On June 22, 2023, the Parliament of Canada passed C-47. This law imposes new fees and stricter natural health product market restrictions. The Natural Health Products Protection Association (NHPPA) argues that this will drive many of the smaller and medium-sized producers and retailers (like your local health supplement store) out of business.  Their products will be gone.The prices will increase for the products that survive. This is because the producers will have to pass on their increased costs to the consumer.  At a time when healthcare across our nation is under strain, most Canadians would agree that we need to be going towards having MORE access to health and wellness products, not less.  Features on this show to discuss is Shawn Buckley, a constitutional lawyer who at one point represented Health Canada but has since become one of the leading litigators against them. I'd chalk this up to a one-off, but over a 26-year span he had been moved between a number of parishes in southern Alberta. Sound familiar? And, yes. This was on Bishop Fred Henry's watch. Embattled ex-Cardinal Wuerl claims lapses in memory over having heard about sexual abuse allegations against Theodore McCarrick. Someone should give Wuerl a Rolodex to keep them all straight. Miscellaneous... The two men behind the free Toronto "newspaper" Your Ward News which, among other things, wants rape decriminalized and claims a bloodthirsty Jewish conspiracy is afoot, will appeal their hate speech conviction. Totally forgetting Jesus was himself a Jew, one of the defendants said, "We have Jesus on our side." Ironeeeeee!

I had the pleasure of talking to David Stephan who over the last 6 years has not only had to deal with the death his son Ezekiel, but also he and his wife being dragged through the courts and being national news. David’s son’s case was the first of its kind and the Canadian “Justice” system was aiming to make an example of him and his wife. If you read the mainstream media’s version of events you’d think that David and his wife Collet were to blame for their son’s death, but, as you’ll hear in the interview, nothing could be further from the truth. This week Emilie and I dive into two cases and then take aim at former Justice Minister Peter MacKay. First After almost two and a half years in jail Connie Oakes is a free woman. Last month the Alberta Court of Appeal over turned Oakes' conviction and the Crown declined to re-prosocute. The case bears some similarities to the convictions documented in Making a Murderer - tunnel vision, questionable confessions, and lives destroyed. Second On April 26th David Stephan and Collet were convicted of failing to provided the necessities of life in the death of their 19-month-old son Ezekiel. How far can the criminal law stretch into parenting and what sentence might the Alberta couple receive. Last Peter MacKay defended the Conservative government's tough on crime legacy and wrote some other dumb stuff in a National Post op-ed.
