. Recorded December 2022-January 2024 at Headroom Studios, the album is a culmination of the sonic stylings of each member entering a new era that defines this group's sound. The album is being produced by Kyle Pulley, who has engineered artists such as Alex G, Cafuné, and Dr. Dog.You can follow We're from Antarctica on Instagram at @werefromantarctica, or TikTok, Bandcamp, Youtube, Spotify, Apple Music, and Soundcloud. Pulling up a pew at Grace's house to launch a new season of Comfort Eating is the legendary comedian and author, David Baddiel. With a career spanning 40 years on TV, stage and radio, not to mention coining anthemic football songs and writing multiple bestselling books for adults and children, David has a unique place in our nation's popular culture. He brings Grace his favourite comfort snack and while demolishing this cherished chow, David opens up about family, relationships and an obsession with telling the truth. Together, he and Grace take a trip down memory lane back to the 90s when their paths crossed. Wistful, honest and outrageous – it's a conversation best served with a dollop of brown sauce. Just make sure the bread's white and squishy
Cheers! (wasn't that clink sexy??) John Anthony and Andrea are thinking a lot about friendships in this episode. What has happened to the friends who've wronged us? The friends (and lovers) we've let go?? Who holds our histories??!? It's giving philosopher. It's giving depth. Look, sometimes we don't have the capacity to be silly little girls. Frivolity isn't always the answer!!! Apres the deep stuff, Janth fills us in on his recent trip to San Francisco (dance floor make-outs, high heels, and a surprise appearance from an LA character) and drops a BOMBSHELL live on the pod. And let's just say, Andrea is...not happy. Your horny hosts also share their thoughts on the two hottest books at current: Julia Fox's memoir and Britney Spears' memoir.

"Leisureland" Although he was born Eric Goulden in East Sussex, my guest today on the program is perhaps best known in the music industry as Wreckless Eric. Under that moniker he first garnered attention with his song The Whole Wide World, a shambolic blast of joyful punk that landed him a deal with Stiff Records. At the time, Stiff was just getting going and they had Ian Dury Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe on their roster. Not too shabby. The art school graduate was more than just one killer song--since the '70s he's cranked out almost ten perfect solo albums of scruffy pop magic that demonstrate Wreckless Eric is a singular and very special talent. His new album Leisureland is the perfect album to play while you're saying goodbye to summer. Wistful, nostalgic and equal parts ferocious and elegant, Leisureland is filled with ragtag pop, garage stomp, and percussive muscle augmented by beats and loops. And it's fabulous. Over the years he's played with The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Damned, John Wesley Harding, The Proclaimers, and his wife Amy Rigby. His work has been covered by everyone from Cage the Elephant, to Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong. He's also been in a lot of bands like The Len Bright Combo, The Hitsville House Band, and The Donovan of Trash and the fact is, everything he does is wonderful and brilliant and infectious. The guy is the real deal. www.wrecklesseric.com www.bombshellradio.com www.embersarts.com STEREO EMBERS THE PODCAST Twittter: @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast EMAIL: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

[click, static] Time has sort of lost meaning in a lot of ways these past few years. The seasons always give the year shape, but there's no other structure to each day or each week or each month. The first few days I was driving, I kept track of how many miles I logged each day. I'm not bothering with that now. [click, static] I think it's really starting to hit me that I'll never see Harry again. [click, static] I'm not...I'm not sad about that. Don't get it twisted, I'm glad to be out of there, glad to be rid of her, even if it means I'm on my own but I'm... I'm something. [click, static] Wistful? No, that's not it. I'm not sad, I'm not happy, I'm not regretful, but there's a certain...a certain pit in my stomach at the thought. [click, static] I'd like to think that it's just because the idea of never seeing Harry again makes me wonder if I'll ever see anyone ever again, but there's no point in lying to myself or to you, whoever might be listening, so I have to admit that it's not entirely not about her, you know? [click, static] It wasn't all miserable. If I could go back and do things differently, I absolutely one hundred percent would, but it wasn't all terrible. There's that symbiotic bond that forms out of what we went through. I don't think it's a particularly healthy one, or even an at all nice one, but it's there. And it's...specific. [click, static] Like the haircuts. Or when I'd paint her nails because she never got the hang of doing her right hand herself. We shared a house, the same two shitty winter coats we had, the one pair of snow boots we found. We shared every meal, always cooking enough for two. Every problem, every little victory...all of them were ours, even in the times when we were barely speaking to each other. I've found myself wondering if she stayed. I have to think she did, that she's still there, in that house, with all her paintings and her garden and the chickens. Because that was part of the problem, wasn't it? She never wanted to leave, never wanted to venture outside the boundary we'd drawn for ourselves back when it seemed like our past catching up to us was inevitable. So of course she stays. She'll probably die in that house. [click, static] It doesn't matter. None of it matters. I said I wasn't going back and I'm not. I'm not going back. [click, static]

This one is being posted a little later than I wanted to. I couldn't help it. I had to go to Florida...again!! It's like that time a few years ago? When I went down to Florida for that acting gig but it ended up just being some sort of informercial scam, and I just couldn't remember all that Spanish!! But it's okay. They fired me and I got to hang out with the rest of the crew on the beach before they drove me to the airport. This time was different. This time was kind of boring to be honest. I didn't get to do much. I did record some of the hot heat that was thick like molasses but I'm not going to feature that on this episode. This episode just rolled out of me. I was like one of those bowling ball return chutes. I started clunking and clanking and the next thing you know I spit a giant bowling ball out of my mouth. And then you stuck your hands in the finger holes!! Gross!!!!! But it's not gross. I'm just messing with you. I was actually just going to continue typing until the episode was totally uploaded. You know, a sort of "stream of conciousness" thing? But this fucking internet connection is so slow!! What the fuck? And I just had the cable guy here a few weeks ago to replace the box and for about 3 minutes it was working like a charm but I guess we're back to the old shitty internet service. What can I do? I guess I could call and compl- OOH look!! The episode is done uploading. Phew. I was really going to have to start treading in some dangerous territory if it didn't wrap up soon. But good good. We're all set. Enjoy the episode!!Support the showhunchbunny.com

Strange Ranger - "She's On Fire" from the 2023 album Pure Music from Fire Talk. New York-via-Philly-via Portland quartet Strange Ranger are have been making genre-bending indie rock since 2016, when they were just the duo of Isaac Eiger and Fred Nixon and went under the name Sioux Falls. A lot's changed for them besides relocation. On their upcoming album Pure Music, due out July 21st via Fire Talk, they're leaning heavier into the shoegaze-inspired sounds they dabbled with on their 2021 mixtape No Light In Heaven. Our Song of the Day “She's On Fire” proves this evolution was a wise one. Wistful ‘80s synths set the dreamscape while hard-hitting drums keep us tethered to the ground throughout the percussive track. Swirls of sound bring constantly unfolding dynamics, giving listeners something new to gleam from the track with each repeated listen. “And I could die in pure music /Ringing from the sky, I won't refuse it,” bellows Eiger with backing vocals from co-vocalist and synth player Fiona Woodman. “Just let me slip away, yeah /Tonight (tonight) it all goes live /No more solutions.” “When you're young, it feels like life has a kind of arc to it and up ahead in the future, there's some point where all your experiences converge and this fog of confusion will lift and you will have arrived,” says Eiger of “She's On Fire.” “This is definitely not true and increasingly, music is the steadying hand I lean on when looking for meaning. It provides a spiritualism that feels absent from much of life and I want to be as close to that feeling as possible.” Watch the video for “She's On Fire" and read the full post at KEXP.org.Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for April 21, 2023 is: wistful WIST-ful adjective To be wistful is to be full of or to inspire yearning or desire tinged with melancholy. Wistful can also mean “suggestive of sad thoughtfulness.” // As the car pulled away, Lea cast one last wistful glance at the house where she'd spent so many happy years. See the entry > Examples: “Josh Tillman, better known by stage name Father John Misty, dives headlong into big-band jazz on his sumptuous and melancholy fifth album [Chloë and the Next 20th Century]. With honeyed vocals and a potent dose of gallows humor, the shape-shifting crooner is reborn as a Sinatra-style lounge act, weaving wistful tales of heartache and tragedy over lush orchestrations.” — Patrick Ryan, USA Today, 30 Dec. 2022 Did you know? We see you there, dear reader, gazing silently up at the moon, heart aching to know the history of wistful, as if it could be divined on the lunar surface. And we'd like to ease your melancholy by telling you that the knowledge you seek—nay, pine for—is closer at hand. But the etymology of wistful, while intriguing, is not entirely clear. It's thought that the word is a combination of wistly, a now-obsolete word meaning “intently” and, perhaps, the similar-sounding wishful. Wistly, in turn, may have come from whistly, an old term meaning “silently” or “quietly.” What's more certain is that our modern wistful is a great word to describe someone full of pensive yearning, or something inspiring such yearning.

As we leave the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness and plunge headlong into the seasons of frozen toes and unceasing rain, there aren't many good wistful staring days left in the calendar. But not to worry, because The Electronic Wireless Show podcast has collected some of the best games for having a virtual stare, so you can do it from the comfort of your own home. This does necessitate us defining wistful first, although honestly I think I nail it out of the gate. Nate also provides this week's Cavern Of Lies mini-game, and a) he nearly beats me but b) he'd never heard of Thomas Was Alone, which is pretty funny.

We return to the book "Meaningness" for the conclusion of the Eternalism chapter. I delayed this episode until now in case David Chapman wrote more, or revised them, and no longer considered them unfinished. It's worthwhile just as it is, and I have formatted all these short pages as if they were sections in one page. Eternalist Ploys: Ploys—ways of thinking, feeling, talking, and acting—which stabilize eternalism; and antidotes to use against them. https://meaningness.com/eternalist-ploys Imposing fixed meanings: Forcing fixed meanings on experience always eventually results in unpleasant shocks when reality refuses to conform to your pre-determined categories. https://meaningness.com/imposing-fixed-meanings Smearing meaning all over everything: Monist eternalism—the New Age and SBNR, for example—say everything is meaningful, but leaves vague what the meanings are. https://meaningness.com/smearing-meaning Magical thinking: Hallucinating causal connections is powerfully synergistic with eternalism. https://meaningness.com/magical-thinking Hope: Hope is harmful in devaluing the present and shifting attention to imaginary futures that may never exist. https://meaningness.com/hope Pretending: Eternalist religions and political systems are always partly make-believe, like children playing at being pirates. https://meaningness.com/pretending Colluding for eternalism: Because eternalist delusion is so desirable, we collude to maintain it. To save each other from nihilism, we support each other in not-seeing nebulosity. https://meaningness.com/collusion Hiding from nebulosity: Physically avoiding ambiguous situations and information. https://meaningness.com/hiding-from-nebulosity Kitsch and naïveté: The denial of the possibility of meaninglessness leads to willfully idiotic sentimentality. https://meaningness.com/kitsch Armed & armored eternalism: When nebulosity becomes obvious, eternalism fails to fit reality. You can armor yourself against evidence, and arm yourself to destroy it. https://meaningness.com/armed-eternalism Faith: Privileging faith over experience is an eternalist ploy for blinding yourself to signs of nebulosity. https://meaningness.com/faith Thought suppression: Maintaining faith in non-existent meanings. It leads to deliberate stupidity, inability to express oneself, and inaction. https://meaningness.com/thought-suppression Bargaining and recommitment: When eternalism lets you down, you are tempted to make a bargain with it. The other morning, I was deep in thought about the sadness of nostalgia I had recently experienced. Nostalgia had overtaken me numerous times in the past year, and I wonder if there's a tipping point in one's life that's related to getting older. Is nostalgia somehow related to wisdom and a greater critical mass of life experience, and thus memory? Perhaps the COVID-19 lockdowns have something to do with it. With less social activity and other distractions, I've had more time to think about better times—so to speak. In this episode I share,My experiences of nostalgia.Where the meaning of nostalgia comes from (and how it used to be considered an affliction). What are the insights, self-awareness, wisdom, and experience of gratitude that you can gain from moments of nostalgia? What to do if you feel regret, as I sometimes do, in my trips down memory lane.Read the post on The Ascent on Medium. Are you enjoying the Think Queerly Podcast? If yes, would you take a few seconds to give me a 5-star rating or leaving me a review on Apple Podcasts?
