- Immer her damit! Michael, Rob, and Pax chat about how reading goals affect reading enjoyment, death and funerals, life as a cartoon animal, Matthew Reilly's YA book (The Secret Runners of New York), Old Habits (a Die Hard spec script turned novel), Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent, Floyd Gottfredson's Mickey Mouse comics, The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz, Raymond Chandler's Farewell, My Lovely, current Star Trek comics, and Elvis and Ann-Margret movies.
Guest Hosts: Thad Komorowski & Debbie Perry Greetings listeners! In celebration of Mickey Mouse's birthday, on November 18th, we bring you this episode devoted to the ONLY Mickey Mouse story the Duck Man wrote and drew! The Riddle of the Red Hat is an unusual ten (actually eleven)-pager, and we take advantage of the opportunity to discuss Floyd Gottfredson, the famed Mickey comics artist and plotter that was one of Barks' principal inspirations. We discuss how the artists got involved with Mickey, how Barks found inspiration from Gottfredson, and the two artists' meetings later in life.
Pour conclure ce poscast littéraire, Lorraine présente deux beaux livres : Maps of the Disney Parks: Charting 60 Years from California to Shanghai et From All of Us to All of You The Disney Christmas Cards, parus tous deux en anglais uniquement chez Disney Editions. Surprisingly, or not surprisingly, depending on how far down the road you can see, David E. Kelley’s version of the DC Comics hero got a costume change. VOTE![poll id="175"] VOTE Creature Tech The book tells of the adventures of Dr. Michael Ong, a paranormal scientist and former seminarian, who is given a head researcher’s position at an Area 51-esque laboratory in Turlock, California called Research Technical Institute. In exchange for granting the government the lease to build the facility, the City of Turlock demanded that it be staffed primarily by locals. Ong’s task is to open, catalog, and classify each of the hundreds of crates in the facility’s warehouse. Many of the artifacts found inside are proven to be highly dangerous and thoroughly insane…Russian teleporter technology, aliens, mutants, even a were-pig. Thanos vs. Darkseid VOTE MAJOR SPOILERS DISCUSSION: Blacksad The story is set in a film noir environment, in the USA of the late 1950s. All the characters are anthropomorphic animals (female characters are often much more anthropomorphized, though it varies depending on the animal.), their specific species reflecting their personality and their part in the story. For example, nearly all the policemen are canid, usually German Shepherds, Bloodhounds, Foxes or Scottish Terriers. The strip is made with a rather dirty-realist outlook, a dark cinematic style and fairly clean, realistic lines. Coupled with the truly lavish and time-consuming drawing, done in watercolor, the strip appears very realistic indeed despite using animals. The quality of the drawing has improved noticeably throughout the series, with sharper, higher-quality colour and fewer grainy lines in later issues.
