Richard Bowker is in conversation with his father Roger Bowker, a legendary transport industry professional who spent 62 years in the bus industry working for Eastern National, Oldham Corporation, SELNEC, Greater Manchester Transport, Rossendale Transport, Eastbourne Buses, London Transport and Stagecoach Group. A pioneer with the industry, Roger Bowker's passion for excellence in service whilst at the same time delivering a profitable business means he is highly respected amongst his peers. His passion for transport began with railways though and in this video, he discusses the influence that his father (who also worked on the railways during the Second World War) had on him. We hear about 10000 and 10001, the Coronation Scot, Clan class locos on the West Coast Main Line, rides on the Keswick line as well as the Coniston and Lake Side branches. We also hear about tram and trolleybuses. Everything is covered! This is a wonderful trip down memory lane but where all the memories and messages are as relevant to public transport today as they were in the 1950s and 1960s. ...in which we're defeated by weather, so shelter indoors to hear from one of the UK's great adventurers: Cockermouth-based James Forrest, who has bagged all 1,001 mountains in the UK and Ireland, and broke records walking both the 446 Nuttalls and 214 Wainwrights. An escape from the nine-to-five was, James tells us, the drive for his first challenge – to conquer every mountain in England and Wales in the shortest documented time. But his heart was always in Lakeland, which led to his 2020 self-supported round of the Wainwrights. In a reflective interview, we hear about the highs and lows of an epic walk; we ask whether 'adventure' can be a ruse to escape everyday life; we consider our changing relationship with the fells as we spend more time in them; and we learn why James is "never, ever, ever" returning to the Brecon Beacons. James' book Mountain Man is published by Bloomsbury. Available from all local bookshops. James can be found at amesmforrest.co.uk

Nicola Hardy worked in IT in South Yorkshire for a decade before diving into freelance life as an adventurer and outdoor writer in 2019. She began by climbing all 282 of Scotland's Munros and - after her plans to hike 3000km in New Zealand were scuppered by Covid - she continued adventuring closer to home.    In 2020 she walked 330km from her birthplace in Sheffield to her new home in Cockermouth, Cumbria, journeying on foot across three national parks; and in 2021 she climbed all 214 Wainwrights in the Lake District over seven long weekends, a quirky book-by-book peak-bagging adventure.   Nic in her own words:   “I'm basically half IT organised spreadsheet nerd and half outdoor adventure loving hiker. I've taken a series of steps over the last 5 years to make my life as outdoorsy and adventurous as possible. I quit my job and sold my house in April 2019 and had 6 months of Scottish hill walking adventure, since then I've dabbled in route writing, gear reviewing, festival speaking, outdoor magazine/website writing whilst spending as much time outdoors around all that as I can.    I also now work a 2-day a week job to keep regular income coming in whilst doing my freelance work and adventuring around that. Flipping the 5-day working week on its head and ensuring my love for the outdoors doesn't become stressful due to the need to focus constantly on monetising it.”   New episodes of the Tough Girl Podcast go live every Tuesday and Thursday at 7am UK time - Make sure you hit the subscribe button so you don't miss out.    The Tough Girl Podcast is being sponsored throughout March by Inov-8 supporting the #MarchDailyMile Challenge.   If you're interested in Inov-8 products send me a DM – I have a special discount code for you!!   Show Notes Who is Nicola Hardy? .."The Anniversary"... The poem talks about the Anniversary of Donne and his love. He begins by stating that as the years go by his love only grows. The poem speaks of how even after death, they will still be together... He states how they feel royalty just by being together... This poem has three stanzas, ten lines in each stanza. Its also known as rhyming couplets. All types of poetry have specific qualities that allow us to group them together, but Metaphysical Poetry is a little bit different. The characteristics are highly intellectualized. The Metaphysical Poetry often mixed ordinary speech with Paradoxes and Puns. The result was strange, comparing unlikely things, such as lover to a compass or the soul to a drop of dew. This weird comparison was called conceits.....Metaphysical use rather strange imagery, they use frequent paradox and contain extremely complicated thought. Metaphysical poetry is to consider how the poems are about both thought and feeling. Metaphysical poets created a new trend in the history of English literature. These poems have been created in such a way that one must have enough knowledge to get the actual meaning. The creator of metaphysical poetry john Donne along with his followers is successful not only in that period but also in the modern age. Metaphysical poetry takes an important place in the history of English literature for its unique versatility and it is popular among thousand of peoples till nothing now remains untouched? you have very well explained the different points of metaphysical poetry, even you have also inserted a chart pic of the age of metaphysical, which was not clearly visible. you have also described the different poems of John Donne which presented a good example of metaphysical theater This was a really great contest and hopefully, I can attend the next one. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed myself You have been really consistent with the information on this topic. The concern of the writer and the opinion is original.
