Skylar Rogers was born and raised in some of Chicago's toughest neighborhoods. She learned at an early age that music brought people together and grew up listening to music her mother (a singer herself) was listening or singing to. This upbringing laid the groundwork, giving Skylar the drive and passion to explore a career in music. Skylar's "Soul Rockin' Blues" sound has been influenced by Tina Turner, Etta James, Billy Joel, and Koko Taylor. Throw in a bit of AC/DC and multiple Motown artists and you have the unique, strong, passionate and energetic Skylar Rogers. Music and faith were primary sources of strength and inspiration for Skylar through not only the bad times (abusive relationships, the stillbirth of her child, and a brief period of homelessness following a divorce), but also the best of times (meeting, dating and marrying her second husband, and sharing precious time with her family and friends.) "I have learned that during these times, there was a song for every emotion. Music survives the worst, and celebrates the best."Skylar successfully launched her debut EP, "Insecurities” and began touring nationally in 2019, including performances at St Louis' National Blues Museum and Beale Street in Memphis. She was personally invited by Kevin Burt to perform in the All Star Blues Jam at Las Vegas' Big Blues Bender in 2019. We begin with a visit from Couch Kids Stolen Hearts to share their new single with us. Pam Taylor & Robert Johnson, Jr. will talk about the new single and what is to come. Spencer Mackenzie has been performing in the Southern Ontario region for a number of years. In 2013 he came to Memphis for the IBC Youth Showcase. He has released his debut album, Infected By The Blues, and Spencer and I will talk about the music and where he is headed. OH, did I mention, Spencer is ONLY 16! Mark May has released his 6th album entitled Blues Heaven. It is the guitarists’ debut on the Conner Ray Music label. After spending time with Dickey Betts & Great Southern, May is out sharing his unique guitar skills with audiences from coast to coast. Mark and I will talk about his career and the new music. Clint Morgan released his debut in 2008. His sophomore effort, Scofflaw, was released on June 17th and Clint will come sit on The Couch and talk about his career, how the Blues found him, his mentoring at the Pinetop Perkins Foundation Workshops and, of course, the new album and music. The guys from Little Boys Blue have a new album out entitled Tennissippi. Released back in May on Vizztone, I will finally have a chance to sit with JD and talk about the new music from this fine band.

SHOW # 266 - Live, Uncut & Uncensored Conversations With "Musicians You Should Know" Brad Absher is out of Houston, Texas and he and his band, Swamp Royale, have been a fixture on the Gulf Coast for over 20 years and he has appeared at the IBC getting to the finals. His new album is entitled Lucky Dog and Brad and I will explore his musical journey and speak about the album and where the band is headed next. I got to meet Amanda Fish at the IBC this past January. She was in town to just meet people, play a little and let people know about her new album, Down In The Dirt. She actually gave me a self-burned copy of the master of the album when we chatted On The Couch. I knew I had to bring her onto a Monday show and show some love, because the album is great. In March, Vizztone picked her up, so if you don’t know about Samantha’s big sister now, you will soon! And this is also the first set of siblings we have had on the show! Hank Mowery first sat on The Couch back in October of 2013. He is back on a Couch Kid New Music Segment for his new release Excuses Plenty and we will talk about what Hank and The Hawktones have been up to since we last spoke and share this hot off the presses release with you. Back in July of 2014, Peter Novelli came and sat On The Couch for a Couch Kid New Music Segment and shared PRE-MASTERS for his upcoming album, St. Amant Sessions. Well, the album is finally done and Peter had his CD Release in the Dominican Republic last week and this week we get to share the finished product and maybe even compare a song or two from back in July!
