Over doorzettingsvermogen.

Israeli military raids on the West Bank have intensified ever since the fragile ceasefire agreement came into effect in Gaza. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, Israeli forces have killed over 70 Palestinians in the West Bank this year alone and displaced thousands from their homes. These IDF raids not only target and kill Palestinians of all ages but serve as a pretext to launch mass arrest campaigns. Jenna Abu Hasna, international advocacy officer at the Ramallah-based NGO Addameer, describes Israel's longstanding practice of mass arrests in the occupied Palestinian territories. Abu Hasna outlines Israel's systemic torture of Palestinians in Israeli jails and its widespread practice of placing Palestinians under administrative detention for months – even years - without filing formal charges. Israel's system of mass incarceration is not only a violation of international norms but serves as a tool to dispossess Palestinians of their rights, dignity, and land.

Season 28 : CERITA SOBAT PEMBELAJAR

This week, we are thrilled to bring you an exclusive interview with Hasna Kourda, the award-winning Tunisian entrepreneur, founder of Save Your Wardrobe. Hasna is tackling some of the most complicated issues in the fashion industry: the creation of a circular business model, facilitating care and repair to increase a product's lifecycle. Hasna Kourda's upbringing in Tunisia shaped her vision to solve one of the biggest issues in the fashion system: turning a linear business model into a circular one. Going from “production to consumption to waste” into “production to consumption to repair and recycle to a new production” is no easy feat. There are several external components that influence our purchasing drivers and the system demand creation. Becoming aware of them is the first step into changing them. Not everything is lost. Hasna is bridging the gap and distributing the responsibility between brands and consumers when it comes to managing a product's lifecycle. There are other initiatives and players who are also creating a more sustainable future.

Hasna Nada has dedicated the past ten years to advocating for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This is a personal journey inspired by her son being diagnosed with autism. Back when parents who had children with autism would seek answers and support in online forums, Hasna decided to take a leap of faith and set up the Child Development Centre (CDC) to provide services for kids with autism. She's now working on an online platform called Learn Autism. This was recorded at the CDC during her last day in Qatar. In this episode, she reflects on her difficult but inspirational journey. With a child who has been at the school for a number of years, who is still being put into situations that trigger his behaviours that they could easily have avoided. 29:00 – I feel like I'm on trial every time I have a meeting at school. 31:00 – He has been continually excluded from opportunities at school because the teachers assume a situation will happen, even if there has been no history of such behaviour. She has been fighting the good fight about customer consumption and the importance of circularity way before it became fashionable. With only 2% of funding going to female founders she had to learn on the go how to pitch for her idea (in the early years even sending her husband in to ‘look' like the lead) and assess investors on whether they are right for her business in the first place. Hasna believes that parents play a crucial role in their child's progress and that evidence based knowledge can facilitate making informed choices when supporting their child in achieving their potential and living a meaningful life.

Growing up, we used to feel like outcasts in western society. Things we ate, the language we spoke, the music we would listen to, holidays we would celebrate, and more were very different compared to our friends who aren't Asian. Because of this, we thought we were the only ones who would follow these traditions. Listening to other Asian narratives allowed us to appreciate and love our culture. We created this podcast to share our personal experiences and narratives but we also believe it is important to share others as well! Listening to more stories and experiences others face, teaches us more about the world, enriches our understanding of others, and connects us. In this series, Lulu and Yaya will bring in three guest speakers, coming from all different backgrounds and various parts of the world, to share their narratives and stories as Asians! In this episode, meet Alison Young, Hasna Azis, and Amara Saputra, who share their stories about struggles with identity, being the first-born daughter, and striving to create change.
