The Sacred Name and Hebrew Roots Movements aren't the most oft discussed aspects of faith. Peaking somewhere between the 1960s and 1980s through the Worldwide Church of God, these movements largely retreated to small scattered groups in diverse locations. With the rise of the internet, many of their ideas are well-circulated and debated through social media. Join Apostle Dr. Lee Ann Marino for a look at these two movements that both overlap while containing their unique contents, why we should recognize them, and whether or not it matters if we call on the name of God in Hebrew. Jerald Walker grew up in the predominantly white, Worldwide Church of God – a doomsday cult that convinced its followers the world would end in 1972. Raised by blind, African American parents and under the cult's strict teachings, which preached racial segregation and an imminent apocalypse, Jerald's life was dominated by fear, isolation, and the belief that his future didn't exist. When the promised doomsday never came, Jerald and his family were left grappling with shattered beliefs. As his life unravelled, Jerald fell into addiction and crime, struggling to escape the mental and emotional grip of the cult. But through education, an extraordinary teacher and a passion for writing, he found a path to redemption.Presenter: Asya Fouks Producer: Thomas Harding AssinderGet in touch: liveslessordinary@bbc.co.uk or WhatsApp: 0044 330 678 2784

I was a black child raised in a white supremacist cult. When doomsday didn't come, I had to learn how to live the Guardian, By Steve Rose, on September 10, 2024https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/article/2024/sep/10/i-was-black-child-raised-in-white-supremacist-cult-doomsday-didnt-come-learn-how-to-liveGerald Walker's story is one of resilience in the face of extreme ideological manipulation. Growing up in the Worldwide Church of God, a doomsday cult with white supremacist beliefs, Walker's childhood was filled with fear. From a young age, he was indoctrinated to believe the end of the world was imminent, but even more disturbingly, he and his family—being Black—had to navigate the church's deeply embedded racial hierarchy. Despite this, Walker's family believed they were chosen for salvation, even though their church saw them as inherently inferior. This paradox reveals the powerful grip such organizations hold on their members, using fear and divine justification to maintain control. When the church's predictions of an impending apocalypse failed to materialize, Walker's world began to unravel, forcing him to question everything he had been taught. The story sheds light on the complexities of identity, particularly how race and religion intersect in environments steeped in white supremacy. Walker's family was segregated within their own church, with Black members relegated to separate spaces, not allowed to worship alongside white members. Disturbingly, the church's leader justified this segregation using Bible scripture, claiming that Black people were created to serve whites both on Earth and in heaven. This religious justification mirrored the same tactics used in the slave era when “slave Bibles” were doctored to omit passages about freedom and equality. Despite the blatant contradictions and racist doctrines, Walker's family remained loyal to the church—a testament to the power of indoctrination and the social pressures within such groups. The psychological manipulation within these environments is evident, as cult members often cling to their beliefs despite clear evidence to the contrary. As children, individuals are especially susceptible to believing what they are taught, no matter how harmful those teachings may be. The sense of belonging to a community, no matter how toxic, can also prevent people from leaving, as rejecting the group feels like rejecting their identity and their support system.Walker's journey from being trapped in this cult to finding his own voice as a writer is a story of courage and self-discovery. It reflects the challenges many people face when breaking away from authoritarian religious groups and highlights how deeply ingrained beliefs, especially those learned in childhood, can shape an individual's worldview. His story also forces a critical reflection on how religious institutions, particularly those steeped in racist ideologies, use fear, control, and manipulation to perpetuate harmful narratives. Ultimately, Walker's story is one of transformation, as he learns to rebuild his life, free from the fear and racism that once defined his existence. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.39.2 featuring Cynthia McDonald, Scott Dickie and AJBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

Let's have a light chat about cults with LaNisa Frederick. She's an award-winning actor, writer, content creator, voiceover artist and black survivor of Doomsday Cult, WorldWide Church of God. Let's get the lay of the land. What exactly is a cult? You might find isolation, charismatic leaders, financial arrest, and consequences for leaving, but LaNisa's experience and research say time and society are the judge. So anything can be a cult? These days, language is tricky, but there doesn't have to be an extreme and devastating end to make it a cult. I even had my eyes opened to the existence of a diet cult! Woah who knew Jesus said you had to be skinny? Speaking of the variety of cults out there, it's important to note that no one wants to join a cult. Vulnerabilities, life circumstances, and different origins contribute to everyone's story. Earlier today, NTEB'er Gregory Kyle posted a video to our site from a group called ‘Tomorrow's World' with a working title of ‘The Rapture Debunked In 3 Questions', asking if anyone had ever heard of these people before. So naturally I checked it out. The group is a ministry from the Living Church of God, an offshoot of the old Worldwide Church of God led by Herbert W. Armstrong who taught a mix of Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormonism, and British Israelism with a touch a Seventh Day Adventist thrown in for fun. These are the people telling you there is no Church Age Pretribulation Rapture, but it doesn't end there with the cults. There are plenty of mainstream Christian denominations who are trying to ‘debunk the Rapture' as well, so tonight we debunk them. On this episode of Rightly Dividing, someone is trying to steal your faith in one of the most-precious promises that God has for His children in the Church Age, the Pretribulation Rapture! But it's not just the cults who are doing this junk, more often than not the attacks, and that's exactly what they are, come from fellow Christians about whom Paul said “Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.” Amen. So tonight, we will take the entire 22-minute ‘Debunking The Rapture' video, answering every point they raise, rightly divided and dispensationally correct. And in doing so, give you the all the tools you need for the next time a fellow Christian comes alongside you looking to steal your ‘blessed hope'.

The New Church has many amazing truths, truths that we can be grateful to have found. They give us insight into life and inspire us to grow spiritually. But sometimes we get so caught up in having the truth that we lose sight of the purpose. But there is no point in having the truth if we don't live it; and one of the ways we live it is by sharing it with others. The truth of the New Church is a gift that has been freely given from the Lord; and it is incumbent on us to freely share it with others.

New Church Westville Weekly Sermon Podcast

The New Church teaches that all people of all faiths can be part of the Lord's kingdom if they look to the Divine and live a charitable life. The Lord does not limit Himself to one group or another. What then is the point of the New Church? Although the church extends to every corner of the globe, it is still worth striving to embody the Lord's New Church as a crucial part of that wider, universal church.

Where does evil come from? Why do paranormal forces affect us even if God is all powerful and always present? What does the Bible say about this and can extra-Biblical texts like the book of Enoch give Christians specific insight into these mysteries? In this episode of the Revelation Podcast, Chasity Jameson goes over her spiritual path — from forging a profound connection with God at the young age of five to walking a path to seek the truth[1] that has gone until today.  Chasity describes for us what it means to seek the truth of the Bible as it relates to angels, demons and giants — and how that can  give us an even deeper knowledge of the power of Christ! If you'd like to seek the truth for yourself, this episode is for you. Here are three reasons why you should listen to this episode:Discover how extra-biblical texts, like the Book of Enoch, can help you understand Scripture better.Learn how to seek the truth for yourself in a way that brings you closer to God.Understand the origins of evil in this world and how God's power is greater.Want to be part of what God is doing through the Revelations Podcast? Chasity didn't learn why while growing up.When Chasity was 13, the church's leadership changed. The new leader made sweeping changes, such as being allowed to eat bacon or celebrate holidays. These changes were faith-shattering for Chasity, leading her to find her own path and seek the truth. She wants others to go on a similar journey of truth-seeking for themselves.[07:55] How Chasity Found Jesus' SalvationChasity found Jesus at five years old.She had a dysfunctional family; fights were common, and she experienced the effects of domestic abuse. She used to hide in a closet during these fights — and that's how she knew she couldn't go it alone.Once, Chasity prayed to God in that closet and forged a deep, profound connection with Jesus.[11:27] Chasity's TestimonyChasity had a deep connection with God but started experiencing harmful paranormal experiences that she knew weren't divine in nature. She attributes this to a generational curse — her parents, grandparents, and ancestors all experienced similar things. The Church was no help because they always assumed that you did something pagan or unholy. Chasity claims she had done nothing to open a doorway to evil in her life.A woman prayed over her and spoke in tongues — but Chasity understood it. During this experience, her generational curse was broken.[19:31] Starting Ancient ConspiraciesChasity worked in ministry and met a friend with whom she would discuss Bible studies, podcasts, and conspiracy topics. They listened to a breakdown of the Book of Enoch, which gave her an answer to her questions surrounding the connection between evil and paranormal activity.Seeing so many different perspectives made Chasity think it would be fun to start a podcast around paranormal events throughout history.Chasity finds her topics on Ancient Conspiracies through her studies.[28:23] The Book of EnochThere are two Enochs in the Bible. The first is the son of Cain, while the other is descended from Seth — the godly lineage.Readers must be careful — Enoch, son of Cain, wrote very cultish knowledge, while Enoch, the descendant of Seth, was divine.Much of the book of Enoch references or is referenced by other passages in the Bible. The Book of Enoch covers much of the origins of evil in the world and the deep connections between human and angelic beings.[32:56] Working Against the FallenSeveral passages in the Bible and the Book of Enoch describe how fallen angels had spread their influence throughout the Earth. One of the most significant contradictions in the Bible is God's mercy versus the multiple genocidal actions God has taken. One hypothesis is that much of the world was already corrupted due to the influence of fallen angels and Nephilim.[41:07] Should We Trust the Book of Enoch? The physical writings of Enoch were destroyed, but what he wrote survived through oral tradition. The Essenes later compiled them along with the Dead Sea Scrolls. The Book of Enoch was later passed to the Ethiopian Church, which preserved it.Multiple writings indicate that ancient peoples may have considered the Book of Enoch canonical Scripture. It's important to remember that extra-Biblical texts provide additional perspective on the nature of God.About ChasityChasity is the owner and host of the Ancient Conspiracies podcast, where she goes over the connections between history, Biblical text, and extra-Biblical writing to uncover knowledge about the world that most may not know exists.Join her to seek the truth on her website.Enjoyed this Episode? If you did, subscribe and share it with your friends!Post a review and share it! Recorded September 28, 1992 in the Worldwide Church of God.  Many ask me about Ukrainian Sabbath-keepers that I visited for the first time in Transcarpathia in 1992.  This experience greatly widened my perspective on what God is doing with mankind.  When Christ returns, He will marry His bride.  Who is the Bride of Christ?   Are you part of the body and bride that Christ will marry?  This episode recounts my first impressions of many visits.  It's also a time warp going back more than 30 years to the Worldwide Church of God.  This was recorded when I was Assistant Director of Church Administration for the Worldwide Church of God in Pasadena, California. The USSR fell apart and formed 15 independent nations. One of those nations was Ukraine. When this happened, a remarkable development occurred in the world of faith which was a big surprise to us. We discovered that there were thousands of people who worshipped God in a manner similar to ours.  We found people who kept the Saturday Sabbath day, along with many other tenets of our faith that they drew out from the Bible itself.  It was a surprising revelation and revolution that we first found out about from a few of their immigrants to America in 1991.  I first met with their leader and a group of 13 other who settled in Port St. Lucie, Florida.  He told me an incredible story of faith and standing against the giants of oppression and atheism. The leader, Michael Palchey, also told me that I should go to Ukraine myself and meet some of these people. There were more than 3000 of them in Ukraine, 4000 in Romania and 3000 in Moldova. So indeed I did go to Ukraine in the fall of 1992 and want to share this adventure with you. This journey opened my eyes to a greater reality of God's working with people in this world.  Christ will return to this earth and will marry His bride (Ephesians 5)   But, WHO will that bride be?  Is it just us?   Is it more than us?  Who will be there and who will not? What follows is my report to a congregation in Pasadena, CA about this adventure, how it came to be and its implications.

Senate Republicans are too weak to fight against this bill because it would mean going against the establishment. This same weak attitude was evident in the Worldwide Church of God after Herbert W.
