Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast
Episode Summary: Join me with Alicia Michelle for a candid discussion about my personal journey through depression as a Christian doctor. Not only did we focus on depression's physical, emotional and spiritual components, but we also addressed fundamental questions surrounding depression, such as its definition, the intersection of faith and mental health, barriers to self-recognition, and practical strategies for identification. You won't want to miss this episode as we offer insights on depression from personal, professional, and spiritual perspectives. Questions we answer in this episode: What is depression? What is the spiritual component of depression? Do Christians get depressed? Why don't we recognize depression in ourselves? How do we identify depression? What can we do spiritually speaking to help address depression? Scripture References: John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. 2 Corinthians 10:5 “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” Psalm 30:5 “For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” Recommended Resources: Break Free from Feeling Never Enough Sacred Scars: Resting in God's Promise That Your Past Is Not Wasted by Dr. Michelle Bengtson The Hem of His Garment: Reaching Out to God When Pain Overwhelms by Dr. Michelle Bengtson YouVersion 5-Day Devotional Reaching Out To God When Pain Overwhelms Today is Going to be a Good Day: 90 Promises to Start Your Day Off Right by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the AWSA 2023 Inspirational Gift Book of the Year Award, the Christian Literary Awards Reader's Choice Award in four categories, and the Christian Literary Awards Henri Award for Devotionals YouVersion 7-Day Devotional, Today is Going to be a Good Day YouVersion 7-Day Devotional, Today is Going to be Another Good Day Breaking Anxiety's Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God Promises by Dr. Michelle Bengtson Breaking Anxiety's Grip Free Study Guide Free 7-Day YouVersion Bible Reading Plan for Breaking Anxiety's Grip Hope Prevails: Insights from a Doctor's Personal Journey Through Depression by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader's Choice Award Hope Prevails Bible Study by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader's Choice Award Trusting God Through Cancer 1 Trusting God Through Cancer 2 Revive & Thrive Women's Conference Subdue Stress and Anxiety: Fifteen Experts Offer Comprehensive Tools in Ten Minutes a Day. Well, this podcast started out as a history of astrology and turned into a sermon lol. Astrology is a huge cultural movement right now, seemingly even among Christians. But the Bible makes it clear that we are not to trust in astrology as Christians. We are to trust in God alone. I hope you enjoy the episode

Betsy Painter is a creative writer and conservation biologist, who is passionate about environmental care and its human dimensions. She has studied Religion and Ecology in graduate school with a focus on the beautification of nature in the redemptive Biblical narrative and its implications for environmental hope and messaging today. I spoke with Betsy about her new book, A Christian's Guide to Planet Earth: Why it Matters and How to Care For it. More and more Christians have been working and supportive of policies and actions to help protect the Earth in recent years. Climate change has become a big issue for many young Christians and its cool to see those who are making a difference. I thought it was really neat that Betsy studied Religion and Ecology -- what a neat combo. And to bring in a Biblical narrative to all of this is so important. When I think about Earth, my mind roams back to Eden and all the majestic creativity God put into forming this planet, it's many kinds of plants, animals, mountains, waters and mysteries. Betsy has a world of knowledge and I think every Christian needs to care about this issue! A stand alone episode for High Schoolers, talking about what it looks like to practically live for Jesus in a secular school/society.
The promotion of secular manifestation (essentially the law of attraction) is everywhere! It's becoming a movement! As Christians, is this something we can dabble in or should it be avoided completely? As we take a look at this popular practice, we see 2 Timothy 4:3-5 come to life before our very eyes! If the COVID-19 pandemic taught us anything, it's that health is the greatest wealth. Kimberly chats with naturopath, Dr. David Sandstrom on incorporating a holistic model of health into your life combining the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. @crownyourselfnow In this episode, you will learn… What is the difference between allopathic and naturopathic medicine? (5:00) How can ownership help you with your health? (11:00) Why do you need to remove troublesome foods? (21:00) How do limiting beliefs affect your body? (26:30) Why do you need to have a healthy thinking pattern? (31:00) What difference can believing that you can do something make? (34:00) Why do you need to be clear of your "why"? (36:45) How can having small goals help you towards success? (37:45) What role does learning to trust your body play in health? (41:30) How does your spirit help with your health goals? (44:00) Why are strong relationships good for your health? (50:00) What can maximizing your health potential help you? (56:00) David Sandstrom is a Naturopathic Doctor, Certified Nutritional Counselor, Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, Certified Metabolic Typing Advisor, and a Certified Biblical Health Coach. He holds an MBA from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and is also an Airline Captain for a Major, legacy carrier based in Atlanta, Georgia. From a very young age David sensed a God-given passion for health and wellness. When HE was in grade school, he had a friend that came from a family of 10 kids. You can bet there were plenty of cold viruses being brought home by his siblings. However, this kid never got sick. But, from Kindergarten to 6th grade he never missed a day of school from illness. He was also the happiest, most optimistic person I knew. David became convinced even at this young age, that his joyful approach to life helped protect him from illness. This was the start of his interest and passion for natural and holistic health. In the mid 1990s David developed persistent sinusitis. The doctors gave him all the drugs they could. When the drugs failed to bring him relief, they recommended surgery. The internet was still in its infancy, but with his dial-up connection he did some research on sinus surgery and the prognosis wasn't good. It was in that moment he said, "There's got to be a better way." David made some changes to his diet by eliminating some of the more offensive foods and did a yeast cleanse. Long story short, 30 days later David felt like a new person. He could breathe through his nose again and he felt better than he had in years. From that point on, David was hooked on natural health. After the terrorist attacks of 9-11 the airline industry got hit hard and David received his credentials as a naturopathic doctor and opened his private practice office in 2005. He did natural health coaching until 2011 when he and his family moved to Atlanta. The airline industry was looking up, so he never opened a practice in Atlanta. But, his passion never faded. In 2012, David was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease. He knew that getting over chronic Lyme and the co-infections that go along with it was going to be no easy task. That's when he decided to learn all I could about true, holistic, whole-person health that nurtures the entire person, body, mind, and spirit. What David learned changed my life. He beat Lyme disease without any medical intervention whatsoever. It also revolutionized the way he now looks at health and wellness. After recovering from Lyme disease, David wrote my book "The Christian's Guide to Holistic Health." He is a teacher at heart and I knew that he couldn't remain silent about what he'd learned. Now, David is the host of the Holistic Health Matters Podcast, and continues to spread his message of faith and fruits and veggies. **WEBSITE** https://www.davidsandstrom.com **SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS** FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/david.j.sandstrom INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/david.j.sandstrom YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvhfzfjXT8LceffVRlbrBqw/playlists APPLE PODCASTS: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/holistic-health-matters/id1510948675 **OFFER** "The Christian's Guide to Holistic Health" on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3biTxfA ABCDE method https://davidsandstrom.com/crown/ Thank you so much for tuning in! It would seem that most people are naturally competitive to one degree or another. Whether it be in relation to our career or our grades or perhaps sports, we all tend to find some niche to excel at in order to demonstrate we are -better- than others. What role does this competitive spirit play in the kingdom of heaven- Ryan explains in the following sermon from Matthew 18-1-6 entitled, -The Christian's Guide to Greatness.-

How should Christians vote? Are there Christian political parties? How do we get along with people who think differently!? --- It's almost election day. Time to rush to the polls! (Or hopefully, you turned in your mail-in ballots). This is that time of year where we get to rouse up all that tension and piss off those select family members right before we are forced to sit and have a big turkey dinner together. Man, this year has flown by. Every election cycle it becomes even more evident just how much our faith gets tied up in our politics. But why is that? And are we to understand other people's political choices when we are so busy trying to defend our own? This week we are talking about a Christian's guide to political parties. We discuss how a Christian can be a part of any political party, how most people actually desire the same things, and how like love and hate, different political parties are more alike than they are different. It is one of the most difficult asks we could give, but we ask of you this: This election season, please try to refrain from needless debates that just weaken your own mental health. Try to see people for what they are, a piece of God's glory with their own lenses they filter the world through. If you can see the human in them, then you can find the God in you. --- JOIN THE COMMUNITY: If you'd like to keep the conversation going, we want to invite you, our reckless listeners, to join The Reckless Community! This weekend, welcomed Pastor Rachael Jenneman to the pulpit as she shared, “A Christian's Guide to Social Justice." Social Justice. A controversial topic itself about controversial issues. There is a desire in all of us for justice because we are created in God's image. God is a God of justice. However, the 'justice' that is manifesting in our culture today is very unloving and filled with condemnation. But how does God say we should handle times of social injustice? As with anything in our lives, we must always go back to God's love letter, the Bible. This weekend we will topok a peek at Queen Esther and how she became the ultimate social justice warrior during a very dark time in her people's history."
SUMMARY:Living in a country full of political tension, what does it look like for Christian men to live with conviction? In our hearts we want the very best for the next generation, but we feel concern over a seismic shift in our culture. In a country where Judeo-Christian values and perspectives were once a majority stakeholder in determining our direction, we as Christian men now feel like a silent minority. So how are we supposed to live and proclaim our beliefs in the midst of our post-Christian nation? How can men live with conviction and leverage this season for the advantage of Jesus and His kingdom? Listen as Vince Miller shares how we might leverage this political season for Jesus Christ.
