In this episode I'm excited to introduce you to Dr. Toni Engram. She is what's referred to as a biological dentist. She's also an integrative health coach and the owner of Flourished Dental Boutique in Richardson, Texas. For a lot of people, we think a dentist is only a dentist, but that's not really the case anymore. To understand what it means to be a biological dentist, think of it as the functional medicine or naturopathic version of dentistry. While biological dentists still do fillings, crowns, and other standard procedures, how they do these things is very intentional. Biological medicine has an appreciation for the biological terrain. It's not just about one germ causing one illness - it's about what our toxic bucket looks like. Have we filled it too much and is it overflowing, or are we supporting it? In biological dentistry, practitioners look carefully at what materials they're using and whether those are helping or hurting. They look for infections in a patient's mouth that might be hiding and could impact overall health. When toxins or infections are involved, biological dentists use techniques that aim to be safer and more natural whenever possible. They don't use fluoride anywhere in the office. When taking out old silver fillings that are half mercury, they follow specific protocols to protect patients and staff. Even the filling materials used are carefully sourced as responsibly as possible. People can search online for a biological dentist in their area. Many patients switch to a biological dentist when their regular dentist retires, or when they realize that traditional dentistry doesn't align with their values. It's about finding a practitioner whose approach matches what you believe in. Some patients don't want fluoride, don't want unnecessary junk in their mouth, and want to ensure dental work is done safely without unnecessary X-rays. What's interesting is that Dr. Toni also has health coach certification, which isn't common even among biological dentists. This gives her a broader perspective on health - she's not just looking at the patient's mouth but considering how their diet and overall health relate to what's happening with their teeth. Health coaching skills help her with one-on-one patient conversations and in communicating with the public through platforms like Instagram and YouTube. Today we're going to be talking about the seven reasons I recommend avoiding gluten to help clear the high-risk HPV virus from your body once and for all. I've been an expert in gluten and have specialized in helping patients with it for over 20 years. Today I'm excited to introduce you to my friend and colleague Dr. John Neustadt, a naturopathic doctor and graduate of Bastyr University. He's an expert in bone health and prevention of osteoporosis, as well as a researcher, speaker, and author of the book "Fracture Proof Your Bones: A Comprehensive Guide to Osteoporosis." While we often think of osteoporosis as primarily affecting women during perimenopause and post-menopause, it's important to note that about 80% of osteoporosis cases are in women and 20% in men. Like many chronic diseases, the condition progresses for many years before receiving a diagnosis. Research shows that approximately 70% of women 50 years and older have some bone loss, and this might be an underestimate considering the many commonly prescribed medications, such as antidepressants and acid-blocking medications, that can damage bone health even earlier in life. If you have osteoporosis and fracture a hip, there's up to a 65% chance of death within a year. However, it's important to understand that while serious, this isn't an emergency. There's time to educate yourself and create a holistic bone health plan. Maya: Hello doctor Cabral, I'm a 45-year-old woman with a lot of goals I want to achieve. However, my monthly cycle appears to hinder my progress. During the initial two weeks post period, I feel enthusiastic, energetic, clear-minded, and ready to conquer the world. But, a few days after ovulation, I experience a decline in energy. My workouts become more draining, my thoughts turn negative, and I struggle to stay on track with my goals. I know that this is likely due to hormonal fluctuations, but I would love to maintain consistent energy levels throughout my cycle. Are there any supplements or strategies I could implement to sustain this energy? It's worth noting that I lead a healthy, active lifestyle and am very mindful of my cycle. Thanks so much for your answer, you're the best! Maya Kristen: Hi Dr. Cabral! Thank you for your podcast, I've been learning a lot from it. I'm a dietitian and I'm having a really hard time understanding the food sensitivity tests that functional medicine practitioners use (listened to recent episode on that). This is a test that dietitians generally do not use. From my understanding, these tests reflect a normal ‘reaction' to the foods that we have recently and regularly eat. When they remove these foods during the elimination phase and retest, it only makes sense that the IgG response to these foods is lower, since it hasn't recently been eaten. When these clients come to me with these results, I rarely pay attention to the results, but rather focus on ‘cleaning up' their diets, lifestyle, etc. Would love to hear your thoughts on my view! Jack: I completeled a mycotoxin test I have high mycophenolic acid how can I detox it out of system where did it come from please help Erin: Thoracic pain/tightness…I grew up playing sports and then played competitive golf through college. I remember at the beginning of every round my upper back was always sooo tight and it felt like a really deep tightness. So much so it interfered with my swing but after 3-4 holes it started to loosen. Fast forward to now and it seems my thoracic area is constantly tight and if I do weights or like yesterday, a lot of raking, that area is so sore and tight today.
