As broadcast October 2, 2022 with plenty of heartfelt joy and mystery for all of our aching hearts. Tonight, we pay tribute to Pharoah Sanders and his unbelievable six decades as one of the world's most talented and innovative tenor saxophone players by doing the only thing we know how, which is play music. It's hard to encapsulate a man as futuristic, cosmic, and spiritual as Sanders, who started in music with John Coltrane's band back as a young man in the early 1960's, but we needed more than the alotted time of two hours to even come close to doing so. Thus, we played some of Pharoah Sanders' most enduring work for the full two hours of regular programming, and added an extra hour to let his final goodbye play out uninterrupted, which was our 2021 album of the year in Floating Points with Pharoah Sanders and The London Symphony Orchestra on the Promises LP. In parts 3 and 4, we eschewed any type of interference with the music here on the streaming form of the show and just did simple intros at the start so that the music could speak for itself, and of course, Promises is totally without intro, interjection, or any noise aside from its own. Rest In Power, Pharoah Sanders.
