Ever wonder how hip-hop was actually born? "Rubble Kings" takes us back to the 1970s South Bronx, a neighborhood abandoned by the city and ruled by more than 100 street gangs engaged in all-out turf wars. After the shocking murder of peace counselor Black Benji in 1971, something remarkable happened—rival gang leaders met at the historic Hoe Avenue Peace Meeting and decided to put down their weapons. What followed was amazing: former enemies started throwing block parties instead of punches, and from those streets of transformation came the beats, rhymes, and moves we now call hip-hop. Through incredible archival footage and stories told by the gang members themselves, we witness how creativity flourished in the most unlikely place. Topics discussed:☠️ A Product of the Environment: The 1970s South Bronx, plagued by urban decay and government abandonment, had over 100 street gangs with approximately 11,000 members who controlled nearly every neighborhood

The Ghetto Brothers were one of thousands of street gangs that skulked the busted-ass neighborhoods of the Bronx in leather vests during the 1970's. I think they are the only one that formed a band though. Power Fuerza is the lone musical relic left behind by the good-guy gang known as the GB's.

Playlist;(sintonía) THE GHETTO BROTHERS “Viva Puerto Rico libre” (Power fuerza, 1972)THE GHETTO BROTHERS “Girl from the mountain” (Power fuerza, 1972)THE GHETTO BROTHERS “Got this happy feeling” (Power fuerza, 1972)THE GHETTO BROTHERS “There is something in my heart” (Power fuerza, 1972)D. Kris talks about the new podcast Can You Dig It? with narrator Chuck D of Public Enemy, along with both producers to discover the untold origins of Hip Hop. The story is told through a blend of immersive reenactments, oral history and expert discussion, Can You Dig It? is as illuminating for hip-hop fans as it is for history buffs, as one of the great American stories.About the Can You Dig It? Podcast:How did hip-hop happen? To understand that, we have to go back to before the ‘birth' of the culture. It wasn't a given that the Bronx of the late 1960s and early 1970s would be the birthplace of an American art form. Urban renewal had left the borough neglected and in crisis. Gangs policed the streets, and winding up in the wrong territory could have serious consequences. But things were about to change. Can You Dig It? is an in-depth history of how positive community influences helped inspire the troubled youth to end the cycle of gang violence, as told by people who were there at the time. It's the inspiring true story of how local gang the Ghetto Brothers rejected calls for war in the aftermath of the murder of Black Benjie–a member who was trying to find common ground–and how gang leaders Yellow Benjy and Karate Charlie worked to broker a peace with rivals. The end result? A place where urban artistry could flourish into a global culture fifty years strong: hip-hop.Narrated by Public Enemy's Chuck D and told through a blend of immersive reenactments, oral history and expert discussion, Can You Dig It? is as illuminating for hip-hop fans as it is for history buffs, as one of the great American stories. It's a tribute not just to community action but to the unsung heroes who paved the way for greatness.©2023 PB and J Productions, LLC (P)2023 Audible Originals, LLC--Can You Dig It? is availible to listen to NOW on Audible Originals - CLICK HERE For more from Chuck D - Visit his website MrChuckD.comFor more from Producers Bryan Master & Pete Chelala - Visit their website PB&J Productions--About the Podcast: ‘TEXT PROSE AND ROCK N ROLL'- is the only podcast dedicated to the written account of musicians. Quand on pense «gangs» on pense The Wire ou Gangs of New York. Extraits sonores Frankie Cutlass, Puerto RicoFat Joe, FlowJoeJust Ice, Gangster Style RapSyko, Ten CuidadoTego Calderon, AbayardeChinx Drugz ft. Episode 3: Joe Conzo Joe Conzo has been described as the man who took Hip-Hop's baby pictures but his story is much richer than that. A Bronx New York native that came of age in the 1970's he was the man capturing the birth of the Hip-Hop scene as depicted in the book ‘Born In The Bronx'. If you have seen pictures of early Hip-Hop then you have seen photos by Joe. After a couple of tough years where he had troubles with addiction and became homeless he turned his life around training as a nurse and then becoming a medic with the New York Fire Department and even being one of the many on the ground during the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centre.
