Playlist;(sintonía) DEX ROMWEBER “Andrieux boogie” (Good thing goin’, 2023)DEX ROMWEBER “Going down” (Good thing goin’, 2023)DEX ROMWEBER “Good thing goin’” (Good thing goin’, 2023)ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK “Good thing goin’” (1969)DEX ROMWEBER “If you love me” (Good thing goin’, 2023)EDITH PIAF “Hhymne a l’amour” (1950)DEX ROMWEBER “Coming home” (Good thing goin’, 2023)JOHNNY HORTON “Coming home” (1956)DEX ROMWEBER “For all we know” (Good thing goin’, 2023)HAL KEMP and HIS ORCHESTRA “For all we know” (1934)DEX ROMWEBER “Shape of things to come” (Good thing goin’, 2023)DEX ROMWEBER “Twine time” (Good thing goin’, 2023)ALVIN CASH and THE CRAWLERS “Twine time” (1964)DEX ROMWEBER “Tell Laura I love her” (Good thing goin’, 2023)RAY PETERSON “Tell Laura I love her” (1960)BERT KAEMPFERT “I found my love” (1974)DEX ROMWEBER “I found my love” (Good thing goin’, 2023)Escuchar audio

It's Volume 123 of Sounds Like Radio and we find our hero being run ragged with nightly dates. Why? Bullard (Gale Gordon) is still competing for Gildy's girlfriend, Katherine Milford (Kathy Lewis, "Deidra" of the TV show Hazel) by going out on nightly double dates with Gildy, Katherine, Bullard and a girl Bullard takes along. Gildy's pooped but is too afraid to admit it. Oh boy, quite a situation, and a very funny show with one of the funniest endings to a Gildy show I've heard. Your Humble Host says no more except we have some fine music today to assist in this little predicament. Johnny Cash, Kay Starr, Madeleine Peyroux all describe how Gildy feels, Bing Crosby tells us when it's best to rest, Hal Kemp and Skinny Ennis sing of the joys of a date, Jaye P. Morgan's on hand to wake up the boys and BONUS song time Pepino DiCapri sings (in English) from the soundtrack of a classic Italian movie of the early '60's Il Sorpasso translated-The Easy Life. The picture featured with today's show is a colorized picture Your Humble Host did from the movie Il Sorpasso. The movie is in b/w but after colorizing it I wish the whole movie was in color. Oh yeah, we got a goodie here and it's all for you!

Date with the Angels is an American sitcom that aired on ABC from May 10, 1957, to January 29, 1958. The series, which stars Betty White and Bill Williams, began as a late season replacement for The Ray Anthony Show for the same sponsor, Chrysler's Plymouth division. Tom Kennedy was the show's announcer and spokesman for Plymouth. Synopsis. The series revolves around newly married Vicki Angel and her insurance salesman husband Gus Angel who get themselves and their friends and neighbors into various comedic situations. Besides Betty White and Bill Williams, the series also featured for several episodes Richard Deacon, Richard Reeves, Maudie Prickett and Burt Mustin. Among the series' guest stars were Nancy Kulp, Madge Blake, Joan Vohs, Chuck Connors, Reta Shaw, Dave Willock, Sid Melton, Russell Hicks, Hugh O'Brian, Hanley Stafford, and Willard Waterman. The show's theme song was "Got A Date With An Angel", a semi-standard introduction in 1932 and long associated with the orchestra of Hal Kemp. Date with the Angels was loosely based on the Elmer Rice play Dream Girl, and the series was originally intended to revolve heavily around Vicki's daydreaming tendencies, with more than half of a typical episode dedicated to fantasy sequences. However, the sponsor was not pleased with the fantasy elements and successfully exerted pressure to have them eliminated. "Without our dream sequences," White later said, "our show flattened out and became just one more run-of-the-mill domestic comedy[...]I can honestly say that was the only time I have ever wanted to get out of a show." The series produced 33 filmed episodes before it was canceled in late January 1958. White fulfilled her series commitment by reviving her previous live variety/comedy show, The Betty White Show, for the rest of the season.

Four tracks from Bob Skyles and his Skyrockets- Swinging with the accordion man, I want to live in Loveland and Swing it Mr drummer man. Classic Kendrick Brothers catchy fun from 1938. Donald Peers is a new artist to me. He had a long career and had his own TV show in the 1960s. He sings the lovely- After the sun's kissed the world goodbye.  We love daft records here and Al and Pete Livingstone provide that very thing in Eleven more months and 10 more days. Its on the the budget label, Mayfair. Also Frankie Laine, Benny Goodman with vocals by Peggy Lee, Geraldo with vocals by the Doreen Villiers, Hal Kemp with My troubles are over(1928). I play both sides of a Andy Kirk and his clouds of Joy record. Kirk ran the band from the back row and the orchestra was heavily influenced by two women, June Richmond who sings and conducts on Take those blues away and Mary Lou Williams who composed the second song Scratching the gravel. Williams was a pianist and composer, friend and influence to so many major stars, musicians and band leaders. Two tracks also from Jean Goldkette- Pretty girl stomp and So tired. That last track was recorded on 12/12/ 1927 and has vocals by Hoagy Carmichael. Goldkette has a fascinating history. Born in France, well it may have been Greece. Father was unnamed but his mother was a Danish circus performer. He moved to the US and had a long, successful career. Penultimate record is- If I had a talking picture of you. Such an evocation of the new phenomenon of talking pictures.  Rodman Lewis does a delightful version. Lewis sang under 29 different aliases. We finish with Bob and the boys and Moonlight Waltz.  Stay safe one and all.

So up next is Danish Folk Dance and Gujarati film music from 1950. The Barmy Brothers sing 'Puss, Puss, Puss,' 1933. Could find nothing out about them. Neither could I about Kirk Stevens and his very 1950s rendition of Forevermore. Emile Vacher was certainly well known. Deemed the creator of 'Bas Musette.' Very French accordion music. We go out with two Mugsy Spanier tracks- 'At the jazz band ball' and Lonesome Road. Both from 1939. Great and a great trumpet player.

This week has more songs from the records of the series The Uncollected. Today I am featuring The Uncollected Raymond Scott 1944 and The Uncollected Skinnay Ennis 1946-1948. Raymond Scott's music is some of the most heard in the world after he sold his catalog to Warner Bros. and Carl Stalling used it in his cartoons. Skinnay Ennis was a popular vocalist who after launching his career in the Hal Kemp orchestra went on to lead a band of his own. There are some nice arrangements in this set. I hope you enjoy the music from the mid 1940's of Raymond Scott and Skinnay Ennis. Please visit this podcast at http://bigbandbashfm.blogspot.com

The Bandleaders from the swing era led an exciting life or so I thought. Living their lives on the road was a perilous existence. Some died in car crashes while other developed illnesses while they were still young. Today's program focuses on bandleaders who passed from the scene much too soon. We'll be learning about Hal Kemp, Bennie Moten, Jan Savitt, Bunny Berigan, and others as we play a couple of numbers by each leader. Also, the Big Band Puzzler is back with another question to test your knowledge of the big band era. Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoy the show. Please visit this podcast at http://bigbandbashfm.blogspot.com
