This podcast has been responsible for some remarkable business opportunities since I started it in 2014. But many people notice that I'm not selling ads and sponsorships or making direct offers so they wonder how I'm monetizing it.The fact that this show, without direct monetization has produced over a half million dollars in profits in the past few years surprises many people because they can't understand how it makes money.Today I'm going to explain a bit more about how that works and I've brought on guest Luis Congdon from Thriving Launch podcast to help discuss other unique ways to monetize a podcast besides the well-known methods of sponsorships or direct sales of products.Luis is an accomplished podcaster, course creator and digital marketing expert and his show has changed his life in more ways than one.Listen in closely especially if you've ever considered creating a show but have been on the fence or if you haven't considered it but you're open to having your mind changed.Additional links featured in this episode include:Thriving LaunchBrad's Digital Marketer Guest Post on Instant ROI from PodcastingFive Star Freedom SystemAnd if you have any questions for Brad OR would like to discuss how to launch your own podcast specifically for B2B lead generation, send an email to askbrad@baconwrappedbusiness.com and ask for information about this.

A mental health speaker just got real about his own mental health. Only 5% of people with chronic health conditions practice self-care says Mike Veny. “So statistically that’s zero. Basically, it’s a nonsense term that we throw around telling each other to do, but nobody’s doing it.” Mental Health is a Journey Highlights from the interview: Mike is America’s leading mental health speaker and a corporate drumming facilitator. Drumming helped him overcome his mental health challenges. Mike started his mental health journey when he was young. They manifested as behavior problems. He was the poster child for mental health issues: hospitalized three times, kicked out of three schools, attempted suicide at age 10, and was violent at home. He is still working on his mental health issues. It’s become more manageable. He doesn’t self-harm anymore, but he does have to manage his thinking. He still struggles with depression, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. He had a breakdown and was hospitalized early in 2017. One of the most powerful skills one can learn is to just sit with your feelings, and to admit that you are powerless over your emotions. That has been incredibly humbling and insightful. Mental health is a process, not a destination. Mental health issues are confusing and frustrating for everyone. He just wanted a solution as a kid and as an adult. He has to make the decision to be mentally healthy every day. Part of that includes 30 minutes of journaling. Sometimes he doesn’t want to do that because he knows how painful his thoughts were that day and he’d rather get a drink at the bar. But he promises to show up for himself, so he journals. In this segment, I let you peek into my journal as I share my thoughts on a topic or resilience resource. One of the things that Mike recommended as a first step for anyone with tough issues is to talk about it. In fact, this interview has been one of my favorites because Mike himself was unafraid to talk about his suicide attempts and his struggles. We often find ourselves in a culture of secrecy. Just think about how many women spoke up in 2017 about sexual harassment and who kept those secrets for sometimes decades. And think about the women who are still not speaking up because they are afraid. I get it, I’ve kept secrets I shouldn’t have too. In fact, most of my life I never spoke up for myself, until I was in my 40’s. Writing my stories helped me to get clear about them and to share them with others. Listen, you should never suffer alone. Others may share your thoughts and opinions, or even have similar issues, but may be also unwilling to speak up. By speaking your truth and sharing your stories, you encourage them to voice their opinions as well. I can teach you how to share your story in my upcoming free webinar 4 Simple, Proven Methods to Writing the First Chapter of Your Life Story in Just 7 days. Luis’ thoughts on having an online business Took a long time to become okay with accepting payment Through deep reflection of the value he provides, he can internally accept what he charges for an hourly rate Recants on how it can be difficult sometimes to find that balance of generosity We have to learn to be okay with what we desire (in his case income from an online business) “Learn how to take care of yourself as an entrepreneur” Thoughts on life Why we need coaching/mentorship: “There are so many things we don’t know that we don’t know” At birth: we are safe and 100% provided for After birth: We begin the universal journey of learning to obtain what we want in life through tears, demands, & fighting. We learn “no” Everything is the highest order (i.e. our physical relationships and our spiritual relationships) Happiness is magnified when we can share it with someone Soul Food God gives regardless. “Be like God” – Dr. Wayne Dyer “Does the sun ever say to the flowers you owe me?” – Hafiz (Imagine what a love like that could do for the world) “Love is how we feel about ourselves and how we relate to ourselves” – Don Miguel Ruiz “Everything is energy” – Albert Einstein Luis believes we add our own meaning to the world Gratitude “Every time we take a breath, that’s the last time we breathe that breath in that moment” Book recommendation The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
Todays guest on the Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a fellow podcaster who has a great mission in life. He is a man who is an expert in helping couples find the spark in their once vibrant relationships. He helps build bridges where there are chasms to cross. He inspires conversation where there is simply silence. And he encourages bedroom passions, where there are just snores and sleeping. But if this sounds like a man who has lived a life of perfect relationships and harmonious connections then think again. As he says “Early in life, I learned about the heartache that comes when love doesn't work. Coming into this world, I was fatherless, and the youngest of three. Life in Medellin, Colombia wasn't easy. My Mother was 25 years old, addicted to cocaine, and didn't have any interest in taking care of her three kids. When I was five years old my Mother was murdered. I was homeless for three years until I was finally adopted. My life was transformed! I had a Mother, Father, and was surrounded by a loving family in America. Soon after though, my adopted parents divorced. I was left confused and feeling like I couldn't rely on love. I made up my mind that love doesn't last and turned to spirituality for the connection I was seeking. For nearly a decade, I devoted my life to becoming a monk. My path into spirituality taught me a great deal—But no matter how much I learned there was something missing. That all changed when I met my first love. With her I found what I was searching for. I found someone I could be completely authentic and open with and someone who could see all of me. Falling in love was one of the most amazing experiences. It was much more than any meditation or spiritual experience could offer. Then she broke my heart and left.” So he has had some serious moments in his life, which could have left him saying “Why me?….What's the point in loving?” But instead he has been left with “How can I help you?” Well let's bring onto the show to start joining up dots, as we discuss the words of Steve Jobs in todays Free podcast, with the one and only Luis Congdon. Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics as: How he now feels that there is no such thing that can fall into the camp of impossible, and its simply up to him to find the way to achieve his dreams. How he loves that he can now surround himself with the movers and shakers of the world and is surprised by the skill he has for networking. How he had one really bad night with his peer group, which affected him to such a degree that his life was never going to be the same again. How he is very aware of trying to learn from the people who have developed their zone of genius by researching the work ethic that got them to where they want to be. And lastly…….. How Richard Branson has mastered the ability of separating himself from the processes that most entrepreneurs get caught up with, and brings his true value to the table everyday.
Today's article comes from Luis Congdon and is titled "How Video Games Are Helping Young Veterans Cope". Specialist Rob Gibson talks about how video games allow him to switch off his symptoms, and how nothing else except sleep (which he isn't having much of) allows him to do that right now. Also in this episode I talk about the Virtual Reality Exposure Treatment (VRET) that was developed by Skip Rizzo which allows a patient to be more immersed over classic pschoherapy. Here is the article: http://www.complex.com/life/2016/11/veterans-day-millennials-video-games-ptsd

Luis Congdon admits that he's not the most technical guy on the planet, but he's been through several audio setups so we learned from his production evolution. He hosts the Lasting Love Connection podcast, and the Thriving Launch podcast. His audio setup includes a Scarlett 2i2 audio interface and MXL microphones. He and his co-host record in the same room, so we talked about how he optimizes that sound. These days he records into Logic Pro. Previously he tried recording with Ecamm recorder, Garage Band, and Adobe Audition, but he wasn't satisfied with any of them. He uses a Blue Yeti when he travels and he started the Podcasters Exchange Facebook group! Thanks Luis! Luis Congdon Network with Your Heroes Before Luis Congdon Network with Your Heroes discovered his passion for podcasting, he worked for a large research group teaching and educating married couples at or below the poverty line with children. He focused on what makes a marriage successful using prior research from the University of Washington. Luis looked at how that education affected the parents and how it trickled down to impoverished children. Luis loved the job and all of the families he worked with. After 2.5 years his dream job ended. He struggled to find something as fulfilling and avoid the 9 to 5 grind. Share on Twitter He decided to take the crazy leap into entrepreneurship with no background in business. His only prior business experience was selling products through a magazine for points to purchase things like video games. Luis Congdon decided to sell relationship coaching. He was not very successful and he was just getting by in Seattle. He had a conversation with a woman and she said to start a podcast and interview celebrities in his niche. Luis admits he didn't know the first thing about podcasting but a light had gone off. He went home and started contacting renowned therapists and doctors that had been on Oprah and Dr. Phil. These were all the big names in his niche. His email campaign was not successful so Luis did what he always does and looked for what he was missing or not doing. It's Luis's belief that if what you want is not happening it's because your mindset is off or you're not doing something right. Two things you can change and change the result. Luis looked at his email letter closer to see what was missing. he crafted a new letter to Dr.'s Hendrix that had been on Oprah 5 times. In that letter and subsequent ones, he changed his message to reflect how those he was contacting had affected him and what it meant to him. Luis received overwhelming yes responses. Funny thing here, Luis did not have a podcast or website or social media yet! He didn't even know what a podcast was. He quickly googled how to record a Skype call and recorded his first show. Luis went through the process from editing to the final product and now podcasting is his full-time occupation. Luis Congdon on Kharma In western culture we interpret that to mean what goes around comes back around. In Buddhism it means a footprint. Luis was born in Medellin, Colombia in the dark times. His mom was a drug addict and his dad left when he was born. His mother was murdered when he was 5 and he was homeless for several years until being adopted into the US. His US parents would divorce but they were still amazing parents. Through his work with couples, Luis realizes that sometimes divorce is the right thing to do and he thinks it was for his parents. He has had a lot of demons to work through from the footprints of his childhood. Number One Entrepreneurial Tip If you are getting asked something repeatedly: It means people think you are an expert in it; it means there is a market for it, and; You don't always have to answer the question, you can create a product to serve more people and solve their problem. A few years ago Luis slept in his car during the cold months of October and November. Unable to hold jobs he was very down and out... He had to change. He quit applying to jobs and started his own online business. In a short period of ten months he has come from no online business experience to earning over $10k a month, all primarily through podcasting, a podcast FB group of 600+ podcasters, and sponsorships from renowned brands. His story of being homeless as a young child in a 3rd world country…being adopted, parents divorcing once he was adopted, returning to Medellin, Colombia when he was 18 years old and meeting most of my biological for the first time is one of pure HUSTLE! This is the story of an immigrant success story who has mastered the game of hustle! Here's a link to his podcast group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/podcastexchange/. Now enjoy the episode! Influence with Brad Harker - Interviewing business leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
One of the most essential ingredients to influence and entrepreneurship is the ability to build rapport with your customers. While it is one thing to know where to find your customers, it's an entirely different thing to know how to build relationships that create value for them, and revenue for you. In this episode we discuss: How to convert a passion into a profitable business. How to find and build rapport with your target audience. The most commonly misunderstood truth about what customers actually want. How to make the transition from giving away free advice to becoming a highly-paid expert. Developing greater confidence in your business or expertise. Meet Luis Congdon My guest today is Luis Congdon. His unbelievable story begins in Columbia when, at the age of five, his mother was murdered leaving him both orphaned and homeless. At the age of eight, his life transformed as he was rescued by adoptive parents who brought him to the United States. By nature of the many struggles Luis faced with relationships, he gravitated towards the work of relationship experts, Dr.’s John and Julie Gottman. In addition to teaching their system, Luis was also a key player in one of the nation’s largest research projects looking into the components of successful marriage relationships. However, in spite such powerful experience, Luis struggled to find his niche, and again found himself homeless. While sleeping on friends couches, Luis discovered the power of online marketing and embraced a forum that would enable him to share his expertise with the world. Today, Luis is the host of Lasting Love Connection, a top rated iTunes podcast as well as thrivinglaunch.com. Luis is the creator of a powerful course for podcasters and owner of a popular Facebook podcast group. Luis went from sleeping on couches to making a six figure income via digital products, podcasting, Facebook and networking in only 10 months. Best of all, he is ready to teach you his secrets. Luis Congdon on Building Relationships, Connecting Digitally, and Creating Real Value A snippet from Luis’ website: My work comes out of a passion to help others avoid the pains I went through. When we lose love, it’s like a part of us dies—and that pain can cut deeper than any wound. When we have unhealthy patterns in our relationship, it’s as if we’ve put a kink in our ability to tap fully into the love available. That’s why I do this—to help couples, their kids, and everyone who is impacted when love doesn’t seem like it’s enough. It’s my speciality to help couples end negative cycles, and find new ones that work. Love can be simple. It just takes the right insights, coaching, and methods to avoid the pitfalls that come with being in a relationship. How does love transfer into a business sense? Businesses are about building relationships. There is an exchange between two people, building a relationship between one another that is sustainable and has longevity. “My net worth is in my network.” Blogs vs. Podcasts Blogs can be an effective medium for networking, but they’re lacking one thing: connection. Podcasts make it easy to forge a personal connection with your guest. When you interview someone, you’re able to ask questions, chat back and forth, and get personal with your guest. And as a bonus, when you ask someone to be on your podcast, it makes it extremely easy for them. All they have to do is talk, and you do the rest. Just how do you make money podcasting? Todays guest on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots is a fellow podcaster who has a great mission in life. He is a man who is becoming an expert in helping couples find the spark in their once vibrant relationships. He helps build bridges where there are chasms to cross. He inspires conversation where there is simply silence. And he encourages bedroom passions, where there are just snores and sleeping. But if this sounds like a man who has lived a life of perfect relationships and harmonious connections leading towards the perfect career then think again. As he says "Early in life, I learned about the heartache that comes when love doesn't work. Then she broke my heart and left." So he has had some serious moments in his ife, which could have left him saying "Why me?....Whats the point in loving?" But instead he has been left with "How can I help you?" which is allowing him to gain more and more success and of course time freedom Well let's bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only solopreneur himself. The health expert Luis Congdon.
