Visit us at shapedbydog.com Recently something happened in my own dog training that I'm sharing in this episode, and it's all about our expectations of our dogs. Along with our expectations, our beliefs and biases play a role in our relationship with our dogs. We're all bombarded with unrealistic expectations about dogs daily, so challenging what we think with curiosity can be a fast track to dog training success. Realistic expectations will bring us closer to our dogs, and help them be less frustrated and happier. In this episode you'll hear: • The role of expectations in relationships. • About unrealistic expectations in dog training. • How personal biases are shaped. • My revelation during a training session with my puppy, Prophet. • Why curiosity over disappointment is important in dog training. • About setting up an environment for success. • The shift from expecting perfection to embracing curiosity. • Why we need to manage our expectations. • About questioning our personal biases in dog training. TIP #1 for the end of 2022 - Done Is Better Than Perfect. We want to have a habit of doing things more and spend less time planning and playing things in our heads. To grow our businesses and to make sure we are moving closer to the goals set out we need to do more. Hope you find these tips helpful.
I bet you can finish this sentence: “If you can't do something right…” "Don't do it at all." Mmm….I strongly disagree. This is one of the most toxic mindsets I see. Perfectionism likes to parade around as something inspirational and helpful, but if you look behind the curtains it's all about fear — fear that you might not do it right, fear that it might not look just right, and fear that you just don't have what it takes. Perfectionism is just fear in really good shoes. Have you ever stopped to consider how much of your time and energy you spend trying to get something from good enough to perfect — when it probably doesn't make that much difference in the long run? What if we adopted this attitude instead? "Done is Better than perfect.” 'Done' is better because 'done' means you get to move on and have joy in life instead of obsessing over details that won't matter as time passes. Learn how Done Is Better Than Perfect can help you get organized, be more productive, improve personal goals, and better connect with your family. In this episode: “Perfectionism is just fear in really good shoes.” Perfectionism is a GPS system from the twilight zone Done is Better than Perfect (DBP) Done is Fun How you can implement Done is Better than Perfect when organizing your home, menu planning, working on a routine, health goals, and parenting. If you have ever felt the call towards entrepreneurship or the side job or gig, but think you have to go “all-in” right away or you can't do it, this episode is for you. Today we are chatting with Loraine, “Lo”, Bellamy, a lawyer who in the last 4 years has successfully launched her own coaching business, helping women grow their own businesses alongside their 9-5's. Lo is still lawyering full time but by keeping things simple and real, has seen huge additional income growth from her side gig. Lo realized at 30 years old that she had pretty much checked everything off her “to-do” list and was suddenly bored and feeling a bit of a void. Always feeling called to help others, she set out on a journey to not only fill her void, while still keeping her day job, but sparking new interests and desires. Lo helps women to realize that you can grow the side business while keeping your day job if you want to - you don't have to dive 1000% into entrepreneurship and forgo all else. Lo is on a journey to know herself well, remapping and reframing the mindset, manifesting the life she wants to live, and helping others to create their true and desired reality. Listen in for the following: How to embody “messy action” and letting go of high-achieving standards and perfection. How to have a healthy and enjoyable working environment as an entrepreneur, which is your brain and mental state, the place you predominately live when working for yourself! Realizing you don't have to do it all, right away. Learn to embrace the “slow burn” of entrepreneurship and how simple and streamlined can create great success. "Done is better than perfect" (but is it?)We've all heard the above quote. But we take a slightly different approach to the done vs perfect conversation. We believe that "done to the best of your ability is better than perfect".Listen in as we discuss how we define "perfect", knowing how to break the rules effectively, and imposter syndrome (that obnoxious pervasive success gremlin that holds people back). The Vision Board Course
You can't win a race that you don't start running. You can't finish a race that you quit. You can't create results overnight. This is a game of consistent intentional action every single day. You can get it overnight. But here's the thing who cares, how long it takes. All you have to do is start. If you're going to run a race and you're going to commit to running the race, you got to put your shoes on, you got to tie them up and you gotta lace them. And then you gotta put one foot in front of the other and one foot in front of the other. There is no perfect program. No perfect product. No perfect offer. No perfect launch. No perfect ad. No perfect email sequence. No perfect workout. No perfect meal. There is no perfect anything except the one that you decide to do that day. you have to commit every single day to starting every day that you wake up as a fresh day to start every day, that you are blessed with another breath that you are blessed with another day in this beautiful universe is a day that you get to start and you start by getting out of bed. You start by putting your best foot forward. You cannot win a race that you don't start. there is no perfect plan, you just got to play the game. Think about it. Your job is to launch. Your job is to go to work out, to eat, write an email, to do a social post, to launch a product, to launch an ad campaign, to launch thing, to do the thing that you must do to learn the lesson and the information needed to actually make it successful. Because if you don't start the race, you never figure out what's required to actually win it.
Have you ever heard the saying ‘Done is better than Perfect?’ Well my guest today is living proof that this is a saying you should take seriously. As with so many wedding businesses in 2020 Samie had to pivot quickly if she was going to survive. Procrastination was a luxury she couldn’t afford. In 6 short weeks from idea to conception Lovestream was launched and within just under a year, and during Covid, has done 250+ weddings. This is a story you won’t want to miss so stay tuned. In this episode we'll be covering:Why you should launch now and worry later. The importance of knowing your ideal clientHow not working with your ideal client can have a huge impact on your businessWays in which your ideal client can influence your businessA horror story of what happens when you don't work with your ideal client.
Does perfectionism hold you back? What ideas or projects are stuck at the “Be Perfect Before Launching” item on your to do list?It might be messy to take action, but mess is part of the creative process - it often takes a lot of chaos to create something beautiful, and a big old pile of ashes to cultivate roses or phoenixes. What ideas or projects are stuck at the “Be Perfect Before Launching” item on your to do list? And how can you take imperfect action to get them into the world? Maybe it's marketing, like social media, emails, or writing a blog post. Maybe it's a new product or service. Maybe it's your business idea! But whatever it is - embrace imperfection, enjoy the mess, and know that the process will bring beauty.

About this episodeIn today's episode, I'm delighted to share that I have two amazing ladies from the Philippines, Rachel Kelly Davis and Danella Yaptinchay. In the eight years they've known each other as co-founders, co-workers, and most importantly, friends, they know a thing or two on what it takes to work with each other. We've all heard the advice that we shouldn't start a business with a friend. As we've seen in our episodes, that advice is a myth. One of the things we want everyone to walk away with when listening to Chief Best Friends, is that not all advice applies to us and our relationships. Similarly, we aren't here to preach that you should start a business with a friend but that it is possible. And for some of us, like Rachel and Danella, this works for them. With that said, it's not all rainbows and butterflies. Rachel and Danella joins us in our show today because they know how to make it work even when the business is not working. Yes, they've gone through the ups and downs of starting a business and then going through the painful decision to fold it. They share with us how their friendship was strengthened by these challenges, as well as how, because of their friendship, that they've found each other working together again.WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODEHow friends help us go through hard timesHow to have practical discussions on the future your businessHow friends truly see us and our potential, serving as a mirror to our true selvesHow to use your gut in making decisions in lifeHow success can be defined as how sustainable an endeavour is in the long runHow to be comfortable with your choicesWhy done is better than perfectLINKS AND RESOURCESBooks: Witcher SeriesBook: Strange Weather in Tokyo by Hiromi KawakamiBook: The Power of Intuition How to Use Your Gut Feelings to Make Better Decisions at Work by Gary KleinInspiring women: Kamala Harris, Jacinda Ardern, and momSAY HI AND CONNECT WITH KINTSUGI!Danella on InstagramRachel on InstagramThe Secret Sauce LabENJOYED THIS EPISODE?Leave a review and help others find Chief Best FriendsShare with me on Instagram (@chiefbestfriends)Chat with me on Twitter (@cbfpod)

About Creative CallingIn this book, author Chase Jarvis, the founder of CreativeLive, shows why creativity is the new mindfulness and as important to our health as meditation, exercise, and nutrition. It's also available to everyone-beginners and lifelong creators, entrepreneurs and corporate executives.Jarvis illustrates the critical elements for making creative expression the path to fulfillment with his memorable “IDEA” system to imagine your big dream, design daily practices that support it, execute on your ambitions plans and make your vision real and amplify your impact through communityThe good news, according to Jarvis, is that creativity isn't a skill-it's a habit. It's a force inside every person that wants to be set free and-if harnessed and put to work-can transform our lives and bring vitality to everything we do.You are creative by nature, endowed with a near limitless capacity to make and grow new things.Accessing this capacity requires a kind of creative muscle that must be strengthened to achieve your full potential.By identifying as a creative person, accepting the world around you as your canvas, and manifesting your ideas regularly, you will intuitively create the life you truly want for yourself.Favorite Quotes:“Some people say fake it till you make it. Forget that. Make it till you make it. Creators create. It doesn't matter who you know, what schools you attended, which parties you're invited to, or what you're wearing. Creators create. Action is identity. You become what you do. You don't need permission…“You've got to do the verb to be the noun.”“There is nothing noble, edgy, or cool about being a starving artist.”“Be the hero of your own life. Walk your own path. When obstacles arise, go over, under, or around them. When you lose your way, listen for the call. Your heart will always lead you.”“Your life has two big arcs. The first is about acquisition, acquiring knowledge about yourself and the world - figuring out how to meet your own needs… The second is about contribution. You start thinking about how you can serve others and make a lasting impression on the world. We take, and then we give.”“ You are a creative person. The world is abundant and full of possibilities. Your situation can always be changed. You can use your creativity to create the change you seek. Creativity is natural and healthy but requires practice. Creativity is ultimate personal power.”“Don't think about making art,” he said. “Just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it's good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.”"Creativity is generous, life-changing, mind-altering, and practical as hell. In fact, it's only creating in small ways every day that we come to understand that we can create big changes in our lives when we desire or need them most.""Life gets so much easier once you decide to play your own game. We're taking the holiday week off! Instead of a new episode, we're presenting our very first episode, Done Is Better Than Perfect. Enjoy! Our first episode! Shannon and Janine talk about a basic tenet of embracing good enough: the idea that done is better than perfect. We talk about how getting started and finishing something--even if the result is less than perfect--is so much better than waiting for perfect to come along. Included in the conversation: • How perfectionism can keep you from getting started on a project. • How being willing to make mistakes makes getting to good enough possible. • Strategies for letting go of perfectionism and easing into good enough.

Done Is Better Than Perfect. There are NO truer words. Too many of us want to wait until whatever we are doing is perfect. It doesn't matter if this is an idea, an article, a picture we are painting or a book we are writing. Literally anything... The moment of absolute certainty will never come, you will never be 100% happy and this is what causes so many people not to try. Just do it - get whatever it is out there, you can come back and make changes and enhancements and you can even get feed back from your audience or friends to help improve your end version. Do It ...... NOW!

"Done is better than perfect" is a phrase you've probably heard me say a million times on this podcast, but it's only because I believe in its message so darn much! But, I get it, it is straight up HARD to put yourself out there-- flaws and all- but guys, there will never be a perfect moment! Start today, adjust as needed, and grow! Which is exactly why I couldn't resist asking the adaptability queen, Bethany McDaniel, onto the show. Bethany owns the most incredible, all-natural skincare brand Primally Pure, and has adjusted her sails constantly along the way. In this episode, Bethany tells us how she made the "jump" into pursuing her hobby as a business and how she blew full steam ahead despite the imperfect beginning stages. Not only is her story crazy inspiring, but she also gives her top tips as to how YOU can engage your audience, receive feedback, and GROW your business. We'll cover everything from how to receive your feedback (both good and bad!) all the way to tweaking your product (and BONUS, you'll hear this expert's TOP tips for glowing, radiant skin!) Not only is this super episode relatable-- but is SO important for moving your business forward! As we approach 2018, it's time to live out our mantra: DONE IS BETTER THAN PERFECT. Let's make stuff happen, Goal Diggers.
Calvin Wayman is a professional speaker and social media entrepreneur, and is the best selling author of Fish Out of Water: The Guide To Achieving Breakthrough & Permanently Transforming Into A New You. He’s been featured in Entrepreneur Magazine, The Huffington Post, Social Media Examiner and was named one of the Top 30 Entrepreneurs Under the age of 30 by Influence.com Calvin is also CEO of a very successful social media company – COBBESMEDIA and today he helps explain that there are no secrets in business; the answers are all in front of you, you just need to know where to look. Episode Highlights: When Calvin started his sales career he managed to hold the record for being the worst sales person in the company. Not a record he was proud of, but by studying high-level performers and the successful habits of others, he was able to turn this around and become a top achiever himself. Everything new is uncomfortable: You must accept this feeling as being normal, however many don’t and the tragedy is two-fold; 1) People think there’s something wrong with them and 2) they think there’s a secret they don’t know about yet. This is when people feel like a fish out of water, but eventually you can move from a guppy to a shark if you keep going and never give up. Modeling: You need to model the people who have the results you want, however just modeling won’t fix the problem immediately, there’s a lot of repetition involved once you understand the basic skills. Riding a Bike: All children will learn to ride a bike because their desire to ride is far greater than their fear of failing or falling off…in fact they have no fear of failure because their why is so strong. Why it changes as adults: We worry what other people think and we tend to value others peoples opinion over our own. The School System: Is set up ‘telling us’ that failing is bad…therefore once we leave school and become adults the thought of failure scares us. We can’t fail if we don’t try…but this is not right. Here’s the good news: Once you ‘get it’, you just get it. Success is just like learning to ride the bike; you can’t unlearn it once you know how. Once you become a Shark, you can’t go back and be a Guppy. This is called THE NEW NORMAL CONSISTENT IMPERFECT ACTION - CIA Most people are afraid of messing up so they stay on the sidelines, which is sad. If you wait until you’re ready before you make a move, you’ll never move. If you wait until it’s perfect timing to take action, you’ll never take action. Therefore you’ve got to keep moving forward by doing consistent imperfect action. “Done Is Better Than Perfect”. Check out some of Gary Vaynerchuk’s early videos and you’ll see that he didn’t wait until he was perfect to get started…and look at him today. It may be hard to see yourself being paid $120k for a talk like Gary V gets paid today, but can you see yourself being imperfect on stage? If you can, then that’s where you start today; it’s not about being perfect. My podcast is a perfect example of consistent imperfect action. Too often we see where successful people are now and not where they’ve been or where they started. GET SCHOOLED Most people want to improve their health, finances etc, but we’re often by our selves most of the time, therefore you need to get schooled and be with others with a similar mindset. You need to get around other people that are doing what you want to do. By hanging around people with similar goals and aspirations you can’t help but travel in the same direction…just like a school of fish. Mastermind groups, running groups, etc, they will push you and help you create the new normal. You need to attend 2 and 3-Day events that will attract the type of people you want to associate with. Or join an online business course that has an associated mastermind group on FACEBOOK. SWIM LIKE A SHARK – This is all about Modeling. The sharks are the super-successful people you know (discussed earlier) The advantage of writing a book is it separates you from everyone else in your space. You become an authority and it is a great leverage tool for you personally and for your business. In 2015 Calvin threw in the safety of his job to become an entrepreneur, without any specific plans, which sounds ballsy, but that’s not how Calvin saw it at the time. The fear of not trying was much scarier than throwing in his job and going balls to the wall. He would rather face himself over failure than face himself over regret. What’s the worst possible scenario if you take a chance? Can you live with the consequence? If you can, the risk is worth taking.
