Hi friend, it's Jody Agard here. Savasana, also known as "Corpse Pose," is one of the most fundamental relaxation poses in yoga and meditation practices. And it involves lying flat on your back with arms and legs relaxed, palms facing upward, and eyes closed.  The goal is to let go of all physical and mental tension, entering a state of deep relaxation and stillness. I see it as the ultimate relaxation pose, a moment to let everything melt away and just be.  And so that's what today's meditation is all about, embracing that deep serenity, letting go of stress, and sinking into pure calm. So, get comfy, take a deep breath, and let's unwind together. Xo, Jody Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

PAUSE… Now as you exhale,  Release your arms and legs, And relax yourself into comfort. PAUSE… Feel what's beneath you, The floor,  Or your bed, Or the couch, And just become aware of the weight of your body on top of it.  PAUSE… Now breathe in deeply, Expanding your belly as far as you can, Holding it for a moment, And then exhaling, Contracting the belly, And letting all that air go.  PAUSE… Relax even deeper,  Melting just a bit more with every breath out.  LONG PAUSE… Savasana, or corpse pose, Gives us a chance to practice stillness. To practice the art of being, And not doing.  To practice clearing our minds,  And softening our bodies. PAUSE… There is nowhere for you to be, Nothing for you to do. So surrender yourself to the pose,  Breathing yourself deeper, And deeper into this moment. LONG PAUSE… Allow your feet to part, Your legs to soften,  And relax.  Open your hips, And soften your belly. PAUSE… Feel a warming energy travel slowly up your spine, Beginning at the bottom of your back, And rising, Rising, Breath by breath, Melting you, One vertebrae at a time. All the way up to the top of your neck.  Breathe… PAUSE… Let your heart open, Your arms get heavy, And your neck and face, Soften and relax. PAUSE… Stillness is here within you, Behind the movement of thoughts, Past the highways of fear. Deep within the center of you. Right here.  Always. LONG PAUSE… Now slowly begin to wiggle your fingers and toes, And when you're ready, Bring yourself to a sitting position.  PAUSE… Bring your hands to your heart, And take a moment to honor this body, The space, This practice. The light in me honors the light in you. Namaste, Beautiful

Welcome to another insightful episode of The Yoga Therapy Hour Podcast. In today's episode, we are joined by the remarkable Leslie Howard, a distinguished yoga teacher, yoga therapist, and yoga researcher. Leslie delves into the profound and mystical experiences she encountered during Savasana Pose, also known as Corpse Pose, experiences that defied modern explanations. But that's just the beginning of Leslie's journey. She shares her transformational path towards becoming a Death Doula, an unexpected realization that drew a profound connection between yoga and the preparation for the inevitable. In a world where the essence of yoga often gets overshadowed by modern practices, Leslie brings to light its ancient purpose: preparing us for the profound journey of death and dying. Through her Death Cafe's, Leslie invites candid conversations about mortality, offering insight and answers to questions that surround the preparation, the moments themselves, and the mysteries beyond. She sheds light on the unsettling medicalization of death in contemporary society, where the focus is on prolonging life, often at the expense of a peaceful transition. Leslie also emphasizes the significance of legacy and the enduring impact of even the smallest acts of kindness. In a thought-provoking discussion, she prompts us to reflect on how we would live our lives if we knew our time was limited, revealing that research suggests people would prioritize quality time with loved ones over material pursuits. As we explore this profound subject, Leslie offers a treasure trove of book recommendations and insights into the art of being present for our loved ones during those final moments of farewell. If you're ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery and contemplation, embracing both the concept of your own mortality and that of your loved ones, then this episode is sure to resonate with you. Quick Summary:Leslie Howard, a renowned yoga teacher, therapist, and researcher, shares her extraordinary experiences in Savasana Pose. Her journey towards becoming a Death Doula and the surprising realization that death preparation is inherently linked to yoga. The lost essence of yoga's role in preparing us for death in modern yoga studios. The establishment of Death Cafe's to foster open conversations about mortality and its various aspects.Discussing the medicalization of death and society's focus on prolonging life at the expense of a peaceful transition.Exploring the significance of legacy and the enduring impact of acts of kindness and contribution.Reflecting on how our lives might change if we lived with the awareness of limited time, with research suggesting a shift towards prioritizing quality time with loved ones.Leslie's book recommendations to further explore the topic. The art of being present for loved ones during their final weeks, days, or moments.  If you would like to receive the free infographics and handouts that correspond to each episode on the Yoga Therapy Hour Podcast, please subscribe to our segmented email list. You will have the opportunity to determine the Infographic Topics that you would like to receive. When The Yoga Therapy Hour Podcast has a topic that corresponds to your choices, then you will receive an email for that week with the PDF's for download.Topics you can choose from include: Yoga Therapy & Mental HealthYoga Therapy & Physical HealthSocial Justice in yoga & Yoga TherapyYoga/Ayurveda ToolboxYoga & Indian PhilosophyGlobal & Trending Yoga Therapy TopicsClick the link below to subscribe. It takes 10 seconds total.https://amywheeler.com/subscribe Find Leslie Howard:Website: http://lesliehowardyoga.com  Check out Amy's websiteVisit Amy's training section on her website to check out the courses belowYoga therapy training courses865-certified-yoga-therapist-programwww.optimalstateyoganidra.comwww.TheOptimalState.com

I'd like to share with you the moment that forever changed my life. I spent almost a decade struggling with addiction and the LA party scene. I knew I had to make a change because it was affecting my health, career, finances, and mental health. It was a toothache that changed everything. As a result of my broken tooth, I had a root canal, which led to a deeper love of essential oils. My dentist said I would have had a worse infection if I hadn't used clove oil. It was at this point that I began my journey toward a healthier lifestyle. I went back to what I knew, a yoga mat. As I began my practice on the mat, I was aware that it had to change to create the future I imagined of becoming a mother, having a family, and having a healthy lifestyle. As I lay there in corpse pose, I couldn't move. I knew what I had to do. This was the moment when I let my old life rest and was born again. Your Neighbor's Uncle's Rabbi's Taxidermist.. Pose. Idk you guys. I'm tired. I'm sitting here looking at the wall. I didn't sleep well last night because I had that recurring nightmare where my finger's are hot dogs and I have to dial 911 on a corded phone because Steve Buscemi is outside the window looking in and he won't leave??? But the hot dogs are slippery because they're uncooked, so it won't dial right. I can't go to sleep because Steve Buscemi is always waiting there, and I'm tired. Hosts Courtney and Alissa are back to talk about yoga and how they did for this week's challenge! They'll focus on some mad ways to get calm bro. Stretching is good your mind and your body bro. Grow Taller The wall is a versatile prop, especially for working on posture. We spend so much time during the day looking down and reaching forward that we tend to develop rounded posture. This can even cause us to appear shorter. Using the wall as a prop helps us to stack the body, open the chest and bring the head over the shoulders. We can also use the wall as a place to create traction and decompress the spine. This practice starts with posture work in mountain pose at the wall. We will use a block on top of the head to help us feel the effort against gravity that helps us to elongate. Then we turn the body around to downward facing dog with the hands on the wall. From this position we can explore some more accessible versions of warrior 3 that create nice space down the sides of the body. Moving from the wall to a bar, or in your home the kitchen sink/ counter top, we move deeper into natural traction by sinking our body weight back toward the pelvis while the arms are anchored. Moving down onto the mat we practice the classic Balancing Table posture with the foot pressing into the wall and the opposite arm reaching away. This offers another opportunity to create space down both sides of the body. The feeling of lifting the body up against the pull of gravity is then explored in Staff pose with the feet pressing into the baseboard. From there we roll down onto the mat to feel the length in supine Mountain pose and Corpse Pose. This sequence will improve your posture, open up new space for the breath and leave you feeling taller! Thank You so much for watching & Thank You Melissa for having me on your channel! After seeing lots of posts about opossums on my social media feeds thanks to the wildlife rehabbers who are taking in orphans and trying to raise awareness of the benefits of having opossums around, I thought I’d fill in some blanks with this episode. The Earth card from Alberto Villoldo’s Mystical Shaman Oracle deck set it up and the idea of “playing possum” led into a 30-minute practice to get you deep into yoga’s corpse pose, savasana. When you’re back from playing dead, bookmark the Animal Help Now site – www.ahnow.org – to find a wildlife rehabilitator in your area and help out an opossum, or other animal, in need. If you would like to chat about this episode or learn more about yoga, Shamanic Reiki, wildlife conservation, or other ways we can bring healing to all of the beings on our beautiful planet Earth, join us in the Shamanic Flow Circle group on Facebook or visit my website at www.DebbiePhilp.com and sign up for the newsletter. Savasana is a yoga pose typically taken at the end of a yoga class to allow your body to absorb your physical practice. Also known as Corpse Pose, the body lays completely still on the floor, allowing for the muscles to be relaxed as thought sleeping, yet the mind can remain awake and alert. Make yourself comfortable for 5 mins, using any props such as blankets or eye pillows, to calm and refresh your mind ready for the rest of your day. Please only listen to this podcast whilst is safe to do so, and not whilst driving.
