In this episode, Julie and Ginger welcome Ingrid Cockhren into the studio to discuss parenting in today's society…or, as Dr. Gabor Mate calls it, Horticulture on the Moon.   Dr. Gabor Mate, a renowned expert, brings a unique perspective to the table. He points out that Western society has taught us to ignore our parenting instincts. He cites indigenous parenting practices as examples, which were more likely to meet the infant's needs while supporting the mother and family with the community. We echo his sentiments. Our current culture often makes raising children a challenging task, akin to cultivating plants on the moon. Ingrid Cockhren, M.Ed., is a seasoned professional with a career spanning two decades. Her expertise in stress, trauma, and human development has allowed her to transform her research and knowledge into trauma-informed and healing-centered solutions for communities, workplaces, and organizations. Her diverse roles in juvenile justice, family counseling, early childhood education, professional development and training, and community education further underline her comprehensive understanding of the subject.  Ingrid states, “As long as we continue to focus on individual wants and desires and not the collective public good, then we will continue to have struggles, and our society pushes for those individual wants and desires. We are mainly driven by consumerism and capitalism and the pursuit of individual liberty and happiness.  These are our founding principles, but what is required when we have children is the village, the collective. This is in opposition to the values that go along with our society. As long as we continue down this path of putting the individual's wants and desires ahead of the collective good then we will continue to have environments that are not conducive to parenting." We discussed how to respond to failure biblically, and the scripture references were I and II Samuel and Psalm 51. We unpacked the seriousness of David's sin with Bathsheba. Christian musician, worship leader, songwriter, and painter Jon Reddick is the guest on our episode today and what may seem like a random start to his story about his lawn lands home with a message that is always relevant. Who Is Jon Reddick? “Jon Reddick has been my worship leader for over eight years now,” shares TobyMac about Reddick. “He's not only a gifted singer who expresses soul and emotion as well as anyone I've ever heard, but also a songwriter whose lyrics awaken my heart to hope through God's love.” Growing up the son of a pastor and the church pianist in Memphis, TN, and brother to six siblings -- including his sister, Janice Gaines, who herself went on to become a Stellar Award and GMA Dove Award nominated recording artist for Motown Gospel. The Reddick family was infused in music. It was woven into Reddick's DNA from the start. Eventually, Reddick and his family made their way to Nashville, where God kept putting unlikely people in his path. He has had the opportunity to work on songwriting with artists like Matt Redman, Tommy Sims, Josh Kerr and Sheryl Crow. He is also one of the worship leaders at Church of the City working alongside Chris McClarney and led by pastor Darren Whitehead. In addition to being a talented musician, Reddick is also a creative visual artist. In a fusion of his artistic and musical sides he has painted the artwork for each of his music releases. For me, art is a way for me to get my words out. It gives voice to what I'm feeling, allows me to say something in my own way. It's okay to let people interpret it how they interpret it, because it's something bigger. I just want to be a conduit to help people reconcile themselves with God and each other,” Reddick says. “I want to bring people together. I consider it an honor and a privilege to get to lead people in the transparency of worship.” His song, "God Turn It Around," charted top 5 on BOTH airplay/audience charts for the four consecutive weeks In 2020 Mandisa recorded and released a version of his song "You Keep Hope Alive" which became a Top 15 Billboard Christian Airplay and AC radio single and Top 50 single of the year. He has also performed at LakeWood Church, multiple IF Gatherings, the Unite to Fight Poverty event, the Experience Worship Conference and the fall 2021 TobyMac Hits Deep Tour alongside Tauren Wells, Jordan Feliz, We Are Messengers and label-mates Cochren & Co. and Terrian.

Michael Cochren from Cochren and Co has  been playing music since high school and began touring his songs as a teenager. He asked some mates to join and form a band and were soon opening shows for the Newsboys and Jeremy Camp, among others. The biggest deal came when he was noticed and signed to Toby Macs label Gotee Records. It's just amazing that Toby  took him under his wing and encouraged him to be the best version of himself. This helped launch Cochren and Co. to a huge audience. He loves Billy Joel and NSYNC ,all who helped shaped his musical journey. It was a bible study at college that made him realized his faith was actually real. He has a beautiful non guilty relationship with God.  He is a big fan of shows like this and Christian radio for getting his music out there, having seen the impact he's had as people all over the world sing his songs. Humbled by people clinging to his lyrics during tough times. He wants to encourage you to stay in the word, stay close to the voice of god and engage with people, start a conversation and see where random conversations go. On Sunday evening, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. EDT, Redemption will host Gotee Records recording artist Cochren & Co. at Redemption's Jasper Campus. The Dove Award-nominated Cochren & Co. have toured coast to coast and recently completed a run on the arena-filling Hits Deep tour directly supporting TobyMac and Crowder. Their debut full-length album Don't Lose Hope was released on Gotee Records in 2021 and includes the Billboard Top 10 Radio Hits "Church (Take Me Back)," "One Day," and "Who Can."
