In search of thought provoking astral projections from across the galaxy, the USS KINO60 has launched triumphantly for what will be remembered as a utopian journey through the stars. Cosmonauts Bart and Jenna have reported some bumpy viewing conditions and unstable nuke-happy alien civilizations, but for the most part their mission has remained stylish and largely made up of primary colors. We wish them the best – glory to the conquerors of the universe! In this episode, Bart and Jenna take a peak at some choice sci-fi genre flicks from behind the Iron Curtain. What started off as a look at the inspirations for 2001: A Space Odyssey morphed into an excuse to watch Ikarie XB-1 and settled in nicely with a dude standing on Venus shooting various Godzillas with a handgun. Please enjoy this peek into the optimistic future we could be living in right now if it weren't for the selfish capitalist pigs who hate peace and cooperation. The following films are discussed:• Silent Star (a.k.a. First Spaceship on Venus) (1960) Der schweigende Stern Directed by Kurt Maetzig Starring Yôko Tani, Oldrich Lukes, Ignacy Machowski• Planet of Storms (1962) Планета бурь Directed by Pavel Klushantsev Starring Vladimir Yemelyanov, Georgi Zhzhyonov, Gennadi Vernov• Encounter in Space (1963) Мечте навстречу Directed by Mikhail Karyukov & Otar Koberidze Starring Larisa Gordeichik, Boris Borisyonok, Otar Koberidze• Icarus XB-1 (1963) Directed by Jindrich Polák Starring Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Eleanor Parker• The Andromeda Nebula (1967) Туманность Андромеды Directed by Evgeniy Sherstobitov Starring Vija Artmane, Sergey Stolyarov, Nikolai Kryukov• Mission Mars (1968) Directed by Nicholas Webster Starring Darren McGavin, Nick Adams, George De Vries
This week it's all about Czech Cult Classics!Cultpix is proud to present seven digitally restored Czech cult classics with English subtitles in cooperation with the Czech Film Archive. An eighth film will be uploaded in June, with new English subtitles.Czechoslovakia (as It was back then) was home to some of the most innovative filmmaking in the 1960s, led by the likes of Miloš Forman and Jiří Menzel. But there were many other great films in different genres that seem fresh and fun even today. Joining us to discuss these we had Martin Kristenson, author, researcher, pop cultural expert, with a fascination for Czech culture; film, literature and music! "Ikarie XB 1" (1963) - The sci-fi classic that inspired Kubrick's "2001" is a great film in its own right. The year is 2163. The giant spaceship Ikarie XB1 carries colonists to a new planet. The journey is filled with unexpected dangers, like a strange abandoned ship. Too good for MS3K to make fun of. "Love Harvests in Summer" (1964) - Impressive counter-culture musical, which deeply affected the kids in Czechoslovakia. It is the story of forbidden love and lots of great music - call it "Hop Side Story". "Lemonade Joe" (1964) - A.k.a. "Lemonade Joe and the Horse Opera". Crazy western parody with blackface (bad) and Olga Schoberová (good), who was on the cover of Playboy the same year as Olinka Berova. She also has an un-credited role in "Ikarie XB 1" and a role in "Adela Did Not Have Supper Yet," before appearing in Hammer Horror films."Wedding Under Supervision" (1967) - An absurd comedy that takes places over 24 hours, when two bumbling policemen investigate an alleged rape in a small Czech town."Valerie and Her Week of Wonders" (1970) - A fantasy cult classic that has a fanatic following. Surreal tale in which love, fear, sex and religion merge into one fantastic world, based on a classical Czech novel of the same title."Adela Did Not Have Supper Yet" (1978) - A giant flesh-eating plant! Sounds familiar? The famous detective Nick Carter visits Prague in this thriller/spoof. He gets involved in strange case of a missing dog and a carnivorous plant. Also a celebration of Czech beer, pilsner."The Vampire of Ferat" (1982) - Is there such a thing as a vampire racing car? Doctor Marek is shocked when his beloved nurse Mima signs with a foreign car manufacturer to work as a rally-driver. The car is supposed to run on human blood. Oscar-winning Czech director Jirí Menzel in the lead role here. There's a Spotify playlist with 67 tunes, including complete soundtracks for "Ikarie XP1", "Valerie and Her Week of Wonders" and "Adela Did Not Have Supper Yet."
* INDICAÇÕES Poema “Ocaso do século" (Wislawa Szymborska). In this episode, we will look at what happened when the fantastical dream that was space exploration became reality - and the future became the past. Opening with a full-on discussion of what could be called "the first modern space exploration film", Ikarie XB 1 - we will continue to explore how the subgenre developed after Jurij Gagarin became the first human to leave our planet. While it still feels a little odd to say it, space exploration is no longer exclusively science fiction. We will actually look at documentaries and biopic, such as For All Mankind, First Man and Space Walk - looking at events sometimes more than 50 years in the past. We will also look at the biggest films taking up the mantle of 2001 and Solyaris - to various levels of success - with Interstellar and High Life - not to mention horror and/or found footage films like Alien and Europa Report - and much, much more. And throughout all of this we will look back at the question from our previous episode, namely what films are actually using the space exploration subgenre to do. Is it about creating a true sense of exploration - which we saw in the early films of fantasy. Is it about exploring concepts, such as 2001? Or is it about exploring the human psyche, as in Solyaris. We have found examples of each - not to mention overlaps. So strap yourself in as we take on all modern space exploration. Do let us know what you think we missed. We know, we know, there's several. And do visit us on ICM Forum.com to let us know what your favourite space exploration films are - and why! We can't wait to hear from you. - Ikarie XB1 and Europa Report will have spoiler warnings. Simply jump to the next film using the time codes below when this happens: Ikarie XB 1: 2:21 For All Mankind: 18:15 First Man: 23:07 Space Walk: 28:36 Alien: 33:05 2010: 38:59 Interstellar: 41:48 On Silver Globe: 47:30 Europa Report: 53:07 Prometheus: 1:07:39 Gravity: 1:11:29 Sunshine: 1:15:39 The Martian: 1.17.32 High Life: 1.22.30

The last mix in our series with CPH:DOX is made by the one and only Felix Kubin. Felix Kubin has been involved with the noise project Klangkrieg, the communist singing group Liedertafel Margot Honecker and the tetchy teenage bands Die Egozentrischen 2 and x2. Reaching from abstract Expressionism to Pop Surrealism and cassette tape punk. If isolation and social distancing is a marathon separated in different phases, there's the right music that helps to survive each one of them. Join Felix Kubin for almost 2 hours of Radio Immunity with four sections of quirky and peaceful film scores. Felix Kubin will guide you through it all. "I am not a collector. My records observe me. They lead their own life. The easiest records to find in my archive are the film scores. I only have a small bunch of them because a lot of film music is mediocre, pompous and unnecessary. The scores I put together for this collection are so strong in form and content that they can easily exist without the films. Their composers experimented with new techniques and means of expression. Some of the scores are abstract, some cross the border to foley sound. It seems that production companies and directors respected the artistic freedom of film composers more in the past. But film music can never be just a greasy background noise. Film music has to be an actor - or stay silent. The Cult of Kim Newman's Left Hand While getting the maximum possible out of the name 'Hermann Kermit Warm', Tim and Graham head out West for a review of Jacques Audiard's English-language debut "The Sisters Brothers", and revive an old Eclectica staple with Question of the Week. While they were watching Joaquin Phoenix's ongoing battles with enunciation, 4-Panel resident Andrew was in the screen next door watching DC's latest effort to turn their fortunes around - "Shazam!" Does it earn its exclamation mark? Off the Shelf sees Mick beam in from next week's show to cover Second Run's blu-ray release of the landmark Czech sci-fi "Ikarie XB-1", while Graham puzzles over a mid-period Resnais in the form of Arrow Academy's "Mélo". After that, it only remains to find out which of next week's releases reminds Producer Rob of Five Nights at Freddy's.
