Bronx-born producer Buckwild was, and continues to be, instrumental in this ever-growing movement. For the past few years, hip-hop producer, Buckwild, has contributed a countless amount of classics to a game that's a mere 20 years into its prime. Alumni of the D.T.I.C.(Diggin' in the Crates) school of beat making, Buckwild-a former DJ-first earned a respectable reputation as one of New York City's most bought mix-tape DJ's in the early 90's. Under the guidance of his neighbors/mentors and fellow established artist Lord Finesse of Diamond D, Buckwild made the jump from DJ to producer with 1993's "Shit Is Real" featuring both Diamond, Finesse along with Sadat X of Brand Nubian. The song would be the first of many underground classics constructed at the hands of Buckwild.  A year later, Buckwild provided the unforgettable backdrop for O.C. for what became the classic, "Times Up". Soon thereafter, Buck found himself remixing tracks for underground mainstays, such as Funk Doobiest, ("Rock On"), The Alcoholiks ("Damn") and Artifacts ("C'mon Wit Da Get Down" w/ Busta Rhymes) to name a few. By 1995 it was clear as day; artist requested a "Buckwild Remix" on their single releases. Buckwild's remix clout soon blossomed into album cut request. For the next few years, Buckwild conjured up a slew of classic backgrounds for underground delegates such as Mic Geronimo, Organized Konfusion, O.C. as well as Capone-N-Noreaga just to name a few. An advance in Buckwild's already promising career took place in1996 when he provided the late, great Notorious B.I.G. with the mellow exotic-backdrop for "Story To Tell", off the multi-platinum release, Life After Death. The song became one of the greatest rap-tales in hip-hop history. Soon thereafter Buckwild accommodated memorable backgrounds for legends like Jay-Z, Kool G. Rap and the late Big Pun, respectively. Just when the world thought they'd heard the Bronx vet at his peek, Buckwild supplied Bad Boy Artist Black Rob, with the precise background for an idea Black Rob had named "Whoa". Sure enough, the aptly titled, "Whoa", became the biggest record of 2000 and helped push a mildly anticipated album towards platinum status. That same year, Buckwild was named one of The Source Magazine's Producers of the Year. Having supplied Bad Boy with some of its most memorable hits, Buckwild was given a position among P.Diddy's prestigious Hit Men; a group of producers who supply P.Diddy with his chart topping sound. At the dawn of the new millennium, Buck continues to push towards the next level heights by working with an array of artists. Not one to forget his roots, Buckwild continues to provide the established and the non-established with outstanding backdrops that provide a particular feel for each respected artist; thus continuing to push this hip-hop-movement toward the new century.  Support the showWEBSITE AND MERCH! - http://www.officialchopshoppod.com

In this one, Cody talks to Christopher Michlig. He's a visual artist and a professor at the University of Oregon, and he recently released a book titled "File Under: Slime." In it, he traces the origins of the idea of slime back to the early 1900s, with associations to ectoplasm, femininity, and sexuality. In his research, he found that people like HP Lovecraft and John Paul Sartre helped solidify the concept of slime within philosophy and pop culture, paving the way for it to be an analog, or a proxy, for describing the unknown. In the 1950s, for example, there were movies like "The Blob," representing the social anxiety surrounding the atomic bomb. And then in the 1980s — with movies like "The Stuff," "Street Trash," and "The Toxic Avenger" — slime represented a fear of toxicity or the handling of toxic waste. Christopher says that what we choose slime to represent evolves over time. More recently, it has entered rap music through artists like N.O.R.E, from Capone-N-Noreaga, and newer guys like Young Thug. The way these rappers are using the word “slime” is different than how it's been used in the past. It's positive, it's a substitute for friend or homie.   Christopher grew up in Girdwood, Alaska, in the ‘80s. He remembers it being a small town back then, maybe about 400 to 500 people. It's a place that instilled in him the idea of closeness and the importance of a supportive community, sentiments that continue to inspire and influence him. Recently, he's been doing research on different Aleutian communities, trying to get a better grasp on his family history. He has roots, on his dad's side, in the Aleutian Islands, before the Russian fur trade. He says it's been a difficult process, that it's confusing for him because of the complicated history of Aleutian communities as a result of colonialism and the displacement that occurred during and after World War II. How people who had been living in a place for generations were forced to upend their ancestral ways of living. So, he tries to imagine — even project himself — to the time of his ancestors on the Island of Unga. Without much oral history from his own family to go off of, his research is helping him better understand where he comes from.   PHOTO / Ilka Sankari

B. Cox commemorates Capone-N-Noreaga's debut album The War Report as it turns 25. In the midst of an identity crisis for New York rap, the two Queens natives arrived on the scene - unheralded, yet determined. After appearing the "Unsigned Hype" section of The Source Magazine in 1995, the duo was signed to a record label and began recording their debut. In the midst of recording, Capone was jailed for a parole violation, leaving Noreaga to finish the album. Assisted with features by the likes of Juice Crew veteran Tragedy Khadafi, Imam T.H.U.G, and Mobb Deep with a Who's Who's of hip-hop producers (Six July, Nashiem Myrick, Lord Finesse, Clark Kent, Marley Marl, Havoc, Naughty Shorts, EZ Elpee, Charlemagne), the album featured haunting, gritty and hypnotic beats over lyrics that told tales of street life and urban decay. The appeal of the group to underground and hardcore hip-hop fans alike lead to a cult success of the album. Despite no charting singles or widely circulated music videos, the album was certified gold. Since its release, it has been credited as an album that reasserted the identity and sound of New York hip-hop, laid the groundwork for the success of many who followed after it and has now been hailed as a classic - even from the most unlikely of circumstances.Visit The Vault Classic Music Reviews Onlinewww.vaultclassicpod.comSupport The Vault Classic Music Review on Buy Me A Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/vaultclassicpodShow NotesAlbumism: Capone-N-Noreaga's Debut Album "The War Report" turns 25 | Anniversary Retrospectivehttps://albumism.com/features/tribute-celebrating-25-years-of-capone-n-noreaga-the-war-reportThe BoomBox: Capone-N-Noreaga's "The War Report" Brought Listeners to the Frontlines of the streetshttps://theboombox.com/capone-n-noreagas-the-war-report-20-years-later/Vibe: 20 Years Later: A Ranking of Capone-N-Noreaga's Classic Debut "The War Report" https://www.vibe.com/music/music-news/capone-n-noreaga-the-war-report-20-years-519554/WhatWentRight: What Went Right With...The War Report by Capone-N-Noreaga? https://whatwentrightwith.com/2017/06/17/what-went-right-with-the-war-report-by-capone-n-noreaga/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-vault-classic-music-reviews-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

We've wanted to speak to Buckwild for a long time. His name often comes up in our Rap Nerd conversations, and the legacy of D.I.T.C. is something that fans or critics cannot quantify. Buck graciously spared some of his time to go through his career and life highlights. As expected, we talked about his classic work on 'Word... Life' and 'Jewelz' by O.C., 'Nineteen Ninety Now' by Celph Titled, 'Life Story' by Black Rob, 'Between A Rock & A Hard Place' by Artifacts, his 'Diggin In The Crates' remixes and more. What shines through the most is his appreciation for his supporters and how blessed he feels to be able to contribute to music in a meaningful way. Sales and plaques aside, Buckwild is a gift to the world and one of Hip Hop's most enduring talents.    You can hear more from Buckwild in our upcoming podcast series celebrating the 25th anniversary of 'The War Report' by Capone-N-Noreaga. Quand on pense «gangs» on pense The Wire ou Gangs of New York. Access ist fest verankert im deutschen HipHop-Biz und 2. läuft bei ihm! https://soundcloud.com/access-newdef https://soundcloud.com/deejay-xkap https://www.facebook.com/Access44 https://www.facebook.com/DJ.Xkap https://www.newdef.de/ http://www.soulbox-party.de/ https://www.facebook.com/SOULBOXDRESDEN If you like our podcast and want to get more information about Infinite Sequence give us a like on facebook: facebook.com/infinitesequencedd

He explains how the music came together with Producer "P Soulist" and what inspired the Album Title and significance of the Album Cover. Squeegie also takes the time to answer the question "What it would take for the average Hip Hop fan to wake up and demand more substance from Artists?", while also recognizing the negative outcomes of following fraudulent Rappers and valuing the importance of Conscious lyrics over hustle and business in Hip Hop. Host Cril also talks to Squeegie about lines referenced from his tracks "Step Brovaz, Saturdayz and Negro 911" that reflect on thought provoking topics dealing with Self reflection, the misconceptions of the "Hood", the perception of the "Real Nigga" and more. Indeed this was an insightful interview and if you're a fan of that authentic NY Hip Hop sound reminiscent of artists like Wu-Tang Clan, Tragedy Khadafi, Capone-N-Noreaga and others alike, I think you'll enjoy Squeegie O's new LP "From Niggaz to Godz". In addition, his lyrics are consistently thought provoking and conscious minded, questioning the degrading aspects of the Hip Hop industry and its impact on the today's generation. I certainly hope that this interview will inspire you to check out his music if you haven't heard it already, and enhance your appreciation for him as an artist if you have. Either way, I hope you enjoy!

I found out that some of the grimiest, best and classic songs of my lifetime used her music as well as some new discoveries that I was unaware of. This mix is a celebration of Aretha’s music & her profound impact on Hip-Hop since the very beginning stages as well as a tribute to some great producers in the game like DJ Premier, Kanye West, Havoc, Prince Paul, Erick Sermon, Ayatollah, DJ Muggs & Q-Tip to name a few. Whether it was a bassline, piano chop, a simple sound from one of her incredible musicians or a vocal clip sped up or otherwise chopped and flipped…every song on this mix has a piece of Aretha in it. I don’t post tracklists, but it’s 90 minutes of great Hip-Hop from the likes of Dr. Dre, Public Enemy, Cam’Ron, Jay-Z, L The Headtoucha, Heavy D, Bee Why, Dysfunkshunal Famly, Bundy, Kanye West, Slum Village, EPMD, Cypress Hill, Wu-Tang Clan, Czarface, Roc Marciano, Sir Michael Rocks, Blackstar, 3rd Bass, Mobb Deep, Capone N Noreaga,Tragedy Khadafi, Sean Price, Muneshine, Termanology, KRS-One, Poor Righteous Teachers, Styles P, Pharoahe Monch, Bizzie Boyz, Nas, De La Soul, Dead Prez & Onyx…not necessarily in this order, but do the math if you want and/or just enjoy…

The hip-hop activist known as DJ EFN has been widely acknowledged as “Miami’s mixtape king” for the last ten years and more. And while he’s certainly earned that title, a comprehensive appreciation of EFN’s work as a hip-hop entrepreneur might persuade you that it makes more sense to consider him as “Miami’s answer to Russell Simmons.” Not yet 40 years old, E is now marking his 20th anniversary in the game, a career that’s seen him distinguish himself as a club and radio deejay, street promoter, artist manager, label executive, record producer, record pool founder, fashion retailer, and film producer. Most of these activities have been conducted under the Crazy Hood brand. “When I was getting started in the early Nineties, the uniform for a hip-hop kid was a hoodie,” E explains. “The crazy part has to do with me. I was a teenager then and, like many teenagers, I felt a bit out of my mind. Luckily, I had a loving single mother and decided to put my energy into the arts, where I could express my frustrations without hurting anyone.” E’s particular mission has been to represent a strain of gritty local hip-hop music that has more in common with New York rap than with the party music for which Miami is best known. He thinks of his turf as Miami’s “underground” hip-hop scene. In an interview with Julia Beverly for Ozone magazine in 2005, the rapper Garcia, who records for EFN’s Crazy Hood label, could have been speaking for E when he said, “South Beach is just a tourist town, with frozen drinks and girls with fake boobs and everybody wants to be famous. It’s a fun place to party and a good place to break a record, but it’s not Miami. That’s like going to Cancun and saying you’ve been to Mexico.” But if DJ EFN doesn’t want to be lumped in with the hip-hoppers of Miami Beach, he’s also not a wanna-be New Yorker. Indeed, when E made his first mixtape, in 1993, he did so, he says, “because I was really pissed off that there was no consistent mixtape dj in Miami, no one who ever really played the music from Miami. Everybody listened to DJ Clue or Tony Touch. It was good music, but I didn’t want to hear shouts to Brooklyn or the Bronx. I wanted to shout out Miami and help to put on the local cats.” The part of Miami that EFN calls home is Kendall, the unincorporated community in Miami-Dade County where he grew up and continues to reside. It numbers about 75,000 souls, the majority of whom speak Spanish as a first language. These include many Cubans, of course, but also significant numbers of Colombians, Nicaraguans, Peruvians, and Venezuelans. “My mother moved us to Kendall from Los Angeles in 1986, following my father, who had moved here ahead of us,” recalls E. E released his first Crazy Hood mixtape the year he graduated from high school, during a period he remembers as “a golden age for local b-boys and b-girls” that has somehow been “left out of the history books and denied its proper recognition.” Over the next two decades he produced 42 volumes of the mixtape, featuring not only Miami-based artists, but such national stars as Outkast, Redman, Capone-N-Noreaga, KRS-One, Wu-Tang, Ja Rule, Sean Paul, Joe Budden, Lil Jon, Ghostface Killa, Bun B, Keith Murray, and David Banner. Ever inclined to support the international brotherhood of hip-hop djs, both locally and globally, E founded Miami’s Crazy Sounds Record Pool in 1997 (it enjoyed a ten-year run) and Hood DJs, a global coalition. Formal recognition of the importance of this work first occurred in 2002, when EFN was named the Best New Mixtape DJ at the 7th Annual Justo Awards. The following year he was named Best Mixtape DJ at First Annual Miami Urban Music Awards. The effectiveness of E’s street promo for his Crazy Hood mixtapes eventually attracted the attention of various national brands on the lookout for some help with their products in the Miami market. Over the years, C.H.P. Marketing and Promotions has counted Tommy Boy, Slip-N-Slide, Loud Records, Epic, Coca-Cola...

Five years after the Capone-n-Noriega Reunion album (2000), Capone is set to release his second solo record on Pain, Time, and Glory Enterprises. "Menace II Society" will be released in 2006, and features Scarface and , Norega,The album also features some hot producers, including the Heatmakerz, Twinz, Screwface, Nexxus Entertainment, Reefa, Dub Z and DJ Absolut. I am definitely excited about this album; it's time for the game to see what I've been doing. I want to dedicate this album to the hood because the hood kept me afloat all these years. Every song on this album is real whether party or pain, it's time for the PTG experience," says Capone. Capone was one-half of the Queens based powerhouse Capone-N-Noreaga, a duo which sold over 1 million albums in their short-lived career. Shortly before finishing the recording of their debut album, War Report (1997), Capone was sent to prison for breaking parole on a weapons charge, but War Report became an underground hit and went gold.
