Lenka Glassman, PsyD has just published What To Do When You Panic: A Kid's Guide to Transforming Panic Into Personal Power She has also written a book for middle school children How to Master Your Mood in Middle School She is a clinical psychologist practicing in Bethesda MD and can be found at drlenkaglassman.com Her workbook fills a much needed gap in helping children with intense feelings that really take over. She delightfully engages her school age audience with using "magic tricks" to tame panic such "magic breathing", and paradoxically doing the opposite of what "panic" wants. Parents will feel more confident handling tough moments after reading this book.

Have you ever considered running a private practice while living abroad?I sat down with Dyan Dickerson who is a speech-language pathologist with a virtual, floortime-focused private practice in the US and London. Dyan discovered her passion for floortime therapy after working with a very special child and his family during undergrad. In this episode, Dyan shares her love of floortime therapy and talks about how starting her own private practice allowed her the freedom to move abroad with her family while still seeing clients virtually.Dyan is an SLP, private practice owner, and mom working in America and the UK. Dyan worked at The Floortime Center in Bethesda MD straight out of grad school after falling in love with the Floortime Approach and DIR model in her undergraduate program. She learned from a team of amazing professionals while working there and was able to be a part of some great experiences from giving trainings, lectures both stateside and abroad, and being a part of a top-notch team. But she always wanted to open her own practice one day, having control over her therapy, schedule, and programs. And when her family started to grow- it was the perfect time to make the switch. She is passionate about supporting and advocating for neurodivergent children and their families and sees individual clients, has intensive programs, and helps to train other therapists wanting to use a child-led, developmental therapy approach. As a private practice owner, she sees the importance of keeping up collaborative relationships as well as continuing her education with courses around her niche. In Today's Episode, We Discuss:Dyan's journey into private practiceThe power of finding your clinical passion How Dyan packed up her family and private practice and moved to LondonHow intensives can be used in your therapy sessionsCreating a private practice that fits around your life not the other way aroundThe freedom and flexibility to do what you want, where you want with a private practiceDyans plans for the future of her private practiceWhy you need people to collaborate with, even as a private practice ownerI hope you enjoyed this conversation with Dyan! She is a perfect example of someone who found the flexibility and freedom to travel and make her own schedule by starting her own private practice. About Kara Ghassabeh: She helps brides gracefully navigate wedding drama so they can have stronger relationships with those who matter most. She can teach you how to transform your wedding drama into the best marriage prep around. With a masters in Social Work and Life Coaching Certification from Martha Beck Inc. (Oprah's Life Coach), Kara combined her passion for helping smart, savvy women with her childhood love of weddings to carve out her own category in the industry. Based in Bethesda MD with her husband Reza and daughters Magnolia and Rose, Kara serves clients all over the country. In this episode, Jamie, Heather and Kara discuss:What is a bridal coach and what does it take to become one? Dealing with unmet expectations in an emotionally-charged time. Broken engagements and broken marriagesDealing with post-wedding blues Key Takeaways:Weddings can be too much and too often, the married couple don't really get to be present and enjoy the most awaited moment of their life because of the stress. A couple of conversations with a bridal coach could be enough to save the day. People that you thought would be there for you might not be, and that can cause a lot of frustration. It's better to have a broken engagement than a broken marriage Don't suffer in silence, talk it out with someone so that you can enjoy your special day. It takes more energy to resist the drama than to just commit to addressing it. "How are you gonna show up to the most expensive, beautiful and the day you've thought of the most of your life… and not really be there clear-hearted and clear-minded? Mahlon Joined the Navy in 2003 as a Hospital Corpsman stationed at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda MD. He received orders to Iraq where he was assigned to 18th Battalion 7th Brigade Multinational Security Transition Command Iraq. Located in the city of Fallujah on March 2005, he was the only medical provider for this battalion. After 6 months, he returned home and finished off the remainder of his contract at The Basic School in Quantico VA discharging Feb. 2010. Transitioning back to civilian life isn’t easy and he was no exception. He reached points in his life where suicide became an option. His wife tried to understand but was left with no other option but to threaten to kick him out. He was lost between who I use to be and what I had become. He found a combat support group in Fredericksburg VA and after a few months, he accepted a full-time job as a Veteran Peer Specialist for the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program (VWWP). Over the course of 5 years, he worked with Veterans from all eras to provide them with various resources through local, state, and/or non-profit organizations. Through this he was able to find his purpose again. The group became largest support group in the state. Mahlon trained other Peer Specialists and helped organize their support groups to include the programs first Family Support Group. Responsible for hundreds of square miles tracking veterans down, he worked with local law enforcement, Community Services Boards, VFW’s, American Legions, local churches, and Congressman Rob Wittman and Governor Bob McDonnell on Veteran related issues throughout the state. After completing his EMT training he landed his career job with Fauquier County in January of 2017. He currently leads their Peer Support Team.

Alexandra Robbins' study of contemporary American high school culture entitled The Overachievers: The Secret Lives of Driven Kids is based on a visit to the high school she attended more than a decade ago and which she says has now changed for the worse.
