In The Business of Beauty: Gender and the Body in Modern London (Bloomsbury, 2020), historian Jessica Clark takes the reader on a tour through the shifting commercial and cultural landscape of London in the second half of the 19th Century and the early decades of the 20th. The business of beatification––aimed at both men and women, and conducted by both men and women––was influenced by and reflective of shifting attitudes towards women in public spaces, the influx and success of immigrants in the nation's capital, the development of wholesale production processes and the standardization of commodities, and the cultural competition between European nations that accompanied the growing political and military competition at the fin de siècle, among other things. In other words, Jessica Clark shows us that The Business of Beauty intersects with an amazing array of historical subjects. How does understanding business help us understand sex? In The Business of Birth Control: Contraception and Commerce in Britain before the Sexual Revolution (Manchester UP, 2020), Claire Jones, a Senior Lecturer in the History of Medicine at the University of Kent, explores the intersection of commerce and medicine in the interwar period in Britain, as a way of rethinking both the history of contraception and the history of sex. The book uses new archival research, as well as perspectives from business history, to show changing attitudes and practices of people, clinics, and companies in the era before the contraceptive pill. Hey! YES WE HAVE A PODCAST - and it's featuring info we talk about in Sugar Cookie Marketing Group. "Price anchoring refers to the practice of establishing a price point which customers can refer to when making decisions. Every time you see a discount with “Was $100 Is Now $75”, the $100 is the price anchor for the $75 sales price."In The Business of Baking, Corrie talks about the love and hate relationship we have with customers - but we need to remember - these clients are 1) our livelihood and 2) probably not cookie experts; so when dealing with client communication, we need to keep that in mind. BE KIND. Without these folks, we can't pay the mortgage, so even when we have to tell them no, we need to do it by telling them yes. Often shortened to “GMBs” in the marketing world, this is essentially Google Maps crossed with social media. Creating a Google My Business means you can collect reviews across Google, you can post events that are attached to your store name when someone Googles your business, and you can connect your website, phone number, and more all in one really convenient place.Create your GMB: https://business.google.com/In The Business of Baking, I read through an awesome post we had goin' in the group - "Let's Crowd Source a Cookie Contract!" http://www.survivingthesystem.orgJames Arthur Ray joins us again to talk about his newest efforts to create a new community.First, we talk about his newest book release. In The Business of Redemption, James Arthur Ray brings together his nearly 30 years of experience in leadership, entrepreneurship, performance, and business. He tracks his meteoric rises and epic falls, successes and failures, to suggest that leadership is about “paying the price.” Leadership is earned through battles and risks, failures and successes, resilience and grit and resourcefulness; and the courage and commitment to get back up and never give up. True leaders take Absolute Responsibility when things go badly; and they give all the credit and praise when things go famously well. True leaders are fighting for a cause that’s bigger than their own personal creature comforts, moods, and needs and that takes The Business of Redemption. We also talk about #ProjectStayHome. Over the last several week's people have been asking for more support from James and his wife, Bersabeh, and his team during this challenging time of Covid-19. In response to those requests, #ProjectStayHome was born. A growth-minded community that meets once per week to discuss topics relevant to overcoming life's challenges.https://www.amazon.com/Business-Redemption-Price-Leadership-Both-ebook/dp/B083H5LDLN/ref=sr_1_1?crid=16Z956XVAFDZK&dchild=1&keywords=business+of+redemption&qid=1590276974&sprefix=business+of+re%2Caps%2C257&sr=8-1https://www.jamesraystore.com/product/the-ultimate-performance-forum/

Dennis Haugen is a North Dakota farmer who ran a side business cleaning grain. In 1995 a 50- car train derailment on his farm sparked another business venture: salvage work. He has his own trademarked radish brand for cover crop mixes and his company, General Grain, handles salvage jobs all over North America. What happens when a barge of distillers grain catches on fire en route to New Orleans? Or an entire ship of fraudulently labeled organic grain from Ukraine is left to rot on the dock in Baltimore? That's where Dennis comes in. In The Business of Agriculture you've gotta look for the next opportunity. This is an interesting and inspirational listen!
