Notes: Meg tells us where she goes "to integrate, to reorient around what matters most to me, and connect with the world around me and that sense of source within myself." We talk about "the good, the beautiful, and the true," and she doesn't shy away from the awkward questions I have about those words in today's world. Meg and her two children, Clancy and Celia, teach us "What Would It Take?" with its intertwining harmonies, and then later we talk about the experience of singing in harmonies and how it connects to boundarys and group awareness. Meg says, “My pathway with the voice…is about repeatedly coming back into connection with myself…and the possibility of joy.” Songwriter Info: Meg loves helping people access their innate capacity for healing, connection, and joy. She is a somatic coach, supporting individuals and couples in growth, transformation, and healing. Because she's always found the voice, and especially singing in harmony with others, to be a particularly powerful pathway for connection with ourselves and the world around us, she delights in serving as a music teacher, song leader, and vocal mentor. In addition, Meg is an Adjunct Professor for Antioch University's Graduate Program for Waldorf Teachers and for the Center for Anthroposophy's Waldorf High School Teacher Education Program. December 14, 2023 Everything Co-op continues to feature finalist from its Inaugural 2023 Holiday List, a thoughtfully curated list of products and services from the cooperative community. In this 3rd installment, Vernon will introduces his listeners to two of his picks for the "Body" & "Community". Nate Chittenden, Member/Owner at Cabot Creamery Cooperative, discusses the whole process of how the concept of "Farm-to-Table" plays out within his family farm, and other farmers, who are a part of Cabot; and Danielle Robidoux, organizer with Equal Exchange gives an inside account of how worker-owners fit within the structure of Equal Exchange, and the benefits being passed on to consumers. Nate Chittenden grew up with a passion for cows, farming and family. He comanages the family's 1,980-acre Dutch Hollow Farm in Shodack Landing, New York, with his parents and brothers. With about 1,500 cows, there is always plenty to do on the farm. Dutch Hollow welcomes thousands of visitors each year from schools, pre-schools, youth groups, 4-H clubs, high school science classes and college veterinary classes. Nate has held leadership positions on the board of Agri-Mark Young Cooperators, is a member of the Farmer Advisory Council for F.A.R.M., and has been a local 4-H dairy leader for more than 20 years. His efforts have helped strengthen his community, promote family farming and inspire the next generation of dairy farmers. Nate was recently honored with the inaugural Cornell University Hometown Alumni Award. The award honors alumni in New York state who return to their home counties to start or enhance, a business or non-profit, and who regularly volunteers and is deeply engaged in their home counties. Nate is a Devoted Dad when he isn't farming and enjoys spending time with his kids and trying out new recipes that incorporate the award-winning dairy products his family farm helps produce. Danielle Robidoux is a long-time food activist who has been interested in our connection to food since she was young. Raised by her Italian grand-mother, she was making homemade sauce since she could walk. Traveling to coffee lands throughout her higher education brought up the resounding question of 'why do people have to suffer so consumers can buy cheap products?'. To Danielle, Equal Exchange had the answer. Danielle has her Master's Degree in International Relations and Economic Development and has been doing organizing work for Equal Exchange for the past seven years. She loves yoga, hiking, traveling, and anything that involves food.

PLEASE HELP: Russ Walks The Uk Anticlockwise Welcome to another episode of "Inspirational Journeys." In this episode, we're diving into the captivating life story of Russ Chittenden, a man whose journey has captured the hearts of many. Through his own words, Russ takes us on a remarkable expedition of his experiences and the lessons he's learned along the way. Russ begins his narrative by recounting his origins, having been born in Minster Hospital on the Isle of Sheppey. Although he holds no personal memories of the island, fate would soon guide his family's path towards new horizons. At the tender age of one or two, Russ and his family relocated to Nottingham, a move that marked the beginning of a transformative journey spanning 39 years. Growing up amidst the sprawling expanse of the University of Nottingham's 52-acre sports fields, Russ reminisces about his childhood adventures alongside his siblings. His father's role as head groundsman not only shaped their living situation but also instilled within him a strong connection to the outdoors and the freedom it represents. A house that once stood as their home is now etched into history as a tram line, a poignant reminder of the passage of time. With a chuckle, Russ shares the tale of his unconventional school routine, a "free range" existence reminiscent of unfettered chickens. The daily dinner call echoed through the fields at 5pm, drawing the Chittenden siblings back home like a flock. Russ reveals that even attending school required creative coaxing, including the occasional tractor ride to ensure his presence. Formal education may not have ignited his passion, but these anecdotes paint a vivid picture of a spirited young soul unbounded by convention. As he entered his teenage years, a new chapter unfolded with a move to Aylesbury. This transition, though unintentional, sparked a yearning for exploration and a desire to break free from confinement. This yearning was eventually answered through a bold career shift into the military, granting Russ the opportunity to explore distant lands. The Indian Ocean, the Malacca Straits, and the South China Sea became his maritime playground during a transformative two-year journey post-military service. Russ's versatility shines as he recounts his experiences in home construction, a skill honed before his military tenure. This skill not only left its mark on his native counties but carried him across continents. Stepping foot on African soil and engaging with diverse cultures worldwide, Russ's tale becomes a testament to the unquenchable thirst for discovery. The most poignant facet of Russ's journey comes to light as he reveals his motivations for an extraordinary coastal expedition. This quest, fueled by a desire for boundless existence, now takes on a dual purpose — to uplift fellow citizens who've faced adversity in service to their nation. Russ's heartwarming commitment to giving back underscores the depth of his character. In closing, Russ reflects on the life he's lived thus far, expressing a profound sense of fulfillment. His words resonate with the assurance that if his time were to end tomorrow, his life would be regarded as one richly lived. Interacting with his listeners, he expresses gratitude for the connections made and the shared experiences that make the United Kingdom truly special. With a touch of humor, Russ playfully anticipates his return home, knowing that the allure of the unknown will soon beckon him once more. As we wrap up this episode, we're reminded of the power of a life fully lived, a journey enriched by experiences, connections, and the unwavering pursuit of the next horizon. Thank you for joining us on "Inspirational Journeys." Be sure to tune in next time as we uncover more extraordinary stories of individuals who've embarked on paths less traveled, leaving behind trails of inspiration for us all.

Trecey Chittenden, Hoffman grad and the previous Facilities Director at Earthrise retreat center, now Hoffman Process Retreat Center, shares a bounty of stories about the land and history of our new retreat site. Trecey found out about the Process while working at Earthrise long before it became Hoffman's new home. Three years later, when she was really struggling, she decided to do the Process. It had a profound effect on her. Two eventful years ago, Trecey reached out to the Hoffman Institue to share that Earthrise was available for the Process after White Sulphur Springs was lost in the Glass fire. Listen in as Trecey shares with us the amazing connection and synchronicity between the Hoffman Process, Astronaut Edgar Mitchell (a Hoffman grad), and Earthrise/IONS. Thank you, Trecey, for your help in bringing Hoffman to Earthrise. Something amazing to witness is how Hoffman students transform over the week during the Process. Trecey shares with Liz the joy she experienced witnessing their transformation. When new students would arrive, Trecey would help to get them settled into their rooms for the week ahead.  As she says, often during the first two days, people can look sort of stiff and unsure. By day three, students begin to relax and find their footing. And by day seven, it's hard to recognize them they've changed so much. Trecey wonders if all the different kinds of work and the energy of the land both play a role in students' transformation.  More about Trecey Chittenden: Born in Los Angeles in 1969, Trecey moved with her family to Hawaii when she was six months old. At eight, Trecey moved to New Hampshire where she lived until she was eighteen. She attended Waldorf schools from pre-K thru 12th grade, which set the stage for her to be a more creative and imaginative person. After graduating High School, Trecey traveled around Europe and the Caribbean for the next few years before moving to San Francisco for work. Three years later, she moved to Stinson Beach, a small town outside of San Francisco, to raise her son. She came to work in the kitchen at EarthRise IONS through her work in restaurants. Trecey worked for IONS on the retreat center side for fourteen years as the Executive Chef for nine years, then as the retreat center Assistant Director, then the facilities Director. This is how she came to hear about the Hoffman Process. You won't be seeing Trecey at the Hoffman retreat site in the future. She's moved to Maine to be closer to family. As mentioned in this episode: White Sulphur Springs and the Glass Fire Astronaut, Edgar Mitchell: A crewmember of Apollo 14, Edgar Mitchell was the 6th man to walk on the moon. Sixty-three years had passed since Seattle pioneer Thomas Mercer first proposed the idea of connecting the saltwater of Puget Sound to the freshwater of Lake Washington via Lake Union, when the Lake Washington Ship Canal was officially dedicated on the 4th of July, 1917. In the five decades that followed Mercer's offer, local citizens, business leaders, government officials, military personnel, and entrepreneurs debated where to establish the connection and how to pay for it. After Hiram M. Chittenden was appointed District Engineer of the Army Corps of Engineers for the Seattle District in 1906, plans were drawn up and federal financing was obtained to complete the project. In addition to a series of locks at the west end of Salmon Bay, the ship canal Chittenden built included two cuttings, the Fremont Cut between Salmon Bay and Lake Union and the Montlake Cut between Lake Union and Lake Washington. The canal's construction resulted in a nine-foot drop in the water level of Lake Washington and a nine-foot rise in the water level of Salmon Bay beyond the locks, transforming the area from a tidal inlet to a freshwater reservoir.Listen now to learn more!A special thank you goes out to Al Hirsch for providing the music for the podcast, check him out on YouTube.Find merchandise for the podcast now available at:     https://washington-history-by-jon-c.creator-spring.comIf you enjoy the podcast and would like to contribute, please visit: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/EvergreenpodIf you have any questions, episode ideas you'd like to see explored, or just have a general comment, please reach out at Historyoftheevergreenstatepod@gmail.comTo keep up on news for the podcast and other related announcements, please like and follow:https://www.facebook.com/HistoryoftheevergreenstatepodcastThank you for listening!
