The new musical “Buena Vista Social Club” is now on Broadway after an acclaimed off-Broadway run. The show follows a group of Cuban musicians coming together to record the now-famous 1997 album Buena Vista Social Club. Marco Ramirez wrote the book for the musical, and Natalie Venetia Belcon stars as Omara, a vocalist convinced to come out of retirement to work on the album. Ramirez and Belcon discuss the production, which is running now at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater.*This segment is guest hosted by David Furst.

La seguridad de Dios produce confianza y paz en el corazón del creyente en Isaias 41:13 nos dice; Porque Yo Jehova soy tu Dios, quien te sostiene de tu mano derecha y te dice: No temas, yo te ayudo. Hablar de seguridad en un mundo amenazado por el terrorismo, la violencia doméstica y los hermanos tes constantes de inestabilidad política, es un tema inevitable. Actualmente, la sociedad adolescente de una seguridad real en todos sus estratos. Solo Cris to puede ofrecer verdadera seguridad, ocupando el corazón del hombre y apartando de él la violencia la maldad que lo mantiene en asecho contra su semejante. Aprendimos que la paz y seguridad de nuestras almas no solo descansa en el hecho de la presencia del Espíritu Santo en nuestra vida, sino además, que nuestra visión será transformada para ver el fin de nuestros enemigos y la victoria definitiva de nuestro Salvador.

El consuelo de Dios es un estimulo para su pueblo en tiempo de crisis, Isaias 49:13 nos dice; Cantad alabanzas, oh cielos, y alégrate, tierra; y prorrumpid en alabanzas, oh montes; porque Jehova ha consolado a su pueblo, y de sus pobres tendrá misericordia. En este estudio hallamos por lo menos tres grandes lecciones que debemos aplicar a nuestra vida como creyentes: 1) ¿Quién es Dios? Él se nos presenta con imágenes maravillosas; Primero, como un Dios compasivo. Segundo, como el arquitecto que va reparando todas las cosas para facilitar la comunicación con los suyos. Tercero, como un pastor amoroso que lleva en sus brazos a sus corderitos. 2) ¿Quiénes somos nosotros? El pasaje habla de que nuestra lealtad es como la hierba o la flor del campo, efímera. 3) ¿Cómo se relaciona Dios con nosotros? El pasaje revela a un Dios que ha hecho lo máximo por mostrarnos su amor, su compasión y su poder.

El royo del profeta Isaias es uno de los mas atesorados por los Israelitas de hoy, porque contiene las profecías mas alentadoras para la restauración del pueblo de Israel. Isaias 26:3 nos dice; Tu guardaras en completa paz a aquel cuyo pensamiento en ti persevera; porque en ti ha confiado. Este sermón del profeta Isaías se caracteriza por ser un canto de alegría y esperanza para el pueblo de Dios. Lo más probable es que en esencia este mensaje describe el reino milenial de Cristo, cuando Israel sea restaurado. Dentro de las varias enseñanzas que encontramos está la relacionada con el carácter que distingue a los verdaderos hijos de Dios, los cuales son llamados "gente justa", "guardadora de verdades", "cuyo pensamiento en ti persevera", que "en ti ha confiado", cuyo camino "es rectitud", que ha "'esperado" en los caminos de Jehová y cuyo deseo ardiente es buscar a Dios, pero no presionado por las circunstancias adversas de la vida, sino como un acto espontáneo y natural del alma.

E14. El pecado, ademas de provocar una crisis en el individuo se convierte en una plaga que se extienda a toda la humanidad. Proverbios 14:34 nos dice; La justicia engrandece a la nación; mas el pecado es afrenta de las naciones. La primera visión de Isaías contempla la necesidad del arrepentimiento. El pecado, lejos de ser una crisis personal se convierte en una plaga que se extiende a toda la humanidad. Toda nación que se aleja de Dios y pone sus esperanzas en la fuerza de su moneda, su ejército o su ciencia, termina de igual manera: enferma y confundida. Nos alienta la presencia del remanente y la bendita gracia de Dios revelada en la oferta de perdón y misericordia para con su pueblo. Nos anima a entender lo que dijo el apóstol Pablo: mas cuando el pecado abundó, sobreabundó la gracia (Romanos 5:20). E15. La naturaleza del trono de Dios excede a las limitaciones de nuestra comprensión de dominio y poder. Eclesiastés 5:8 nos dice; Si opresión de pobres y perversión de derecho y de justicia vieres en la provincia, no te maravilles de ello; porque sobre el alto vigila otro mas alto y no mas alto esta sobre ellos. Al concluir este tema debemos reafirmar nuestra fe en la gracia de Dios que hace posible que aun siendo nosotros limitados Él se ha complacido en revelarse a nosotros. Somos testigos de su poder el un mundo en decadencia, y esto sirve como señal de la proximidad de su retorno. Nuestra adoración tine que estar acompañada de un sentimiento de confesión por nuestra insuficiencia, y de un profundo sentido de compromiso como hijos de Dios. Si hemos respondido "Heme aqui", debemos estar dispuestos a decir "envíame a mí". Finalmente, la visión del Dios exaltado nos debe servir para elevar nuestros ojos y corazones más allá de los poderes de este mundo. Pertenecemos a un reino que no es de este mundo; por tanto, debemos vivir a la expec- tativa de su establecimiento y no dejarnos arrastrar por las vanas ofertas de este siglo pasajero.

La propagación de tanta doctrina fal sa y el incremento de la apostasía son señales del pronto regreso del Señor. En 2 Pedro 3:3,4 nos dice; Sabiendo primero esto, que en los postreros días vendrán burladores, andando según sus propias concupiscencias, y diciendo: ¿Dónde está la promesa de su advenimiento. En el pasaje de 2 Pedro 2:17-22, lo que hallamos es un análisis de las situaciones que pueden llevar a un cristiano a la reincidencia. También indica allí el apóstol como un reincidente puede ser arrastrado a la apostasía. De ahí la urgencia de orar por los que han sido desviados, para que el Señor les dé fe y no sigan en el error; de otro modo, pueden terminar en condenación (2:21,22). En 3:1-7, el apóstol Pedro revela algunos datos escatológicos. La apostasía de hoy, por ejemplo, es una indicación de que Cristo viene pronto. No sabemos el día ni la hora del regreso del Señor, pero nos aferramos a su promesa y nos preparamos mejor cada día.

Las virtudes espirituales forjan la personalidad cristiana, así como la salud, los alimentos y el ejercicio mantienen el cuerpo, 2 Pedro 1:10 nos dice; Por lo cual, hermanos, tanto mas procurad hacer firme vuestra vocación y elección; porque haciendo estas cosas no caeréis jamas. Desde el principio Pedro establece que “por la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo” he mos alcanzado una fe preciosa. Declara además que “las cosas que pertenecen a la vida ya la piedad” nos son dadas por el poder de Dios hacer paranos partícipes de la comunión con Él. Luego nos hace ver que Dios espera que, "poniendo toda diligen cia" añadamos virtud sobre virtud y fruto sobre fruto. La fe, la virtud, el conocimiento, el dominio propio, la paciencia, la piedad, el afecto fraternal y el amor son hechos reales que enriquecen al cris tiano y le dan vida.

En Cristo se termino el poder del pecado sobre nosotros y ahora podemos disfrutar del fruto y dones de su gracia para ministrarlos a otros en 1 Pedro 4:10 nos dice; Cada uno según el don que ha recibido, minístrelos a los otros, como buenos administradores de la multiforme gracia De Dios. Todo el capítulo 4 está dedicado a la amonestación al pueblo de Dios para que se oponga a las presiones del mundo. Pedro empieza por señalar que la vida antigua, viciada y pecaminosa, terminó cuando ren dimos nuestro ser a Cristo, quien se sometió al pa decimiento para darnos salvación (4:1-7). De ahí la importancia de la amonestación a ser sobrios y velar en oración (4:4-7). Existe la necesidad de estar siem pre produciendo el fruto del Espíritu (4:8,9). Aquí sobresalen el amor y la hospitalidad. Otro aspecto de la vida cristiana es la manifestación de los dones espirituales (4:10,11). No olvidemos que si no hay frutos no puede haber dones. El pasaje final (4:12-19) amonesta a la Iglesia a estar firme frente a las prue bas (4:14). El juicio debe comenzar en "la casa de Dios"; y "si el justo con dificultad se salva, ¿en dón de aparecer el impío y el pecador?" (4:18).

Good Morning it's Tuesday March 2nd and this is Slices of Wenatchee. We're excited to bring you a closer look at one of our top stories and other announcements every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.  Today -  Governor Jay Inslee still has not outlined what a third phase would look like. Member SIPC and FINRA. Now our feature story… Governor Jay Inslee announced this week that no region in the state would shift back into Phase 1 of the “Roadmap to Recovery” reopening plan. But the governor has still not outlined what a third phase would look like. This uncertainty has community members worried. State Representative Keith Goehner said that if you want citizens to buy into a plan, it is essential we have one in place. A plan with an expectation of what is next so we can work toward that goal. But for now, Inslee said they are still evaluating next steps. Small business owners in our community agree that there is a lack of clarity around when they'll be able to open at a higher capacity. For example, Mike McKee, the owner of Mike's Meats & Seafood Market in Pybus Public Market, said he envisions the next phase would allow restaurants at least 50% indoor capacity. McKee is also a co-founder of “Restore Washington,” a network focused around Washington tax issues that often strongly criticizes Inslee. He told us that with COVID-19 rates plummeting, there's really no reason to keep these restaurants at just 25%. Especially considering most of them cannot survive or be profitable at 25%. Marco Ramirez of Alma's Kitchen was not surprised by the lack of a third reopening phase - noting that Inslee is very cautious and is very dependent on numbers to make his decisions. In his words, it is what it is. Shiloh Burgess, the executive director at the Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce, described the lack of a next phase as deeply concerning. Noting that we're at a critical tipping point and our region cannot continue in this manner. Burgess also said our region lost half of the jobs it took our community 10 years to create, and we risk those jobs being lost permanently if employers cannot plan and operate at a sustainably profitable level. We also spoke with Karina Vega-Villa, the co-founder of the Immigrant and Latinx Solidarity Group and MESA program director at Wenatchee Valley College. Vega-Villa had a different take, saying that it is good to pause a little to figure out how the state will move ahead with reopening. She noted it's important to support the community and especially community members struggling, but things need to be done carefully. The two princesses selected for 2021 include Kody Richards and Kamryn Fowler. It initiated as a series of blasts from the summit then escalated on May 18, 1980, as a major explosive eruption. The eruption had a Volcanic Explosivity Index of 5. Many describe it as the most disastrous volcanic eruption in U.S. history. The eruption was preceded by a two-month series of earthquakes and steam-venting episodes. Approximately 57 people were killed directly. Hundreds of square miles were reduced to wasteland, causing over $1 billion in damage - equivalent to over $3.4 billion today. Thousands of animals were killed, and Mount St. Helens was left with a crater on its north side.  The area was later preserved, as it was, in the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. Member SIPC and FINRA. Restaurant owners give a sigh of relief with the return of indoor dining. They can finally begin the process of slowly recovering after months of closed doors. Gov. Jay Inslee announced relaxed COVID-19 rules for much of the state last Thursday.  Inslee has also acknowledged that closures have been difficult, but that efforts have paid off.  And now, restaurant owners in Wenatchee and around the state are excited to be open.  Edwin Fonseca, is co-owner at La Tortuga Loca in Wenatchee. He told us that he feels like people are eager to go out and have the dining experience again -- which for them, is a good thing. Because of the restaurant's small size and ease of transporting food — tacos, tortas, enchiladas, and more — reopening under the governor's Phase 2 rules is fairly simple..  Fonseca and his father also took pay cuts so they would not have to lay off employees when indoor dining was shut down, so they are in no rush to find employees now that things have opened back up. Fonseca said he was optimistic about their chances and grateful to the community for their support. But Alma's Kitchen cannot afford to bring back more employees -- even  while at 25% indoor capacity. Marco Ramirez, the son of co-owner Alma Ramirex said they were scrambling to get ready. According to Ramirez the last shutdown hit Alma's Kitchen during the worst possible time. They were  down to the last dollar when the third round of PPP loans came through. Though they're thankful, he said it seems like we're always pushing it to the extreme. And unlike La Tortuga Loca, takeout is not feasible for them. Alma's Kitchen hopes to be back at 100% indoor dining in March, but for now, anything is better than nothing. Ramirez also said that surviving each shutdown has left Alma's Kitchen with huge debt from the Paycheck Protection Program -- the program that was originally a lifeline for them.  And with the prospect of returning back to Phase 1 -- takeout only -- well Alma's Kitchen will do all it can to remain open, but without additional help it would be impossible. Juan Murriz Arroyo, the owner of El Rey Azteca in East Wenatchee said that the move to Phase 2 is bittersweet. While it means that COVID-19 cases are going down, for him it's also a reminder of how much he would like to see things go back to normal. Before Inslee's announcement on Thursday, El Rey Azteca was looking at one more month before they would have to close. Arroyo said he's happy with 25% and will continue to adapt to the situation but much like Ramirez, he remains worried about returning to Phase 1. Finally, we spoke with Craig Still, the owner of Garlini's Napoletana in Wenatchee. Still said he is thrilled about the move to 25% indoor dining. Garlini's had been working with the “open air” protocols that were allowing customers to dine inside as long as people were spaced six feet apart, and windows and doors were kept open. But with the transition to Phase 2, he no longer has to do that. Thanks to a takeout program and their customers, Garlini's was able to survive, and moving back to Phase 2 has infused some energy into the staff. Next, For Valentine's Day, local residents shared their memories of love. Today we're excited to share a few. Jennifer Thacker found her picture-perfect ending at Liberty Theatre in 1991. The East Wenatchee resident was 20 at the time. She was working as a box office attendant at the Wenatchee movie theater when she met her husband Sam. Sam worked at the local Domino's, and his co-worker was dating Jennifer's co-worker. Sam tried to get the co-worker to give him Jennifer's number, but was too shy to ask in person. So Jennifer ultimately took matters into her own hands. She went into Domino's and asked him out. For their first date, Jennifer got free tickets from the theater to see the newly-released Blake Edwards film “Switch”. A year later Jennifer and Sam were married at Lincoln Rock State Park, and they have remained together since. The Thackers were just one of 30 Wenatchee Valley residents to share her memorable location of love for The Wenatchee World's first Locations of Love map.  Here are some other highlights: Bob H. found his high-school sweetheart at Cashmere High School: They met in high school and got married on prom day -- It was cheaper to rent the tux once than have to rent it twice. They've been married almost 30 years. Victoria V. gave birth to their love at Central Washington Hospital: Victoria's first Love Location was at the Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, where she gave birth to her daughter Payton-Olivia. And a few of our readers celebrated love at Mission Ridge: Brian H had one of his first dates with his now wife at Mission Ridge Ski & Board Resort. She had never skied before and he wanted to teach her how. Time went by and he ended up popping the question in that same location. They've been married for four years now and still go skiing all the time. Melanie R said she and her husband both grew up in the Wenatchee Valley but met after high school. They love the outdoors. They set their wedding date for August 8th of 1998 at Mission Ridge. They've been married now for 22 years and still live in the valley.  And finally, Anne and Rod H. were sitting on the top of a rock at graffiti corner on Mission Ridge Road after a good day of skiing --- they drank a beer, looked out at the valley, and were thankful for the good life they've had. The four-year old restaurant had just gotten its liquor license last winter before COVID-19 hit. Now, assistant manager Marco Ramirez says they're hanging by a thread.    Alma's Kitchen is a family business owned by Marcos's mother, Alma, and older brother, Luis.   And the restaurant is now back to square one with restrictions to indoor dining. They were forced to let go of 12 employees back in March but slowly managed to hire back four employees.   Now, as Covid rates climb, the restaurant is down to one employee again, and things are not expected to improve.    During the first wave they learned that doing curbside and takeout will only barely allow them to make enough to cover expenses.   But the restaurant will be cooperating with the new restrictions despite these setbacks. Ramirez told us that “Things may not have been so bad if people had simply followed the rules from the get-go, if people don't want to cooperate, then we all get to pay for it. I think that's what we're doing right now.”   Alma's Kitchen found creative ways to get through the first wave of Covid - with the support of customers and with grants and loans through Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority. They began specials like Taco Tuesdays and Fajita Fridays, and now they plan on working with local delivery service, Dashing Drivers, to deliver food to customers. They're not ready to give up.   Salvador Tovar, owner of Tacos Chava, also remains optimistic about the future of his restaurant despite being located in the Wenatchee Valley Mall where maximum occupancy has been cut down to a mere 10%.    But he said that “As long as the mall stays open, I know that people will come to buy, I have faith in all Tacos Chava customers. We have a lot of [customers] that are faithful, and I know that they will help us out.”   If the mall did close, Tacos Chava would resort to their mobile kitchen. Tovar said they will do anything in their power to not disappear after 10 years in business.   We also spoke to the owner of El Rey Azteca, Juan Murriz Arroyo. El Rey Azteca is an East Wenatchee restaurant that had just started to gain a reliable clientele when the first shutdown hit in March.   Arroyo had to let go of 11 employees, and hired back four thanks to the federal Paycheck Protection Program, but that was not enough to cover every need of the business.   Arroyo plans on waiting to see how long the restrictions will last. He said that “It's an economic impact, but I believe that our health and our community's health is more important than business. This enemy is invisible and silent. Better known to some as East Wenatchee musician David Betancourt, he knows what he's going for... [quote] “The pale, dead look … I like that”   While he officially put SHANX FM out into the world in 2012, he kept it as more of a secondary project until March, when COVID-19 came to Wenatchee. Then, he released his first new song of 2020 aptly named, "Sweet Quarantine".   The idea to create SHANX started in middle school. Betancourt said that it was supposed to be a band called ‘The SHANX' … but, in the end, he just ended up alone. With such an important episode Marvel brings in one of the most experienced directors on the small screen, Michael Zinberg, to make it happen and adds the Executive Producer of Marvel’s Most Wanted as the episode’s writer to ensure a successful transition for Mockingbird and Hunter.  SP and Haley assume the transition includes finding out Hunter’s mushroom soup recipe in Marvel’s Most Wanted and SP and Haley also question whether Hunter really is a Ravenclaw at heart (#HarryPotter). SP and Haley also debate whether Bobbi killing the General was out of character. In a very powerful statement Bobbi Morse and Hunter recite a very quick oath that they took to be THE Shield, not necessarily to be part of S.H.I.E.L.D. and voluntarily take the hit to be separated from the team they know and love and this hits SP and Haley right in the feels. As does the “Spy’s Goodbye” at the end. Overall, though, the story was a bit convoluted and jumped the shark in a couple of places such as the President just showing up unannounced in Siberia. The limited fighting that was shown was incredible as always including Daisy and Mockingbird’s back to back fight with the General’s evil dark shifty avatar. SP is happy that the show is showing the Zephyr more but really just wants them to call it The Bus. SP also ran down some of Chloe Bennett’s C2E2 panel as it pertained to the upcoming Civil War that has been reflected in Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. all season long. SP and Haley are pleased to meet Malik’s daughter who Haley points out is a One Tree Hill alum. Haley wonders why S.H.I.E.L.D. agents do not show up in any of the 3 Netflix seasons yet. Haley also asks what would happen if SP was confronted by both Mockingbird and Agent 13 at the same time. Despite this Elektra was an amazing add to the series. And the season ends with definite plots to explore in Defenders or a Daredevil season 3. SP points out the series seems to be headed in the direction of the current Daredevil Marvel Comics run (go check out Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
