Former Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan tells Ohio Public Media Statehouse News Bureau Chief Karen Kasler how he views the future of the Democratic party in Ohio. Ohio Statehouse Scoop Host Jo Ingles reports the first committee hearing for a controversial bill banning diversity, equity, and inclusiveness programs in the state's public colleges. She's joined by Kasler and Statehouse News Bureau Reporter Sarah Donaldson to talk about how lawmakers want to change the law that legalizes marijuana in Ohio, a new candidate for Ohio Attorney General, and what we can expect in Governor DeWine's new two-year budget. And we remember legendary Statehouse journalist Lee Leonard. We talk about all of this in this week's Ohio Statehouse Scoop.
We dive into the recent tumult surrounding two significant topics affecting public policy and religious freedom in Ohio. The spotlight is first placed on LifeWise Academy's attempts to ingratiate itself into Ohio public schools, alongside the ongoing case involving Dad's Place Church in Bryan, Ohio, as the Ohio Attorney General, David Yost, enters the fray. With rising tensions and opposing viewpoints, Doug dissects these developments, providing new insights into the legal and social landscape of the state. We get a comprehensive update on House Bill 8, a contentious piece of legislation that combines both anti-LGBT elements and provisions for Release Time Religious Instruction (RTRI). Doug reflects on the dynamics at play in the Ohio Senate's late-session debate, highlighting how amendments to the bill were pieced together amidst a growing coalition of concerned residents and advocacy groups opposed to the bill for one reason or another.Moving on to the case of Dad's Place Church, we contextualize the ongoing legal struggles faced by Pastor Chris Avell, who operates a makeshift homeless shelter in his church. A prior agreement between the city and Avell fell apart due to the pastor's lack of adherence to necessary zoning regulations. The situation escalated as the city issued citations, resulting in a federal lawsuit propelled by the Christian nationalist legal organization First Liberty. We discuss how Yost's recent input in support of Avell raises critical questions about government interference in religious endeavors, especially in light of accusations that the city is selectively enforcing regulations against the church under the guise of public safety. We dissect Yost's statements, questioning the narrative of animosity and exploitation that shapes the discourse around this case.Full Show Notes and Links UsedSend us a textSupport the showSubscribe to our free newsletterCheck out our MerchFollow us on BlueskyFind us on Twitter(for now) Find us on InstagramFind us on Counter SocialFind us on Mastadon

On today's Outcue, we talk about Public Records Requests, what they are, what they do, and why they are becoming increasingly more difficult to obtain. What is a public records request? Government offices are paid for with taxpayers' money, and you have the right to view the documents, records, and data within the office.According to the Ohio Attorney General's office, "The public's right to access such information is a cornerstone of our democracy. So, in a very real sense, this [Ohio Sunshine Law Manual] equips Ohioans with the knowledge they need to keep watch over the officials they elect and the agencies that are in place at every level of state government."Assistant News Director Justin Mitchell and Senior Digital Content Manager Robert McFerren discuss some of the issues and ways public officials have found ways to battle public records requests.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is not going to allow one lone judge to dictate whether the children of Ohio are protected from “transgender” surgeries and hormones, he shared in an interview with The Daily Signal.Yost asked the state's Supreme Court to intervene after Judge Michael Holbrook issued a temporary restraining order for House Bill 68, the Saving Ohio Adolescents From Experimentation, or SAFE, Act, on Tuesday. That law bars physicians from performing “transgender reassignment” surgeries on children and from prescribing cross-sex hormones or drugs to block children's puberty. It also would allow students to sue if they are deprived of a fair playing field in sports due to transgender activism (such as a boy who “identifies” as a girl playing on a girls' volleyball team) and would protect parents' rights to raise their children according to their biological sex.A supermajority of Republican lawmakers voted to override Gov. Mike DeWine's controversial veto of the bill in January, and before Holbrook blocked it, it was scheduled to go into effect on April 24.On Monday, Yost, the Medical Board of Ohio, and the state of Ohio filed an emergency motion for a writ of prohibition, asking that Holbrook be ordered to modify his temporary restraining order to “comply with Ohio statutory and procedural limitations.”The Ohio attorney general discussed the move and what he hopes will ensue from here in an interview with The Daily Signal.Enjoy the show! Riding Shotgun With Charlie #194 Rob Campbell Eye On The Target Radio You have absolutely no idea when or where you're going to meet your next best friend. I replied to a Facebook post about a radio show wanting to talk to instructors from every state. I replied because it was 2015 and I was teaching NRA courses in Massachusetts. I made two great friends during that show but I didn't know it. In 2016, I was at the Gun Rights Policy Conference and I ran into Amanda Suffecool. She's Rob Campbell's sister. They were the radio show hosts I talked to. We became fast friends. The following February I went to Cleveland to emcee a concealed carry fashion show with Amanda for Realize FAC, their non-profit to help educate people about firearms. After the fashion show then a Friends of the NRA dinner, we raced to the local radio station to do Eye On The Target Radio. We've raced all around the country, SHOT Show, NRA AM, GPRC, Florida Cary events, and the Rod of Iron Freedom Festival. Rob is a very relaxed guy. He's been called “Rob Dude” for sometime. His father was a collector of Ruger .357s. They have been going to SHOT Show for about 20 years. Rob and Amanda have owned a gun store and they spend time buying and selling some collectibles. Campbell has an extensive knowledge of firearm history and origins. They've got a segment on the history of guns on their show. Amanda just gives him a topic and he's off. Like many folks, Campbell has a day job that keeps him busy. But since EOTT has gone from a station in Akron OH, to a nationally syndicated show on the Salem Network, he hasn't really changed. He loves all the events they go to but he's the catalyst that pushes Amanda. He says he's along for the ride and would be OK if they weren't going everywhere. But I think he secretly enjoys it. We talk about how he does some training with friends. Most of it is defensive training. They like pushing a firearm's limit to see how much abuse it can take. He's at the range weekly trying new things and shooting different guns. Having a radio show gives you some credibility. One day; Rob got a call from a local sheriff and the Ohio Attorney General. They inquired about a blind man who wanted a carry permit. Campbell said he would train him and pass on his knowledge and skill information because the blind man also needs to be able to defend himself. When they asked if Campbell would give him a carry permit, he said it's not up to him. Because the man would have to apply, then be denied, then sue the state over his rights. Then they would have to determine how blind was too blind. Campbell really is a walking encyclopedia of firearm knowledge and history. At some events, he brings his Blue Book of Gun Values and helps evaluate guns for people. He has a story about a man who had a gun and didn't know what he had. Rob told him to have someone else evaluate it and it ended up being worth thousands of dollars. He's also told Amanda to go buy a particular gun because he knows it's worth more than the store is asking. Another time at an auction, someone got into a bidding war. The other person knew that if Campbell kept bidding, it had to have a high value. Turns out it was just going to be a parts gun for another one he was building. Rob is a great guy to hang out with and tell stories with. And I'm not necessarily talking about the tinfoil hat theories or what happened to Epstein. Favorite quotes: “I've been a student of the gun since I was a little kid.” “If you got a shotgun, you can find somebody that will buy it.” “I never paid too much for a gun, I just bought it too early.” “Shooting is a memory game: you gotta remember what you did last time you hit the bull's eye.” “You think the West Coast is anti-gun, but they like Rob & Amanda's radio show.” “It's not about the gun, it's all in the mechanics of keeping your eye open.” Eye On The Target Radio https://eyeonthetargetradio.com/ Realize FAC https://eyeonthetargetradio.com/realizefaq/ Second Amendment Foundation https://secure.anedot.com/saf/donate?sc=RidingShotgun Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms https://www.ccrkba.org/ Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters. In this episode, Scott Modell, Ph.D. and Staci Whitney, LMSW are joined by Executive Director of the Adult Advocacy Centers, Katherine Yoder, MS, CFI. Katherine shares her experience as an individual with Autism and also discusses emerging trends she's recognized in the disability field.Katherine Yoder is a certified forensic interviewer and a person with disabilities herself. For more than 20 years she has worked with people with disabilities in various capacities, from direct care to investigating crimes against people with disabilities across the state of Ohio. She also served on the Mortality Review Committee for the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities. All of this work revealed the glaring gaps in the different systems when a crime is committed against a person with a disability. After co-authoring the Advanced Forensic Interviewing Individuals with Disabilities (Project FIND) protocol, Katherine founded the Adult Advocacy Centers (AACs) in March 2019 to serve crime victims with disabilities. Since then, she has co-authored the Project FIND Adapted protocol for individuals who do not speak and four AACs' ADEPT forensic interviewing protocols for crime victims with disabilities. She holds a Bachelor's degree in social psychology from Park University and a Master's degree in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati. She is a Nonviolence 365 Ambassador with the King Center for Nonviolent Social Change. Katherine has receved many awards, including the Equality in Advocacy Award from Ohio Victim Witness Association in 2018, the Social Justice Award from the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission in 2021 and the Ohio Attorney General's Promising Practice Award in 2022. She was also a Diversability D-30 Disability Impact List Honoree for 2023. In 2023, the AACs were granted special consultative status to the United Nations, opening new doors to collaborations with international nonprofits, disability organizations and medical crisis responders around the world.

It's Monday, November 6th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Nigerian Muslims killed 17 Christians in Benue State On Sunday, October 29th, Fulani Muslim herdsmen and other terrorists killed six Christians in Benue State, Nigeria, following the slaughter of 10 others earlier last month, reports Morning Star News. In addition, another Christian in Benue State, 80-year-old Washima Erukaa, was killed after being kidnapped on September 23rd. A relative said, “His captors had demanded that we pay a ransom of $6,340, but we were not able to raise the money.” So, the Muslim terrorists killed him on October 23rd. Please pray that God would comfort the families who are grieving. Nigeria is the sixth most dangerous nation worldwide for Christians Turkey withdraws ambassador from Israel, breaks off ties As the death toll among Palestinian civilians has soared in the war between Israel and Hamas, the Muslim terrorists, Turkish President Recep Erdoğan said Saturday that he was recalling its ambassador to Israel and breaking off contacts with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in protest at the bloodshed in Gaza, reports AFP. The Muslim leader announced the decisions on the eve of what promises to be a difficult visit to Turkey by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Turkey, a Palestinian ally, had been mending torn relations with Israel until last month's start of the Israel-Hamas war. Iranian Muslims recruiting suicide bombers to hit Israel A hard-line Iranian group has been actively recruiting potential suicide bombers for operations in Israel, reports 24/7 News Around the World. The group responsible for this recruitment drive, Hezbollah, different from the Lebanese militant group with the same name, has initiated a campaign in the southeastern Iranian city of Mashhad, a significant place in Shia Islam. Posters featuring calls for 'martyrdom' have appeared on the streets of Mashhad, imploring residents to submit their personal details for consideration. These posters declare, “It's time for Jihad,” as they seek people to join a “special battalion of martyr seekers for Palestine.” Int'l House of Prayer Founder Mike Bickle accused of sexual abuse The Roys Report revealed that Mike Bickle, founder of the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, Missouri, is facing allegations of clergy sexual abuse “spanning several decades,” according to an October 28th statement from the ministry's leaders. Titus 1:6a declares, “An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife.” Stuart Greaves, the Executive Director of the International House of Prayer, read an announcement during the 11 a.m. service at the Forerunner Church in Grandview, Missouri. GREAVES: “We are heartbroken to share that we recently became aware of serious allegations of sexual immorality directed against Mike Bickle. Our leadership team takes these allegations very seriously. And we are laboring for truth, light, redemption and righteousness.” Mike Bickle has led the House of Prayer since 1999. It is a 24/7 charismatic, prayer ministry with about 2,500 full-time staff, students, and interns, which attracts people from around the world. Ohio Catholic churches vandalized over pro-life convictions ahead of Nov. 7th vote Just days ahead of a statewide vote on whether to enshrine abortion into the Ohio Constitution, vandalism is reportedly on the rise against Catholic churches in the Buckeye State because of their outspokenness against the pro-abortion constitutional amendment, reports LifeSiteNews.com. According to the Ohio Attorney General's Office, the Issue 1 amendment would go far beyond even Roe v. Wade. It would block prohibitions on partial-birth and dismemberment abortions, allow abortionists to target disabled babies, and end parental consent requirements for abortion. Plus, if Issue 1 passes tomorrow in Ohio, it would empower minors to make their own decisions about contraception, sterilization, and so-called “gender transition.” 10-year-old quadruple amputee to climb mountain to raise money And finally, a 10-year-old quadruple amputee is going to attempt to summit a 656-foot mountain to raise money for other children with disabilities, reports Good News Network. The climber, Luke Mortimer, is determined to summit Embsay Crag, in North Yorkshire, England which he can see from his rural home. The kind-hearted youngster has dubbed the peak his ‘Everest,' and is undertaking the challenge as an attempt to “return the favor” to charities which have helped him. Luke was just seven years old when he contracted the severe bacterial infections meningococcal meningitis and septicemia. Although he survived the deadly illnesses, he lost all four of his limbs and needed 23 painful surgeries over a ten-week period to replace missing skin and address his wounds. Charities and fundraisers set up in the wake of Luke's amputations managed $18,000 worth of donations from an army of well-wishers, allowing him to get his prosthetics. During the two-mile journey to the top of the summit, Luke will be wearing a set of shortened knee-length prosthetics called ‘stubbies' for the climb. Here at The Worldview we salute Luke Mortimer and pray that he successfully completes his mountainous journey and that the people of Britain would be generous as they bless other children who face amputations. Do you think our government needs some checks in place? Do you feel hopeless in reporting injustices about our government to the government? Today we are seeing large abuses of power from lawyers, prosecutors, defense attorneys, judges, police, FBI, senators, aldermen, and women. This doesn't cover all the offices, but you know what I mean. Do you think it's time to put some laws in place and have it take swift action to hold corrupt officials accountable? Tony Viola, my guest today, is working on doing just that. He knows from experience how government officials can destroy lives. Listen to his story; I did, and regardless of whether I know all the facts, I know some are true from experience, and I bet you do, too.Tony Viola, a Cleveland, Ohio citizen 10 years ago, was an ordinary successful real estate broker, having built his company with his wife. That all changed in a moment when the FBI charged him with embezzling over $46M in funds. He spent over 10 years in prison before winning his second trial from prison and being exonerated after a whistleblower came forward. He is continuing the fight by bringing a public awareness of what's happening and getting citizens to unite so that corrupt officials are held accountable.Show Highlights: · Tony's Arrest· Prosecutors who plan to win at all costs· Government corruption· Truth not pursued, but attention instead· They think they are doing the work of GodGuest Contact Information:Tony's WrongfulConviction Story | Free Tony ViolaMrtonyviola@iICloud.comHow Can I Help? | Free Tony ViolaPhone: 330-998-3290How to help?SIGN our Petition on Change.Org: http://chng.it/M6KG5yBT SHARE our website on your social media account TWEET out a link to FreeTony on your Twitter Account SIGN UP for our monthly E Newsletter (sign up in footer) FIND a blogger or reporter willing to write about this story POST a link to FreeTony on articles about criminal justice WRITE the Ohio Attorney General, asking him to investigate Prosecutor Kasaris:Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, 150 Gay Street - 16th Floor, Columbus, Ohio 43215 FOLLOW Tony on Twitter @tonyviola TELL us about your experiences with the justice systemFIND a criminal justice or journalism class interestedin a class project about Tony's case FIND celebrities to post a link to FreeTony on their social media accounts.FRIEND Tony on Facebook | TonyViolaAdvertisement– A...

The rule of law is the principle that no one is exempt from the law, even those who are in a position of power. When an officer-involved shooting or use-of-force incident occurs, the way in which the investigations are conducted is critically important to both law enforcement and the communities we serve. It can be the difference between the community having faith in the investigation – that it will be free of bias – and the community losing all trust in the system. On this episode of the Blue View, National FOP President Patrick Yoes sits down with Mark Kollar. Mark currently serves as a special agent supervisor for the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation – the investigative arm of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. In this capacity, Mark oversees the quality control aspects of the use-of-force investigations conducted by bureau investigators statewide, including policy development, training, task force operations and outreach initiatives. ⬛️ ⬛️ ⬛️ WATCH THIS EPISODE ➡️ https://youtu.be/MnTiDL3Ommo ⬛️ ⬛️ ⬛️ Mark Kollar currently serves as a Special Agent Supervisor for the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation – the investigative arm of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
