The US Amateur made hosts Alex Lauzon and Michael Russell very happy when they announced a Seinfeld inspired group, making the host's favorite TV show sport collide in a monumental way (2:20). But the real news was at the WGC FedEx St Jude where Will Zalatoris finally was able to get a W, after a four hole playoff. Alex and Michael wonder if this will now open the floodgates for the 2-year PGA Tour player (4:01). Meanwhile in the courtroom, a trio of LIV golfers tried to make their way back into the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and while they were unsuccessful, the golfing world was graced with a whole lot of interesting information about the LIV contracts (6:59). Rumors continued to swirl as well around the next batch of golfers headed to the LIV Tour, including the world #2 golfer, Cam Smith (9:12). Big shoutout to a CoL past guest Taylor Montgomery who was able to officially secure his PGA Tour Card (12:55). The FedEx Cup rolls on to the BMW Championship, now in Delaware, meaning the Tour pros will all be on the same page for a brand new venue (13:44). In Tuned In, Alex is getting in on World Chase Tag, while Michael is getting himself some fashionable new polos ahead of an exciting CoL trip to New Mexico (15:58). This week's guest is Hailey Hunter, a sportscaster and golfer whose crazy life has led her to golf as a lefty, report from the Olympic Games in Tokyo, and work for the PGA Tour (20:15). Football is officially back, but Alex's Patriots did not get off to a hot start thanks to Michael's Giants pulling off a shocking preseason victory (47:30). As the guys #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex is all set and ready for Pumpkin Spice Season to officially begin, while Michael is mixing it up with za'atar on his challah (49:33). You know the movie “Dodgeball”? The one where Vince Vaughn saves his neighborhood gym by bringing together a team of misfits to win a quirky adult version of a kids' game? Over the past few years, the plot of “Dodgeball” has been playing out here in Denver, but centers on a parkour gym called APEX and a scrappy group of Coloradans who are now two-time national champions at World Chase Tag, a relatively new sport that exploded in popularity during the pandemic, with tournaments airing on NBC and ESPN. The APEX squad is now in training for the tag world championships in May. So earlier this week, Bree visited their backyard practice arena to meet some of the players and watch them in action. The rules of chase tag are simple — "1 chaser, 1 evader, 20 seconds, don't get caught!" — but seeing the sport in action is something else entirely. Check out APEX's latest national championship match from last June here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n29ni9Khe14 We asked for your recycling and composting tips, and you answered! Leap Day Babies (0:32)Guest: Raenell Dawn, Cofounder of the Honor Society of Leap Year Babies, Editor and Producer of leapyearday.comThis weekend is that once-every-four-years quirk of the calendar when February gets an extra day. Leap Day accounts for the fact Earth's complete trip around the sun takes 365 days … and 6 hours. We've had a Leap Day on the calendar every four years since Julius Caesar decreed it back in 46 B.C. So, you'd think we'd be used to it by now. But it still feels rare enough that people born on Leap Day are a novelty and some organizations won't even recognize it as a valid birthday. (Originally aired 2/29/16) Easter Island Statues Degrading From Weather and Tourists (11:16)Guest: Jo Anne Van Tilburg, Director, Easter Island Statue Project, Cotsen Rock Art Archive at UCLAThe Night at the Museum movie is what first exposed many people to the large stone-faced statues of Easter Island. The American Museum of Natural History in New York has a plaster cast of one with a deeply-furrowed brow that comes to life in the movie. That movie made the American Museum of Natural History's Easter Island plaster cast a popular exhibit. The statues themselves – on Easter Island – have also become so popular with tourists over the last few decades they're in danger. (Originally aired 7/1/2019) Art Restoration Vital for Paintings and Murals Worldwide (29:20)Guest: Scott Haskins, Director and Chief Conservator, Fine Art Conservation LaboratoriesFamous street graffiti artist Banksy's latest piece of street art is a little girl firing a slingshot on a wall in Bristol, England. Banksy is so famous that his art is really valuable, but that doesn't stop other graffiti artists from adding their own twist. His latest slingshot girl was vandalized within just two days. And that reminded us of a conversation we had with Scott Haskins over the summer – he's the guy cities call when graffiti, pollution or weather damage an street mural they want restored. Recently Haskins has been working on a series of murals along Los Angeles freeways that all but disappeared beneath graffiti. (Originally aired 7/31/19) A College Acceptance Letter Is Not a Guarantee (50:31)Guest: Anna Ivey, Founder of Ivey Consulting, Former Dean of Admissions at the University of Chicago's Law School, Co-Author of "How to Prepare a Standout College Application."Your kid gets accepted to the college of his choice. But then some bad behavior surfaces from his past. The college gets wind and rescinds the acceptance. By all accounts this kind of thing is rare, but a high-profile case last year involving Parkland Shooting survivor and conservative activist, Kyle Kashuv, got us thinking about how colleges make these decisions – and how they decide who is a good fit in the first place. In Kashuv's case, he was accepted to Harvard, but then it became public that he'd made racist comments in text messages and a private online document shared with some classmates when he was 16. Kashuv apologized, but that didn't change Harvard's decision to rescind his acceptance. (Originally aired 7/17/2019) Making Brass Cool (1:05:49)Guest: Chuck Daellenbach (Tuba) Founder of Canadian Brass; Jeff Nelsen (French Horn) Canadian BrassFive brass instruments together on stage is already kind of a surprising experience for concert goers – a tuba, French horn, two trumpets and a trombone make a lot of noise. And honestly, we expect to hear these instruments blending into a symphony – not acting like an a cappella group doing renditions of pop songs from the likes of Lady Gaga. The group has been redefining what brass instruments can do for more than 40 years. (Originally aired 3/19/2019) World Chase Tag Is Your Favorite Childhood Game, Taken to the Next Level (1:25:38)Guest: Damien Devaux, Co-Creator of World Chase TagThe last time I played a really serious game of tag I was 14. All the kids in the neighborhood, inside and outside of the house, were dodging furniture, leaping off the porch. A babysitter was in charge and we were really into it – until my brother ran through the glass part of the screen door and nearly cut his arm off. 911, an ambulance and so many stitches that he's still got a gnarly scar all the way up his arm. A couple of brothers from England have turned tag into a serious sport they're hoping to make professional. It's called “World Chase Tag” and they host tournaments all over the world. (Originally aired 9/30/2019)

This week we’re talking about Bryan’s new obsession which i’m not even going to spoil here, DON’T LOOK AT THE...
Hispanic Homeowner Foreclosures Helped Trump Win the White House in 2016Guest: Jacob Rugh, PhD, Associate Professor of Sociology, BYUPresident Donald Trump has so far focused a fair amount of his re-election effort on Florida. It's where he kicked off the campaign over the summer and where he spends a lot of his time away from the White House. Florida was key to the Trump Campaign's victory in 2016 –Florida went Republican that year after two election cycles of supporting Democrat Barack Obama. BYU sociologist Jake Rugh has discovered that foreclosures among Latino homeowners in Florida helped turn the state red for Trump in 2016. The findings offer some insight for2020 President candidates. When a Church Changes ReligionsGuest: Ashima Krishna, Assistant Professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, University at BuffaloWhen a church's people abandon the building, what happens to it? In some instances, it gets sold to the highest bidder to be converted into office space and apartments. But in the poor parts of town where business isn't doing well, boarded up churches sit deserted, neglected, and eventually fall into ruin or get demolished. Yet, architect and historic preservation planner Ashima Krishna recently noticed a trend in Buffalo, New York that could save these old buildings. Positive Childhood Experiences Can Counteract Childhood TraumaGuest: Ali Crandall, Assistant Professor of Public Health in the College of Life Sciences at Brigham Young UniversityTraumatic childhood experiences, such as abuse or losing a parent, puts a kid at a higher risk of having poor health as an adult. But research at Brigham Young University shows that positive childhood experiences can counteract the negative ones in a more powerful way than previously thought. World Chase Tag is your favorite childhood game, taken to the next levelGuest: Damien Devaux, Co-Creator of World Chase TagThe last time I played a really serious game of tag I was 14. All the kids in the neighborhood, inside and outside our house, dodging furniture, leaping off the porch. Mom and dad were gone. Babysitter was in charge. We were really into it –until my brother ran through the glass part of the screen door and nearly cut his arm off. 911, an ambulance and so many stitches that he's still got a gnarly scar all the way up his arm. A couple of brothers from England have turned tag into a serious sport they're hoping to make professional. They host tournaments all over the world. You have to be really nimble and fast to play at the level of World Chase Tag –that's what they call it. Coping With Impostor SyndromeGuest: Jeff Bednar, Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior and Human Resources, BYU Marriott School of BusinessApparently, a lot of people are walking around suffering from something called “impostor syndrome.” That's what the experts say. But, honestly, I think imposter syndrome is just a fancy term for the way most of us feel when we start a new job or become a parent or get a new assignment at church. You fake that you know what you're doing until you really do know what you're doing. What We Can Learn from the Way Indigenous People Understood the Night SkyGuest: Duane Hamacher, Associate Professor of Indigenous Astronomy & Science at the University of Melbourne; Simon Cropper, Senior Lecturer at Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences, University of MelbourneThe constellations we're familiar with in the Northern Hemisphere were identified by the ancient Greeks based on their own mythology –Orion the god-like hunter and Scorpio the scorpion that slew him, Leo the Lion conquered by Hercules, Taurus the Bull, which is a form the god Zeus was said to have taken. What did other ancient cultures, on different continents, in different millennia, see in the night sky? Surprisingly, many of the same images and similar stories. How can that be?
Jake Rugh, BYU, on Hispanic homeowners foreclosures. Ashima Krishna of University at Buffalo on the preservation of church buildings. Ali Crandall, BYU, on how positive interactions can counteract childhood trauma. DamienDevaux, co-creator of World Chase Tag, on professional tag. Jeff Bednar, BYU Marriott School of Business, on impostor syndrome. Duane Hamacher and Simon Cropper of the University of Melbourne on what we can learn from indigenous people's interpretations of constellations.
