Dating is complicated. Not to mention dating on the apps! And for LGBTQI+ folks on the African continent, where many countries criminalise queerness, it's even MORE complicated. We asked reporters in Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Kenya and Namibia to share how they navigate the highs and lows of seeking romance, community and friendship online. Despite all the pitfalls, love calls out to all of us. Are negative experiences from your past preventing you from thriving today? Like many, I didn't realize how past negative or traumatic experiences were affecting my present life, and I felt stuck in a cycle of distress. I had created a cycle of self-sabotaging I didn't even realize. In today's episode, my good friend and personal resiliency coach Lisa Pinney joins me to discuss how we all can take steps towards healing with practical tools and techniques to help you regain control over your life. We want to help you learn how to process, heal, and move on from the pain so that you can find peace, joy and clarity in life. “It's impossible to process emotional pain with rational thinking.” Some of what we discuss is like a coaching session: Identifying Self-Care Strategies to Promote Positive Emotional Well-Being. Facing pain of past experiences, ways to cope with negative experiences. •importance of self awareness of our emotional needs, being reflective and doing the heart work •recognize how we reinforce negative experiences by repeating them in my every day conversations. •why we cannot ignore or avoid painful emotions or memories •common false or limiting beliefs •recognizing the inner critic that “should” do this or that •recognize unhealthy coping strategies such as self-protection, self-sabotaging, procrastination… •what negative story are you telling yourself •what is motive behind behavior or actions •how to get curious about how you are feeling Spiritual growth and emotional wellness are connected. Is it well with your soul? Have you ever been taught HOW to process your strong emotions and experience health and wholeness? 3 John 2:1 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. The King James Version begins the verse with John saying ”Beloved, I wish above all things…” Transformation is an inside out process. Often we can focus on disciplining ourselves to look at our thoughts and renewing our mind, but often have an intellectual approach. (Romans 12:2) Renewing our minds is not just memorizing Scripture, and taking our thoughts captive. We must process our emotional needs and limiting beliefs, or we can become stuck, unable to move forward into all that God has purposed for us. In this episode, my husband, Fred and I discuss the importance of a thriving soul, where we examine our emotions, become self-aware, then connect with God to experience healing and wholeness. Key Scriptures: Ecclesiastes 3:4 “a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,” Luke 1:29-47 (Mary's response) John 2:1-12 (First miracle of Jesus) Philippians 4:6-7 I want to help you live at a higher level where your soul (mind, will emotions, imagination) thrives, so you can experience a prosperous life. For this year's 'Lezmas Special', we are joined by author, academic, and oral history expert Jane Traies, who tells us about her relationship to Christmas, Christmas routines but also Christmas taboos. She generously opens a window into her journey and work with lesbian refugee communities. There are reflections on the notions of shame and pride, citizenship, legal discrimination, what it takes to do oral history work, and the ethics of being a conduit for voices of the usually 'unheard'. She also talks about what her work has taught her about herself, as well as what it takes to prove to the Home Office that you're an 'Expert' in all things to do with Older Lesbians.Things mentioned in this Episode:'Free To Be Me' ; Lesbian Immigration Support Group; 'Liberty' by Jay Taverner; 'Now You See Me'; Jackie Forster; Charlotte Charke; Ann ListerSend Jess a tip via her virtual TipJar to support the podcast :https://tpjr.us/alesbianaffairpodcast

Faith Myers shares her story of being born into a powerful family of faith only to have it turn on a dime. The home of ministry turned quickly into a place of dysfunction. What the enemy meant for evil has turned to produce a great Bible teacher and woman of great compassion and love. Not knowing the truth about her identity or personality, Faith allowed the Lord to use the hard and confusing times to teach great lessons of His faithfulness!

The third message in the Free to be me series at Hope Community Church on March 3/4, 2018 with Donnie Peters. We all want to be free. Freedom isn’t just something that we value as a nation; it is an essential aspect of being a follower of Jesus. To really be free, we can’t worry about what others think or say about us, or even what we believe about ourselves. To truly be free, we need to know who God says we are.
