Kelly Hale began as the new General Manager of Hot Springs Village on February 1, 2022. He's still well within the first 100 days of a new career. And many new challenges. Kelly joins us today to discuss growing up in northern Louisiana, moving to Phoenix, then Canada. Eventually, he wound up in Kansas City where he worked, went to school, and happened at a recruiting table for United Parcel Service. His dad thought UPS was part of the U.S. Postal Service that delivered the big packages. Little did he, or his father, know it would set Kelly on a 37-year career with a Fortune Top 100 company. Kelly and his wife, Mary Ann, moved to Hot Springs Village after Kelly retired. It was time to get off the road, something Kelly had done consistently for over 20 years. That was just last April (2021). In November 2021 the Hales moved into their newly built home and in short order, Kelly wound up being drawn to the General Manager position. We talk about all that and more in today's show with Hot Springs Village's current General Manager, Mr. Kelly Hale. • Join Our Free Email Newsletter • Subscribe To The Podcast Anyway You Want • Subscribe To Our YouTube Channel (click that bell icon, too) • Join Our Facebook Group • Tell Your Friends About Our Show • Support Our Sponsors

A conversation with Alex Mitrovich, CEO Unique.network Alex Mitrovich is both an investor and an entrepreneur, but the latter definitely comes first. “More specifically I am an entrepreneur in the tech space and have been so for the past 20 years. I understand tech without being a developer. I understand the opportunities.” This is clearly reflected in his previous enterprise, Luxoft, which he built with his partner over ten years into a global operation and into one of the Fortune Top 500 companies. Next up UseTech, formed in 2017 with co-founder and CTO, Gregory Zaitsev, which has been busy building blockchain projects ever since for its clients. The blockchain penny dropped for Mitrovich around 2016. A good friend of his and successful tech entrepreneu, Zoe Adamovitzwas posting blockchain stories on Facebook. It made him do some digging and very soon he understood that blockchain had the potential to be mainstream. He looked at the different chains, offering faster, cheaper, better solutions. He worked on different projects, upskilling his team and figuring out which chain was going to pop. He admired Ethereum but recognised its main asset is the network effect of the community. “It's hard to stand out in a crowded market.” Accordingly, when Mitrovich decided to step directly into the NFT space he already had his seasoned team of developers headed up by Zaitsev on board. And as a startup in PolkaDot, he came armed to the teeth. Mind you, he admits the deeply technical nature of PolkaDot hurts his head. “But I could see the power of the emerging community, the beauty of the Web 3 Foundation and the endless flexibility of Substate as a building block." Have you ever left something that was safe and comfortable in order to push yourself? Taken a leap of faith, even though there wasn't clear evidence it would pan out? Broken the mold and made a decision that was counterintuitive to what most would think? That's what Gordon Daugherty did when he left a Fortune 500 company to join smaller companies in order to drive the learner in him. Gordon used his experience from growing up as a competitive swimmer to build self-confidence that he relied on when he faced terrifying risks and put the weight of a company's success on his shoulders. As a leader, you don't just lead and/or manage, you are a teacher. At least you should be, according to Dr. Thomas DeLong. Tom is the Baker Foundation Professor of Management Practice in the Organizational Behavior unit at Harvard Business School and author of Teaching By Heart – One Professor's Journey to Inspire. He joins Kevin and reflects on his experiences in both academia and managing. In his opinion, the best teachers are aware of the needs of their students/their employees. If you define your success on your list and the tasks accomplished, others will always come second. Leaders need to be authentic and empathetic, as well as modeling the behavior they want to see. For example, don't just talk about your culture. Listen and connect with your team to build the culture and create moments of transformation. In this episode, Tom shares his thoughts about 1.
