This week, I joined Niamh in Chicago and we went to an actual movie theater to see I Carry You With Me! It attempts to blend documentary and narrative filmmaking in ambitious ways that we didn't necessarily love, but got a really good discussion out of it. Then we moved on to talk about our regularly scheduled movie night movie, Red Peony Gambler 3: The Hanafuda Match. Now that's one hell of a movie. Next week we will be back to talk about the 1987 Wim Wenders movie, Wings of Desire! You can follow Niamh on twitter @FoxmomNia and listen to faer other podcast, Ghost Divers, by going to exportaud.io/ghostdivers You can follow Autumn on twitter by going to @Autumnal_Coffee and listen to all of their podcasts by going to exportaud.io.

Covering the whole spectrum of drum and bass (and beyond) in this month’s podcast we begin with A.M.C’s huge VIP of ‘Thor’, been waiting a long time to get my hands on that. Then comes ‘Architect’ by Invadhertz, intense forthcoming neuro on Delta9 Recordings. Things move through a number of cracking liquid tracks by Exploid, Semi Sense, Contra and Mindloader. Things take a heavier turn with Klinical & Objectiv delivering serious deep power in their free release ‘Alive’. Boombassbrothers provide a great unofficial remix of Break’s recent classic, followed by Dyrekt’s wobble-filled collaboration with Heritage. Ziz & Doc Logic turn things up further with ‘What Am I’ and Manta & Screamarts give us some straight up neuro on their free release ‘Rapture’. D.Side brings things down to a deeper, minimal level with his fantastic track ‘Disposed’ before we move through a number of liquid tracks and jazz inspired instrumentals, finishing with Break’s incredible remix of Technimatic’s ‘Bristol’. Follow to get your monthly dose of drum and bass! 1. A.M.C - Thor (VIP) 0:00 2. Invadhertz - Architect 2:28 3. Exploid - Singularity 3:54 4. Semi Sense - Sun glass Ears 6:00 5. Jones described the character as "someone struggling to find his identity", and identified with the character's loneliness being an orphan like Rand. He noted that "Danny gets really stressed and really pissed off sometimes, and I understand that ... [his] optimism and where that comes from."In preparation for the role, Jones studied kung fu, wushu, and tai chi, along with weight training, Buddhist philosophy, and meditation. Toby Nichols portrays a young Danny Rand. Jessica Henwick - as - Colleen Wing (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Game of Thrones) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3725055/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 A martial artist ally of Rand who runs her own martial arts dojo called Chikara Dojo in New York City. Henwick felt the most defining word for Wing was "alone", saying, "She doesn't want to be anyone's love interest and open herself up in that way." Henwick also tried "to pull out that sort of very dry humor that [Wing] has, and that no bullshit New Yorker demeanor" from the comics version in her portrayal. Tom Pelphrey - as - Ward Meachum (Guiding Light, As the World Turns, Banshee) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1670601/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 The son of Harold and childhood acquaintance of Rand, whose work building up Rand Enterprises with his sister Joy is threatened to be undone with Rand's return. Ward is a character from the comics, though Pelphrey noted "we’re not necessarily beholden to representing him [in the series] exactly as he appears in the comic book." Stroup said that Ward would experience some "male angst" on Rand's return, because "Ward would have been the one who picked on [Rand] when he was little so as pure and innocent and great as Iron Fist is, he comes in and he causes some problems" there. Ilan Eskenazi portrays a teenage Ward Meachum. Jessica Stroup - as - Joy Meachum (90210, The Following, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1888211/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 The daughter of Harold and childhood acquaintance of Rand, whose work building up Rand Enterprises with her brother Ward is threatened to be undone with Rand's return. Stroup said that Joy "absolutely loves" Rand, and his return to New York is "like this rebirth of what she once was, and she gets to ask these questions about herself because he’s posing them to her." Stroup said that Joy would initially be unsure whether Rand is who he says he is. Aimee Laurence portrays a young Joy Meachum. Ramón Rodríguez - as - Bakuto (The Wire, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Charlie's Angels TV Series, Need for Speed) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1913125/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t9 A leader of a faction of The Hand and Colleen Wing's sensei. Sacha Dhawan - as - Davos (After Earth, An Adventure in Space and Time, Sherlock) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0223527/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 A skilled martial artist who is the son of Lei Kung and Rand's former best friend in K'un-Lun, who grew envious when Rand became the Iron Fist. Although Dhawan first appeared in the ninth episode of the first season, Dhawan noted that the majority of Davos' storyline was intended to be explored in a potential second season. Rosario Dawson - as - Claire Temple (Josie and the Pussycats, Men in Black II, The Adventures of Pluto Nash, Sin City, Rent, Clerks II, Robot Chicken, Gemini Division, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Defenders) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0206257/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 A former nurse from Hell's Kitchen who joins Wing's dojo. Dawson reprises her role from previous Marvel Netflix series. David Wenham - as - Harold Meachum (Moulin Rouge!, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, After the Deluge, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Van Helsing, 300, 300: Rise of an Empire, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0920992/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 A ruthless corporate leader and co-founder of Rand Enterprises who was partners with Rand’s parents at the time of their deaths. Regarding Harold's relationship with his children, Joy and Ward, Wenham said the dynamic between the three of them "is complex, to say the least. It’s multilayered, it’s multidimensional, it’s surprising and it’s forever changing, depending on the circumstances." RECURRING CAST David Furr as Wendell Rand (Bit part actor in a ton. Noted for appearances in 13 Hours, TURN: Washington's Spies) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2412970/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 Danny's father and co-founder of Rand Enterprises. Stroup said that Joy would initially be unsure whether Rand is who he says he is. Aimee Laurence portrays a young Joy Meachum. Beneath them in the darkness under Midland Circle and the vast skeleton of Shou-Lao, Madame Gao (Wai Ching Ho)explains to Danny Rand (Finn Jones) that the dragon bones are the source of the substance used by the Hand for resurrection. As above so below destruction is sure to ensue, as Colleen and Claire Temple place the explosives to destroy the building, so the harvest of bones by the Hand will cause widespread destruction of New York City. In the skyscraper Wing (Jessica Henwick) and Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) are confronted by Bakuto (Ramon Rodriguez), who cuts off Misty Knight's (Simone Missick) arm as she arrives to help; but as Colleen kills Bakuto his headless body falls and sets off the timer for the explosives. Further down in the belly of the beast Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), and Luke Cage arrive to rescue Danny Rand from Elektra (Elodie Yung) and the Hand. In the heat of battle Matt’s senses detect the timer ticking down and he gets the others to leave as he remains to plead with Elektra to shun her darkness and recognise the good within her. As the timer ticks down Matt and Elektra are together as the building implodes around them, as well as Gao and Murakami (Yutaka Takeuchi) who failed to escape the cavern. In the aftermath of the incident at Midland Circle, the loss of Matt is felt throughout the remaining Defenders but most keenly with Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson).

It's been a while, but we've packed this episode with tons of recent nerdy consumption, and couldn't help but get into the social issues surrounding some of this stuff. First up, MST3k is back, and we're already in love with the first offering: Reptilicus! This movie contains what might truly be the worst special effects to ever make it into a non-hobbyist motion picture. Also, since last we spoke, we watched the entire run of Iron Fist. We discuss the goods and bads of the casting, the acting, the fighting, and the writing. And finally, Jordan Peele's marvelous film Get Out. This one touches on all sorts of taboos and leaves us with no choice but to discuss what is or isn't racism. Great stuff! As mentioned during that discussion, a couple great podcasts that Jeff subscribes to that recently covered Get Out: Black Girl Nerds No, Totally! Like what you hear? We would LOVE it if you tell some friends, or write a review on iTunes or Stitcher! Questions or comments? Meanwhile Bakuto offers the reanimated Harold Meachum Meachum (David Wenham) a partnership during his visit to him; but Harold decides that like Gao he needs to be removed. Back in the academy Danny learns that The Hand is conducting mass surveillance and is confronted by Bakuto, whom he overpowers and attempts to escape before being surrounded by Hand operatives. With impeccable timing Danny’s friend from K’un-Lun, Davos (Sacha Dhawan), comes to his aid. The duo fight their way to the gate, which needs to be destroyed by the Iron Fist, which Danny can no longer summon. The duo continues fighting The Hand until Colleen opens the gate, allowing them to escape while she escapes in her own direction. Davos tells Rand that they need to return to K'un-Lun.
