Our goal is to make cannabis products, from hemp-derived cannabinoids, strong enough for people that diswades them from having to smuggle their medicine in from regulates states. Adam Souza's father has been the head grower of a local nursery for 25 years. He has always been intrigued by the genus & species of a plant, how it grew and what affected that. He grew up around Agriculture which had taught the importance of farming. Adam was plugging trays at 7 years old and remembers as a kid anywhere he would go, he would point out unique looking plants and name what they were. Growing up underprivileged, Adam wanted something better. School wasn't for him as he dropped out of college to focus on music. He has been making music since 2003, which taught him how to brand through social media. In 2012, he moved to Wyoming, selling cannabis as a way to support his music habit. Money was great, but after a few friends got into trouble, I decided to start selling phones instead. He quickly realized having an empathetic mindset makes for a killer salesman. Making the mistake of chasing money after becoming bored with cell phones, he got into car sales. He was able to sell 12 cars in 1 month, but after having to go against morals just for a flat, he quit. He went and moved to Colorado for a fresh start, finding a job at AT&T. From here the journey gets very very very interesting and Adams journey is one that many of us go down, but few of us recover from. In episode 21 of the Health, Wealth, & Happiness Pod, we invite Micayla Kuehn to talk about the ancient Indian medicine, Ayurveda. Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word that translates to "the sacred knowledge of life". We get deep into the art of Ayurveda, how to discover your dosha, and healing any possible imbalances. Micayla is a Certified Ayurvedic Health Counselor and 200-hour Certified Yoga Teacher. She was born & raised in the Bay Area, CA, and has since relocated to the beautiful island of Kauai. It was living here, back in 2012, that she started her healing journey. The intention to take responsibility for her health & interest in herbalism, massage, yoga, astrology, aromatherapy, and nutrition, brought her to Ayurveda. Through Micayla's studies at the California College of Ayurveda in 2015 and while working with an Ayurvedic Practitioner, she was able to return to balance, relieve her long-term symptoms, and became empowered with the knowledge & tools to keep herself healthy. Micayla knew that she wanted to share this with others so they could experience that empowerment with their health as well. In 2017, Micayla also completed an Herbal Apprenticeship program at CCA & became a certified Ayurvedic Health Counselor. She went on to do a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, an Ayurvedic Massage & Body Therapy training, a two-month Vedic immersion experience living at an ayurvedic farm/yoga center, and is currently studying Jyotish (Vedic astrology) and working to become a Vedic astrologer. She has worked alongside an MD at a private practice and a team of holistic health practitioners in an integrative wellness clinic. Currently, Micayla has her own practice online, offering 1:1 coaching with clients anywhere in the world. In 2018, Micayla and her soul sister, Yvette, teamed up to create their company, Ancient Herban; an Ayurvedic-inspired apothecary that offers organic herbal extract tinctures, which they call Chillixirs, to support the nervous system and help with stress/anxiety/insomnia relief. Like many families, Dawn Hilton-Williams’s early childhood memories were marred by premature deaths brought about by chronic diseases, and like other families, she mourned the losses, normalized them, and moved on. However, it was her husband Anthony's health scare that changed her life, business, and family for good. She founded Herban-Eats and became the VEGUCATOR-IN-CHIEF. Dawn, is a passionate vegan whose mission is to fundamentally improve wellness, prevent chronic diseases and poverty from flowing and ruining human lives. From guidance and live demonstrations to countless vegan product and service solutions, Dawn works closely with plant-based clinicians and many other health and wellness partners to help people transform from daily poor health conditions to happy healthy lives. Dawn has over 20 years of professional cooking experience, has a plant-based nutrition certificate from the T. Colin Campbell Center for nutrition studies at eCornell, and in 2019 she authored her first book titled "Flava My Plate", a healthy wealthy vegan cookbook and guide to delicious vegetarian food. A few years ago, when Dawn’s husband Anthony felt sick, she immediately decided to make some positive changes to her health. Previously she had been reading studies on the relationship between diets rich in animal products and illnesses such as cancer and heart disease, but wasn't ready to change her lifestyle, not until Anthony's health problems. Her research helped defeat her worries about meal planning, caring for herself, parenting, running a company, and taking care of Anthony. In today’s episode of the Plant-Based Profit show, we take a deeper insight into Dawn’s family and professional life. From tv and social media-based cooking show appearances, cooking classes, and demos to podcasting, coaching, writing, public speaking, and vegucation 101 presentations, Dawn works to raise awareness about the direct correlation between chronic disease and diet; with a targeted focus on reaching people in minority communities who are disproportionately impacted by their negative effects.  We will further discuss how she is hoping to spread the word even more about the health benefits of a vegan diet with help from the Black-owned small business Impact grant from Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD Foundation and the NAACP that she was recently awarded.  Social Media Links ·   Instagram Profile - https://www.instagram.com/dawn_hiltonwilliams/?hl=en ·   Facebook Profile - https://www.facebook.com/dawn.hiltonwilliams ·   Official Website - https://www.herban-eats.com/

More importantly, we welcome our first gusts on the podcast, Alicia Nesbary-Moore and Barry Howard, the leaders over at Herban Produce. They are an urban farm over in the windy city. On this episode, we dive into their story and experience with urban farming in another city, and we share a BIG announcement about a new farm location. For our news segment, Rob, Michael, and Ina talk all things Re-Nuble. New York-based Re-Nuble announced that the company has raised $1.1M in Seed funding. Founded by Tinia Pina, the company turns food waste into a way to grow more food. The company's technology ‘upcycles' organic compounds from unrecoverable vegetable food waste, generating water-soluble, organic, hydroponic nutrients for soilless farms. The company calls its solution Organic Cycling Science (OSC). The system extracts viable, soluble nutrients in food waste and places it back into the food system for continuous reuse until a small percentage of its solids have no longer any residual value. By doing so, the company aims to create a closed loop system through an organic nutrient supply chain that is a carbon negative process done at scale, making it competitive to less sustainable commercial-level options. http://farm.one/?utm_source=audioepodcast&utm_medium=description&utm_campaign=signup (Sign up for the Farm. One Farm Share) Follow us on Instagram at http://instagram.com/farm.one To read more about some of the topics that were discussed, check out the links below: Herban Produce https://www.herbanproduce.com/ Food waste to indoor farming input: Re-Nuble raises $1.1m seed funding https://agfundernews.com/food-waste-to-indoor-farming-input-re-nuble-raises-1-1m-seed-funding.html
