Happy Halloween, everybody! And more than that: welcome to another season of Christmas Past. Yes, it's still Halloween. But that's the perfect time to kick things off, because it gives us a chance to honor the classic Christmas tradition of sharing a ghost story. Our Victorian forebears really loved their ghost stories — for all occasions, but perhaps especially for Christmas. Many magazines of the era published ghost stories specifically for the Christmas season. The stories didn't necessarily involve Christmas; but they were meant to be enjoyed on Christmas Eve, adding a little extra chill to a cold winter's night.Though the tradition has faded, it's not gone altogether. And that's thanks in part to my friends at Biblioasis publishing. Every year, they publish a series of classic ghost stories beautifully illustrated by the acclaimed artist known only as Seth. It's become a yearly tradition here on Christmas Past to start the season off with a story from their current series. In today's story, when a group of tourists visits the deserted island of Podolo, one wants to rescue a feral cat they find there, and the others reluctantly agree. The Drovers Inn has stood for over 300 years and is one of Scotland's oldest and most haunted pubs. This establishment was named for the highland drovers, which were cattle drivers. Over the years, thousands of people have stayed here. Some have experienced paranormal activity and there seems to be many stories connected to this location and to the drovers themselves that involve death. And this, of course, leads to ghost stories. Functions of the Inspector General IGWC function  The new statutory role of the Inspector-General of Water Compliance (Inspector-General) brings together the Commonwealth's responsibilities into a single statutory office. The Inspector-General will also have the compliance and enforcement functions currently held by the Murray-Darling Basin Authority. The new Inspector-General of Water Compliance will have regulatory powers under Commonwealth law. The Inspector-General will be able to work across the whole Basin to strengthen compliance, increase transparency and improve trust. The Inspector-General will provide independent oversight and monitoring of Commonwealth and Basin state compliance. A key priority for the Inspector-General will be to encourage greater consistency in the guidelines and standards across the Basin—so all water users are held to the same high bar. To do this, the Inspector-General will have new powers to make guidelines and standards, which will help build greater consistency across the Basin. The Inspector-General's main areas of compliance responsibility are: monitoring and auditing of water resource plan compliance investigating and enforcing non-compliance with sustainable diversion limits and assurance of Basin state compliance and enforcement frameworks, through audits and investigations supporting the development and implementation of standards and methods to improve the accuracy of water measurement to increase the transparency of water take across the Basin enforcing compliance with the Basin Plan water trading rules monitoring and reporting on the requirements of the Basin Plan and water resource plans related to the protection of planned environmental water The MDBA will retain its roles in: assessing water resource plans SDL accounting and reporting and the development of remote sensing and emerging technologies and the evaluation of Basin Plan outcomes

When Lynn and I got married we asked for a full sermon to be preached. Our pastor at the time, Leigh Robinson preached a four point sermon on the purpose of marriage. Marriage is for partnership, marriage is for procreation, marriage is for pleasure, and marriage is for perfection. One of the main goals of marriage is holiness. This is a distinct perspective that Christianity brings to the issue of marriage. For many marriage is about not burning, or not being lonely, or having kids, these are true but a major part of marriage is God's purpose to make us holy. Paul has been describing how a husband should love his wife as Christ does the church. But in typical fashion Paul can't allude to Christ without extrapolation, his heart is full of the wonder of what Christ has done for us. He not only talks about Jesus sacrificial love in v25, but goes on to describe a love that keeps on giving, not only to save but to sanctify and ultimately glorify His bride, v26-27, ‘that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.' So today as we continue our series on marriage we have two things to do, we need to stand amazed with Paul at the work of Christ for the church, and then we need to apply this so how husbands should love their wives.
