I am highlighting several tools from my time at ISTE. In my second installment, I want to introduce you to Texthelp and Territorium. First, teachers are always looking for ways to engage their students and provide them with opportunities to show their mastery of the material. One way to do this is through the use of technology, Texthelp, and Equatio. Tinashe Blanchet and Kori Perkins explain why these are two great tools that can help teachers achieve this goal. Tinashe and Kori express that with Equatio, students can speak, draw, or type their problems and equations directly onto their devices. This allows them to work through the problem in a way that best suits them, and it also gives teachers the ability to see how each student is approaching the material. Equatio allows students to type in their equations and then see a visual representation of the equation. This can be a helpful tool for students who are struggling to understand the concept of solving equations in math. Both of these tools are great additions to any school's lesson cycle, and they give teachers another way to assess their student's understanding of the material.Secondly, Keith Look of Territorium explains why it has quickly become a global education technology solutions provider, with teachers, students, and schools using its products in over 180 countries. The company's goal is to make learning and skills acquisition more accessible and measurable. Keith informs us that Territorium's solutions enable educators and companies to deliver, test, measure, and record learning in the 21st century. Territorium's use of Blockchain technology solidifies credentialing in education providing an alternative to traditional education portfolios. As a result, the company's products are helping to transform the way teachers teach and students learn. In this episode, we speak to Tinashe Blanchet, Kori Perkins of Text Help/Equatio, and Keith Look of Territorium. These innovative companies are using technology to help students and educators in amazing ways since the pandemic.Podcast Planner for Teachers and StudentsFlipboard EDU Magazine Flipboard Educators Blog Flipboard EDU Podcast Website Connect with me:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coachjeffery/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FlipboardEDUPodcastYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/Coachjeezy/Twitter: https://twitter.com/CoachJefferyLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/coachjeffery/Website: https://coachjeffery.flipedupodcast.com/Support the show

Working across 5 local authorities, Eilidh utilises both G Suite for Education and Office 365 tools within her work. Eilidh is a Google Certified Trainer, and has supported hundreds of practitioners across the UK on their journeys with G Suite for Education. She is also a Google Certified Innovator, having attended the Sweden 2019 innovator academy in November with the noteworthy Steven Hope. Eilidh and Steven recently supported the Google for Education stand at BETT 2020 focusing on Accessibility. Eilidh started off her career as a primary teacher in Aberdeen in 2013. Her school piloted Chromebooks, which sparked Eilidh's interest in digital technologies and, in particular, G Suite for Education. Through trial and error, Eilidh discovered ways in which technologies could be used to support learners at different stages. As a teacher, Eilidh attended training on Texthelp's Read & Write toolbar, Fluency Tutor and Equatio. This opened her eyes to the world of assistive technologies and the importance of utilising technology appropriately to meet all learners' needs. Eilidh progressed to the role of Education Support Officer for Learning Technologies in Aberdeen in 2018, further developing her knowledge of digital technologies across both primary and secondary settings. Hey there! Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look at Assistive Technology, those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs! Over the years we’ve covered several apps for mobile devices to help individuals with math. However, we haven’t discussed a lot of resources […] The post AM362 – EquatIO Chrome Extension appeared first on Assistive Technology at Easter Seals Crossroads.

After their teacher attended a Digital Literacy Network (DLN) workshop, students and staff at Fossil Hill P.S. learned how to use EquatIO and Flipgrid. Students were eager to learn and became the “teachers” with their peers. When students were interviewed about EquatIO in a DLN video, they stated that they felt more confident, and that it helps them with their thinking. The students have also said that using Flipgrid feels safer to them. This technology learning has enabled my students to not only be leaders with a voice, but has helped them to understand that modern learning can be flexible for other academic areas. How often do we hear the sighs from students as soon as math is mentioned? It is not uncommon for students to disengage from math instruction and the reasons are many: they just don’t get it, they do not understand the why for their learning, or maybe they are inundated with worksheets - whatever the case, it is important we change strategies often to engage students and promote their learning and understanding of math. This is where technology opens up many possibilities. In today’s episode we will focus on technology resources for use in the math classroom - Extensions/Add-ons and Websites, the question feature in Google Classroom, and Google Forms. Resources EquatIO Workflow! Chrome extension insert mathematical symbols and expressions dictate mathematical formulas out loud and have EquatIO convert those to written expressions. GeoGebra interactive website and Chrome app graphing, drawing, transforming graphs and more. Easy to use Pattern Shapes Chrome app virtual block patterns manipulate to investigate symmetry, patterns, angles, and fractions. Number Rack (also known as Rekenrek) App found in chrome web store virtual learning space for students to explore grouping possibilities as well as a variety of addition and subtraction strategies. Eureka Math - small group rotations Open Middle website offers problems with the same beginning and same answer but the ‘middle’ is open students can solve in many different ways. Choose one, post in Google Classroom or project on board and have students reasoning and investigating questions with a higher DOK or depth of knowledge. **Critical thinking More resources: ISTE Standard(s) for Educators and Students Newspapers In Education Common Sense Media Find out more about Somethin' To Tech About at: Website Facebook Twitter Email
Have you seen Google for Education’s brochure on 60 Tools to Inspire Students with Chromebooks? It’s an awesome resource that inspired me to make this episode for you! I don’t have time to touch on all 60 tools in one episode, but I’ll chat about the highlights. If you want the entire list, just scroll down! If you need any inspiration for tools to use, this is definitely the episode for you. One of the tools I love is Book Creator. So often, kids are given the same presentation tools over and over, and this tool can help educators break out of that box and offer an alternative to the traditional presentation. If you haven’t used it before, I think CoSpaces Edu will blow your mind! It allows students to build 3D virtual environments, that can then be viewed in virtual or augmented reality. In the literacy and numeracy tools category, I particularly love Flocabulary. You might have already seen some of their videos without even realizing it! Another of my favorite tools in this category is Newsela. This is perfect for finding non-fiction articles that are appropriate for your students. They take news articles from reputable sources, and “translate” them into four different reading levels. Can you tell I’m excited about these tools? I wish I had time to talk about all of them, but I can’t wait to highlight at least a few of my favorites! Tune in to hear about even more apps that I love, in four different categories. In This Episode: [00:28] - Welcome to episode 9 of the Shake Up Learning Show! Kasey explains her inspiration for today’s topic. [01:05] - Kasey sends a shoutout to @AlexTravisITRT on Twitter. [03:18] - Today’s question comes from Julie Cobb, who wants to know if Kasey will be doing any on-air coaching for coaches. [05:02] - It’s time to dive into the tools! Kasey starts off by chatting about one of the Content Creation category tools, Book Creator. [08:15] - Kasey shares another reason that she likes Book Creator so much. [09:16] - Next, Kasey chats about CoSpaces Edu, which allows students to build virtual 3D environments. [12:58] - We learn about another application, Explain Everything. [14:38] - The last content creation tool for today is Adobe Spark. Kasey talks about how powerful it is. [17:48] - Kasey shifts into talking about tools in the Literacy and Numeracy category, starting off with Flocabulary. [20:11] - The next tool that Kasey will chat about today is Newsela, which is great for finding age-appropriate news articles. [23:02] - Kasey talks about EquatIO, which may be perfect for math teachers. [24:50] - We shift gears back from math into reading as we hear about the next tool, Fluency Tutor. [26:03] - The last tool that Kasey wants to talk about in this category is Read&Write for Google. [27:18] - Kasey moves on to talking about the next category, STEAM Tools, and discusses Tynker. [28:24] - We learn about Flat.io, which allows you to collaboratively create sheet music. [29:44] - Code.org is one of Kasey’s favorite coding websites. [31:33] - Kasey talks about Edpuzzle, a tool from the Communication & Understanding category. [33:07] - We hear about Flipgrid, which is now completely free for everyone! [35:08] - Kasey shares her thoughts on Pear Deck, which is a favorite tool of hers (and this episode’s sponsor!). [37:59] - The last communication tool that Kasey will talk about today is Screencastify, which is a Chrome extension that lets you easily record your screen. [40:48] - Ready for the question of the week? Here we go! What are three tools from this week’s episode that you want to try in your classroom, and how will you integrate them into your curriculum? Post your answers on your favorite social media platform using the #ShakeUpLearning hashtag, or share them in the Shake Up Learning Community! [41:44] - Have you thought about getting Google Certified? Kasey can help! She helps educators get certified through her three online courses: The Google Certified Educator Level 1 Academy The Google Certified Educator Level 2 Academy Become a Google Certified Trainer Online Course If you’re interested in taking more than one of these courses, get a bundle to save big! Enrollment only opens twice a year, so sign up when it opens on May 21st or you’ll need to wait until November. If you’re ready to learn more, head to this link! [44:12] - Kasey thanks listeners for tuning in, and offers a way to give back: leave a review (using the word “y’all” if you can squeeze it in!). This helps other teachers find the podcast, and might get you a shoutout on a future episode! In this episode, we’re going in a slightly different direction. Since we’re here to explore the future of educational technology in higher education, we thought it would be interesting to talk with someone who is currently teaching our future students. Stacey Roshan teaches at the Bullis School, an independent K12 school outside of Washington, DC, where she is also the Upper School Technology Coordinator. She’s well known for flipping her math classroom, introducing students to new material before class through online explanatory videos she creates, and spending class time helping students learn math by working problems on their own and in small groups. She uses a variety of technologies in her teaching, all in very intentional ways to help students learn math and learn how to learn. The students we see in our college classrooms don’t come in as blank slates. They have a variety of prior learning experiences. This conversation with Stacey Roshan will provide the Leading Lines audience with a little insight into the kinds of experiences and expectations our future students will have, particularly about the use of technology in learning.
