237 | Gemini New Moon: Overheard at the Cafeteria!

Big Sky Astrology Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 3, 2024 29:44

This week, Mercury enters its home sign, Gemini, supervises an extremely Gemini-heavy New Moon, and makes aspects to “sky's the limit” Jupiter and down-and-dirty Pluto. Fortunately, Mars' entry into methodical Taurus, and the Sun and Venus' conjunctions with Saturn, should apply the brakes and help with focus and concentration. And April answers a listener question about what to expect from a New Moon in the solar return chart. Plus: Sleuthing, confetti, and a backup in the print queue! Read a full transcript of this episode. Have a question you'd like answered on the show? Email April or leave it here! Subscribe to April's mailing list and get a free lunar workbook at each New Moon! Love the show? Make a donation! Timestamps [1:09] Mercury enters Gemini (June 3, 12:36 am PDT) through June 17. Being in its own sign puts Mercury into overdrive! Expect to be busy. [2:33] Mercury trines Pluto (June 3, 11:12 pm PDT), bringing depth and intensity to Mercury in Gemini. Look beneath the surface and determine motivations. Tackle projects requiring troubleshooting. [4:26] Mercury bounces back from its trine to Pluto with a conjunction to “sky's the limit” Jupiter (June 4, 3:23 am PDT). Enjoy the positivity and optimism! [6:06] Sun conjoins Venus (June 4, 8:33 am PDT), on the Sabian symbol 15 Gemini, Two Dutch children talking. Spend time with the people who speak your language, and tell the people you care about just how much you care. [8:23] Moon Report! The Gemini New Moon (June 6, 5:38 am PDT) is at 16º17' Gemini, on the Sabian symbol 17 Gemini, The head of a robust youth changes into that of a mature thinker. This New Moon chart is heavy with Gemini planets, and several of them make exact square aspects to Saturn. This can be frustrating, but only because we're being forced to slow down and think about things, becoming “a mature thinker.” [10:25] This New Moon initiates a lunar phase family cycle (LPFC) that reaches its First Quarter action point on March 6, 2025, Full Moon awareness point on Dec. 4, 2025, and Last Quarter Moon action point on Sep. 4, 2026. We'll all be thinking a little more “maturely” by then. [11:53] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon periods. Neptune at the very last degree of its sign means this week's VOC periods all begin with aspects to Neptune. Confusion is possible, but so are imagination, healing, and releasing. [12:28] On June 5 (1:09 am PDT), the Moon in Taurus sextiles Neptune and is VOC for 27 minutes before entering Gemini (1:36 am). Blend practicality with imagination. [13:36] On June 7 (5:16 am PDT), the Moon in Gemini squares Neptune (5:16 am PDT). It's VOC for 25 minutes, then enters Cancer (5:41 am). Choose sensitivity over wit in your communications. [14:32] On June 9 (12:05 pm PDT), the Moon in Cancer trines Neptune, is VOC for 24 minutes, then enters Leo (12:29 pm). Show and share how much you care for the people in your life. [15:54] Venus (June 8, 1:25 am PDT) and the Sun (June 9, 3:36 am PDT) square Saturn on the Sabian symbols 20 Gemini, A cafeteria, and 20 Pisces, A table set for an evening meal. Both squares show the tension between Gemini's desire to keep moving and Pisces' desire to spend quality time. Venus square Saturn may cause tension in relationships, and the Sun with Saturn can be physically draining. [19:10] Mars enters Taurus (June 8, 9:35 pm PDT) through July 20, putting on the brakes after Mars' fast-paced journey through Aries (since April 30). Mars in Taurus teaches patience and perseverance, and has a long fuse but is scary when it loses its temper. [21:20] Listener “New Moona” has a question about Solar Returns, and specifically those that feature a New Moon. You can order your own Solar Return report, with text by Mary Shea, at the Big Sky Astrology website. [6:27] Moon Report! The Last Quarter Mercury-ruled, Gemini Moon (3:21 PM PDT) is at 14º03' Gemini on the Sabian symbol 15 Gemini, Two Dutch children talking. Just a heads up, as the Moon squares Mercury today (1:45 PM PDT), feelings may not match up with words. [7:35] Tuneful greetings from Listener Emily! [8:20] The name Wednesday is derived from “Wodensday”, a nod to the Norse God Odin, which was called Woden in old English. Woden and Mercury shared association with communication, knowledge, and travel, and eventually referred to the same day of the week. Since Mercury is associated with manual and mental dexterity, mend clothing, study, communicate, and run neighborhood errands. [10:44] A closer look at the Lunar Phase Family Cycles. Let's give a Big Sky Astrology shout out to Celeste Brooks of Astrology by Celeste, who tipped April off to these cycles. Check out their interview on Episode 141. Big Sky Astrology on Facebook | Instagram |  Twitter |  YouTube Timestamps [1:18] Venus enters Leo on June 5th (6:46 AM PDT).  Venus will get almost to the end of the sign, 28°36' Leo, before it turns retrograde on July 22, 2023. It stations direct on September 3, 2023 and enters Virgo on October 8, 2023. [2:16] While Venus is in Leo, love like a warm-hearted lion!  It's time to socialize, party and entertain loved ones! [3:38] Venus will oppose Pluto on June 5th (9:04 AM PDT) at 00°05' Leo and Aquarius.  Maybe keep yourself to yourself a little bit and with the people who know and love you best. [4:56] Venus will square the Lunar Nodes on June 8th (1:37 PM PDT) at 03°04' of Leo and Taurus.  The Sabian symbol for the North Node at this square is 4 Taurus, The rainbow's pot of gold.  Find that “pot of gold” by sharing more of yourself, your talents and Leonine social impulses. [7:42] Moon Report!  The Pisces Last Quarter Moon (June 10th, 12:31 PM PDT) at 19°40' Pisces is on the Sabian symbol, A table set for an evening meal. It squares the Sun at 19°40' Gemini, on the Sabian symbol, A cafeteria. This Last Quarter Moon is also in a conjunction with Neptune, the modern ruler of Pisces. What's more important, having convenience and variety or taking the time to settle in with people that we care about? [9:46] This is the Last Quarter Phase in a Lunar Phase Family that began with the New Moon on March 13th, 2021 at 23° Pisces. The First Quarter in the Lunar Phase Cycle was on December 10th, 2021, and the Full Moon was on September 10th, 2022.  What needs to happen to complete the intentions set at that March 2021 New Moon? [10:53] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon Periods. The Moon in Capricorn sextiles Neptune in Pisces on June 6th (9:40 PM PDT) and will be VOC for about four hours before entering Aquarius on June 7th (1:41 AM PDT). You may have a dream, but how do you make it real?" [12:14] The Moon in Aquarius, in its Disseminating phase, squares Mercury in Taurus on June 8th (9:24 PM PDT).  It's VOC for a little under six hours and then enters Pisces on June 9th (3:14 AM PDT). The Disseminating Lunar Phase is a time to tell your story.  During this VOC period, tell your story, even if it's a little bit emotionally charged to do so. [13:07] On June 11th, the Moon in Pisces sextiles Pluto and will be VOC for a whopping 16 seconds, between 6:20:08 AM PDT and 6:20:24 AM PDT! The Moon says, “Welcome back to Capricorn, lil' Pluto!” [13:56] Pluto retrograde enters Capricorn on June 11th (2:35 AM PDT). Pluto entered Aquarius on March 23rd, 2023. It stations direct on October 10th, 2023 at 27°53' Capricorn.  Pluto was at these degrees the first week of January 2023. How well are we doing with the practical considerations of Pluto in Capricorn? [16:05] Mercury trines Pluto on June 11th (3:26:04 AM PDT) at 29°59' of Taurus and Capricorn and enters Gemini 32 seconds later (3:26:36 AM PDT). The Sabian symbol for Pluto is 30 Capricorn, A secret business conference. Use the power of information in the most impactful way possible. [17:58] Mercury will enter Gemini, one of its domiciles, on June 11th (3:26 AM PDT). It will be in Gemini until June 26, 2023  Use this time to catch up on all things Gemini, such as short-distance travel, taking tests, socializing and conquering a pile of paperwork. [18:38] On June 11th (8:39 AM PDT), Venus squares Jupiter at 05°37' Leo and Taurus.  This is the first of three squares that Venus will make with Jupiter; the second is on August 22nd while Venus is retrograde, and then again on September 16th, 2023.  This combo can equal a tremendous appetite for whatever it is we like. Venus is on the Sabian symbol, 6 Leo, Old-fashioned woman and up to date girl.  Jupiter is on 6 Taurus, A bridge being built across a gorge. [20:42] Listener Stephanie asks via SpeakPipe about interpreting an aspect between two planets in a chart. Big Sky Astrology on Facebook | Instagram |  Twitter |  YouTube Timestamps [1:09] Mercury conjoins Jupiter on March 27 (11:50 PM PDT) at 18°13' Aries. The Sabian symbol for 19 Aries is, “The magic carpet.” This is a day to brainstorm and use your imagination to solve problems and to elevate ideas. [2:35] Moon Report! First up, a First Quarter Moon at 08°08' Cancer on March 28th (7:32 PM PDT).  This is the First Quarter Phase of the March 21st New Moon at 00°49' Aries. It's also the First Quarter in a Lunar Phase Family that began at the June 28th, 2022 New Moon. The Sabian symbol for this First Quarter Moon is 9 Cancer, “A small naked girl bends over a pond trying to catch a fish,” encourages a playful spirit to take some kind of action toward a goal. [4:02] This First Quarter Moon is in a conjunction with Mars. Be mindful of the actions you take because you could get “bit” by something sharp and pointy! [4:23] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon periods. On March 27th, the Moon in Gemini makes a square to Neptune (6:39 PM PDT), then it's VOC for about 6 3/4 hours before it enters Cancer on March 28th (3:22 AM PDT). Sleep may be difficult, but this is a juicy VOC period to journal about your dreams. [5:20] On March 30th, the Moon in Cancer trines Neptune (6:45 AM PDT). It's VOC for about 8 3/4 hours before it enters Leo (3:31 PM PDT).  Be gentle.  Bring imagination and feeling to everything you do. [5:58] The Moon in Leeeeeeooooo trines Mercury (11:05 PM PDT) on April 1st and it will be VOC for about five hours before entering Virgo on April 2nd (3:57 AM PDT).  The imagination of the recent Moon in Cancer VOC period is now ready to be expressed through some creative project. Let your light shine like the star that you are. [6:46] On March 30th (12:03 PM PDT), Mars trines Saturn at 02°36' Cancer and Pisces. This is a prime aspect for accomplishing projects.  Follow your hunches when making decisions. [7:42] Mars is on the Sabian symbol, 3 Cancer, “A man in fur leading a shaggy deer.”  Since Mars is in family-oriented Cancer, this could represent a positive turning point in family relationships. [8:36] A few hours later on March 30th (3:25 PM PDT), Venus makes a conjunction with Uranus at 16°44' Taurus. This Venus/Uranus conjunction, coupled with the Mars/Saturn trine, signals an important day for relationships and finances. Don't be afraid to mix things up a bit. [10:37] Pluto in Aspect to Natal Planets mini-lesson. Due to the slow speed of Pluto and retrogrades, you can expect Pluto to take about a year to complete an aspect to a planet in your birth chart. This week, the Aries Equinox and the first of two Aries New Moons announce the arrival of the astrological new year; Pluto changes signs and picks out a new pot to cook us in; and Mars finally leaves Gemini after nearly seven nerve-frazzling months. And in this week's mini-lesson, April gives an overview of Pluto transiting through the houses of the birth chart. Plus: Power tools, paparazzi, and…is it a Saturn thing or a Pluto thing? Big Sky Astrology on Facebook | Instagram |  Twitter |  YouTube Timestamps [1:06] The Sun sextiles Pluto on March 20th (1:12 PM PDT) at 29°57' Pisces and Capricorn. This sextile favors picking up old threads instead of starting something from scratch. Look back to January 18, 2023 for clues as to what these threads could be.  Pluto will revisit this degree June - July 2023 and then again in December 2023. [3:34] On the same day, March 20th, about one hour later (2:24 PM PDT), the Sun enters the sign of Aries and that marks the Aries Equinox, one of the two days of the year when day and night are equal in length. [4:17] Mars is the ruler of Aries, so look to Mars for the mood and flavor of this Spring (or Fall in the Southern Hemisphere). At the time of the Aries Equinox, Mars will be finishing up an extended stay in communicative Gemini. Five days after the Equinox, Mars will enter Cancer which carries associations of home, family, and feasting. [5:42] Moon Report! The New Moon at 0°49' Aries will occur on March 21st (10:23 AM PDT). It's a very powerful New Moon on what is called the Aries Point, 0° Aries. The Sun and the Moon are also square Aries' ruler, Mars… feisty! [6:39] This New Moon begins a Lunar Phase Family which reaches critical points at the First Quarter Moon on December 19, 2023; the Full Moon on September 17, 2024; and the Last Quarter Phase on June 18, 2025. Take your cue from Nike and “Just Do It!”  Also, sign up for April's free monthly lunar workbooks here! [8:39] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon periods. On March 21st, the Moon in Pisces sextiles Pluto (8:58 AM PDT). It's VOC for just about an hour, and then enters Aries (9:01 am).  Meditate on how to advocate for caring and healing while dodging the dark side of escapism and/or martyrdom. [10:05] The Moon in Aries sextiles Mars on March 23rd (10:13 AM PDT). It will be VOC for about an hour and a half, then enters Taurus (11:42 AM PDT). This would be an excellent time to launch something that you have been working on. [11:02] On March 25th, the Moon in Taurus sextiles Neptune (9:19 am PDT). The Moon is VOC for about eight and a half hours before entering Gemini (5:41 PM PDT).  Think about tackling a weekend home project that involves water, such as establishing an irrigation system, building a water feature, or dealing with mold remediation. [12:15] Cue the dramatic spooky music because Pluto is entering Aquarius on March 23rd (5:23 AM PDT). For the most part, it will be in this sign through January 2044.  Pluto will retrograde back into Capricorn and sit at that 29th degree between June 11th and January 20th, 2024, then again between September 1 - November 19, 2024. [13:15] Pluto wants to get rid of whatever is extraneous and bring us down to what we truly are. Pluto has a long cycle, 248 years, and it has a bit of an odd orbit, so it spends different amounts of time transiting through different signs of the zodiac.  It spent around 18 years in Capricorn and will spend 20 years in Aquarius. [14:07] For a recap on Pluto in Aquarius themes, check out Episode 169. [14:33] On a personal level, look for the House or Houses that Pluto in Aquarius will travel through in your birth chart. Take note that Saturn just moved into Pisces last week.  Saturn tends to make us feel blocked, and Pluto sometimes make us feel demoralized or like there isn't a lot of point trying to move forward. [16:19] Pluto represents a collective energy. When it is changing signs, we tend to see it show up in the world around us. Last week's bank failures and the 2008 financial crisis are examples of Pluto (collective finances) in action. [17:27] Stop the presses!!! On March 25th (4:45 AM PDT), Mars enters Cancer, finally leaving Gemini, which it entered on August 20th, 2022. Mars was also retrograde while in Gemini, between October 30, 2022 - January 12, 2023. [18:59] Mars will be in Cancer, the sign of its fall, until May 20, 2023. It will trine Saturn on March 30th, sextile Uranus on April 29th, trine Neptune on May 15th. This side-stepping Mars will have some allies along its way through Cancer. [21:28] Mini-lesson: Transiting Pluto in the Houses of the Chart [23:36] Pluto in the 1st House.  "It's like an actress caught by the paparazzi without her makeup." [25:09] Pluto in the 2nd House. Experience the hills and valleys of personal finances. [25:43] Pluto in the 3rd House. Stand for nothing less than the truth. Shifts in the lives of siblings and your neighborhood are also possible. [26:28] Pluto in the 4th House. A transit of figuring out what your true home is, who your true family is. You might possibly see yourself moving to a new place as well. [27:05] Pluto in the 5th House. Lean into genuine love affairs and creative projects. Learn to let go of the need to control your children. [28:02] Pluto in the 6th House. Live a life that makes you feel proud of your ability to give to others. [28:52] Pluto in the 7th House. Figure out who really deserves to be in your life on the most intimate of levels. [29:31] Pluto in the 8th House. Learn how to use what is sent to you for the greatest good. [30:16] Pluto in the 9th House. Being at odds with institutions is possible. [30:53] Pluto in the 10th House. Find a way to be in more control of your life path or toxic workplaces could be the result. Secrets can be revealed. [32:08] Pluto in the 11th House. Find your true friends. Be strong enough to stand apart from the pack. [32:36] Pluto in the 12th House. You know that juicy stuff in life that you try to ignore?  Yeah, that's going to become more apparent. Get a therapist or other help to guide you through the process. It also represents the final critical moment in the Lunar Gestation Cycle that began with the Sagittarius New Moon on December 14th, 2020. If there is anything in your chart near 23° of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces, this is an important cycle that could be related to adventure and/or higher education. [6:03] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon periods. On March 15th, the Moon in Sagittarius trines Venus in Aries at 1:50 AM PDT. It's VOC for about three and one quarter hours, and enters Capricorn at 5:06 AM PDT. If somebody offer you something pleasant during this VOC Moon period, know that there could be strings attached. [7:30] The Moon in Capricorn conjoins Pluto on March 17th at 7:13 AM PDT, then begins a laughably short VOC period – only 12 minutes! – before it enters Aquarius at 7:25 AM PDT. Consider this graduation for the lessons of emotional intelligence we've learned in recent Moon/Pluto VOC periods. [8:27] On March 19th, the Moon in Aquarius trines Mars in Gemini at 3:33 AM PDT and is VOC for about four and a half hours before it enters Pisces at 8:12 AM PDT.  Appreciate those encouraging friends who have helped you through life's rough patches. [10:30] The personality-driven Sun makes its annual conjunction to nebulous Neptune on March 15th (4:39 PM PDT) at 25°06' Pisces.  The very next day, on March 16th (10:13 AM PDT), storyteller Mercury conjoins Neptune at 25°08' Pisces as well.  “What other ways can I refer to myself, name myself, and label myself?” [12:52] On March 16th (11:09 AM PDT), the Sun squares Mars at 25°53' of Pisces and Gemini. Later that evening (9:48 PM PDT), Mercury squares Mars later that evening at 26°05' Pisces and Gemini. [13:32] The Sabian symbol for the Sun at this square is “A new moon that divides its influences.” This could indicate that our attention is a little bit too divided to get something done. The Sun and Mercury are in a closing square to Mars and finishing up this long Mars in Gemini cycle with a chance to let go and to find peace and healing. [14:40] Venus squares Pluto on March 16th (12:58 PM PDT) at 29° 52' Aries and Capricorn. Venus is on the Sabian symbol, 30 Aries, “A duck pond and its brood,” which suggests there's enough for everybody. But, the Sabian symbol for Pluto's degree at this square, which is 30 Capricorn, “A secret business conference,” suggests that powerful forces might influence who gets what. [15:32] Aspects between Venus and Pluto are usually felt in our relationships and financial dealings. If something you desire isn't coming through for us, we might discover later on that it was for the best. [16:52] On March 16th (3:34 PM PDT), Venus gets some relief as she moves away from her square to Pluto and into Taurus, one of her home signs (through April 10). Take care of and appreciate all the things that are yours, and enjoy the beautiful and simple pleasures of living in a body and on this planet. [19:30] Mercury and the Sun conjoin at 26°34' Pisces on March 17th (3:44 AM PDT).  Be conscious about the ideas and impressions you collect leading up to Mercury's next retrograde on April 22, 2023. [21:13] Dates for Pluto's transits between Aquarius and Capricorn. [23:24] A recap on past Pluto transits. [26:16] Some Pluto in Aquarius possibilities. [28:27] In next week's episode, Pluto in Aquarius moving through the houses of a chart. Big Sky Astrology on Facebook | Instagram |  Twitter |  YouTube Timestamps [1:16] The week begins with the Sun sextile Uranus on March 6th (5:42 AM PST), at 15°42' Pisces and Taurus. The Sun in aspect with Uranus is an invitation to change the way we think about ourselves. [1:53] The Sabian symbol for the Sun, 16 Pisces: The flow of inspiration, speaks to the ways we glide along in our sense of who we are. Uranus in Taurus challenges this unconscious flow with changes that can be tangible and long-lasting. [3:39] Moon Report!  The Full Moon is on March 7th (4:40 AM PST) at 16°40' Virgo.  The Full Moon is a revelation point for the Pisces New Moon on February 19th or 20th, depending on where you live. It's also a revelation point in the Lunar Gestation cycle that began with the Virgo New Moon on September 6th, 2021. [5:19] The Sabian symbol for this Full Moon is 17 Virgo, A volcano interruption. A perfect description of this Full Moon which is trine Uranus and square Mars, both of which are very volatile and combustible planets. Try rigorous exercise or spring cleaning to release any excess energy. [6:38] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon periods. On March 8th, the Moon in Virgo trines Pluto at (6:07 AM PST) and is VOC just a little over a half an hour before it enters Libra (6:44 AM PST). What progress have you made in rewiring your mindset around healthy habits and having a productive, service-orientated mindset? [7:54] The Moon in Libra squares Pluto (3:36 pm PST) on March 10th. It is VOC for just about a half an hour, before it enters Scorpio (4:06 PM PST). Have you broken habits of being overaccommodating in your relationships? [8:30] On March 12th, the Moon in Scorpio is sextile Pluto (11:58 PM PDT). It is VOC for only 23 minutes, before it enters Sagittarius on March 13th (12:21 AM PDT). Have you transcended petty grudges and negative emotions? [9:28] Saturn will enter Pisces on March 7th (5:35 AM PST) and will stay in this sign until May 24, 2025, and then between September 1, 2025 and February 13, 2026.  Saturn moving into a new sign, which it does about every two-and-a-half years, is a little bit like starting a new job. [10:35] Saturn's goal is always to make us stronger and better versions of ourselves. Saturn in Pisces requires that we combine practical boundaries with helpful impulses. [12:28] On March 11th (7:05 AM PST), Venus makes a sextile aspect to Mars at 23°34' Aries and Gemini.  The Sabian symbol for Venus, 24 Aries, is An open window and a net curtain blowing into a cornucopia. Combine last week's optimistic Venus/Jupiter conjunction with this Venus/Mars aspect and you could find an opportunity to take some relationship to a new level. [13:31] A few hours later on March 11th (1:04 PM PST), Mercury sextiles Uranus at 15°54' Pisces and Taurus. The Sabian symbol for Uranus is 16 Taurus Old man attempting vainly to reveal the mysteries; allow input from people you trust, but in the end, you have to do things your own way. [15:23] Mini-Lesson: Saturn in aspect to planets in the birth chart. [16:15] Saturn aspecting the Sun. The hard work of being your best self. [17:53] Saturn aspecting the Moon. Struggles bring emotional growth. [18:39] Saturn aspecting Mercury. Reconstruct past stories. Study an intimidating topic. [19:39] Saturn aspecting Venus. What makes you happy versus what you think you want. [20:29] Saturn aspecting Mars. The challenges of controlling your temper, impulsiveness, physical drives and ambitions. [21:24] Saturn aspecting Jupiter. Optimism could get squashed, but Saturn can help you make your big dreams come true. [22:14] Saturn aspecting Saturn. An evolution in personal ambitions, responsibilities and authority. [23:06] Saturn aspecting Uranus. Find a compromise between conformity and rebellious authenticity. [23:48] Saturn aspecting Neptune. How to face reality without despair! This aspect could be beneficial for creatives. [24:45] Saturn aspecting Pluto. Just keep on truckin' - there's empowerment to be found at the end of the road. [25:27] Saturn aspecting the Lunar Nodes. Life-changing success is possible when you stop taking the easy way out and move toward what more challenging path to satisfaction. [26:20] Saturn aspecting the Ascendant. Relocation is possible. Self-improvement routines could be established. Remember to not take on other people's burdens. [27:16] Saturn aspecting the Midheaven. Respect yourself; that will increase the likelihood of attracting respect from others. [28:03] Saturn aspecting Chiron. The Sabian symbol for the First Quarter Moon is 9 Gemini, A Quiver Filled With Arrows. This tells us that we have all the skills we need to at least make some start toward a new project. The Sun is on the Sabian symbol 9 Pisces, A jockey, so we're spurring ourselves onto greater heights and speed. [3:26] This First Quarter Moon is the first action point in the Lunar Gestation cycle that began at the New Moon on May 30, 2022. This is the opening action point in that cycle that will continue to unfold over the next two and a half years or so. [3:58] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon periods. On February 28, the Moon in Gemini trines Saturn in Aquarius (5:07 PM PST). It's VOC for only an hour and a half before it enters Cancer (6:40 PM PST). Take some time to talk things over with a knowledgeable mentor. [5:07] The Moon in Cancer opposes Pluto on March 5th (6:22 AM PST). It is VOC for just about one hour before it enters Leo (7:16 AM PST). Embrace your feelings in an unabashed manner! [6:09] On March 5th, the Moon in Leeeeeooooo opposes Saturn at (7:18 PM PST). You barely have time for a snack during this 20-minute VOC period before the Moon before it enters Virgo (7:38 PM PST). [7:16] Venus conjoins Jupiter at 12°08' Aries on March 1st (9:36 PM PST), on the Sabian symbol 13 Aries, An Unsuccessful Bomb Explosion. As we lead up to the exact aspect, expect a little frustration (Aries can be impatient)! But the house of your chart that contains 12°8' Aries describes the area of your life that is about to get an energetic, possibly lucky, boost from this conjunction. [9:55] Mercury makes a conjunction with Saturn on the anaretic degree of Aquarius (29°24') on March 2nd (6:34 AM PST).  This is on Sabian symbol 30 Aquarius, The field of Ardath in bloom. This is a beautiful Sabian symbol that suggests that what we have done while Mercury has been in Aquarius has been fruitful and pleasing. [11:09] Mercury enters Pisces on March 2nd (2:52 PM PST) and will be in this sensitive sign until March 18th (9:24 PM PST). While in Pisces, Mercury works best with less structure and with communication that is considerate. [13:19] Mini-Lesson: Saturn in Pisces through the Houses.  The House or Houses of your birth chart where this transit will take place indicates the areas of life that will offer the opportunity to set boundaries, show compassion, and take responsibility by literally doing something to make this world a better place. [14:58] Transiting Saturn in the 1st House. Be kind to yourself and do not take on burdens that belong to someone else. [16:23] Transiting Saturn in the 2nd House.  This transit can be about finding a career that's meaningful and making solid, long- range plans to improve your financial circumstances. Big Sky Astrology on Facebook | Instagram |  Twitter |  YouTube   Timestamps [1:05]  Moon Report! The New Moon in Pisces will occur on February 19, 2023 (11:06 PM PST).  New Moons in Pisces begin a 28-day cycle of new spiritual growth. This also begins a Lunar Gestation cycle that will unfold over the next 27 months. [1:57] The Lunar Gestation cycle was introduced by astrologer Dietrich Pessin – see this article from The Mountain Astrologer.  Also, much gratitude to Celeste Brooks of Astrology by Celeste for introducing the concept to April and Jen!  Check out Episode 141 for a recap.  [2:34] The Sabian symbol for this New Moon degree, 1°22' Pisces, is 2 Pisces, A squirrel hiding from hunters. Since this New Moon is just past a conjunction from Saturn, this lunation could be a story about hiding out from squirrely situations.  [3:42] The First Quarter Moon of this Lunar Gestation cycle will be on November 20, 2023.  The Full Moon will be on August 19, 2024 and the Last Quarter Moon on May 20, 2025.  Note that these lunation degrees in the gestation cycle actually come at the end of freedom-loving Aquarius and are therefore close enough to this 1°22' Pisces New Moon to be considered within this family. [5:20] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon Periods.  On February 21, the Moon in Pisces sextiles Pluto (8:05 pm PST). It's VOC for about one and one quarter hours before it enters Aries (9:14 PM). Sometimes your best squirrel strength comes from uniting with the big, bad bear of the forest. [6:13] The Moon in Aries squares Pluto on February 23rd at (11:22 PM PST) and is VOC for just a little over one hour. It then enters Taurus on February 24th (12:29 AM PST). Has your inner squirrel succeeded in cultivating strength or is it still relying on that bear for protection? [7:19] And finally, on February 26th, the Moon in Taurus trines Pluto (6:42 AM PST) and is VOC for just about one hour before entering Gemini (7:47 AM PST).  Our little squirrel friend is thankful for its powerful alliances but realizes that it can handle situations on their own!  [9:31] Mercury squares Uranus on February 21st (2:22 PM PST) at 15°19' of Aquarius and Taurus. Will your innovative ideas be rejected as a bit too radical? [10:55] On February 22nd (12:14 PM PST), Mercury trines Mars at 16°45' of Aquarius and Gemini. The Sabian symbol for Mercury is 17 Aquarius, A watchdog standing guard. And the Sabian symbol for Mars at 17 Gemini is A head of a robust youth changes into that of a mature thinker.  Defend those radical ideas and get to work on making those thoughts a reality. [12:15] Mini-lesson:  Saturn in Pisces.  Saturn will enter Pisces on March 7, 2023.   That big, bad bear of a planet, Pluto, will be dipping into Aquarius in March as well.    [13:02] Stay-tuned for mini-lessons on these two major transitions.  Episode 167 will cover Saturn in Pisces moving through the houses of the horoscope.  Episode 168 will take a quick look at Saturn in aspect to the other planets in a birth chart. [13:36] Important notes about Saturn: (1.) It takes about 29 years to make a complete circuit around the zodiac. (2.) Saturn changes signs about every two and a half years. (3.) It has been domiciled in Aquarius from March 21, 2020 to March 7, 2023 (4.) Saturn is going to be in Pisces through May 24th, 2025, spend a few months in Aries, and then retrograde back into Pisces one more time before leaving for good on February 13th, 2026. [14:18] Saturn transits are typically times of maturity, wisdom, discipline and boundaries.  Suggested reading:  April's book Astrological Transits.  [17:30] A Saturn in Aquarius recap. On February 13 (8:01 AM PST), a Last Quarter Moon at 24°40' Scorpio opposed Uranus, squares the Sun and Saturn. The Last Quarter Moon Phase is the moment in the lunar cycle for looking back and assessing our progress since the previous New Moon (January 21st at 1°32' Aquarius). [2:39] This is also the Last Quarter in a Lunar Phase Family that began with the Scorpio New Moon on November 14, 2020. That New Moon was sextile a triple conjunction of Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto in Capricorn. What old patterns have you been working hard to break free from? [4:14] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon Periods. The Moon in Scorpio sextiles Pluto in Capricorn on February 13 (3:52 PM PST). The Moon is VOC for about an hour and a half before entering Sagittarius (5:31 PM PST).  Here is an opportunity to clear the emotional air and to release some grudges, negativity, and lack of trust. [5:20] On February 15 (5:06 PM PST), the Moon in Sagittarius sextiles Saturn in Aquarius. It's VOC for about four hours and enters Capricorn at 9:00 PM PST. Time to bring a bit of structure and form to those enthusiastically expansive dreams. [6:09] The Moon in Capricorn conjoins Pluto on February 17 (8:18 PM PST). It's VOC for about an hour and fifteen minutes before entering Aquarius (9:35 PM PST). This VOC period could be a more intense follow up to the Moon's sextile to Pluto on February 13th, when there was an opportunity to release emotional negativity. [7:25] The Moon in Aquarius conjoins Saturn on February 19 (6:00 PM PST) and is VOC for about three hours before it enters Pisces (8:56 PM PST). Preoccupied by thoughts about future goals, it may be difficult to be emotionally present. [9:00] On February 15 (4:25 AM PST), exalted Venus makes a conjunction with domiciled Neptune at 24°04' Pisces, on the Sabian symbol, 25 Pisces, The purging of the priesthood. This romantic aspect influences Valentine's Day even though it's exact on the following day. [10:28] Rose-colored glasses are part of Venus-Neptune's wardrobe, but check false, unhealthy ideals at the door of this party. Solo or partnered, this could be an opportunity to fall in love with the reality of the life you are building. [11:41] The Sun makes its annual conjunction to Saturn on February 16 (8:48 AM PST) at 27°44' Aquarius. This sobering aspect will be present alongside the Venus-Neptune conjunction on Valentine's Day as well. The Sabian symbol for 28 Aquarius is A tree felled and sawed. This symbol and aspect, speak of the kind of pragmatism it takes for the times when a dreaded action needs to be taken for practical reasons. [13:52] On February 18 (2:34 PM PST), the Sun enters Pisces (through March 20th). The nature of Pisces is mutable, flexible, and goes with the flow. Pisces is also a water sign and water represents the inner life.  The double-edged sword of idealism is the spark that initiates creative juices during Pisces season. Be sure to tune into the upcoming episodes of the podcast, when April will discuss Saturn in Pisces through the houses of a the chart and in aspect to natal planets! [16:43] Venus enters Aries on February 19 (11:56 PM PST, through March 16).  Venus in the sign of Aries enjoys moving fast and challenging itself.  So, let's get physical! It's time to get out there and begin showing our joyful, creative Uranian selves, but don't forget those Saturnian boundaries. [16:47] Void-of-Course Moon periods (VOC). On February 1, the Moon in Gemini makes a trine aspect to Saturn at 3:58 AM PST. It's VOC for a little over 8 hours (!!!) before it enters Cancer at 12:11 PM. Let your Gemini hummingbird sit still for a minute and think about what is important enough to make permanent. [18:58] On February 3, the Moon in Cancer makes an opposition to Pluto at 10:19 PM Pacific Time. It's VOC for just about two and a half hours before it enters Leeeeeoooooo on February 4 at 00:48 AM Pacific Time. Be humble, do some journaling, and don't take on other people's stuff. [21:06] Listener April (really!) asks a question about the difference between the Sun and the Rising Sign of a birth chart. They may seem interchangeable, but they do very different work! The New Moon in Aquarius (Jan. 21 at 12:53 PM PST at 1°32' Aquarius) is on the Sabian symbol, 2 Aquarius, An unexpected thunderstorm. Mercury's extended stay in Capricorn is due to its retrograde period (Dec. 29, 2022-Jan. 18, 2023). Use Capricorn's steadfast focus on a project that you've been wanting to complete, but leave room for variations to occur.  [3:43] Moon Report! The Gemini Full Moon is on December 7th at 8:08 pm PST, at 16°01' Gemini. This Full Moon illuminates the intentions we may have set during the New Moon at 9° Gemini on May 30, 2022. This is an important point in the Sun-Mars cycle that began with their conjunction in October of 2021. Take note of the changes you've seen and lessons you have learned. [14:16]  On December 9th, Venus (Sagittarius 29°12') squares Jupiter in Pisces at 4:55 am PST.  Later that day, Venus enters Capricorn at 7:54 pm PST, echoing Mercury's transits from earlier in the week. What can you create during this last month of 2022 to leave this year feeling happier and better prepared for 2023? The result is a Grand Cross configuration, and since the fixed signs are involved, you may notice that people are a little more entrenched in their position than usual. [2:39] This Last Quarter Moon also sextiles retrograde Mars in Gemini. Look for a helpful person from the past to appear just when you need them! [3:12] The Sabian symbols for this Last Quarter Moon are 25 Leo, A large camel crossing the desert and the Sun on 25 Scorpio, An X-ray.  We are seeing things the way they are instead of the way we would like them to be. This is tough but could lead to greater emotional self-reliance. [5:30] This is the last critical moment in a Lunar Phase Family Cycle that began at the August 2020 New Moon in Leo. Here's an opportunity to make one final push towards a passion project that was initiated at that New Moon. [6:09] Void-of-Course Moon (VOC) periods. On Nov. 14 (2:41 am PST), the Moon trines Jupiter (28°57' Cancer and Pisces).  It's VOC for about five hours before entering Leo at 7:43 am PST. A lovely time for setting a bedtime intention about family adventures, drafting plans to expand or improve your home, or even move someplace new. [7:15] The Moon in Leo squares Mercury (29°25' Leo and Scorpio) at 3:55 pm PST on Nov. 16 and is VOC for just over one hour before entering Virgo (5:03 pm PST). That x-ray vision, Scorpionic Mercury might bring up some negative feedback about a creative project. Leave it to the Moon in Virgo to make things right. [8:12] On Nov. 19 (12:47 am PST), the Moon in 28°50' Virgo opposes Jupiter in Pisces. It's VOC for a little over two hours and enters Libra at 2:57 am PST. If you're a night owl or are across the Atlantic from North America, ponder this call to adventure. [9:50] As the Sun and Mars aspect Neptune, Neptune will be on the Sabian symbol 23 Pisces, A materializing medium aka Spiritist Phenomena - an ethereal degree for an ethereal planet. [10:18] The Sun trines Neptune (Pisces 22°44' Scorpio and Pisces) on Nov. 14th at 7:43 pm PST, on the Sabian symbol 23 Scorpio, A bunny metamorphosed into a fairy.  It's the time of year for magical transformations.  [11:33] Mars squares Neptune (22°42' Gemini and Pisces) on Nov. 19 at 7:43 am PST. This is the second of three squares (the others on Oct. 11, 2022 and March 14, 2023) while Mars is in its extended transit through Gemini. It's time to defend what you have faith in. [12:37] Mercury sextiles Pluto (Nov. 14, 6:27 pm PST) at 26°27' Scorpio and Capricorn. Mercury's Sabian symbol is 27 Scorpio, A military band on the march and Pluto, as usual, is on 27 Capricorn, A mountain pilgrimage. So, as the Sun enjoys its Neptunian spa day, Mercury will be practicing power handshakes with Pluto. [13:50] On Nov. 18 at 1:43 pm PST, the Sun sextiles Pluto (26°31' Scorpio and Capricorn). It's time to get real and empower yourself. [14:43] The Sun, Mercury and Venus all trine Jupiter in Pisces this week. Venus (28°55' Scorpio) is the first in line on Nov. 15 at 1:36 am PST. [15:28] Mercury (28°53' Scorpio) follows suit on Nov. 16 at 7:43 am PST. Look for a financial advisor to help you manage your Jupiter windfall! [16:02] The Sun (28°48' Scorpio) seals this Jupiterian deal on Nov. 20 at 8:07 pm PST. [16:45] Last but not least, Mercury and Venus enter Sagittarius this week. Venus enters the sign of the Archer first on Nov. 15 at 10:08 pm PST, followed by Mercury on Nov. 17 at 12:42 am PST. Order some Thai takeout and cue up those foreign language comedies on Netflix. Timestamps [1:26]  Venus (Scorpio 18°47') squares Saturn (Aquarius 18°47') on Nov. 6, 2022 at 11:33 pm PST.  Expect to work a little harder to get what you want. [3:52] Election Day in the U.S. coincides with a Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse (Nov. 8, 2022, 3:02 am PST, at 16°01' Taurus) on the Sabian symbol 17 Taurus: A symbolic battle between swords and torches.  The Moon is in an exact conjunction with Uranus, opposed the Sun, Venus, and Mercury in Scorpio, and all of them square Saturn in Aquarius. This is the molecular opposite of "chill." [7:10] The release point for this fixed T-Square is in Leo. Creativity, play, and focusing on your own pursuits are great coping mechanisms for any intensity you may experience. [8:09] Check out Episode 151 for insights into eclipses in the Houses of the Horoscope and aspects to natal planets (use conjunction, square, or opposition within  4° orb). How is your chart affected? Then, look to previous eclipses near 16º Taurus - most recently: May 10, 2013 (Solar eclipse, 19°Taurus), Nov. 9, 2003 (Lunar Eclipse, 16°Taurus), May 10, 1994 (Solar Eclipse, 19°48' Taurus), and Nov. 8, 1984 (Lunar Eclipse, 16°30' Taurus). How do important themes and events in these years relate to the present day? [10:02] Check out April's essays about eclipses, and order one of her Followed by a Moonshadow reports - it'll do all of the astrological work for you. Journaling prompts are included! [10:20] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon periods for this week. Upbeat Jupiter has the final say right now! [10:54] On Nov. 9th (4:00 am PST), the Moon (Taurus 29°09') sextiles Jupiter (Pisces 29°09') and then is VOC for a little over an hour before entering Gemini (5:37 am PST).  Stability and resources are available to support a big vision. [11:49] The Moon at 29°02' Gemini squares Jupiter on Nov. 11th (2:28 pm PST).  It's VOC for just under two hours before entering Cancer at 4:22 pm PST. A terrific time to capture your big ideas in writing. [12:50] The Sun and Mercury (Scorpio 16°15') make their superior conjunction on Nov. 8 (8:43 am PST).  Mercury opposes Uranus at 16°55' Taurus later that day (6:40 pm PST).  Since this is Election Day in the U.S., we could experience some unexpected voting or vote counting issues (though is that really unexpected at this point?). [14:10] The Sun (Scorpio 16°54') opposes Uranus (Taurus 16°54'0) on Nov. 9 (12:26 am PST). This is an opportunity to free ourselves not just from the expectations of other people but also from our own ideas of who we are and who we have to be.  See if you can connect the dots to the conjunction (May 2022) and square (August 2022) in this Sun-Uranus cycle. [15:19] Mercury (Scorpio 18°52') squares Saturn (Aquarius 18°52') on Nov. 10 (11:51 pm PST). All things Mercury are going to take more determination and effort.  Just keep working hard and success will be yours! [16:42] The Sun (Scorpio 18°54') squares Saturn (Aquarius 18°54') on Nov. 11 (12:04 am PST).  This aspect is like trying to grow something, (aka you!) in very hard, compacted soil.  You could feel exhausted and pessimistic, but don't give up! [18:30] Venus (22°47' Scorpio) trines Neptune (22°47' Pisces) on Nov. 10 (4:22 am PST).  Mercury (22°46' Scorpio) trines Neptune (22°46' Pisces) on Nov. 12 at 10:36 am PST. The Sabian symbol for Mercury and Venus at 23 Scorpio is A bunny metamorphosed into a fairy, and Neptune is on 23 Pisces, Spiritist Phenomena which we sometimes see written as A materializing medium. Both symbols speak about transformation on a spiritual level. [21:06] Finally, on Nov. 13 at 1:41 am PST, Venus (Scorpio 26°25') sextiles Pluto (Capricorn 26°25').  Venus squared Pluto on October 19, 2022, and they will meet in a conjunction on December 31, 2022. Venus is on the Sabian symbol 27 Scorpio, A military band on the march, and Pluto is on 27 Capricorn, A mountain pilgrimage.  Time to put assemble a team, put on a snappy outfit, and start marching towards a lofty goal. [22:22] A Big Sky Astrology favorite, listener Elliott, asks about how planetary retrograde periods might feel to someone who has a lot of retrograde planets in their birth chart. Plus, everyone who donated $10 or more will get access to April's bonus episodes for the Equinoxes and Solstices, beginning with the September 22nd Libra Equinox. [3:10] Venus (Virgo 18°37') trines Uranus (Taurus 18°37') on September 19th at 9:44 pm PDT. Possible unexpected financial windfall or asset appreciation. Welcome the unexpected in your daily life. [4:39] The Sun enters Libra on September 22nd at 6:04 pm PDT. This ingress marks the Autumnal Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the Vernal Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere. The Equinoxes are the two days out of the year when night and day are equal in length. So very Libran! [5:49] What do we initiate at the Libra Equinox? Harvest time! [7:11] Libra is ruled by Venus, which is still in Virgo. Our motto for this Sun in Libra season: everything needn't be perfect for it to be perfectly good. [8:16] Also on September 22nd, Mercury makes its inferior conjunction to the Sun at 11:50 pm PDT at Libra 0°14' on the Sabian symbol 1 Libra, A butterfly made perfect by a dart through it. [9:16] While the conjunction is exact, Mercury is cazimi, particularly powerful. Look for some much-needed clarity in the realm of Mercury (communications, thinking, commerce, short-distance travel, etc.) [10:15] Retrograde Mercury will re-enter Virgo on September 23rd at 5:04 AM PDT, in a neighborhood it last visited August 21 - 26, 2022. Mercury stations direct on October 2nd and re-enters Libra on October 10th. [11:32] Venus opposes Neptune on September 24th at 1:51 AM PDT at 23°49' of Virgo and Pisces. The Sabian symbol for Venus is 24 Virgo, Mary and her white lamb. The Sabian symbol for Neptune is 24 Pisces, An inhabited island -  also the degree of the April 12 Jupiter-Neptune conjunction. Sharing is caring! [13:20] Moon Report for the week of September 19th. The Libra New Moon is on September 25th at 2:54 PM PDT at Libra 2°48' and the  Sabian symbol 3 Libra, The dawn of a new day, everything changed. This Sun and Moon opposed Jupiter in Aries lends an uplifting note to the change. [15:54] This Libra New Moon initiates a 27- month cycle (Check out April's conversation with Celeste Brooks about the Lunar Phase Family Cycle in Episode 141!) Important dates in this cycle are: First Quarter Moon on June 26th, 2023; the Full Moon on March 25, 2024; and the Third Quarter Moon on December 20, 2024. [17:32] Void-of-Course Moon periods for this week. On Sept. 20, the Moon in Cancer will sextile the Sun in Virgo at 8:57 AM PDT then go Void-of-Course for almost five hours before entering Leo at 1:38 PM PDT. Positive work-related opportunities and a good time to initiate beneficial health or diet habits. [19:43] On September 22nd, the Moon in Leo opposes Saturn in Aquarius at 4:07 AM PDT. This Void-of-Course period will last for almost 21 hours (!!!) before entering Virgo on September 23rd at 12:53 AM PDT. Cultivate emotional self-sufficiency and confidence.. [21:26] The Moon in Virgo conjuncts Mercury at 5:49 AM PDT on September 25th and is VOC for about four hours before entering Libra at 9:43 AM PDT. A time to gain clarity about ourselves in preparation for the New Moon in Libra later that day. [22:55] At 10:46 PM PDT on September 25, Venus (Virgo 26°9') will trine Pluto (Capricorn 26°9'). Venus in on the Sabian symbol 27 Virgo, Grand dames at tea. Pluto is on 27 Capricorn, A mountain pilgrimage. [25:14] Listener Ann asks about the anaretic degree of 29°. [1:30] Thank you to everyone who's supported the show in the past twelve months, with donations, downloads, and kind feedback! Shout-out to Jen Braun, who brought so much spirit and hard work to our episodes in the first months of this Podcast year (September-January). [4:38] Here are a few easy free ways that you can really help the podcast.  [6:00] Mercury turns retrograde today at 8:38 pm and is retrograde through October 1. [8:55] This retrograde Mercury rules Mars in Gemini, which will also turn retrograde at the end of October – so both of these planets are probably feeling quite unstable. [10:05] Today the Moon is in Pisces, opposes Venus at 6:39 am and square Mars at 4:08 pm Pacific time. [10:26] The Moon opposes Venus in Virgo at 6:39 am and squares Mars at 4:08 pm. Gather your thoughts. Slow down and rest. [11:20] When you get too busy, clear your head with Pisces-ruled things, like music, meditation, or relaxing with a pet. [12:05] April welcomes Simone Butler, a San Diego-based expert astrologer with more than 30 years of experience helping people find their purpose and passion. She has written for The Mountain Astrologer, Starscroll and Tarot.com, and has been interviewed on many podcasts. Her books include Astro Feng Shui: Making Magic in Your Home and Life, Moon Power: Lunar Rituals for Connecting with your Inner Goddess, and Ten-Minute Moon Rituals: Easy Tips for Working with Each Astrological Sign to Develop Your True Lunar Nature. You can read Simone's bi-monthly blogs and/or book a reading at www.astroalchemy.com. [13:20] Lunar ritual for a New Moon vs. a Full Moon? [19:30] Full Moons are connected to relationships because the Sun and Moon in opposite signs have the potential to bring balance. [20:00] Acknowledge the upcoming Pisces Full Moon, “The Wine Moon” or Harvest Moon, with a glass of wine and a gathering of friends. But watch out for the Moon conjunct Neptune! [22:50] The Full Moon connects with the last New Moon in that sign, about six months earlier. [23:20] April loves Simone's Astro Feng Shui system, which combines western astrology with the bagua map. Simone describes how you can use it to enhance your New Moon rituals. [25:50] Working with the recent Virgo New Moon and the Pisces Full Moon using this system. The Moon is then Void-of-Course for the entire day before entering Pisces at 9:42 am PDT. [10:18] Let's welcome Dublin-based, consulting and teaching astrologer and therapist Margaret Gray to the show!   [11:28] What does the symbolism of the Moon say about areas of compatibility or conflict between two people, both from an astrological and a psychological point of view? [18:35] What if there is a shortfall in that emotional understanding of the Moon? That's where Mercury comes in. Mercury is how we communicate and listen to the lunar realm, the pre-verbal feelings. [20:19] What if a couple has two very different Moon signs? What sort of astrological and maybe psychological tools would Margaret offer for working out their differences?  What about Venus, Mars or Saturn? [24:53] Emotional intelligence = Moon and Mercury. Emotional intelligence is that ability to regulate ourselves, to be comfortable, to be aware of our emotions, to have that ability to empathize with others and to be able to communicate effectively. [27:31] Margaret has two live, online, recorded courses coming up in October: Psychological Astrology, a collaboration with Psychotherapist, Psychoanalyst, and Astrologer Yvonne Smith Tarnas; and The Astrology of Love and Relationships with Margaret, Yvonne, Kay Taylor, Rachel Lang and Armand Diaz.  All the information is at www.relationshipsandastrology.com [28:37] Two diversity scholarships are being offered for each course, plus discounts for members of the main astrological organizations.  Don't miss the early bird deadline! April shares some ways to help the show for free! [5:04] Podathon week gives April time to give the Moon a little extra attention. The day's Moon sign describes the tempo and pace of the day and the way we cope with things emotionally. [5:35] Today, the Moon finishes up its journey through Capricorn with a trine aspect to Uranus (in Taurus) at 2:23 am PDT; a sextile to Neptune (in Pisces) at 11:21 am PDT and a conjunction to Pluto (in Capricorn) at 2:43 pm PDT. The Moon will then be Void-of Course for six hours before entering Aquarius at 8:41 pm PDT. This morning could provide a helpful environment for adapting to change, especially in your work and career plans. Try giving in a little bit more to your intuition. The Void-of-Course Moon aspect to Pluto can be more challenging emotionally, but it could also be an excellent time to examine routines that may need to reworked. More about the Aquarius Moon tomorrow! [7:02] Today's Big Sky Astrology's guest is Maressa Brown! Maressa is a journalist, author and astrologer with nearly two decades of professional experience with writing, reporting and editing lifestyle content.  If you've read an astrology-related article in Parents Magazine, In Style Magazine or Shape, it was almost certainly written by Maressa.  She is based in Los Angeles and her first book, Raising Baby by the Stars:  A New Parent's Guide to Astrology, will be published by Artisan Books in February 2023. [8:04] What does your Moon sign say about your parenting style? Maressa is a proud Moon in Virgo cat mama! [9:04] Maressa shares insights gleaned from her kitty parenting style and from observing friends and family members who have welcomed little ones in this world. Your Moon sign can indicate how you nurture and want to be nurtured. You can use your Moon and your child's Moon to understand the give-and-take of this nurturing relationship. [9:58] With her Moon in early Virgo, Maressa feels like she's very cerebral but also thoughtful and sensitive to detail. Acts of service, such as helping and researching health topics (very sixth house!), are very much a part of her nurturing style. [10:52] April's Moon in Virgo mom advised little April to clean out a drawer when she got upset. It was all about focusing on the here and now. [11:34] How can a parent really think about the child's Moon sign to help them understand their moods or their needs?  Maressa explains how a child's Moon can be thought of as the emotional compass. Their Venus sign can show how a child relates to others. Maressa's book goes into much more details with these topics. [12:40] For example: A Moon in Libra (ruled by Venus) child might feel very nurtured by beautiful surroundings and indulging in all things artistic. Caring, nurturing and security are some Moon keywords, and the Moon's sign in your chart describes how you will perform those functions. [13:24] An Aries Moon baby may love connecting over high energy activities, including competition or even arguing! Aries thrives on being somewhat unsafe, doing new things and pioneering new trails. If that sounds like a weird mix with the security-loving Moon, well, people contain multitudes and can be contradictory, and this can be seen in the birth chart. [14:47] In Maressa's book, parenting experts offer tips on how to hold space for and nurture Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable signs. [15:48] What about the whole process of conception, pregnancy, bringing a new child in to the family?  What might the Moon tell us about that? [18:24] Not only is Maressa coming out with a book and planning a wedding, she's also writing the fall astrological guide and monthly horoscopes for InStyle Magazine! Look for it on Apple News. The upcoming Equinox, Mercury retrograde and eclipses will be covered. Get ready to hit the reset button this fall! [21:39] Sign up for Maressa's mailing list at her website to receive updates about her book and other projects. Her book Raising Baby by the Stars: A New Parents' Guide to Astrology  will be released in February 2023, but it's available for pre-order now. [5:56] During the Podathon, April is giving the Moon a little bit more attention. [6:13] Today's Moon is in Capricorn. Capricorn Moon days are excellent for initiating projects, especially ones that you expect to take a while to complete. This Capricorn Moon will square Jupiter in Aries at 5:44 am PDT, which could brighten things up a bit, and square Mercury in Libra at 8:21 am PDT, which could make this Saturn-ruled Moon a little chattier than usual. [7:45] "And now for something completely different" - the Big Sky Astrology Podcast's very first, very special guest, the lovely and talented Mel LaFara of the Energetic Principles Podcast!  [10:16] What's up with debilitated Moons? The Moon in Capricorn is considered to be in its detriment. The Capricorn Moon is actually the farthest in its position from where the Moon is at home, Cancer. [12:22] Another troublesome Moon: the Scorpio Moon. A Moon in Mars-ruled Scorpio is in a position of fall, sometimes called "depression." This is due to the Moon in Scorpio being in an opposing position from Taurus, where it's exalted. [14:01] How does Mel use her own natal Capricorn (Saturn-ruled) Moon in opposition to her (Moon-ruled) Sun in Cancer? [16:58]  Are planets in their detriment or fall more accentuated in our personalities because we have to work so hard to express them? Are these possibly superpowers?!?! [19:05]  Notorious Saturn, lord of maturation, boundaries, and bummers. [20:22] Goats will eat anything! Some practical advice for making the most of a Moon in Capricorn or Scorpio. This opposition might shed light on some of the decisions you've made regarding your relationships, with Venus offering a gentler perspective of last winter's Venus/Pluto conjunctions. [3:27] The Sun squares the North Node on August 10, reaching the midpoint between eclipse seasons and urging the release of emotional baggage. It  then squares Uranus on August 11th, on the now-familiar Sabian symbol A newly formed continent. Liberate yourself from old ideas about who you are or have to be. [6:40] August 11th is a busy day! Venus enters *Leeeeeeoooooo*, where it celebrates playful pursuits and colorful costumes through September 4th. [7:42] Also on August 11th, Mars makes a sextile to Neptune, with Mars on the Sabian symbol 25 Taurus, A Large Well Kept Public Park - which likes things orderly, at least in public -  and Neptune on the Sabian symbol 25 degrees Pisces, The purging of the priesthood. Sincerity triumphs over all; use this conjunction to work towards something that's really meaningful to you. [9:40] It's the Mooooooooon report! The Aquarius Full Moon on (what else?) August 11th brings revelations related to three different lunar cycles - including that Feb. 2021 Aquarius New Moon with six planets in the sign of the waterbearer! The Full Moon's Sabian symbol speaks of peace, but it won't come without an effort: both the Sun and Moon are in aspect to Saturn. From here, you can see how far you've come in taking responsibility for your life, and how far there is yet to go. [20:50] Also on August 14th, there's a nice easy trine between Mars and Pluto, which can bring your ventures to the attention of powerful people. [17:03] Mercury makes its superior conjunction with the Sun on July 16. This is the moment in Mercury's cycle when it's caught up with the Sun after its recent retrograde period, and before it goes moving off ahead of the Sun. Catch up with yourself during this moment when your thoughts are better aligned with who you are and what you want to show the world! [19:12] On July 17, Mercury and the Sun both make trine aspects to Neptune, one of the sweetest, sleepiest times of the year for the Sun. The Sabian Symbol for the conjunction is 26 Cancer: “Content and happiness in luxury, people reading on davenports.” Sneak away for some rest, relaxation, and restoration between July 16-18. Neptune's Sabian symbol is “A new moon reveals that it's time for people to go ahead with their different projects.” So nail down a little alone time for yourself this weekend, too. [21:21] Venus enters Cancer on July 17 (through Aug. 11). Venus symbolizes what we love, what makes us feel good, and what we feel like spending money on. With summer travel causing a lot of headaches and expense, consider spending some money closer to home on feathering your nest, supporting local restaurants, and springing for some new toys for your pet! [23:14] A question from listener Asher: The Solar Return chart is important, yes, but how about the times of the year that the transiting Sun makes other aspects to one's natal Sun? Here's April's advice. [29:15] Want to submit a question for a future episode? Go here to leave a voice message, or email April! This week, zippy Mars enters Taurus, which moves at a much more... deliberate pace than Mars prefers. Although your progress might be slower and frustration a little higher, this is a good transit for tackling projects that require patience and consistency. Mercury enters Cancer on July 4; hold your cards close to your chest, and trust your instincts. The Libra Last Quarter Moon leads us along circular paths on a full stomach. The Sun's sextile to Uranus suggests changing direction if you're on a road that doesn't suit you. And listener Marya asks, how do astrologers keep track of all those looooong planetary cycles? Plus: Staying power, no guarantees, and April - a Leo - struggling with decisions?! These two are not the most comfortable fit, as Taurus slows Mars down and Mars aggravates the bull; but the natural consistency of Taurus offers sticking power for new good habits or positive changes. [3:54] Mercury enters Cancer on July 4th. While the communication planet is in this sign (through through July 19), listen to your gut instincts. You might be more protective of your thoughts and cautious with your words than usual and find your thoughts turning to matters of family, home, food, and security. [6:14] Mooooooooooon report! April unpacks the Sabian symbols of the Sun and Moon at the Libra Quarter Moon (July 6, 7:14 pm PDT). The Moon is on the Sabian symbol 15 Libra: Circular paths, and the Sun is on 15 Cancer, A group of people who have overeaten and enjoyed it. Ate too much at your July 4 picnic? Take a lap! [10:25] The Void-of-Course Moon periods for this week all begin on lunar aspects to Pluto. Use them to change habits, review behaviors, and employ the power of suggestion with one simple phrase. [14:23] Mercury's square aspect to Jupiter on July 6th: It's time to make a decision on whatever you were thinking about during the recent series of sextile aspects between these two planets (April 26, May 19, and June 20). Follow your gut and take action, even though the outcome is uncertain! [16:57] A sextile aspect between the Sun and Uranus, with the Sun on the Sabian symbol 19 Cancer, A Priest Performing a Marriage Ceremony and Uranus on 19 Taurus, A Newly Formed Continent. Is it time to free yourself from a situation that isn't true to who you are and try something new? [18:45] A question from listener Marya: How do you determine the opening and closing squares, and oppositions, of long planetary periods? Here's my previous mini-lesson on planetary cycles. You'll find a 9,000-year ephemeris on Astro.com. And here is Kepler College's article on the Synodic cycle! [25:29] Want to submit a question for a future episode? April walks you through a busy astrological week, featuring the April 12 conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune. This comparatively rare conjunction occurs about once every 13 years. Jupiter and Neptune are both connected with voyages, transformation, and realizing dreams, but with these big changes can come a sense of loss and a need to let go of the past to make room for the future. April helps you to decrypt the Sabian symbol for this conjunction, “An Inhabited Isle,” and shares a personal story of a big life change that she experienced during a previous Jupiter-Neptune conjunction. April then turns to the sextile aspect between the Sun and Saturn, which falls on one of her personal favorite Sabian symbols, a dreamy image of a breeze drifting in through an open window, blowing a net curtain softly into a cornucopia. This is a time for you to take a step back from the demands of your life and to meditate on your Jupiter journey. And as Mars the go-getter enters sympathetic Pisces, it's time to take action on the things that matter to you and will help improve the world. Blissfully wedded invisible friends Maria and Bret introduce the Moon Report with a melodious rendition of the old Moonwatch theme. April's advice is to choose a focal point for sorting out, such as a cupboard or a small closet - a manageable project that won't overload your Mercury mind. Mercury enters dreamy Pisces this week, and it's one of the more difficult signs for the planet of information and communication. Pisces doesn't favor straightforward sharing of knowledge, but this doesn't mean that you'll be missing out on vital messages. They could still come to you but in more mysterious ways, through dreams or poems for example. If you want to make the most of this particular Mercury, don't schedule important meetings or major updates on your computer. Instead, try to get in touch with your inner poet and leave space for daydreaming, creativity, and fantasy. As the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces is associated with endings – so now is a great time to ask yourself: “where am I being called to lighten the load?” Building on the theme of reflection and retreat, the Sun-Uranus sextile aspect is an opportunity to integrate and share insights from last month's breakthroughs. Use this as a chance to liberate yourself from who you think you have to be, and to align your persona with your authentic self. Ask yourself: What am I projecting out in the world that is no longer true to who I am inside? Plus: a new Mars-Pluto cycle, Kelly Clarkson's name change, and a juicy listener question about death, suspicion, and hedonism. Note: This episode was recorded before the events in Ukraine, and our hopes for peace and safety go out to the people of Ukraine and our friends in the region. This week, one of the year's biggest events in astrology: the United States Pluto return! This is the first time that Pluto will have completed a full orbit since the founding of the United States. While some may think that this spells the end of the international dominance of the States, it's actually more of a sign of transformation rather than a definitive ending. We may expect to see dramatic shifts in political and economic power, and a change in how we use our natural resources. There are several important dates on the calendar for this particular Pluto return, so stay tuned for further developments. Later in the episode, April walks you through the Sagittarius Last Quarter Moon and this week's void-of-course Moon periods; Venus and Mars check in with Neptune; and an innovative but tech-tickling Mercury-Uranus square. Finally, April answers a listener question about the role of sect in your birth chart!  Registration is open through Feb. 21 for April's Fundamental of Forecasting course - classes begin Feb. 26, 2022!
