POPULARITY
Jenn and I are huge horror fans. I (Scott) love every movie that George Romero has made about Zombies. Bryan Patrick Miller took his love of zombies to a whole new level. Armed with his zombie hunting a car (an old police car) and his steam punk outfit, he could be found at every event in and around Pheonix, AZ. He was a popular character, so much so that the police took pride at the chances that the got to take a picture with the zombie hunter. What no one would have guessed was that behind the steam punk outfit was a killer who murdered at least 2 girls in Pheonix, AZ and perhaps more in Everette, WA. The autobiography by convicted serial killer Todd Kohlhepp is now available in Amazon and Kindle. Click the link below to check it out. https://a.co/d/6SBnHM1

I (Scott) was recently in a discovery call with a prospect when we asked what their USPs were. They couldn't answer. This made me nervous. It also got me thinking about what else makes me nervous in marketing, especially the unrealistic expectations from prospects or clients of their marketing agencies.Marketing agencies can cover a lot of ground, but what can't they do?That's what I talk about in this episode. If you're looking to work with an agency and what I share in this episode resonates with you, we'd love to hear from you.Email grow@sitevisibility.com or Tweet us @SiteVisibility.Or do something to us on Threads. On Oct. 13, 2021, at 7:27 pm, Grace Schara—an inquisitive young woman with Down-Syndrome—died a tragic and preventable death at a Wisconsin hospital. Rather than using treatments proven to combat COVID-19, Ascension's St. Elizabeth's Hospital followed the U.S. government's ineffective COVID-19 treatment protocols, for which they reap significant financial rewards. On the final day of Grace's life, as her doctor assured her parents she was doing well, A Doctor “unilaterally labelled Grace a DNR (Do not resuscitate) and ordered a lethal combination of IV sedatives and narcotics”—a fatal combination of the drugs Precedex, Lorazepam, and Morphine—which were administered over an incredibly short period of time. Notably, all three drugs are manufactured by mRNA maker and pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.Who Was Grace Schara?Grace Schara was full of love. Properly describing the magical impact Grace had on every life she touched—especially her mom, dad, and sister—would require more space than this article. Her family and all those who knew and loved Grace were clearly blessed to have her in their lives for 19 years. Besides bringing an incredible amount of joy everywhere she went, Grace could read and write, drive a car, ride a horse, play the violin, and drive her riding lawnmower, and so much more. Truly, Grace loved absolutely everything about the life she was living. “Grace was our bright, beautiful, fun-loving 19-year-old daughter with Down Syndrome. She was an angel who loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus. Everyone knew Grace. I (Scott) was known only as ‘Grace's dad.' She had a sense of her Heavenly Father that very few people ever have. She called me her ‘Earthly dad.' Who does that?”http://www.ouramazinggrace.net/Support the show

We'll be digging into that with varying perspectives and voices throughout the series. (By the way, if you or someone you know would be a great fit for this series, please contact me at info@fxmissions.com.) To start out, I decided I'd like to share more of my own story. To be specific, one specific crisis story. This story unfolds in two parts, so be sure to listen to both as I relay what transpired, how I got through it, how it shaped my business and, most importantly, how it impacted and changed me. BUILDING YOUR PLATFORM You can have the best content, the prettiest deck, and the most amazing delivery style, but if you have no platform, you have no audience. The entire concept of Durability is about having a message that (1) will not only be loved and adored by others but (2) will also stand the test of time. You must have fans to help you embed your message and cement your legacy. First, you need to flex your muscles and prove that you're the expert. Here's how to hit the gym. BECOME AN EXPERT According to author and entrepreneur Tim Ferriss, anyone can become an expert in four weeks. That's it. It's completely doable if you are willing to put in the effort. Here are a few tips Ferriss suggests to accomplish this level of authority: JOIN TWO TO THREE TRADE-RELATED ORGANIZATIONS WITH OFFICIAL-SOUNDING NAMES. The main idea here is to associate yourself with the right industry labels. If you want a certain distinction, seek the title. For instance, if you just created a business, apply to become an LLC. Within a few days, you now have the name XYZ Company, LLC, which makes you look a lot more credible. READ THREE TOP-SELLING BOOKS IN YOUR SPACE. Ferriss says that if you read this type of material, you will know about 80 percent more than the standard person in that industry. I can attest to this fact as well. When I first started Ethos3, I consumed every book on presentations I could get my hands on. WRITE A GUEST POST. Piggyback on the success of others. If Johnny has 100,000 blog subscribers, then offer to write a guest post for him for free. Your content will be seen by 100,000 folks.[5] These tips are easy to implement and deploy. It just requires some proactiveness on your part. If you start acting like an expert, people will soon see you as a thought leader. PURSUE THOUGHT LEADERSHIP You are probably reading this book right now because you are looking for ideas, concepts, and anything else that will give you a competitive edge. You are looking for leadership. People all over the world are doing the exact same thing as you. They are looking for knowledge. They are looking for wisdom. They are looking for smarter ways to do things. They crave fresh ideas. Here's the good news. There is no better platform than a presentation for giving you the opportunity to showcase your expertise. Plan for it. Seize it. Own it: Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation. —Zig Ziglar If you put in the hard work, you'll become a thought leader in your industry. OBSESS ABOUT YOUR LEGACY Achieving thought leadership is one thing. Securing a legacy is a completely separate challenge. I (Scott) don't know about you, but I really care deeply about my legacy. I want to leave something behind for those who are passionate about improving their presentation and public speaking skills. That fact alone is a big reason why I wrote this book. It's my small footprint in this world. The good news is that we live in a world that obsesses about video. You can capture 4K video on the phone that is in your pocket. Everything you do can be recorded. When you pass away one day, what do you want to leave behind? Your presentations are a culmination of your greatest hits, so for starters, make sure you have something great to share.
PLAN FOR UNPREDICTABILITY No matter how much presenters prepare, they will never know exactly how an audience will react to their message. Will they love it? Will they hate it? The sad reality: audiences are unpredictable. They may be talkative. They may be tired. They may be inquisitive. They may even be hateful. Amazing presenters know how to control any situation, and that begins with knowing how to open and close your talk. FIVE POWERFUL WAYS TO OPEN YOUR PRESENTATION We all know that first impressions matter, so if you want to mitigate harsh or unnecessary judgment, you'll need to know how to open a presentation properly. Here are a few of our favorite tactics: USE THE POWER OF SILENCE. In February 2013, Amanda Palmer delivered a phenomenal TED Talk called the “The Art of Asking,” and she opened with silence. She spent the first 18 seconds setting up her equipment and then being silent. By doing so, she built a confident stage presence. As viewers, we are left waiting and wondering what's next, putting all the power and authority in her hands. This is what makes it an amazing tactic. If you are feeling extremely confident and charismatic, it's definitely an approach worth adding to your toolbox. LOOK TO THE FUTURE OR THE PAST. Prospective and retrospective statements can be incredibly powerful when done right. I'll give you an example of each. Let's say you want to be prospective with your opening. If this is the case, you might want to open with a statement like this: “Ten years from now, mobile devices will be a thing of the past.” Now you have the audience's attention. They are wondering how this can be. They love their iPhones. What could possibly replace them? No matter what they are wondering, you have them engaged from your opening line. Here's an example of a retrospective statement: “In 1969, we put a man on the moon. Today, we are beginning our journey to Mars.” Again, it's a compelling statement that leaves your audience wanting more. QUOTE SOMEONE. I (Scott) am a big fan of Stephen Hawking. If I decide to open my next presentation with one of his quotes, it will automatically build my level of credibility. Let's see it in action: “Stephen Hawking once said, ‘Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.' That's exactly what I want to talk about with you today.” With a few words, I'm looking smarter than I actually am—just ask my wife. SHARE SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY. Did you know that if you eat 30 to 90 grams of polar bear liver,[8] you could die? That's something extraordinary about something ordinary. As human beings, we love this type of information, so it is worth exploring as a potential presentation opener. TELL A STORY. Stories are part of our DNA. There are really no new stories. They are just retold in different ways by different people. Stories are forever. Open with one in your next presentation. Our Favorite Opening Method (Video): http://ethos3.com/treats/opening FIVE POWERFUL WAYS TO CLOSE YOUR PRESENTATION Understanding how to open a presentation is critical, but knowing how to close one is just as important. Here are a few of our favorite techniques: CIRCLE BACK AROUND. Our favorite movies and books always circle back around. Two of our favorite directors are the Coen brothers. Their movies are a bit dark, incredibly introspective, and wildly popular. Their classic Fargo demonstrates this point. In the very first scene of the movie, you see a car driving on a snowy road. The movie's resolution concludes with a very similar image and tone. As an audience member, you are provided with a sense of closure, which has a powerful emotional impact. BUILD UP TO SOMETHING. Let's take another lesson from Hollywood. One film that stands out to me is Bryan Singer's 1995 hit The Usual Suspects. I won't reveal any spoilers. Suffice it to say that it ends with an amazing twist. Singer spends 106 minutes[9] building up to something very profound. REPEAT THE IMPORTANT STUFF. In 1999, neurobiologist
DEVELOPING A UNIQUE POINT OF VIEW When my wife and I (Scott) can't find a good show or movie on Netflix, our next-best alternative is to look for a stand-up comedy act. Our personal favorites include Ali Wong, Brian Regan, and Jim Gaffigan. Each has a unique style and persona—a unique point of view (Figure 22.1). Figure 22.1: The Unique Style and Persona of Well-Known Comedians As a presenter, you need to do the same. Develop your own perspective on life and the world around you. Here are three suggestions to get you headed in the right direction: DEDICATE THE TIME. I'm a triathlete, but ice hockey is my favorite sport. For months, I had a terrible slap shot. Let's just say I'm glad you could hardly identify me with my helmet and mask. It was ugly. However, I wanted to get better, so I kept showing up. I kept swinging, and eventually, the puck started to lift off the ice. Eventually, it started to hit the net. In his book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell discusses the “10,000-Hour Rule,” which claims that the key to success is spending 10,000 hours on a specific task. If you want to be an expert, you must be willing to put in the hours. FIND YOUR AUTHENTIC VOICE. During the latter part of his career, my father worked for Anthony Robbins, so let's just say that success modeling was a big part of my life. I love finding people who have done amazing things and studying how they accomplished so much. It's always intriguing to discover how they decoded the art of mastery. Now, it's great to model their methods, but it is dangerous to copy. Taking inspiration from another person is empowering, but becoming a “me too” of that individual is deadly. I'll leave you with this: it's better to be a collection of many than a duplicate of another. FAIL AND FAIL AGAIN. We love failure. Seriously. We absolutely love it. It is what makes us human. More important, it is what makes us better humans—if we learn from our failures and mistakes. There is nothing “overnight” about having a platform, so use every day to learn and fall flat on your face. Just make sure you get up again. So fail hard and fail fast. It's going to take an abundance of trial-and-error experimenting with visuals, gestures, and speaking styles that are unique to you—and that is perfectly OK. Put in the time. Find your authentic voice. And don't be afraid to fail. If you are willing to do these things, you are on the right path to developing your own point of view.

I know, I know, we have not done a podcast in awhile. And by that I mean our last episode was August 27th of 2020! There's no real interesting story as to why we took such a long break, other than the fact that I (Scott) started my M.A. in Philosophy and Tim published a book. As it turns out, this takes up a lot of time. Well, fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately) for you all, we have come back from our extended hiatus well-rested and ready to talk some more apologetics and theology with you wonderful folks. Or I suppose more accurately, AT you wonderful folks. In this episode, Tim and I discuss some of the response he received to his book. In particular, we do a brief overview of some of the criticisms raised by Guillaume Bignon, a Calvinist whose views are critiqued in the book. While Tim is still yet to publish his full response, we wanted to give everyone a taste of some of the things he is going to say. Stay tuned for more episodes coming weekly! So as promised, and following on from our previous shock episode, this time we've covered the topic of shock in Trauma. It's a massive topic and one that we all, yet again, can make a huge difference for our patients' outcomes. There is some crossover as you'd expect from the concepts and assessment that we covered in our Shock episode, so we'd recommend taking a listen to that one first. Make sure you have a comfy seat and plenty of refreshments to keep you going for this one as we cover the following; Definition Aetiology Hypovolaemic shock Neurogenic shock Obstructive shock Cardiogenic shock Physiology; Traumatic coagulopathy Other diagnostics Controlling external haemorrhage Pelvic binders REBOA Avoiding coagulopathy BP targets & permissive hypotension Fluid choices & supporting evidence TEG/ROTEM Calcium TXA Vasopressors Preventing hypothermia Relieving obstruction Interventional radiology Damage control surgery As always we’d love to hear any thoughts or comments you have on the website and via twitter, and make sure you take a look at the references and guidelines linked below to draw your own conclusions. Christmas Spectacular 2018: We kick off the festivities with Todd bitching about trying to fix his own garage door opener...much to the potential of his own peril. We, of course, discuss Christmas candies and treats. Then we bumble through a description of the animated/clay-mated Christmas specials (20:15) that we all know and love...kinda. And we finish the episode with our top 5 lists of Christmas songs (48:05). This is then trumped by the debut of the first of potentially many BPST originals "Bipedal Locomotion - The Yukon Cornelius Chronicles" at the very end of the pod, for which I (Scott) wrote the first verse, and Todd the second. Enjoy at your own risk! *NOTE: We do not own the rights to any of the songs heard throughout this episode...cept for that amazing Yukon Cornelius track*
So lets see, we have a child like engineer, an anti-hero gunslinger trying to take whatever odd job he can to make ends meet and preferably get into space and keep flying, a super powerful female character that arrives unconscious in a case after being broken out of government captivity. Our hero is going to protect said superwoman while the galactic government of the many systems tries to hunt her down.Nope, its not Firefly - its an anime called Outlaw Star. Did Joss Whedon steal Firefly from this? No! Not a chance. But that doesn't stop people from seeing the similarities and saying he did. But stop, lets say he did get the idea for River Tam from this, and the basic setting of a used future, space western where humanity has colonized many systems and everything is a mix of English and Chinese culture and language...would that make Firefly any less amazing? To me no. To some maybe and that is at the center of this months topic, Copy Cat August. Joss Whedon did not steal Firefly from this terrible anime. Sorry Ragemaster, it is horrible and largely unwatchable. Sorry Anime fans, maybe I (Scott) just don't like Anime. (Sacrilege!!! Fake Science Fiction Fan!!! Fake Nerd!!!!!)
This is the first of this type of “special” episode. Since starting this podcast we’ve all had so many ideas for episodes, but not all of them fit into the mold of what The Coldbow Podcast is. So we’ve decided to experiment with special episodes, which are outside the main body of episodes. This is the first in a series of such special episodes — revolving around the music of Sabaton, a Swedish power metal band. There are a few of us Coldbros that really like history, and while none of us can claim any real acumen, we’ve been wanting to share our passion with you. I (Scott) just so happened to be listening to another podcast that featured a song by Sabaton and I fell in love with the band. With even a cursory glance at their song titles you’ll notice a pattern, they’re all based on historic events and/or figures. The first such title in Spotify’s “Popular” list is The Last Stand. A song about a small force of ancient warrior/body guards, tasked with protecting the Pope. This force is The Swiss Guard and they’re still around today in Vatican City. Turns out they have a long history, In 1527 these brave men fought and died against a much superior force. And thanks to a heroic last stand they were able to save the Pope and add to their legacy. Joined by guest Just Dave, a run-through of The Neverending Story is had. I (Scott) watched this for the first time in preparation for the episode and like it, but didn’t know how dark it was. This is pretty much … Continue reading →
Welcome to the first episode of the History Unplugged podcast. We are kicking things off by exploring the US Army’s failed experiment of using camels as the military’s main pack animal in the American Southwest. Camels are more than a zoo curiosity that spits on you in front of a field trip of first-graders. They are more than the mascot of your favorite cigarette brand. Camels were the long haul-truck of the ancient world. They created the global economy and the spice road. Were you a Roman Senator you want cinnamon from Sri Lanka or nutmeg from Indonesia? It came to you by camel. Were you a Chinese emperor who wanted gold, henna, storax, frankincense, asbestos, cloth, silk gauze, silk damask, glass, and silver from Arabia? A camel brought it to you. But did you know that America almost chose the camel as its preferred method of long-distance travel in the early nineteenth century? Before railroads or long-distance trucks, some Americans dreamed of millions of camels flooding the Southwest to make desert crossings easy and safe. A Secretary of War named Jefferson Davis thought the plan would work. He dispatched an Army Officer to the Middle East to purchase several dozen dromedaries and hire a few cameleers. Thus the U.S. Camel Corps was born. RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE To listen to a country song inspired by one of the cameleers, Hi Jolly, click here. MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE HISTORY UNPLUGGED PODCAST This is the first episode of History Unplugged. It celebrates unsung heroes, mythbusts historical lies, and rediscovers the forgotten stories that changed our world. There are two sorts of episodes that we feature on the History Unplugged podcast: the call-in show and author interviews. For history lovers who listen to podcasts, it is the most comprehensive show of its kind because it's the only one that dedicates episodes to both interviewing experts and answering questions from its audience. It features a call-in show where you can ask our resident historian (Scott Rank, PhD) absolutely anything (What was it like to be a Turkish sultan with 4 wives and 12 concubines? If you were sent back in time, how would you kill Hitler?) and long form interviews with historians who have written about everything—and I mean everything—including gruff World War II generals who flew with airmen on bombing raids, a war horse who gained the rank of sergeant, and presidents who gave their best speeches while drunk. For the call-in show it features an actual history question submitted from a listener just like you. I (Scott) will answer your question in 5-10 minutes. You can submit your questions to me by going here. You can ask me anything. What did the Vikings eat? What was it like to be a Turkish sultan with 4 wives and multiple concubines? If you were sent back in time with your current knowledge, how would you conquer the Roman Empire? What would be the best way to assassinate Hitler? The second sort of episode on our podcast is the long form interview (40 minutes - 1 hour) with top history book authors. These authors have written about everything—and I mean everything—including gruff World War II generals who flew with airmen on bombing raids, a war horse who gained the rank of sergeant, and presidents who gave their best speeches while drunk. I sit down with them and go in-depth on their topics. So far I've been blown away by the stories I've heard. Here are some of our guests lined up in the next few days. Robin Hutton, author of Sgt. Reckless, America's War Horse Mark Will-Weber, author of Mint Juleps with Teddy Roosevelt: The Complete History of Presidential Drinking Prof. Richard Weikart, author of Hitler’s Relgion: The Twisted Beliefs that Drove the Third Reich TO HELP OUT THE SHOW Leave an honest review on iTunes. Windows 10's Insiders program has let regular folks like you and I run beta copies of Windows and send bugs and feedback directly to the team like never before. I (Scott) talk to Jennifer Gentleman from the Windows team about how Feedback Driven Design shapes software on their team.
I would like to apologize in advance for what you're about to listen to. I (Scott) had a really bad cold at the time of recording and it's pretty noticeable how much I would rather be in my bed instead of talking about this film. Alas, I pushed through, even if Danny says most of the interesting and informative stuff while I just ramble in between coughs and sniffles. Anyway, we're talking about 'The Great Wall'. So enjoy that. I promise I'll do better next time. Also, stick around till the end to hear our John Wick 2 predictions...
Connectivity returns this week with episode 42, featuring the past, present, and future of Nintendo-related content. Kicking things off is the final installment in our Pikmin series, focusing this week on Pikmin 3. Join JP, Andy, and Carmine as they discuss what we know and what they hope is on the horizon for the Wii U launch title. If you can believe it, they even flirt with the idea of Pikmin 4, too. After that, Nicholas returns with another entry in his award winning* N-Focus series. This week's segment is all about the history of Game and Watch. Lastly, Neal, Scott, Danny, and Nate sit down to talk about their latest obsession - Theatrhythm Final Fantasy. If you are on the fence about this game, this segment should definitely win you over. And if you already have the game, well, you probably aren't listening to this because you are too busy playing. As always, you can click here to send us listener mail. Let us know what you thought about the three week long Pikmin series. If a big hit, we may just start doing more of those. Oh, and on a personal note, I (Scott) have now officially been with Nintendo World Report for one year. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who listened, commented, emailed, tweeted me, and everything else. I can't put into words how amazing it is to be doing this show for such an excellent audience. Thanks for everything. See you next week. *Winner of the 2012 "Boner Jam" award, presented by Scott Thompson.
Sometimes the most interesting conversations happen before or after the show. Often they happen with Jeff Atwood. I (Scott) called Jeff to get some audio for our other show http://thisdeveloperslife.com and was recording as soon as Jeff and I started chatting. Here's our unedited random personal phone call that I thought might be fun.
