“I thought, you know what I could do? I could make games.” Julien Sharp is a game inventor and industry executive who moved to Minnesota in 2022 to head up the U.S. division of Paris-based Asmodee Group, a global game company with a portfolio that includes Catan, Spot it!, Ticket to Ride, and Star Wars X-Wing. An avid game player, who can solve a Rubik Cube in 45 seconds (which she says is amateur stuff), Sharp started out in the industry as the inventor of several games including Disruptus and Juxtabo. She sold her company, Funnybone Toys, to FoxMind Toys & Games, and went on to work for popular names including What Do You Meme? And Spin Master toys. Sharp takes us inside the fast-growing $13 billion global industry, from the challenge of creating a game that endures to the power of play—for both kids and adults. Sharp says games are played every day in the Asmodee office in Lino Lakes, Minn. But her work is not all fun and games. “Budgets, logistics, sell-throughs—there's all the aspects of business,” she says. “But if you're going to do all that, why not do it in games?” Following our conversation with Sharp, we go Back to the Classroom with the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business, where Tera Galloway is an associate professor in the Department of Management—and an avid game player who is working to incorporate games into her business classes. “The idea of gamification in learning is huge. There's the collaborative component, which is good for mental health and it increases [feelings of] belonging.” Galloway is currently working on teaching methods that use board games to teach leadership, cultural change and strategic thinking.

www.commsolutionsmn.com- It's no secret, we hate odd year elections. Very few people come out, and the majority of those are activists, union members, and the uber political. Should 3,500 people decide who makes policy for a city of 50,000? Why don't we just make it easy for people to vote? We hear so much about making it as easy as possible for everyone to have their voice heard, and then so many places have these odd year elections. They are done solely so one side can control the election results. This is the wrong way to go about it. You will find odd year elections in small cities like Appleton and in big cities like Minneapolis and St Paul. Some races have competition and some are completely uncontested. How do races even go uncontested, let alone an entire slate of races in a single city or school district? There were numerous referendums and sales tax implementations on the ballot, which passed more in the metro than outstate. Minneapolis also has a number of races where candidates are either on the Democratic Socialist ticket and the Socialist Workers' Party ticket. Ilhan Omar hand-picked the new mayor of St Louis Park. Have fun with all that. We have to stop with the odd year elections. They do nothing, but secure the DFL's hold on local elections. We also discussed the recent death of Matthew Perry and those that went too soon that have left an impact on us. It prompts a discussion on the search for meaning, and I think we may have figured it out. Have you checked out our Spotify playlist? Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this podcast, I'm joined by Lurch, and we cover everything you need to know about your Harley-Davidson sealed wheel bearings. We were replacing the rocker cover ad rocker cover housing gaskets on my 2014 Harley Street Glide Special. A step in the replacement procedures required us to rotate the rear tire. We noticed that my rear tire would move side to side and there was an audible "knocking" sound coming from the wheel as we manipulated it side to side. We removed the tire and found that one of the sealed wheel bearings was failing. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE You can get the Jims Bearing Tool we used in the video HERE. The rear wheel of model years 2008 to current touring models equipped with ABS require three non-ABS bearings (Harley Part #9276B) and one ABS bearing (Harley Part #9252A). The front wheel requires one non-ABS and one ABS bearing. There is o difference in bearing parts numbers for the front and the rear wheel. Non-touring model rear wheels only require one ABS and one non-ABS bearing. We sell All Balls Racing bearings in the Law Abiding Biker Store. You can shop them HERE. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! We know some guys that change their bearings at every single tire change, just for good measure. Harley says you should inspect your wheel bearings at every tire change. You do this by inserting a finger into the inner race of the bearing and rotating it in both directions. The bearing should rotate freely and smoothly. If you note any drag, rough rotation, or abnormal noises you should replace them. Elliot McGrath is from New Hope, Minnesota. He's considered a BMX legend in the state of 10,000 lakes. Elliot first started riding bikes with his brothers by making jumps. And then he got his chance at the old Rehbeins indoor track that was in a barn in Lino Lakes. By the time Elliot was 14 he was on tour with Stile Industries. He says his class was really hard with Corben Sharrah, Conner Fields, Tory Nyhaug to Tommy Zula. He credits the class for him becoming a better rider. At 15 Elliot took a break from racing. Eventually he would return motivated. He eventually turned pro after missing out on an amateur title. Racing A pro went well. But when he went AA the competition was much stiffer. His last sponsor as a pro was Staats. His last race was a little over 2yrs ago in Sarasota, Florida. Elliot says he's retired but interested in racing some vet pro races.

Raise your hand if you're looking forward to breaking your Lenten fast after the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. That's pretty natural, right? But before we do that, we need to double-down on our prayer and sacrifices for a special group of our sisters and brothers. They're RCIA candidates and catechumens – those who will be welcomed into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil through the Sacraments of Baptism, the Eucharist and Confirmation. So, what's it like for them right now and how can we unite with them now and into the future? Let's ask Meisha Johnson. She's a convert to the Catholic faith and the Coordinator of Mission at Saint Joseph of the Lakes in Lino Lakes.

Minnesota’s recidivism rate has been improving. But what happens when formerly incarcerated people look for work and housing? Are they finding the support they need to reintegrate into the community? This week, we’re revisiting recent conversations we’ve had about Minnesota’s persistent racial disparities. First: this In Focus event from February 2021 about the challenges faced by Minnesota’s formerly incarcerated residents and what we can do as a state to support successful reentry after incarceration. The event was presented by MPR News and partner Tech Dump and hosted by Angela Davis. Twin Cities-based Tech Dump is one of the largest collectors and recyclers of electronic waste in Minnesota. The nonprofit also operates as a social enterprise that provides jobs and training to adults facing barriers to employment. To watch a video recording of the conversation and explore related resources aggregated by Tech Dump, check out the original In Focus post here. Guests: Nadine Graves is a former Hennepin County public defender who now represents parents in child protection civil cases. She has also represented hundreds of people charged with criminal offenses ranging from misdemeanors to felonies. She is chair of the board for the nonprofit We Are All Criminals, an organization working to challenge people’s perceptions of what it means to be “criminal.” She also hosts a podcast called “The Waiting Room.” The daughter of Liberian immigrants, Graves holds degrees from Delaware State University and Mitchell Hamline School of Law. Richard McLemore II is the executive director of McLemore Holdings, an African American, culturally inclusive organization focused on providing holistic professional development workshops, renters and homebuyers education courses, wealth building courses and healing circles to people in need, including formerly incarcerated community members. He was previously the housing director for Ujamaa Place, which primarily serves African American men ages 18 to 30 in the Twin Cities metro area. He has also worked with the city of St. Paul’s ETHOS diversion program and serves on the board of directors for We Are All Criminals. Brother Shane M. Price is the co-founder of the Power of People Leadership Institute, where he is the lead trainer. Their personal development and leadership training program has been offered to offenders at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Faribault since December 2005 and has since expanded to facilities in Lino Lakes, Moose Lake and Rush City. He also directs the program’s two re-entry houses in north Minneapolis. He previously worked for Hennepin County as an administrative assistant, research analyst and coordinator of the African American Men Project. Josh Wilson is employed by the Department of Public Works for the city of Minneapolis. Part of Josh’s story is that he has served four sentences in Minnesota penitentiaries. After his last release in 2010, he wanted a change and connected to resources that continue to sustain him today: a great mentor, a strong spiritual faith, and steady employment. Josh entered the jobs training program at Tech Dump, created for people who face barriers to employment, and graduated in 2012. He is a resource for individuals who are beginning the process of reentry after incarceration. Use the audio player above to listen to the full conversation. Subscribe to the MPR News with Angela Davis podcast on: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify or RSS. MPR News’ In Focus is a series of convenings we are committed to leading on Minnesota’s persistent racial disparities. Through conversations with community leaders that are shaped by our curious, engaged audience, MPR News hopes to encourage new connections and relationships that will help Minnesota communities make progress toward equity and inclusion. Editor’s note: This program originally aired in February 2021 and was rebroadcast on May 10.
Gov. Tim Walz and other state officials announced that many of the state’s community vaccination sites are now taking those who don’t have appointments. Walk-ins for those 16 years of age and older are now accepted at community vaccination sites in Bloomington at the Mall of America, St. Paul at Roy Wilkins Auditorium, Lino Lakes and Oakdale. Walk-ins for those 18 and over are being accepted in Mankato, Duluth, Rochester and St. Cloud. Walz says, since Minnesotans under 18 need to receive consent from a parent or guardian, the state is encouraging parents, guardians and families to walk in and get vaccinated together. The federally-supported State Fairgrounds is not currently accepting walk-in appointments. The increased availability of vaccine appointments comes as the state prepares to end capacity restrictions later this month, and double down on the vaccine push. Here’s Walz in a recent press conference. 2:07 WALZ: Back in March and April of last year, I said our only vaccine was social distancing and mitigation. That’s no longer true. We rank near the top for testing, fewest in cases and fewest in deaths. So, again: Walk-ins for those 16 years of age and older are now accepted at community vaccination sites in Bloomington at the Mall of America, St. Paul at Roy Wilkins Auditorium, Lino Lakes and Oakdale. Walk-ins for those 18 and over are being accepted in Mankato, Duluth, Rochester and St. Cloud. Minnesotans can continue to make Community Vaccination Program appointments ahead of time by visiting vaccineconnector.mn.gov. I’m Cole Premo.
In mid-April, Minnesota announced the opening of a new vaccination site at Lino Lakes. That makes it the ninth permanent vaccination site in the state. These mass vaccination sites are part of Minnesota’s COVID-19 Community Vaccination Program. The goal of this program is to make it easier for Minnesotans to get vaccinated, wherever they are.Other permanent vaccination sites are located in St. Cloud, Minneapolis, Duluth, Rochester, Bloomington, Saint Paul, Mankato and Oakdale—with the potential for more to come. These sites do not accept walk-ins. To get an appointment, sign up for the state’s Vaccine Connector at M-N dot GOV backslash VACCINE CONNECTOR. This will notify you when vaccine opportunities open near you.Once you get your Community Vaccination Program Appointment, try to arrive 15 minutes early. Appointments are staggered to help with social distancing.Vaccine shots are provided at no cost. But if you have an insurance card, bring it along. The state will use the information to bill the insurance company on your behalf. If you are uninsured or for some reason your insurance company does not cover all the cost, the state will cover the difference.Insurance is not required. The COVID vaccine is free to everyone.Expect to sit for at least 15 minutes after you receive the vaccine. If you have allergies, you’ll be asked to wait 30 minutes. This is to ensure there are no reactions to the vaccine.
Script: Boozhoo, aaniin, I’m Cole Premo, here’s your Daily Update. Eligible Minnesotans now have the ability to book appointments at Minnesota’s community vaccination locations directly and at their own convenience, Gov. Tim Walz says. Minnesotans can use the Vaccine Connector tool to directly schedule appointments at the sites. If appointments are full, there’s an option to get notified when appointments free up. You can find the vaccine connector tool at vaccineconnector.mn.gov. These community vaccination sites are located around the state… locations include St. Paul, Bloomington, Oakdale, Mankato, Duluth, Rochester, Lino Lakes and St. Cloud. There’s also a federally-supported community vaccination site at the State Fairgrounds that is serving residents of socially vulnerable zip codes around the Twin Cities. Direct scheduling comes as the state has administered more than 4 million doses to nearly 2.5 million Minnesotansl since vaccinations began in late 2020. More than 56% of Minnesotans 16 years of age and older and 85% of adults 65 years of age and up have received at least one dose. In other news, the state will again be administering the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. Federal officials recently lifted the pause on the vaccine after a very small number of people developed blood clots after receiving the dose. Of the 8 million doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine already administered in the United States, there were 15 cases with blood clots discovered. Health experts say the risks from getting COVID-19 -- including getting blood clots due to the virus -- are higher than the rare risk associated with the vaccine. A safety warning will be handed out at vaccine sites. I’m Cole Premo.

This week on the Cone, (Just in time for Dental Health Month) Dr. Andy Roark finds a resorptive lesion on the upper 3rd premolar of a senior cat who has renal disease. Does he need to put this cat under anesthesia to address her dental disease? Is there an acceptable alternative? If we have to go to oral surgery, how do we set ourselves up for success? Veterinary dentist Dr. Donnell Hansen is on the case and she's laying down how SHE treats these cases. There may or may not be a bunch of bull head eggs hatching on her kitchen counter as we speak. Editor: Dustin Bays dustin.bays@baysbrass.com @Bays4Bays Twitter/Instagram

After Weezer and Bon Jovi both delayed the release of their new albums, Dan, Evan and Eric pivot to reviewing Reunions, the latest album from alt-country superstars Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. Jason Isbell's thoughtful lyrics manage to connect with everyone. It must be the quarantine. Getting us all stirred up emotionally. For the beard portion of the podcast, Eric drops a review of Beardbrand's Tea Tree Styling Balm — a styling product from a beard company that he put on his hair and not on his beard. Evan invites Eric out for ice cream. Including that here in the show notes so Evan does not back down on his promise of ice cream. Finally, in the beer portion of the episode, Eric and Evan drink and review Bixby, an 8.2% imperial sour ale from Lua Brewing in Des Moines. Dan imbibes some Löyly, a 7.1% sahti-style farmhouse ale from Hammerheart Brewing in Lino Lakes, Minnesota. Interesting brews for interesting times.

UMD sophomore forwards Anneke Linser and Gabbie Hughes dug out from Duluth’s recent blizzard to join us this week. The pair from Lino Lakes, Minn. have been on the same team, and often the same line, since the U8 days. And you can give credit to Gabbie’s dad for first putting this successful duo together. But college hockey almost split them up. We learn about their hockey journey over the last 10 years or so and how it’s brought them closer together. And of course, we test how well they know one another with a little game at the end. Hosted by News Tribune college hockey reporter Matt Wellens and My9 Sports commentator Zach Schneider, and produced by the News Tribune’s Samantha Erkkila, new episodes of Bulldog Insider are released every Thursday throughout the season. You can listen to Season 1 and 2 of Bulldog Insider at duluthnewstribune.com, on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. Official Website: If you currently have or are considering purchasing a Harley-Davidson extended warranty plan at the time of purchase on a new bike with the Milwaukee-eight motor, you may reconsider now and into the future if things stay in their current state. If you are planning on adding specific performance upgrades, it may void both the two-year manufacturer's warranty and any 3 or 5-year Harley extended warranty you purchased, commonly referred to as an "extended service plan". These new strict warranty policies really only pertain to 2017 & newer Harley's with the Milwaukee-Eight motor. Those of us that own earlier models really haven't had to deal with what I'm about to reveal to you. (This is a guide only. Read the actual warranty paperwork for yourself.) SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE 60 Day Service & Warranty Registration (SWR) Let's first talk about the 60-day warranty rule, which is referred to as a "Sales & Warranty Registration" or "SWR". If within the first 60 days of your new Harley purchase you purchase Harley Screamin' Eagle parts and have them installed by a Harley dealership mechanic, all parts and labor will be covered during the two-year manufacturer's warranty and during any extended service plan you purchase. Also, all the parts and labor will be tracked under the vehicle identification number (VIN) and can be tracked for the life of the bike. It's as if the bike came from the factory with the parts. An example would be a Screamin' Eagle stage four install. You can often finance the Screamin' Eagle parts and labor at the time of purchase of your new Harley. Now, you can still purchase Harley Screamin' Eagle parts after that 60 days and have a dealership mechanic install them and your warranty will remain intact, however, only the 1-year Screamin' Eagle parts warranty will apply and labor will not be covered in the future if there is a related problem. Note: You can purchase a 3 or 5-year extended service plan, which attaches to the end of the two-year manufacturer's warranty. That means, if you purchased the 3-year extended, you'd be covered for 5 years. Likewise, if you purchased the 5-year extended, you'd be covered for 7 years. Then, as long as you don't exceed 75,000 miles you can renew your extended service plan for an additional 5-years for a total of 12 years risk-free engine work/labor. But, this all comes with a price tag of course. And a reminder that you've been forced to only use overpriced Harley parts. What Voids Your Harley Warranty? If you or anyone else besides a certified Harley dealership technician installs Harley Screamin' Eagle parts or any other brand performance engine parts on your Harley, any warranty you have is technically voided. We'll talk further about that later. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! As an example, and very technically speaking here, if you install simple aftermarket slip-on mufflers and an aftermarket stage-one air intake your two-year Harley manufacturer's warranty and any extended service plan you purchased is voided. Certainly, if a non-Harley certified dealership mechanic or you install a stage four kit of any brand, your Harley warranty will be voided. Further, if you or anyone else install an aftermarket electronic fuel injection (EFI) tuner, your entire Harley warranty is immediately voided. How Does Harley Decipher These Things? Some things are going to vary from dealership to dealership on how they choose to handle some of these issues and how they choose to treat their local customers. But first, what you need to know is that if you take your Harley to any dealership and they need to plug your Harley's engine control module (ECM) into their proprietary Digital Technician II software, it is going to automatically start reading things. If the software determines you have current EFI map/tuning changes in your ECM from an aftermarket non-Harley EFI tuner it will immediately & automatically send that info to the Harley servers and will be forever locked to your VIN. Thus, your entire Harley warranty will be voided! The dealership will plug your ECM into Digital Tech for simple things like flashing your Boom Box Infotainment system after adding a speaker and amp system or adding a Wireless Headset Interface Module (WHIM) for wireless Bluetooth headset pairing with you Boom Box. Or, they may need to read the ECM to diagnose fuel and/or air issues and many other things. Simple installs like aftermarket slip-on mufflers or an air intake will not be read by Digital Technician as those alone cause no changes to the ECM. On the other hand, EFI tuners do change the air/fuel settings in the ECM and so it can be read by Digital Technician. Dealerships do have some options on how they handle things. Essentially, the aftermarket mufflers and air intake are visual to a dealership and not read by Digital Technician, thus nothing is sent to Harley servers and a dealership mechanic can certainly just move along with business and not report such things. But, after adding an exhaust system and air intake you'd want to re-map your EFI for optimal performance anyways. You could consider paying the Harley tax for a simple stage one EFI download, which would not void the warranty. Or, you can continue and pay more Harley taxes by buying the Harley Screamin' Eagle EFI tuner, which is not as good as the Vance & Hines FuelPak 3 or others, and pay a Harley mechanic to install it for the sake of keeping your Harley warranty intact. These new strict Harley warranty issues are making customers very upset. So, it seems Harley is forcing customers to use their Screamin' Eagle parts exclusively and only allowing their mechanics to install them. And that is not sitting well with Harley's long time, once brand loyal customers. Many long-time loyalists are leaving Harley because of moves like this and other recent moves that leave their true paying customers very unhappy. Harley-Davidson tries to blame all these new warranty issues on the recent Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) pressures. Yes, Harley has had to make changes ordered by the EPA in the past several years as they are the big dog. I understand that, but to then take it as far as voiding a customer's warranty for simply installing slip-on mufflers or an air intake is extreme in my opinion & completely unnecessary. I can tell you that Screamin' Eagle EFI tuners, air intakes, and slip-on mufflers are the same as many other aftermarket options. Screamin' Eagle often times are not as good as other aftermarket options and always a higher price (the Harley tax). I certainly understand major engine work like a Harley stage four kit being installed and the requirement to use their parts and their mechanics to maintain a warranty. Those are major engine changes, but slip-on mufflers-really Harley? Note: If you are buying an used Harley from someone with a transferrable warranty, I'd make an appointment to have the Harley ECM plugged into Digital Tech to verify the warranty is intact prior to making a deal. I'll never buy another Harley Warranty! Make no mistake about it, Harley makes a large amount of money by pushing extended service plans at the time of purchase. Not to mention, now they're making you buy their parts and paying their mechanics. I've had Harley warranty's over the past years and I can remember only one time actually using it and it was a $200 bill. Most will tell you they've never used their Harley warranty. Harley would not be pushing these extended warranties if they were not making large amounts of money on them. I'll also mention, that is a testament to the high quality of a Harley when you buy it. Because of these new Harley warranty issues and them trying to force me not to work on my own bike, I'll never give Harley another penny for an extended warranty service plan ever again! If we all do that, it will send a very strong financial message to Harley that this is an unacceptable practice. I will continue to work on my own Harley and put the parts I want and not pay the Harley Screamin' Eagle tax. Harley riders buy a bike and then they customize it and personalize it with aftermarket parts to include their choice of exhaust, stage one air intake, and EFI tuner. And so many of us enjoy wrenching on our own Harley and we take great pride in such. It's been done this for so many years and this is one of the big draws for even purchasing a Harley in the first place. It's part of the Harley culture! Take those things away and Harley will continue to lose their very loyal core customers. Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! The honors continue to pile in for players of the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Senior forward Hans Gorowsky was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's forward of the week following the Charger sweep of Alaska Anchorage. The Lino Lakes, Minnesota native tallied four goals and one assist in the two games. He also won 26 faceoffs over the weekend, placing in second in the league for that timespan. We spoke with Gorowsky about the honor, his teammates, learning from a slow start to winning now and the push to the WCHA playoffs.
