Have you ever thought of how you can start to use Artificial Intelligence as a way to make your life easier as a yoga teacher? There are actually lots of ways and in this episode, you're gong to find out how.    My guest is Adrianne Jerrett, founder of All Mats Taken, and she bridges the worlds of yoga teaching and business technology. With a background in ecology and a 250-hour yoga certification completed during the pandemic, Adrianne faced firsthand the challenges of building a teaching career without traditional studio access. Drawing on her experience in website design for wellness practitioners, she recognized many yoga teachers struggled with the business aspects of their practice. This insight inspired the All Mats Taken Summit, now in its third year, bringing together experts to help yoga teachers create sustainable businesses.  Today, Adrianne teaches yin yoga while raising her son and exploring how AI can support wellness professionals. Her work has contributed to planting over 630 trees through summit ticket donations (and counting!). Through All Mats Taken, she remains committed to helping yoga reach more communities by empowering teachers with essential business skills.   In this episode, Adrianne and I discuss how AI can help you as a yoga teacher with lots of the things you might be doing manually and in doing so, giving you more time to teach. Here are some of the topics we discuss:   - How to save time on content creation while maintaining authenticity - How to keep your authentic voice  with content repurposing - How to use AI for content creation without sounding 'robotic' - What is a common misconception about AI you'd like to clear up? - How I'm using AI to help me plan this year's AMT summit. - Introduce my presentation on prompt engineering   We also talk about her upcoming online summit and you can find out about that here:   https://allmatstaken.com/   I'll be one of the presenters at the Summit too!   Enjoy the episode!

However, the goals you'll discover when you listen to this episode are timeless and you can experiment with them any time of the year.    The episode begins with a description of “glowing up” and how that resonated with me as the source of the goals that you'll hear about when you listen. I then go on to share a re-cap of the prior episode, Episode 326, where I interviewed Helene Whitfield, the Chief Visionary Officer of the newly formed G.O.Y.A, the Global Online Yoga Association. How To Deal With Different Yoga Teaching Scenarios (EP.324)

Quick recap Karen Fabian, host of "Conversations for Yoga Teachers," discussed common scenarios in yoga classes and offered approaches to handle them, emphasizing the importance of understanding one's teaching style and adapting it to suit individual students. She covered topics such as maintaining confidence, preparing well, and focusing on effective communication and cues during classes. Karen also addressed professional boundaries, handling unexpected situations, and encouraged teachers to explore different teaching methods while staying true to their intentions. Next steps • Yoga teachers can experiment with one of the discussed scenarios in their classes over the next 2 weeks and share with Karen via Instagram DM if they wish. • Interested teachers can send a DM to Karen on Instagram requesting the cues training video. • Teachers interested in learning the "walk and talk" technique can send a DM to Karen on Instagram to find out how to get started with this approach. • Listeners can download the free "Concepts in Movement" PDF from the link in Karen's Instagram bio, @barebonesyoga • Teachers interested in enrolling in Karen's Yoga Anatomy Blueprint Learning Program can take advantage of the new payment plan before January 1, 2025 and get started for just $367!     Summary Handling Yoga Class Scenarios In this episode, Karen Fabian, the host of "Conversations for Yoga Teachers," discusses common scenarios that occur in yoga classes and offers approaches to handle them. She emphasizes the importance of understanding one's own teaching style and not being afraid to adapt it. Karen also introduces a new format for the show, where she demonstrates the content at the beginning to ensure the listener knows what to expect. She encourages listeners to share their experiences via DM on Instagram @barebonesyoga if any of the scenarios resonate with them. Dealing With Negative Feedback in Yoga Karen shared a story she saw on TikTok about a Yoga teacher in Chicago who shared that someone, a student, publicly ranked her favorite teachers based on their classes. Karen expressed her thoughts about this and emphasized that teachers can't control how others perceive their classes and shouldn't be worried about negative feedback. Instead, they can focus on teaching their best. Maintaining Confidence in Teaching Karen discussed the importance of being prepared and confident in teaching, regardless of the students' backgrounds or levels of experience. She emphasized the need to stick to a well-prepared sequence and not be swayed by unexpected situations or student reactions. Karen also shared a hypothetical scenario where a teacher encounters a class full of new faces with varying levels of experience, and advised against changing the planned sequence on the spot. She stressed the importance of maintaining a non-reactive mindset and focusing on one's own preparation and delivery. Adapting to Student Needs in Yoga Karen emphasized the importance of adapting to the needs of individual students in a yoga class. She suggested that teachers should not feel obligated to change their prepared sequences unless they can easily do so. Instead, they should focus on helping students who are struggling by getting off the mat and walking around to provide clear cues. Karen also recommended using action-oriented phrases to effectively teach a mixed-level class. Accessible Yoga and Teacher Intentions Karen discussed her cueing method and its application in teaching yoga. She emphasized the importance of making classes accessible to students of varying levels of experience and flexibility. Karen suggested that teachers can focus on offering modifications to make postures more accessible, rather than presenting advanced variations that may not be suitable for all students. She also encouraged teachers to be intentional about the type of yoga they present, aligning it with their vision. Karen concluded by urging teachers to reflect on whether their classes are a reflection of their true intentions or merely a replication of what they were trained to do. Understanding Yoga Styles and Confidence Karen discussed the importance of understanding the style of yoga and the class setup when covering for another teacher. She emphasized the need to familiarize oneself with the regular teacher's class before taking on the subbing role. Karen also highlighted the need to avoid putting oneself down when covering a class, as it's a service to the students. She stressed the importance of being confident in one's own teaching abilities and not comparing oneself to others. Maintaining Professional Boundaries in Teaching Karen shared a personal anecdote about a time when she had to substitute teach a popular class, highlighting the importance of maintaining professional boundaries with students. She emphasized that a teacher's role is to focus on the practice, not their personal relationships with students. Karen also discussed the issue of students leaving class early, advising against taking it personally and instead focusing on sending them off with positive thoughts. She stressed that students' actions are often driven by their own issues, not the teacher's performance. Adapting Teaching Methods for Students Karen emphasized the importance of adapting teaching methods to suit individual students. Karen also discussed the issue of cues not working during a class, suggesting that teachers can revert to clear, short action phrases and spend more time observing students to correct any misalignments. She offered to help teachers who want to improve their teaching style through a direct message on Instagram. Adapting Teaching Methods for Students Karen discussed the importance of adapting teaching methods to the needs of students. She emphasized the value of observing students and adjusting cues in real-time, as this helps students feel seen and learn better. Karen also shared her personal experience of feeling called out during yoga practice and suggested that sharing cues to the room versus a specific student is very effective.  Empowering Yoga Teachers  Karen emphasized the importance of feeling confident teaching yoga classes. She stressed the need for teachers to be aware of their sequence and not be swayed by special requests from students. She encouraged teachers to explore different teaching methods and styles, and to not be constrained by traditional norms. Karen's goal is to empower teachers to be the kind of yoga instructors they truly want to be, rather than being driven by consumer expectations. Final thoughts Karen ended the episode by encouraging listeners to experiment with the new approaches over the next two weeks and share their experiences via Instagram DM. She also offered a free PDF on her Instagram page, titled "Concepts in Movement," and a new payment plan for her program, The Yoga Anatomy Blueprint Learning Program, offering a discounted rate of $367 to get started, with 5 more similar payments after that. This offer is good until the end of 2024.    Links:    www.barebonesyoga.com https://barebonesyoga.thinkific.com/courses/blueprint-learning-program https://barebonesyoga.lpages.co/concepts-in-movement/

Welcome to Episode 78 of the Movement Logic podcast! In this episode, Laurel and Sarah discuss what current science, versus outdated advice and conventional wisdom, have to say about the knees—namely whether “bone on bone” is a thing, and if deep squats, knee valgus aka “knee cave”, or high impact are inherently bad for your knees. Learn what research has to say about some of the most common fragilizing beliefs people hear about their knees, and why these scary tales are just plain wrong. In this episode you will learn that: The knee is strong and adaptable, capable of handling various loads with training. The knee has a wide range of safe positions, especially with progressive exposure. Knee pain doesn't always mean injury, and injuries can heal with proper care. The knee isn't a simple hinge; it allows rotational and lateral movement. The kneecap doesn't always need to face forward in standing. Knees can lock or hyperextend without causing harm, depending on the person. The knee can safely move past the ankle and toes during squats or lunges. Running and landing don't require the knee to track perfectly forward. Knee valgus is not inherently dangerous. Deep squats, high-intensity exercise, and running do not cause arthritis or "wear and tear"; they strengthen the knee. Strength training and running thicken knee cartilage compared to inactivity.Sign up here for our FREE Live Strength Class (and sample our Bone Density Course) on September 19th at 8:30am PT/11:30am ET with free replay!Analysis of the load on the knee joint and vertebral column with changes in squatting depth - PMID: 23821469Positive effects of moderate exercise on glycosaminoglycan content in knee cartilage - PMID: 16258919Thickening of the knee joint cartilage in elite weightlifters as a potential adaptation mechanism - PMID: 24648385Exercise for osteoarthritis of the knee: a Cochrane systematic review - PMID: 26405113Knee alignment does not predict incident osteoarthritis - PMID: 17393450Gluteal muscle weakness on joint kinematics - PMID: 37309814The effect of experimentally induced gluteal muscle weakness on joint kinematics - PMID: 37309814Impact of Three Strengthening Exercises on Dynamic Knee Valgus - PMID: 34068810Anteromedial versus posterolateral hip musculature strengthening with dose-controlled in women with patellofemoral pain - PMID: 33689989Kiss goodbye to the 'kissing knees' - PMID: 33906580Research on Crossfit injury risk - PMID: 24276294, PMID: 28253059, PMID: 32343082, PMID: 33322981Instagram post about Sharon Lokedi Low Prevalence of Hip and Knee Arthritis in Active Marathon Runners - PMID: 29342063

www.keenonyoga.com | @adam_keen_ashtanga  Adam reflects on his 25 years of teaching yoga and shares the things he has changed his mind on over the years. He emphasizes the importance of evolving and learning in yoga and how knowledge should change us. He discusses the concept of deepening a posture and how it is more about balancing forces in the body rather than pushing for a deeper shape. He also talks about his evolving understanding of Hatha yoga and the integration of movement, breath, and concentration.  Key Points ·      Knowledge should change us and lead to personal growth and evolution. ·      Deepening a posture is about balancing forces in the body, not just pushing for a deeper shape. ·      Hatha yoga is a method of pressurizing the body to align and purify the energy of the spine. ·      The integration of movement, breath, and concentration is essential in yoga practice. Adjustments in yoga can send the message that a person is not good enough and can lead to injury. ·      Trust and touch are important in yoga practice, and being in proximity with others who provide supportive touch can open up the body. ·      Breathing is the movement in yoga, and the diaphragm is the center of the body. ·      Technique in yoga is important, but it should not overshadow the need for space, support, and encouragement in the practice. ·      Anatomical variations should be taken into account in yoga practice, and individualized variations can be used instead of rigidly following a set sequence. ·      Quality of practice is more important than the amount of time spent practicing. ·      Rounding the back in forward folds can be beneficial, and internal rotation can be emphasized in twists. ·      The second series backbends can be introduced early in the practice to provide a balanced approach. ·      Personal discipline in yoga practice should be balanced with trust in oneself and the ability to listen to one's own needs.   "Yoga did... what medications didn't." "Teaching back then was practicing with the class." "I don't adjust anymore... I don't manhandle people." "Adjustments, second thing, adjustments don't work." "Being with people in proximity, if you trust them, if you feel their touch is endorsing, affirmative of your being, just opens up the body like nothing else." "The body always wants to seek homeostasis. In everything, in its blood temperature, in the regulation of all its organs, it just wants to seek homeostasis naturally."

By gaining a deeper knowledge and understanding of the physical body yourself, you can help students become more intuitive with how they move and reach a wider number of students through your language. Michael breaks down the spine and hips as two examples of how to talk about different movements of the body.  He emphasizes that giving students a reason why they are doing these physical movements will allow them to connect and understand their bodies and their yoga practices on a new and potentially far deeper level. This podcast episode was a total surprise for me, and this week I am excited to share the conversation with you all.Sadie's comments on teaching yoga online, marketing, and more are exactly what we've been talking about for the future of our profession in the online arena. Take a listen. Here are our key takeaways: -There is plenty of room for you to build an audience online. There are more students who are looking for a more nurturing experience, which we can build, even online. -We don't need to leverage our challenges and traumas in order to get likes. It is complicated and icky when we use our own challenges to get pity views---and it isn't the way marketing makes us feel good. -You don't need to be committed to the same niche forever. Shifting your content as you age and gain more experience makes total sense. Now don't change every 6 months, but also don't feel stuck doing the same thing forever. -Women don't need to be young in order to be valued, no matter what fitness and wellness IG accounts tell us. -Feedback is critical. It is sometimes hard to hear, but it is worth getting to know your audience so we connect with them and build nourishing content for them. -If you are not in the business of serving and helping people, go get a job that pays you better. Yeah, that times 100. When we are serving our purpose a lot of the things that seem difficult seem easier. -Creativity requires space. We need to build some time in our schedules to be creative, which is one of the best things about working for yourself. It's all about cause and effect: How do our actions (and reactions) ripple through the Universe? It's a big idea and our Mindful Conversation with KAY podcast this week explores how to explain and practice Karma Yoga with children. Kelly and Kristi talk about: What Karma is (and isn't) How to take yoga off the mat and into action Explaining Karma to children in age-appropriate ways Examples of simple acts of kindness The power of setting an example for your kids Links for more information: Ram Dass: https://www.ramdass.org/karma-yoga/ Spread Kindness Through Karma Yoga: https://kiddingaroundyoga.com/spread-kindness-with-karma-yoga/ Explaining Karma to Kids: https://kiddingaroundyoga.com/karma-yoga-meditation-selfless-service-kids/ Karma Yoga - Joy of Selfless Service: https://kiddingaroundyoga.com/karma-yoga-joy-selfless-service/ Build Your Child's Kindness Muscles: https://kiddingaroundyoga.com/build-your-childs-kindness-muscles/

Gabrielle Harris shares actionable tips for yoga teachers that you can start implementing in your classes and using right away.   Gabrielle describes herself as a writer at heart and a yogi in mind and body. Her aim is to inspire students and teachers from all disciplines to keep falling in love with yoga each new day. Gabrielle has over 1000 hours of training in various disciplines and traditions, and through her written work and yoga classes reminds us to start living a full life through the toolbox of yoga. She is also the author of The Language of Yin and The Inspired Yoga Teacher.   Gabrielle talks about her journey in writing these two books, how to teach yoga to beginners, and why language is so important and powerful in yoga. Gabrielle also shares her thoughts on what makes a good yoga teacher and why our job is to watch, listen and observe, rather than centering ourselves in our teaching. She offers some tips on the different types of cues we might use, how to practice nonviolent communication, and encourages us to reflect on our responsibility as yoga teachers.   Key Takeaways: [0:00] Shannon addresses the recent US Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade.
