Congratulations to Lauren Rutan who competed this weekend earning an Elite Total and a 400+ DOTS!!!  Lauren is an IFBB Pro and a previous Top 10 Powerlifter but took a break while expanding her family!  Her and her husband now have 6 kids!!!  Lauren is working her way back into competitive powerlifting and CRUSHED IT at a meet this past weekend as part of that return journey to powerlifting!  In today's podcast I discuss our nutrition and training programming leading into the meet, how the meet itself went, and what adjustments we'll be making in her future programming!  Lots of fun information!!!

Before his current role, Coach Adam spent six years as the director of basketball operations at both Alabama and Buffalo for Coach Oats. At Buffalo, Coach Adam was part of a staff that became the winningest team in program history. Prior to his time at Buffalo, Coach Adam oversaw all video coordination for men's basketball at Mississippi State from 2012-15 while also playing a huge part in organizing their recruiting database. As you soon will find out, organization is the key to Coach Adam's daily approach to his job. Coach Adam is a graduate of Southern Illinois. He was a student manager for the SIU basketball team that went to three NCAA Tournaments and one NIT. He was also a part of the 2007 SIU squad that advanced to the Sweet 16. Coach Adam then joined the staff at Arizona State as a graduate assistant coach. Number 1, ignore halfway through the episode where my dog interrupts because she's super rude...BUT Audre freaking CRUSHED IT in this episode! We talk anxiety, trauma, and steps to move past it to truly dig deep into the life you want to live. We basically do it all today, so buckle up and let's chat with Audre!

When I first got to St. Francis High School in Mt. View California, I was coming from a small public school and hardly knew anyone... I was a decent student and a pretty good athlete, but St. Francis was simply a different level.  I was challenged in the classroom but even more so on the football & baseball field. Many of the Bay Area's best athletes attended St. Francis, and I was just another cow in the middle of the herd trying to get noticed in the pasture...  Oftentimes the kids talked about how “political” it was when it came to who made the teams and who got to be the starters... Whether or not that was true, it was a nice safety blanket excuse available for all those who felt slighted.  I played very little on the Freshman football team and actually thought I got cut from the Freshman baseball team... Most importantly though, I made it through both seasons and despite being extremely humbled, I was HUNGRY for much more. When I returned as a Sophomore, I was no longer overwhelmed by the competition and came in with an entirely new attitude...  Instead of looking for excuses as to why somebody else was getting more playing time, I simply focused all of my energy on what I could control and made it my insurgent mission to practice and play so well that there was absolutely no way they could ignore me.  With the right attitude and relentless effort, I EARNED the starting running back job on offense and the strong safety position on defense, then was called up to varsity for the CIF playoff championship run...  On the baseball field, I had hopes of making the Varsity as a Sophomore but started with the JV team... Instead of bitching and moaning, I simply went to work & absolutely CRUSHED IT... Within a short period of time, I got called up to the Varsity and faced one of the best pitching prospects in the country, Dan Serafini, from Serra High School... 3 bullets up the middle later and the 50 plus scouts in the stands all of a sudden wanted to know who the new kid was. Look, this Daily Hustle wasn't written to relive my high school glory days (if I wanted to do that I would have focused on my 4 touchdown game against King City).

We got EXTREMELY LUCKY (or blessed). We did everything WRONG. Going into this partnership, I had zero idea what to look for in a business partner. Honestly, I didn’t even want one!Taylor saw me crushing it selling Cornhole lights on Amazon. So he invited me to dinner to try to convince me to let him partner with me…He literally said, I quote…"So, do you need a business partner?”To which I responded, instantly. “Nope.”And THEN he said…“well, do you need an investment?”to which my broke butt said…“yes…”So I gave up a percentage of my company in exchange for much needed money from mr money bags, Taylor Hiott :)His wife, Brooke, thought he was absolutely crazy…That was the money they had saved as a downpayment for a house…Here’s what happened next. We launched 5 products immediately. ALL of his 20k investment was GONE. Whoosh. Out the door.We might as well have lit that money on fire… The next day, after Taylor had signed the papers, my two bestselling products got removed off Amazon. The cornhole lights due to a patent claimAnd these baby pillows because they were unsafe for babies…no joke. This right here is why you don’t just rush into a business partnership. Taylor SHOULD have…1) Screamed at me for an hour or so2) Threatened to sue me if I didn’t give his money back3) Actually sue me for not being able to give his money backAnd I’ve heard many stories of that exact same thing happening to real people.I’m serious. We were NOT friends going into this. The fact that Taylor and I weathered THAT storm, AND all the subsequent storms (of which there were hundreds) AND became best friends AND created multi-million dollar empires?= Literally a .0000000000001% chance of that actually being successful, considering I didn’t even know the guy before I signed the papers. But hey, here we are. The takeaways from this are…1) DON’T JUMP INTO A BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP UNLESS YOU ARE CRAZY LUCKY OR CRAZY BLESSED LIKE US. Doing it with your best friend will likely drive a wedge between you because it’s hard and serious stuff.Like I said above but I will say again, you are basically MARRYING this person. If they are 1% lazy you are screwed. If they have family issues come up and can’t work hard? You’re screwed. If they are at all influenced by money they will take quick profits and tank your business. If you can’t trust them to jump in front of a bullet for you, it won’t work. No joke. 2) God has ACTUALLY had an influence. At least in THIS situation. I can’t write this letter and lie to your face. Whether you believe it or not, I KNOW it to be true. None of this would have ever happened, not even remotely, if it wasn’t for God’s hand on it.
