Send us a textIn this episode of the Movement Series, the hosts delve into Chapter 3, 'Starting to Take Jesus at His Word,' exploring the cultural biases that hinder the church's mission. They discuss the distinction between the church's function and form, emphasizing the need for a minimalist approach to church leadership and structure. The conversation highlights the financial unsustainability of traditional church models and calls for a significant shift in thinking to foster genuine disciple-making movements. This chapter promises to really push us.Our common approach might be prioritizing the structure. The church is a movement of people, not an organization.A church is defined simply as a group of people.Jesus intended a different kind of leadership.Clergyfication creates a divide. It's easier to give birth than perform resurrection. The system is financially broken.A major shift in thinking is needed. What would it take to truly see a movement?
In this sermon, Pastor Karl dives into First Timothy Chapter 3, exploring the roles and qualifications of church leaders as outlined by the Apostle Paul. He emphasizes that titles like elder and deacon are not about elevating status but activating service within the church. Pastor Karl unpacks the historical context of the synagogue system to clarify Paul's intent, highlighting that elders (overseers, pastors, or shepherds) and deacons (servants) are defined by their character and commitment to God's calling, not by hierarchy or prestige. With only one of the 16 qualifications for leadership tied to ability, the focus remains on living a life of faith, integrity, and service. Pastor Karl challenges the congregation to step into their God-given roles, stressing that ministry begins where ego ends and that every Christ follower is called to serve and lead in the church. Through Paul's spontaneous praise, Pastor Karl reminds us of the greatness of Jesus, who is alive and worthy of our active response to His call. A challenge we often face is the ability to focus on a target and hit it. We may be able to see the target, but there is a reason why competitions are held in accuracy. In the book of acts we have seen a target come into focus when it comes to Church Structure. How God planned, and designed the church to function for His glory above all else. As a church we want to walk in accordance with the word of God, that we in this local expression of the Body of Christ may bring Him glory, honor, and worship that is due His name. In Acts chapters 1-6 we see the gathering of the church in its original formation. From chapter 7-14 we see the spread of the church from the Jew to the Samaritan, to the Gentile! Just as Jesus proclaimed and called them to do in Acts 1:8. Finally we see the establishment of churches throughout the known world with structure, leadership and focus on the mission in Acts 14-28. Join us this weekend for this 10,000 foot view of the church in acts as we continue to grow as a local church! - Pastor Ben For Scripture, notes, upcoming events, & more: http://bible.com/events/49431691
In this compelling sermon, Pastor Karl dives into 1 Timothy Chapter 2, continuing his verse-by-verse journey through the Bible. He emphasizes the importance of sound doctrine in guiding the church and individual Christians. Pastor Karl unpacks the big idea that God's ordering is not about oppression but orchestration, designed for our protection and flourishing. He explores Paul's instructions to the church, highlighting the roles of grace, prayer, and devotion in the life of a Christ-follower. Addressing the contested passages on gender roles, Pastor Karl grounds his teaching in Genesis, explaining God's design for maleness and femaleness within the family and church. With clarity and conviction, he calls the church to rest under Scripture, embrace biblical doctrine, and live out God's complementary design as a testimony to the world. This episode challenges listeners to align with God's order, fostering unity and purpose in the church.Watch all our sermons on our YouTube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 9:00am & 10:30am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

While many are focused on the race for the White House, there's another contest looming. It's to decide the next archbishop of Canterbury, who not only leads 85 million Anglicans worldwide, but gets a seat in UK parliament. To the diminishing number of Christians in the West, why does this matter?
Bo Johnson shares his journey from being a pastor to transitioning his church to meet in homes. He discusses his passion for house churches and the importance of building relationships and making disciples. Bo explains the process of selling the church building and the challenges they faced. He also talks about the benefits of house churches, such as increased intimacy and focus on discipleship. Bo's ultimate goal is to help others start house churches and create a network of interconnected gatherings. He expresses his hope to see a shift in the body of Christ towards more intimate and relational gatherings in homes.
What are churches supposed to be doing? Do we help our city or help our church members? Do we reach the lost or disciple existing believers? In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares about what activity a church should be doing. Ekklesia - a church is an intentional gathering of people who follow Jesus. What is a church supposed to be doing?Acts 2:42-47 Based on this passage, there are several activities a church should be engaged in. Not all activities happen at once, and different size gatherings are better for different things. 1. They engaged in Bible study. (v42).2 Timothy 3:16-17Romans 15:4The Bible is bread for daily meals, not cake for special occasions. 2. They fellowshipped with one another (v42).Hebrews 10:24 ESV "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works."You'll ask someone to watch your stuff, but are you asking others to watch your soul? 3. They ate meals together. (v42).Acts 20:7 NIV "On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight."Sharing a meal with someone is a quick way to reveal the real you. 4. They prayed together (v42).Matthew 18:19-20Your prayer life reveals what you think about God. If you think He's listening, you'll talk to Him. 5. They practiced supernatural ministry (v43).Matthew 10:8 "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[a] drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give."John 14:12 "I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father." 6. They helped others in need. (v44-45).Galatians 6:10 "Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith."Hebrews 13:16 "Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God."Wanna make God happy? Help someone out! 7. They met in large gatherings, and in a small gatherings (v46).Acts 5:42 "Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah."If you only meet in small groups, or you only meet in large groups, you're missing out on the full benefit of being a part of a church. 8. They praised God (v47)Psalm 150:1-6We worship because we want to give back to God the love He first gave us. 9. They received new believers (v47).Churches are not only called to disciple existing believers, but we receive new believers too.1 Peter 2:2Are you engaging in church activity?
My friend Alisa joins for a conversation that touches on too many interesting topics to list! She tells of her journey from Baptist to Catholic, the messy aspects of cultural church life in contrast to Jesus' original teachings, the ways liturgy can bring more freedom rather than less, and much more. Bear with our glitchy Zoom call audio issues at the beginning, it's a great conversation! To compliment our teaching “The Church: His Model” we have released a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) follow-up to assist in offering additional clarity on this complicated and controversial subject. In this presentation we are going to respond to a large number of questions surrounding this topic that we did not get covered in the main teaching. Some of these questions include: Does the Moses Model work? What about Paul appointing elders? Does this mean Paul had more authority? What about Hebrews 13:7 and 13:17? Every congregation needs to determine its organizational strategy in order to best proclaim the Gospel. In the first episode of season four of The Concordia Publishing House Podcast, host Elizabeth Pittman is joined by Dr. David Peter from Concordia Seminary St. Louis to discuss his new book, Organizing for Ministry and Mission: Options for Church Structure. Available on cph.org now. Show Notes: Organization is never optional. In order for any church to best administer sacraments and care for its members, all congregations must take a thoughtful approach to structural details in order to carry out its goals for ministry and mission. Dr. David Peter dives into this idea and why he chose this topic as the main theme in his new book in this episode. While Church congregations are more than just an organization, it is vital to think of it as both a part of the body of Christ and an organization that requires intentional leadership and purposeful guidance in organizational structure. Why is organizing the church God's way so urgent- 1Timothy 3-14-15 looks forward to the second reading in morning public worship on the coming Lord's Day. In these two verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that organizing the church God's way was urgent enough to write about because of its relationship to God, the character of God, and its purpose from God.
