In this episode we get to meet Tunde Adebimpe. Tunde is best known as one of the co-founders, singers, and songwriters of the influential indie rock band TV On the Radio. But now he has a debut solo LP called Thee Black Boltz, and this conversation, we talk a lot about how this record came to be, a process that included rescuing some archival recordings and crafting brand new work. We also touch on TV on the Radio's legacy and their "reunion" tour. Then we, of course, talk about Tunde's film work (as he is also an accomplished actor), including his recent role on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and his time making one of my all-time favorite films, Jonathan Demme's Rachel Getting Married. Esta semana, dedicamos una nueva sesión de Rebelión Sónica, al primer álbum del cantante estadounidense Tunde Adebimpe “Thee Black Boltz”, además de material de su banda madre, TV On The Radio. “Thee Black Boltz”, editado el 18 de abril por el sello Sub Pop, fue producido por Tunde Adebimpe y Wilder Zoby, y el productor ejecutivo fue Zoby, con producción adicional y contribuciones de Jaleel Bunton y Jahphet Landis de TV on the Radio. De acuerdo al texto de promoción, “"Thee Black Boltz" es la desesperada captura de Adebimpe de pequeños momentos de alegría en medio de la disonancia y la tristeza (…). Hacer este álbum, dice, fue su manera de procesar todo: “Era mi manera de construirme una roca o una plataforma en medio de este maldito océano””. Adebimpe agrega que “las chispas de inspiración/motivación/esperanza que brotan en medio -y a veces como resultado- de un profundo dolor, depresión o desesperación. Algo así como electrones que se acumulan en nubes de tormenta y chocan hasta que disparan un rayo e iluminan una salida, aunque sólo sea por un segundo”.
