On the phone-in: The conversation is about coping with grief. Our guests are Mary Ellen MacDonald and Roy Ellis. And off the top of the show, we speak with retired CBC host, Norma Lee MacLeod. She talks about the legacy of champion curler and retired journalist, Colleen Jones.
Remembering Colleen Jones. The 65-year-old was a world champion curler, and a member of the Order of Canada. She was also a longtime CBC personality, telling the stories of Canadians over a career that spanned four decades, starting in 1986 as Halifax's first woman sports anchor. Jones died today following a battle with cancer. And: For a deal that hasn't been officially announced yet, there's already a lot of debate in the House of Commons. Prime Minister Mark Carney was in Parliament today, defending a proposed energy agreement with Alberta. Plans the opposition says are moving too slow, while some in British Columbia worry about the idea itself. Also: Now that parents can immunize infants against RSV, hospitalizations are down roughly 80%. But not every province is publicly funding the pricey injections, so not all Canadians have equal access.Plus: Thomas King revelation reaction, more recall petitions in Alberta, optimism and apprehension in Ukraine peace talks, cuts to university sports programs, and more.
Curling champion Glenn Howard talks about working with Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy, getting confused for his older brother Russ (and vice-versa), moving from competing into coaching both his kids and the Swiss national team, his 38 year association with The Beer Store allowing him to have two successful careers, his TV appearance on CBC's Little Mosque on the Prairie, his positive interactions with CBC Sports' Mr Curling Devin Heroux, how The Curling Group is revolutionizing the sport and moving it away from its association with smoking and drinking, just missing an Olympic medal while coaching Great Britain at 2018 Pyeongchang, and why winning The Brier/Canadian Championships was super hard whereas winning World Championships was super important! Glenn and his fellow Class of 2025 Inductees will go into the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in a ceremony at Toronto's Granite Club on October 16th...for full event details, please visit https://ontariosportshalloffame.com/ TORONTO LEGENDS is hosted by Andrew Applebaum at andrew.applebaum@gmail.com All episodes available at https://www.torontolegends.ca/episodes/ Learn more about your ad choices.
