Vypravěčka Emma popisuje své vyrůstání v Londýně s lehce asociální matkou, ale i své zážitky z univerzitního prostředí a uměleckých kruhů. Jádrem příběhu je pak jeji queer lovestory s fotografkou Alyonou Shevchenko. Intimní vztah ovšem brzy vystřídá chybění, když Alyona jednoho dne neznámo kam zmizí. Emma Kausc předkládá ambiciózní, intelektuální a stylisticky propracovanou meditaci nad stavem současného světa. To be clear, she was only representing her own views on the episode. Some key takeaways/thoughts from Alyona's point of view:?Controversial? People keep coming up with simple phrasing and a few sentences about where to focus in data mesh. But if you're headed in the right direction, data mesh will be hard, it's a big change. You might want things to be simple but simplistic answers aren't really going to lead to lasting, high-value change to the way your org does data. Be prepared to put in the effort to make mesh a success at your organization, not a few magic answers.!Controversial! Stop focusing so much on the data work as the point. It's a way to derive and deliver value but the data work isn't the value itself. Relatedly, ask what are the key decisions people need to make and what is currently preventing them from making those decisions. Those are likely to be your best use cases. When it comes to Zhamak's data mesh book, it needs to be used as a source of inspiration instead of trying to use it as a manual. Large concepts like data mesh cannot be copy/paste, they must be adapted to your organization. It's really important to understand your internal data flows. Many people inside organizations - especially the data people - think they know the way data flows across the organization, especially for key use cases. But when you dig in, they don't. Those are some key places to deeply investigate first to add value. On centralization versus decentralization, it's better to think of each decision as a slider rather than one or the other. You need to find your balances and also it's okay to take your time as you shift more towards decentralization for many aspects. Change management is best done incrementally. ?Controversial? A major misunderstanding of data mesh that some long-time data people have is that it is just sticking a better self-serve consumption...

On Sc-Fi Talk, I dive into the cinematic realm of altered realities with a special focus on the film "Altered Reality." I have the pleasure of talking to writer and co-producer Charles Agron, alongside actors Krista Dane King and Alyona Khmara. I explore the fascinating concept of time and the underlying theme of family, as envisioned by Charles, and brought to life through the complex characters of Oliver Cook, Alex Parker, and Caroline Cook. We'll hear from Charles about his inspirations for the movie, Alyona's portrayal of a strong yet composed Caroline, and Krista's take on playing a grounded, non-stereotypical villain. They'll share insights into the dynamics between their characters, especially the manipulative nature of Alex. We'll also discuss the importance of a supportive set atmosphere, celebrating director Don E. FauntLeRoy's inclusive approach to filmmaking. My guests will recount their experiences shooting in the welcoming state of Georgia and inside an enchanting historic mansion. Subscribe To Sci-Fi Talk Plus For Free Lifetime Access

However, prior to implementation, it is vital for development teams to grasp the potential pitfalls associated with incorporating privacy technology. They must also appreciate the significance of iterative processes and the necessity of collaborative efforts to ensure compliance.Furthermore, achieving the delicate equilibrium between privacy and utility is of paramount importance. Organizations must meticulously fine-tune privacy settings, tailoring them to suit specific use cases.Additionally, alongside this core evaluation criterion, considerations such as speed and computational efficiency may enter the equation, demanding expertise in privacy engineering for successful implementation at scale.Katharine Jarmul, the author of "Practical Data Privacy," spoke to Alyona Galyeva from PyLadies Amsterdam, during which she unveiled a slew of open-source libraries and practical examples for implementing privacy technology. Join us - JB Jones and Alain Simic - for a chat with the breathtakingly beautiful and talented Ukrainian-born Alyona Kiperman of Nomis Jewelry. We spend time talking business during wartime, success, and innovation in design, all while enjoying her wickedly dry sense of humor. Listen to this one, kittens; she's the next big thing in jewelry. Instagram Reels have become such a powerful business tool when it comes to sharing what we do and attracting our ideal clients. However, Alyona believes that Reels aren't going anywhere and are still a powerful tool in promoting your business online. She gives us her advice on creating content that is genuine and uniquely ‘you', which helps to build your audience's connection to your brand. We discuss what makes a good Reel in 2023, and Alyona shares some examples of simple video content you can use to serve your audience and provide them with valuable, free content. She assures us that we can say goodbye to making those uncomfortable lip-syncing videos and that Instagram now favours speaking Reels and good old fashioned 'being yourself.'Showing up on social media doesn't have to be a headache, and you don't need to follow the pack in how you create. Alyona believes that showing up in a way that feels right to you is the best way to stay committed to sharing your valuable content with others. We talk about the importance of always having a goal behind each piece of content you create, and how a simple Reel has the potential to drive traffic to your business and create final sales. Alyona gives us advice on the simple ways to create calls-to-action on your Instagram posts and funnel people into your direct messages. SummaryLeadership in crisis contexts. Many NGOs regularly work in contexts of crisis, or war. The war in Ukraine was one of those contexts, and it led quite a few NGOs to reallocate programming resources toward the Ukrainian population.PACT is a US-founded NGO which has worked in Ukraine for many years. In this podcast episode, I took the opportunity to ask Alyona Gerasimova, its Country Director, a number of things related to leadership skills, behaviors and actions in crisis. What leadership aspects are most important in such circumstances? How do you maintain your own individual sanity, while trying to keep your team motivated as well as safe? Does your leadership style vary, depending on what lens you use towards the crisis? There is some research that indicates whether a crisis is expected versus a surprise, or whether there is some time to respond, or not, impacts how leaders respond, who they consult to get to good decision-making, etc. You are in for a remarkable conversation. Alyona's Bio:Country Director of Pact UkraineIndependent consultant for Organisation Development/ Organisational ChangeCountry Director of Holt International Children's Service We discuss: How work can be a coping mechanism when everything else in the context is out of control – but you have to watch out for its downsidesThe power of gratitude for the little things when in crisisThe need to switch between short-term, medium-term, and long-term time horizons and perspectives and planning, all the time In volatile contexts, you need to frequently change your decision-making. This does not necessarily reflect bad decision-making, but just the need to be agilePersonality type-wise, some thrive in crisis; some can switch from a planful to an adaptive style, and some have difficulty functioning or making decisions in crisisSome opportunities for change, learning and innovation, which organizations learned during crisis are things they may want to hold on to after the crisis is over Quotes:“This is more than a crisis, this is a war. War consists of multiple crises”“Interestingly enough, the humanitarian sector was slow to respond in Ukraine, while the development sector was more agile in switching to humanitarian work” Resources:Alyona's LinkedIn ProfilePACT websitePACT Ukraine Facebook PagePACT TwitterYoutube video of this podcastClick here to subscribe to be alerted when new podcast episodes come out or when Tosca produces other thought leadership pieces.Or email Tosca at tosca@5oaksconsulting.org if you want to talk about your social sector organization's needs, challenges, and opportunities. You can find Tosca's content by following her on her social media channels: Twitter LinkedIn Facebook Youtube

Max, Alyona, Serhiy, Oleg, Alina and Vladyslav are leaving school this year - six 17 year olds full of dreams. Serhiy plans an epic bike ride; Max pours his heart into music - and they've all turned up for the prom that marks their passage into adulthood. But their school, School no. 20 in Chernihiv, has been shelled badly by the Russian army, and the school leavers face a future with none of the old certainties. In the early morning of February 24th, 'My mother came in and said that the war had begun… it was unreal,' Alyona says ‘I just went back to bed thinking it was cool that I didn't have to go to school and could sleep in. And then, when I finally realised… it was as if someone took the ground from under your feet, and now you're kind of weightless.' Alina tells us of the weeks she spent in the cellar, sleeping on a shelf meant for jam and trying to revise by candle light. When the fighting died down, she made her way across her bombed city to charge her phone at a special park bench fitted with solar panels. All six have found themselves changed forever by the last few months. They are thinking deeply about what will happen next. Vlad is still planning to study IT, but who knows? ‘If my country needs me, then so be it. I'll serve in the army.' Yet despite it all, they are teenagers still. Toffee popcorn, model dragons, and dresses all feature in a documentary full of life. The teenagers plan to stay in touch with one another in the years to come, even if their lives are scattered. And Assignment plans to stay in touch with them too. Alyona reaches out in this first episode to other teens in Ukraine and the wider world. ‘I want to say to all the people who are safe - don't feel bad about it. It's fine that you can eat, or smile, or just go for a walk and enjoy your life in peace. You must live your life!' With special thanks to Vladyslav Savenok and the staff and pupils at School no. 20, Chernihiv. alyona alyona - "Ridni moi (feat. Jerry Heil)," a 2022 single on ENKO. For Easter this year, Ukrainian rapper alyona alyona shared a plea to celebrate and to uphold traditions with her latest single "Рідні мої." She writes on YouTube: The warmest memories of most people in Ukraine during their lives are warm family gatherings for Easter. Opportunity to get away from business, to see the closest ones, to visit distant relatives, to take part in creation of Easter eggs, to taste mother's or grandmother's dishes from the childhood, to unite in continuation of national and family traditions... This year has radically changed us, changed everything around us. Many families will no longer reunite, many grandparents will no longer please their grandchildren, and many ovens will no longer bake Easter cakes. We have changed our values, changed our attitude to many things. But we will always carry the traditions of our nation and our families through the years. May the memory of them be eternal. This track is about pain, sadness, memories and family warmth. And about that things which unite us all, wherever we are. On Thursday, February 24th, Russian military forces crossed the border into Ukraine and ended a peace that had existed in Europe since World War II. The war in Ukraine has, among many other tragedies, created a massive humanitarian crisis with the millions and millions of Ukrainian citizens that have fled the country in search of safety. For those that have stayed, daily life has been completely upended and their future was thrown into uncertainty. But there are still plenty of Ukrainians trying to carve out a living and maintain a sense of normalcy amidst the invasion. Our guest today is Alyona Mysko, founder of FuelFinance, a cloud-based financial service based in Ukraine. Alyona has relocated her headquarters from Kyiv to Lviv in order to avoid the worst of the assault, but she still finds herself being woken up by the sounds of air raid sirens. Listen in to this special episode as we cover everything from what it's like to run a company in a country at war, the decision to stay in Ukraine versus fleeing, and her plans for both the short term and long term as the war drags on.
Listen in to a behind the scenes story meeting as the Bill Walton Show team speculates on what's going on in the world. Starlink satellites and all the junk flying around in space, Elon Musk vs Jeff Bezos, Ukraine, the domino theory, Biden's open borders, Alyona's Kazakhstan take on Russia, media's monolithic coverage of Ukraine, inflation, cooking oil and fertilizer prices, the insane (perhaps) Shanghai covid lockdown, the fragmenting world order and the dollar's reserve currency status, what's going on with China and Russia, corporate profits at all time highs … and more. Send us your thoughts about what we should cover.
