In a much-blessed month of gospel meetings in an old Schoolhouse in Millbrook, Nova Scotia, Canada, in the 1960's, the Lord saved three brothers in one night. A few days later their mother and sister got saved. David Swan relates the fascinating story, which began when a preacher called Fred Holder sent a telegram to another preacher called Doug Howard, saying “I am free for the month of August. How about some gospel meetings?” Readings: John 3:16, 16:7-8, Luke 19:9-10. The post Three Brothers Saved in One Night (22 min) first appeared on Gospel Hall Audio.
Steve Howard was a preacher's son. But that didn't make him a Christian. Born in 1949, he grew up on the East coast of Canada during the days when men like Herb Harris, Fred Holder, John McCracken and his own father Doug Howard, were pioneering gospel work in Newfoundland and the Maritimes. The prayers and tears of Herb Harris made a deep impression on young Steve, as did the “Two Roads Chart”. Another voice to Steve was the phrase John The post Never to Come Back Anymore (38 min) first appeared on Gospel Hall Audio.

In this episode I sit down with friend, Filmore. (Tyler) Filmore moved to Nashville after attending Mizzou in Columbia, MO. I first met him shortly after moving to town when we were introduced by Doug Howard who used to head up A&R at Lyric Street Records and then went on to become the Dean for the College of Music at Belmont University. Filmore signed a major label deal in 2020 and released "State I'm In" and prior to that was also the first independent artist to ever be featured on Spotify's Hot Country cover. He is an incredible singer-songwriter and has opened up for other amazing artists like Sam Hunt, Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Lauren Alaina, Dan+Shay, Pitbull and more. He's also been a featured artist for major festivals such as Country Thunder, Stagecoach, CMA Fest and Watershed. He just released his second LP "Mean Something" on January 13 right after we recorded this podcast. I got a chance to listen to this and it's an incredible LP of 11 songs that you need to check out. In this episode we talk about the steps he went through to build the Filmore brand, how one of his co-writers filed a police report for a guitar that was in a closet, signing a major label deal with Curb Records, leaving a major label deal, touring with Pitbull and how he got his favorite pizza, Imo's pizza, delivered to Pitbull and the crew on tour. Hectic building conditions in 2021 forced builders to rewrite their plans on the fly as they adapted to historic materials scarcity and labor shortages. So how should they prepare for profit and growth in 2022 and beyond? In this episode of “The Building Code,” Zach and Charley learn the best construction goal-setting strategies from Doug Howard of Remodelers Advantage. Doug shares how remodelers and home builders can approach scaling and the ways construction software like Buildertrend can bring goals into reach. HOW WILL THE TURBULENT MARKET AFFECT MY ABILITY TO REACH MY GOALS? “What I really try to do is get folks to think about growth in terms of a five-year plan. I always want to know where people want to be five years out. Even though people say, ‘Well, how can you do that in the crazy world we live in,' I will tell you the people that had five-year plans as they were going through COVID, they at least knew how far off track they were. It was a really good rudder to bring them back in line.” HOW CAN FOCUSING ON QUARTERLY METRICS HELP BUILDERS REACH THEIR FIVE-YEAR GOALS? “We can look at what's going to drive production capacity. ‘Hey, we need another small job,' or ‘we're going to be finishing a big job – we need another one to start in May.' It really translates all these numbers into something actionable, but the really cool thing about it is when someone grows at that pace, and each of those quarters has an escalation, when they get to the fourth quarter, all they really need to do is maintain that level for the next year and they're going to go up in revenue again. They're doing it in a very controlled and a very profitable way, as opposed to, ‘We've sold a bunch, let's go build a bunch. Let's go sell a bunch more – let's try to fit it in.'" Season 2: Episode 1 Linda Edell Howard Song Chronicles launches its second season with a truly unique music insider conversation with Linda Edell Howard. Linda during her high school cheerleading days Linda is an attorney in Nashville who has been an advocate for songwriters and artists over the last 30 years. Her expertise, and the focus of our interview, is in the often-complicated areas of copyrights, publishing, and royalties. In her first-ever podcast interview, she generously gives listeners an enlightening music business primer that any aspiring, or even experienced songwriter, would learn from. Linda discusses the significance of sync, blanket, and mechanical licenses, sources for royalties, and how song credits work — and the ways all of these can bring the songwriter, a "small business owner", as she calls them, money. We talk about how performing rights organizations differ from publishing companies, and how both differ from SoundExchange. Linda Edell Howard with Charlie Daniels One of Howard's specialties is in the field of legacy copyrights, especially termination rights. Her mantra “forever doesn’t mean forever” takes us further to her explanation of how songwriters can use the not-well-known termination laws to recapture the rights to their songs. In her world, people and their circumstances are always changing, and so is the value of a copyright. What does this mean for a music business attorney? Changing circumstances open doors to renegotiation, because as is the case with so many deals songwriters make starting out, no one knew the actual value of their catalog at that time they signed their publishing away. There is a window of time, Howard tells us, where those copyrights can revert back to the songwriter. Linda with Desmond Child You’ll discover the importance of the numbers 56 and 35 for copyrights, and what black box money and gray box money are — and how they can be windfalls for songwriters. This week, we sat down with Doug Howard of Growth Team Strategies to help you and your company handle the Coronavirus outbreak for your business.
Imagine with me for a moment...You are surrounded by complete strangers in a room where everyone seems to know everyone else, chatting merrily and exchanging business cards. You however, are clinging to the bar taking in your surroundings and people watching, studying each of the different cliques starting to form and hedging your bets on where you may best fit in. As time ticks by (and all your networking opportunities) you find yourself hoping that some kind extraverted soul takes pity on you and comes over to chat while simultaneously wishing you were ANYWHERE else but here. You've finally worked up the nerve and unclench your hands from the bar as you walk over and attempt to introduce yourself to the group of strangers you've been watching for the past 20 minutes. As you stand there barely eking out your name, business, and short elevator pitch, you suddenly feel all those sets of eyes staring at you and go red in the face. You fall silent as you begin to worry about your next attempt at the perfect professional, engaging, or witty comment. You listen to the group as they chat with each other for a few minutes and end up silently ghosting the discussion, heading back to the bar for a bit of recovery. The process repeats 3 or 4 more times (on a good day) as networking slowly sucks the life out of you and every single interaction leads zaps energy until you've had enough and head home. If you are an introvert, you know the unspeakable horror of of networking. What seems like an innocent evening of meeting new people and simple conversation suddenly becomes a painful and torturous ordeal. There's a different set of rules for introverts if you want to make the most of networking. I've gotten much better at playing the game but it's taken me a long time to learn how to effectively network as an introvert. Much of my own networking success was from fantastic advice and tips from my podcast producer Doug Howard. He is a master of networking, genuinely loves people, and is a true extrovert in every sense of the word…but his advice to introverts isn't what you'd expect. Join us as we discuss the differences between networking styles, tips specifically for introverts, and how you can use your strengths to make the most of your networking experiences. So stay tuned for my interview with “introvert whisperer” Doug Howard on this episode - Networking For Introverts: Expert Tips from An Extrovert.
