Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, also known as the “King of the Cowboys” and “Queen of the West”, were household names throughout most of the second half of the 20th century. Following several failed marriages each, they married in 1947 and remained married for over 50 years until Roy's passing in 1998. During their successful careers, the couple starred in numerous western films, often alongside Roy's famous horse “Trigger”. They appeared on many television variety shows including one they hosted themselves. They also entertained their fans at many live events such as rodeos and parades & were often heard singing a song written by Dale, called “Happy Trails”. In this episode of Your History Your Story, we will be speaking with Julie Rogers Pomilia, the granddaughter of Roy and Dale. Julie will be speaking about her recently released book, “Your Heroes, My Grandparents, a Granddaughter's Love”. She will share stories about growing up in the Rogers family and how, despite a series of family challenges and tragedies, Roy & Dale were able to consistently foster an atmosphere of love, fun and faith. Julie Rogers Pomilia is the granddaughter of the iconic and legendary Western movie and TV stars, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. In her groundbreaking book, "Your Heroes, My Grandparents," Julie offers a unique and personal perspective on the lives of her famous grandparents, who were known as the "Royal Western Couple." Growing up during the peak of their popularity in the 1950s and 1960s, Julie witnessed firsthand the love and acceptance her grandparents embodied as they adopted five children from different backgrounds and cultures. As the youngest daughter of Dale Evans' only biological son, Julie shares heartfelt stories about living with her famous grandparents and how they embraced the concept of a blended family. In a time when the idea of adoption was not widely discussed, Roy and Dale stood out as trailblazers, creating a diverse and loving household. Their brood of children, often seen in matching Western outfits, became a symbol of their unconventional but inclusive family.Throughout the book, Julie delves into various topics and anecdotes, shedding light on the challenges and pressures her grandparents faced in the entertainment industry. She recounts how Hollywood demanded a facade of perfection, revealing the lengths her grandfather went to meet the industry's standards, including using eyedrops to enhance his appearance. Despite the demands, Roy and Dale always made time for their family, prioritizing birthdays, school plays, and special events. They showed that family was everything, regardless of their fame and commitments.Julie also uncovers the lesser-known aspects of her grandmother's life, sharing Dale's difficult journey to fame, which included early marriages, divorces, and intense struggles. But Dale's indomitable spirit and perseverance led her to become an iconic figure in her own right. Meanwhile, Julie recalls her own realization of her grandparents' fame when she saw her grandpa's photo on the cover of a Weekly Scholastic Reader in second grade, assuming it was a normal occurrence for everyone. The book highlights the genuine and unassuming nature of Roy and Dale. Julie reveals how her grandma, the songwriter behind "Happy Trails," never made a big deal out of her accomplishments, and her grandpa, a bashful country boy, was hard to truly know. But their ordinary lives were filled with extraordinary experiences and an unbreakable bond that endured through personal tragedies, including the loss of three of their own children.Julie shares delightful stories of the family's occasional appearances on television, from Billy Graham Crusades to salad dressing commercials and the Jonathan Winters Christmas Show. Each chapter presents a stand-alone story, offering readers an intimate, humorous, and tender glimpse into the lives of these beloved American heroes."Your Heroes, My Grandparents" is a captivating memoir that transports readers through Julie Rogers Pomilia's cherished memories, spanning from her earliest recollections to the time of her grandparents' passing. With warmth and positivity, Julie invites readers to connect with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, demonstrating why they remain iconic figures who left an indelible mark on American history. Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Roy Rogers & Dale Evans' Granddaughter, Julie Rogers Pomilia, Author, “Your Heroes My Grandparents” About Harvey's guest: Today's guest, Julie Rogers Pomilia, is the granddaughter of one of the most beloved couples in the history of show business – the King and Queen of the Westerns, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. They co-starred in 88 movies. They had a radio show for 9 years, and starting in the 50's, they were on TV almost continuously, starting with the Roy Rogers Show, the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Show, Happy Trails Theatre, and they appeared in dozens of variety and talk shows and award shows throughout their lives. They recorded over 400 songs and sold millions of records. Roy Rogers was the #1 Western box office star for 11 years in a row, from 1943 to 1954. He has FOUR stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for his contribution to TV, radio, music and the movies. And he's the only performer to have been inducted TWICE into the Country Music Hall of Fame, once as part of the Sons of the Pioneers, and the 2nd time as an individual performer. He was so incredibly popular back in the 50s and 60s, that there were over 400 toys and merchandising items with Roy Rogers' name on them. There was even a chain of Roy Rogers Restaurants. And Dale Evans was an immensely successful star in her own right. She wrote their iconic theme song, “Happy Trails”, which was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008, and was named one of the top 100 western songs of all time by the Western Writers of America. And get this: Dale Evans also wrote the classic Sunday School song, “The Bible Tells Me So”. She also wrote 29 books, including her mega-best seller, “Angel Unaware”, inspired by their child Robin, who was born with Down Syndrome, and who died 2 days before her 2nd birthday. Dale Evans has 2 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for her work in movies and on television. Although WE knew Roy Rogers and Dale Evans as the King and Queen of the Westerns, our guest knew them as simply, Grandma and Grandpa. She's just released a wonderful, heartwarming book entitled, “Your Heroes, My Grandparents: A Granddaughter's Love.” The book gives us an intimate look at who Roy Rogers and Dale Evans really were, not only as superstars, but especially as devoted partners, parents of 9 children, and grandparents of 16 children. Our guest is an elementary school teacher who's spent the last 20 years travelling across the country, to western festivals, fairs and rodeos, to sing, tell stories, sit on panels, ride in parades, and meet with fans to honour and celebrate the legacy of her beloved grandparents and keep their memory alive. She and her 2 sisters sang and performed around the country in a group called “The Rogers Legacy”, and she co-hosted a popular radio show called “Around the Barn”. And she and her husband Gino run the Gino Pomilia Baseball Camp every summer in Larkspur, California. And for many years she's ridden horseback in the Pasadena Rose Parade on New Year's Day. Author: Julie Rogers Pomillia, Granddaughter of legendary film stars, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. Book: Your Heros / My Grandparents / A Granddaughters Love Your Heroes, My Grandparents is filled with an abundance of candid pictures, many of them never seen by the public. Your Heroes, My Grandparents, by Julie Rogers Pomilia is a charming read, and the first book ever to chronicle the lives of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, one of the most famous couples in western film and television history from the distinctive perspective of their grandchild. We knew them as our heroes, but she knew them as simply, Grandma and Grandpa. Having lived through the '50s and '60s at the height of their popularity, and on into these current times when few people under the age of 50 remember who they were and the impact they had on American culture, the author shares unique insights about what it was like living with her famous grandparents. Still relatable, these heartwarming experiences transcend time and generational differences. More at: https://www.wideopencountry.com/dale-evans-roy-rogers/ Learn more about your ad choices. They were the King and Queen of TV westerns but this week's guest called them, Grandma and Grandpa.Julie Rogers Pomilia's father Tom was Dale Evans' son. Roy and Dale were warm and attentive grandparents and Julie had the run of the Double R Bar Ranch as her backyard. In her book, Your Heroes, My Grandparents: A Granddaughter's Love, Julie details cherished memories spent with Roy, Dale, a gaggle of sisters and cousins and Trigger. Her idilic, special scrapbook moments are filled with birthdays, Christmases and recitals and they are seasoned with Hollywood events, backstage explorations, movie sets and TV appearances. Then there's the time her second grade teacher asked her if she could identify the cowboy on the cover of her Weekly Reader. Julie said, “That's my grandpa,” and went home to ask her mom why Grandpa is famous.Julie grew up singing with her sisters and parents, sometimes backing up her grandparents at shows, parades and rodeos. Iconic show biz figures were in and out of the ranch but mostly, Grandpa hung with Clark Gable because they shared hobbies and Nudie Cohn because he designed Grandma and Grandpa's cosutmes.Julie shares her most precious memories of riding on the back of Grandpa's motorcycle and gunning it back and forth across an empty air strip, pheasant hunting… not because she likes it but because she loved making memories with Grandpa, traveling to Scotland with Grandma who made every adventure an event and the true story of Dale Evans' heartbreaking journey towards stardom which required her to keep her son Tom a secret. Also, whatever did happen to Trigger? Is he stuffed or mounted and/or living forever in our hearts? How did Roy and Dale jump start the merchandising industry? And so much more. Brian and Lee talk with the Julie Rogers Pomilia, granddaughter of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. Pomilia talks about her book “Your Heroes, My Grandparents”, originally written for her three sons. The post The Brian and Lee Show: Interview with Julie Rogers Pomilia appeared first on WWDB-AM.
Julie Rogers Pomilia is the granddaughter of one of the most famous couples in Western film & TV history, the legendary Western Movie & TV Stars Roy Rogers & Dale Evans . They were the Brad & Angelina of the 50's having adopted 5 out of their 9 children who were often photographed all lined up in little matching western outfits. (OMG I used to dress up just like that when I was a little kid.) Julie is the youngest daughter of Dale Evans' only biological son. She first realized her grandparents were famous when Grandpas' photo was on the cover of Weekly Scholastic in 2nd grade. LOL Julie was in her dorm room in college when she first heard the infamous song ‘Happy Trails' on the radio and heard the announcer say Dale Evan's wrote the song . She had no clue. She called up her Grandma and and said, “Really Grandma? You wrote that song? No one in this family tells me anything” Lol Some good inspiartional lyrics in the song Happy Trails. "Some trails are happy ones, Others are blue. It's the way you ride the trail that counts!" Famous as the couple was, Julie remembers family was everything to them and though they could be sleeping over at the White House one weekend they'd be on the floor playing Old Maid with the kids the next . But Julie shared, there was as much tragedy in the family as there was joy, as the couple lost three children along the way. Roy Rogers & Dale Evans were second only to Walt Disney in their merchandising in the late 40's and 50's with over 400 items with their names and likeness. They actually didn't not make a lot of money from their movies back then because that's just how it was, so they had to make their money through products. As for ‘Trigger' Roy's' famous horse, he lived to be 30 years old and yes it's true after he passed he was stuffed and mounted at the Roy Rogers and Dale Evan's Museum. His hide was stitched over a foam mold and he was placed in his signature rearing move. Meet the lovely Julie Rogers Pomilia on this podcast of our live conversation on The Debbie Nigro Show. Her new book “Your Heroes, My Grandparents” is just out.

Our heroes have run out of time for planning and investigation as the arrival of a demonic abomination threatens the attendees of the county faire. While the Folk carnies work to evacuate everyone safely, the hunters rush towards battle. However, some unlucky dice rolls paired with some tragically timed character development put our heroes in dire straights and in desperate need of some backup. Success & business coach Dijana Llugolli helps female entrepreneurs unlock their potential so they can focus on giving their best and outsourcing the rest. To be more without doing more. And when she's not coaching and teaching, Dijana interviews fearless people around the world. This episode has a lot of laughs, and you'll hear Dijana's story of something that recently pushed her out of her comfort zone. (Hint, hint… it involves connecting with one of her heroes.) It's really enjoying the little things…” Your Heroes are HumanSo, why not reach for the stars? As Dijana says… “It's not about you. It's about the people you serve, right? Why should I even have this mindset that presidents, top elite performers are not available? Of course they are. If I just don't think about myself but focus on how can I actually bring all these amazing minds together. They can work in a team. They can be the change for everyone. That's the ripple effect, right? That's pretty amazing”. Listen to the full episode for more tips! Happy New Year to all of our Sidekicks. This week we lost another Hero so Kitana is back filling in for Dilly this time. I think she is testing out all of the mics to see which one suits her best. Your Heroes have a bit of a theme this week as they review Cobra Kai and recast Karate Kid in your favorite segment Casting Couch. Kitana gives you a 90's flashback, and WHATson writes in. Enjoy.
This week is a jam-packed episode. Your Heroes do a flashback to Episode#7, the infancy of HH, before Dill and Cheese, when there was no theme song but a whole lot of Sprinkles. Strap in for a super hero theme Top 5, nerd news, and Sidekick mail. It's a long one but a good one.
Your Heroes finally get someone good on their live stream.....CardiB, aka Mad Cardigan, aka Bird Is The Word! Thanks to Bird the show still went off the rails. This episode has it all, trivia, news, Dilly's Gaming Corner, Sidekick mail, and Buddy's "beard". Go to Hardly Heroes on YouTube to see the video.
Your Heroes are pushing on, finding new ways to connect with the nerdy world, but like everyone else, they are wondering.....Is This Over Yet?? Quarantine has affect everyone differently....Buddy and Dilly have found even more ways to exclude Cheese, Phil B continues to drink Bourbon, and Cheese is just sewing her worries away.
Your Heroes are still under state ordered quarantine, and honestly I don't think they are getting any better at this live streaming, well at least Cheese isn't! They start a new segment Let's Get Real.....Quick, Phil B comes correct with the news, and they announce QUARANCON 2, this Saturday April 4th at 10am. Facebook.com/quarancon. This one is a long one so strap in, or go to Hardly Heroes on Facebook or Youtube to see the video. Be Well.
Neil Peart, drummer from Rush and maybe the best rock drummer of all time, recently passed away at the age of 67. As we get older and our childhood heroes begin to pass on, we begin to realize how precious life really is. Hopefully we can take the opportunity to savor the interactions we have with those still with us. Today’s discussion looks to put some perspective around this issue. … The post #1053 Saying Goodbye to Your Heroes appeared first on Joel Brookman.

Luis Congdon Network with Your Heroes Before Luis Congdon Network with Your Heroes discovered his passion for podcasting, he worked for a large research group teaching and educating married couples at or below the poverty line with children. He focused on what makes a marriage successful using prior research from the University of Washington. Luis looked at how that education affected the parents and how it trickled down to impoverished children. Luis loved the job and all of the families he worked with. After 2.5 years his dream job ended. He struggled to find something as fulfilling and avoid the 9 to 5 grind. Share on Twitter He decided to take the crazy leap into entrepreneurship with no background in business. His only prior business experience was selling products through a magazine for points to purchase things like video games. Luis Congdon decided to sell relationship coaching. He was not very successful and he was just getting by in Seattle. He had a conversation with a woman and she said to start a podcast and interview celebrities in his niche. Luis admits he didn't know the first thing about podcasting but a light had gone off. He went home and started contacting renowned therapists and doctors that had been on Oprah and Dr. Phil. These were all the big names in his niche. His email campaign was not successful so Luis did what he always does and looked for what he was missing or not doing. It's Luis's belief that if what you want is not happening it's because your mindset is off or you're not doing something right. Two things you can change and change the result. Luis looked at his email letter closer to see what was missing. he crafted a new letter to Dr.'s Hendrix that had been on Oprah 5 times. In that letter and subsequent ones, he changed his message to reflect how those he was contacting had affected him and what it meant to him. Luis received overwhelming yes responses. Funny thing here, Luis did not have a podcast or website or social media yet! He didn't even know what a podcast was. He quickly googled how to record a Skype call and recorded his first show. Luis went through the process from editing to the final product and now podcasting is his full-time occupation. Luis Congdon on Kharma In western culture we interpret that to mean what goes around comes back around. In Buddhism it means a footprint. Luis was born in Medellin, Colombia in the dark times. His mom was a drug addict and his dad left when he was born. His mother was murdered when he was 5 and he was homeless for several years until being adopted into the US. His US parents would divorce but they were still amazing parents. Through his work with couples, Luis realizes that sometimes divorce is the right thing to do and he thinks it was for his parents. He has had a lot of demons to work through from the footprints of his childhood. Number One Entrepreneurial Tip If you are getting asked something repeatedly: It means people think you are an expert in it; it means there is a market for it, and; You don't always have to answer the question, you can create a product to serve more people and solve their problem.
