I chose all my favorite sun prints and compiled them into a calendar for the year. I will have them for sale on my website in the coming days! A few of the highlights in this class are hearing how Lauren is so resourceful and the ways she innovates when she makes fire cider. It was also so fun to hear more about her brand's evolution and how she weaves together creativity and aesthetics with her product line and teaching pedagogy. If you get a chance to buy any of her products, you will not regret it, everything she makes smells and tastes like absolute heaven! And it was so fun to hear about her approach to product design and radical flavor combining. A bit about Lauren:Bio:Herbalist Lauren Peterson is a Juniper-lover, Sacred Journey School of Herbalism graduate & now teacher, and owner of White Deer Apothecary. Exploring Postpartum Intimacy and Somatic Healing with Spacious Ground

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 12, 2022 65:39

What are some of the struggles and realities of postpartum intimacy? How can couples continue to connect on a deep level after baby is born? What happens when a baby is born 2 months early? And how can we heal from the trauma of time in the NICU? We get into some fascinating topics about healing using movement and somatic therapy and connecting to others in a much deeper way. By paying attention to what is, dynamics are transformed. LEXI CHATARA-MIDDLETON LPC, R-DMT (she, her, hers) Lexi has spent most of her life using her body to express herself and helping others to do the same.  As a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado and a Registered Dance/Movement Therapist, Lexi works with a foundational understanding that the mind and body are not separate, but inexorably linked.  And that exploring this connection in the present moment, both verbally and non-verbally, has healing and therapeutic effects. Lexi received her Master's degree from Naropa University in SomaticCounseling Psychology and spent many years working at Windhorse Community Services, Inc which provided her the opportunity to combine and develop her interests in neuroscience, therapeutic methodology, dance/movement, and mindfulness/awareness practices. The development of her therapeutic style was an organic process growing out of life experiences, graduate training, time spent working with individuals experiencing extreme states, and with parents who have struggled to process challenging birth experiences. Her own journey as a cis-gender woman and mother has ignited a passion to support others on their journey into parenthood. There is no other act that can make one feel as helpless, vulnerable, or powerful as that of starting down the path of parenthood.  Becoming a parent and birthing can happen in many different ways and for many it is not just a physical experience, but also a psycho/social/emotional one. Working in the birth and parenting world has taught Lexi many things, one of the most valuable being that we do not have control. We don't always have control over whether or not we can become pregnant, how we become parents, what type of birth we will have, or the impact it will have on our lives. What we can control and decide however, is when and how to get support. It is Lexi's belief that integrating the intensity of the birth experience or the path to parenthood can take time and effort and needs to be approached with the understanding that what happens in the body has an effect on the mind and what is present in the mind is held in the body.http://www.spaciousgroundcounseling.com/https://sagebirthandwellness.com/lexi/ Stay in the loop and join my monthly email list here: https://www.aidazea.com https://www.patreon.com/thymeinthestudiohttps://www.etsy.com/shop/AidaZeaArtshttps://www.instagram.com/thymeinthestudiopodcastwww.thymeinthestudio.comhttps://www.aidazea.commusic by @aa.travers

We get into the power of community and meditation, death and mourning and how to collaborate with others in a way that encourages people to process and transform their inner terrain.ELAINE SU-HUI (b. 1978, Sydney, Australia) is an artist, facilitator, and dharma practitioner. Her work aims to be a direct expression of her dharma practice, investigating our relationship to change, impermanence, receptivity, and emptiness, through teachings from nature.Trained as a printmaker, Elaine also makes her own watercolours from respectfully foraged, natural pigments. She is also the founder and artistic director of Inner Fields NY; an intimate, social practice project aimed at breaking down hierarchical and commodity-based forms of interaction, while building a culture of generosity and ecological wisdom. The project is now a collectivized organization of six artists, writers, scholars and educators, and is hosted in various unique sites across the United States.Deeply influenced by her time living and working in Oakland, CA, in 2009, followed by 10 years living and working in New York, Elaine's artistic praxis is fiercely oriented around a grassroots approach. Building small, collaborative communities, and liberating one's creativity from a reputation economy, are core tenets to her ethos of art as a process of care and service. Whether she is investing in long term, collaborative relationships, or slow, material processes made by hand, Elaine prioritizes depth of connection as her primary marker of cultural impact. Many organizations, mentors, and teachers, have significantly supported and guided Elaine's work and practice. She received her art training from East Sydney Tech; National Art School (Sydney); and RMIT (Melbourne), and was the beneficiary of awards, grants, scholarships, and fellowships from the Silk Cut Foundation; National Association for the Visual Arts; Australian Print Workshop; Ian Potter Cultural Trust; Kala Art Institute (Berkeley, CA); Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop (New York, NY); and Prosjektrom Normanns (Stavanger, Norway); each of which has enabled new projects and/ or allowed life-changing decisions to be possible. Her work as senior printer and assistant to the artist SWOON from 2010-2017 was also hugely transformative.Elaine's dharma lineage includes Buddhist Theravadin, Chinese Mahayana, and Thai Forest traditions. What do you do when you gotta start all over? Lean into this story and the sweet poetic voice of Leah Larabell to find out. Leah Larabell is a nature-loving wife, mother and daughter who finds a great deal of purpose and satisfaction in sharing her love for the land.Leah descended from a long line of Celtic Cunning Folk and has found her ancient gifts within the world of herbalism. After awakening this passion, she became obsessed with learning as much as possible and has dedicated over a decade of her life to rigorously studying and diligently practicing the art of herbalism. She has been taught by renowned herbal elders as well as Mother Nature herself.  As a clinical level herbalist, she considers herself a Western eclectic herbalist and is so grateful to the many plant wisdom keepers from many lands that passed down this art so she may carry it today. Many experiences over the years have humbled her to consciously removing her ego from the herbal practice.  Realizing, it’s not her who offers healing, but the plants who do the good work. Each one bringing some type of special knowledge or ability ready to help if you just know who to ask.  With this, Leah never uses plants; instead, she calls upon them, asks for their help, looks toward them for insight, or simply sits by them for companionship.    This approach also allows Leah to offer an easy access point to interested, beginning herbalists. It is her goal to create as many Plantfolk and herbalists possible while on this earth walk. She is a forever student of the land and eternally grateful for the lessons. https://www.highgardentea.com/ Thyme in the Studio links:https://www.patreon.com/thymeinthestudiohttps://www.instagram.com/highgardentea/https://www.etsy.com/shop/AidaZeaArtshttps://www.instagram.com/thymeinthestudiopodcast/https://www.instagram.com/aida.zea.arts/https://www.facebook.com/groups/403582056803336/www.thymeinthestudio.comhttps://www.aidazea.comContact me: sara@aidazea.com Music by Corrina Repp! @corrinarepp"Release Me" and "Need You/Don't Need You" by Corrina ReppLong version- available at www.patreon.com/thymeinthestudioInterstitial cystitis herbs that might helpthe advantages and disadvantages of being a seer. Behind the scenes business chat about herbalismSuggestions for focusing your efforts.Honoring waterShort version-cunning FolkCeltic backgroundSquirrelNicknamed as feralConnection with the wild plantsInterstitial cystitisWorking with PipsissewaTalking to treesHumilityMatchmaker for the plants and peoplePlant wisdom keeper. Studying with David WinstonGoing to a party in the forest and knowing the plant names and storiesThe beginning of the herb shop in Nashville, TNJoel knew teaBusiness took offStore versus a place to be and a woodland escapeEast NashvillePotion parlorReproducing versus pivoting and expanding herbal knowledgeAnother location would be outsideShop as a piece of selfDeep desire to make everyone happyTo keep everyone happy is immense pressureTragedy helps you to reassess and refineCreating Accessible herbal educationOnline education

I am not tech-savvy. I am prone to distraction and can be a bit of a commitment-phobe but I have stuck it out for 69 episodes and going on 3 years. I’ve had to take some breaks, I’ve changed the format and continued to evolve and learn, and have done this on a budget. I’m slowly growing my community and this podcast is starting to make a profit. She plays the electric guitar and is a singer/songwriter unlike any other. She is an actress who was featured in 8 Portlandia episodes, and several independent films and she is a phenomenal photographer and wonderful person to be around. A little bio about her from www.allmusic.com. Written by Katherin Fulton“Specializing in sparse, fragile songs that favor the electric guitar, singer/songwriter Corrina Repp emerged from the music scene of Portland, Oregon in the late '90s. After releasing her fourth album, 2006's The Absent and the Distant, she focused on the indie rock band Tu Fawning (2007-2012) before reviving her solo career with The Pattern of Electricity in 2015. Repp has also acted in films and on television, including a recurring role on IFC's Portlandia.Settling in the Pacific Northwest after frequent childhood relocations, Repp began her career as a musician thanks to a part-time job. While selling band merchandise online, she connected with the Decemberists, who were so impressed by her songs that they recommended her to Hush Records. The label released her debut album, A Boat Called Hope, in 1998. The CD-R EP The Other of Mud materialized a year later. Repp followed up with the albums I Take on Your Days in 2001 and It's Only the Future in 2004, both on Hush. After touring with the Decemberists, M. Ward, and Cat Power, among others, Repp released The Absent and the Distant on Mark Kozelek's Caldo Verde label in 2006. Putting her solo career on hold, Repp and musician Joe Haege formed the band Tu Fawning with Toussaint Perrault and Liza Reitz in 2007. They released a pair of albums for the City Slang label (2010's Hearts on Hold and 2012's A Monument) and toured throughout the U.S. and Europe. After Tu Fawning disbanded in late 2012, Repp took on several acting roles in small independent films and appeared on multiple episodes of the popular Portland-based sketch-comedy show Portlandia. In 2015, she resumed her solo career with her fifth LP, The Pattern of Electricity. It arrived via Caldo Verde. A joint release between sonaBLAST! and Jealous Butcher Records, How a Fantasy Will Kill Us All, followed in 2018.” -https://www.allmusic.com/artist/corrina-repp-mn0000123043/biographyOOh, and I’m shifting the format of the podcast a little and offering you about half the episode here for the general public. What do you want to hear about? I asked. You told me.Immunity, exhaustion and doula stories were your most most requested topics. So I swirled together some stories and practical info for you into this one brief episode. Some herbs that help protect you immune system, herbs for autoimmune conditions, a little info about adaptogens and remedies for fatigue and exhaustion.  I also dove into the struggles of doula work and how you can better show up for mamas, birthing people, families and yourself.  So please feel free to message me on instagram if there are topics you want me to dive into in the future. I’m gonna touch on each of these topics briefly today and invite you to do a creative challenge with me for the next month. I’m taking December off from the podcast but realized I’m really gonna miss you!So if you wanna join, just draw a plant, flower or herb and tag me with @thymeinthestudiopodcast. I’ll share a few of your drawings each week and at the end of December I’ll choose 1 artist to interview. I’ve started a new 100 day project of drawing a little each day and sharing at saramariestudio and feels so good to sit with a plant, notice its messages and just draw for a little each day. Such a great meditation. Ooh and if you live in Georgia or know someone who does, please urge them to register to vote before December 5 and request a mail in ballot. That little runoff election will determine a lot of what happens or doesn’t happen in the next 4 years. The podcast is taking a vacation and will return in January 2021!Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!Thyme in the Studio links:https://www.patreon.com/thymeinthestudiohttps://www.etsy.com/shop/AidaZeaArtshttps://www.instagram.com/thymeinthestudiopodcast/https://www.instagram.com/aida.zea.arts/https://www.facebook.com/groups/403582056803336/www.thymeinthestudio.comhttps://www.aidazea.comContact me: sara@aidazea.comMusic by Aaron Travers!@aa.travers

Have you ever heard someone speak and you could feel your brain firing off neurons, making connections and just going wild with excitement? That person is saying something you need to pay attention to. That was my reaction to an artist talk given about 9 years ago by today’s artist. Katerina Lanfranco helped spark my curiosity regarding the connection of nature and art which led me to start this podcast. Gold star for sparking this fire and a reminder that you never know what impact your actions can have on the future! You can check out Katerina’s work currently up at the Nancy Hoffman Gallery and the Sweet Lorraine Gallery in NYC. What is this work all about? Here’s more about her and her work:At the core of my art practice is the act of exploring aspects of nature, science and fantasy. I collect, organize, and recombine images and objects from nature and everyday life. I make art as a way to ask questions about the world that I live in:                      How do I make the invisible visible?          At what point does fantasy become reality?   How is our concept of nature a cultural construct? What can we learn from natural forms, cycles, and rhythms? My work seeks to explore the apparent duality of culture and nature, and the ways in which our understanding of nature informs our own identities. With each of my exhibitions I consider in the aesthetic experience of the viewer, and how the site-specificity of the show will evolve and develop in dialogue to the architectural setting of the space. I reference culture-specific modes of representing nature, such as botanical illustrations, floral fabric patterns, curio cabinets, scientific notes, dioramas, and panoramas. Symbolist and Visionary art traditions along with Romanticism and colorists such as the Fauvists and Les Nabis are great influences on my work. Landscapes, sacred geometry, natural disasters, natural history, biological structures, and genetic engineering are recurring themes. I am also interested in cultural conceptions of progress, systems of knowledge, and the problem of creating meaning in relation to the natural world. My current body of work explores geometry and patterns found in nature combined with portraiture and landscape painting that explores emotions and psychology.Katerina Lanfranco is an NYC-based artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York where she makes paintings, drawings, mixed media works, and sculptures. She was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and spent her early childhood in Berlin, Germany. As a teenager, she lived in Bangalore (Bangaluru), India. Lanfranco earned her BA in Art (Painting) and in Visual Theory and Museum Studies from UC Santa Cruz, and her MFA in Studio Art (Painting) from Hunter College, City University of New York. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings) in Berlin, and the Corning Museum of Glass. She is the recipient of several awards and residencies including Japan-US Creative Exchange Fellowship Artist-in-Residence Award; DNA Artist Residency, Sugar Shack Artist-in-Residence; Vermont Studio Center; Pollock Krasner Fellowship at the Byrdcliffe Artist Residency; Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts Studio Artist in Residence with Flux Factory; Tony Smith Award (Hunter College); Hunter College Exchange Scholarship (UdK Berlin, Germany); William Graft Memorial Fund Travel Grant (to research High Baroque Italian painting). She has been invited as a guest artist and critic to colleges and residency programs in California, New York, Tennessee, and Florida. She writes NYC art reviews for the Art Blog based out of Philadelphia. Her work has been represented by the Nancy Hoffman Gallery since 2006. Lanfranco’s work has been exhibited throughout the United States, and internationally in Toronto, Canada; Berlin, Germany; Milan, Italy; and Kyoto, Japan.  Lanfranco founded Rhombus Space in 2013, and was Chief Curator at Trestle Gallery from 2015 to 2018, where she is on the advisory board for the gallery. Recent shows include solo shows "Mystic Geometry" at the Nancy Hoffman Gallery, "Efflorescence" at the SCPS Gallery at Pratt Manhattan, “Talk to the Moon” at Day & Night Projects in Atlanta, Georgia, and “Shadow Light” at HOUSEGallery in Philadelphia. My name is Rochelle Jamila Wilbun. I am a Black doula, herbalist, Reiki practitioner and dancer based in Brooklyn hailing from Memphis, TN.
